How about the beginning ideas for formation combat and use of siege towers against PoIs and settlements? I have been looking forward to more information on formations, since I see the slot GW had posted a few months ago some new(er) goblin must be in the cave in Seattle tinkering with the mechanics for formation combat.
I remain hopeful!

You know, he didn't say anything about their being two towers, specifically. I think we've all been watching too much LOTR, if you ask me. ;)
But if it is two towers, specifically, I speculate that Lisa and Ryan got into a fight, and are now on opposite sides of an argument.
Let the war begin. *grins*

So the druid in the crumbling tower in the swamp made it into the game before everyone thought it would be possible and then the inquisitor, who lives in the tower on the hill decided to flay a kobold who gurgled witch-like incantations about the horse in the field. Then a zombie rose out of the ground... am I close?

@Nightdrifter - the War of Towers is a placeholder for real Settlement warfare. The Towers will eventually be removed. It is likely that they'll transition to something else like Points of Interest (or whatever the Crowd Forges that name into). How that transition happens is very much tbd.
Thanks Ryan!

Will the settlement templates allow for balanced or multirole development, or will each settlement have to specialize in just one character role?
Can players change their settlement's template, or is that a permanent one -time choice?
Will the settlement template model have any lasting effects post-Great Cataclysm, or do we start from scratch at that point?

Great blog! I was worried it would be too long in EE until real warfare escalated it seems GW was too.
Will settlements keep thier progress when towers are wiped and proper settlement controls are implemented? Or will everyone start on the same footing regardless of EE success?
Can individual companies control more than one tower at a time for its settlement?
Is the PvP window liner in increase ( like 1 hour per tower controlled) or more algebraic?
Thanks for the changes guys Im really excited for EE now more than ever!

I second Guurzak's questions about how this will affect our settlements once we do start upgrading our settlements with resources.
Also, as Ryan has indicated that many of these towers will transfer into POI's (or whatever they end up being called) will the control that we establish now have any effect when they are transformed?
Or will that transformation start before Beta starts?

Ryan, BTW you might want to know that the kickstarter rewards have actually started to arrive already. I got mine yesterday. Despite going out the same day, it actually beat my regular monthly Paizo subscription delivery, which is scheduled to be delivered today.
Everything looks great. Only 'problem' is that now I am looking at some of the Paizo products (e.g. flip mats and cards) that I never bothered buying before and wondering if maybe I really need to start.

Looks like absolutely another game, nothing like sandbox. In this version, you have no chance of actually "building" anything form sand; instead, your only option is hitting other kids' heads with your toy spade, and as result of your hitting sandcastles are supposed to rise from the sand themselves. Somehow.
Doesn't make any esthetic sense for me other than keeping people busy with nonconsenual PvP regardless of alignment and playstyle. Hope some decent PvE content will be ready by EE, because right now it acually starts looking like murderfest play.

Shiny! Glad to see that some real territory control mechanics will be there right from the (close to the?) start of EE.
Will settlements be able to move their PvP window around the day? Does it have to be contiguous? Say Golgotha has 8 towers, and we have an 8 hour PvP window, can we do 4 hours, then have an hour long break, and then another 4 hours?
The lack of reputation mechanics involved actually makes me rather happy. The hexes will be easy to avoid, and it will give the PvP hungry people a good chance to go out and practise without risking their reputation. It isn't quite battlegrounds, but it gives people something to do when the rest of the game is nice and quiet.

@Laik
While I agree it's not an optimal 'finished settlement system' it's a close enough approximation for the political landscape to evolve and let us test out how the PVP windows and group combat works out. From a purely combat perspective, it's only slightly mechanically different from how the POIs are going to work. It's at least something to do besides all of us killing wolves and goblins or each other for lack of anything more meaningful to do. Not to mention they could add a bit more to this as they build toward the real settlement system.
