That's what, 84 days away? Just how short is alpha supposed to be?

Goblin Squad Member

Well, if we assume that the start of Alpha is still a couple weeks off, call it June 1, and we further assume that the start of Gen Con (August 14) is a couple weeks into Early Enrollment, then Alpha would be June 1 through July 31.

Roughly 8 or 9 weeks. Does that seem short to you or long? Or just right?

Goblin Squad Member

As seen with the new site transfers and the Landrush, things will start when GW decide they are ready to. Extensions to Alpha may happen, or they may not. Of course they will try to stick to their timetable.

I'm glad to see the Landrush has finally started after the extended hype.

Also a quick thanks to Taylor for getting my enrollment issue sorted. :D

Too long, I believe that Alpha will only be a month at most. It is advertised that new EE members will be playing in August. Which is the second month of EE.

Granted its just a guess.

Depends on the state of the game.

Very exciting time indeed :)

Can I suggest a bigger leaderboard than 5? 5 out of 33 showing seems like a pretty small amount--I feel like showing the top 10 would make more sense.

Also, tracking scores openly is a lot less suspicious than "well, but despite larger numbers you got bumped down to 11th place after Lee applied some forbidden arcana modifiers".

Yeah, VooDoo mathematics does not sound right unless your 3dfx.

If the first land rush tally is on June 1st and there are a total of ten weekly tallies, then the last should be on August 3rd.

Note, I don't think that has much direct bearing on when the settlements will actually be placed in game or the start dates of Alpha / EE. Those are just the only actual dates we have to work with. The July 'start of EE' date was set back when the 'start of Alpha' was estimated for April. They could certainly keep the EE date by shortening the Alpha period, but that assumes everything is ready in time / no delay inducing problems are found during the Alpha.

We've got a projection of 'weeks not months' to the start of Alpha. Since the first tally on the land rush takes place in twelve days they will likely be trying to resolve any remaining issues with accounts eligible for that (including all Alpha accounts) before then. That includes 32 alpha backers from the first kickstarter that they are talking about setting up manually. The actual Alpha playtest will then likely begin some time after that. I'm thinking another week minimum, up to possibly some time in June.

Hopefully Alpha only *needs* to take a month. However, I really hope that GW won't push into EE just to meet a date if there are glaring issues in Alpha. I honestly don't believe that will be the case since I think the way they are rolling out the game and continuing development through EE really does lend itself to releasing earlier than you would for most other games.

In either case, I plan to test the living heck out of it to make sure that it is ready for all the EE people!

Oh, come on...!MATH! is just fun and thus makes its own excuse :-).

Apparently I am old and my eyes are bad. I'm having a really hard time telling the difference between croplands hexes and swamplands/wetlands hexes. The greens are too close. Can someone with better eyes than me enlighten me as to which are which re the available letter hexes?

The only Swamp/Wetlands hexes on the Land Rush Phase 2 Map are the four hexes next to Z.

L, M, N, O, P, and AD are all Croplands Settlements.

That map's out of date. Did Harad Navar join FMS?

Actually... that one is not the most current... sorry. But it does have a bit more contrast =)

Seriously!? A second!? And no, not to my knowledge =)

Isn't that his map, though? Or were you just referring to the fact that FMS was hosting a copy?

Liberty's Edge Goblin Squad Member

In decreasing order of frequency on the current map;

Forest: Dark green running from North to South edge and to the East.
Croplands: Light green found to the SW, SE, and scattered points throughout.
Mountains: Brown in four regions to North and East
Hills: Yellow-green found to the NW and scattered points east of there.
Swamplands: Light blue four hexes in the SE by Z
Water: White, none shown on current map

As far as I was tracking that was a map edited by FMS for clarity as well as hosted by them.

I'm having trouble linking my Paizo and Goblinworks accounts, and the FAQ you linked us to earlier on linking accounts doesn't seem to lead anywhere.

Goblin Squad Member

@cartmanbeck,
If you purchased through the Paizo store, just wait. They are linking the accounts manually and will send out e-mails to those concerned.

If you were in the Kickstarter, I have no good advice.

cartmanbeck wrote:

My trouble turned out to be non-alphanumeric characters in my Goblinworks password. If you joined in the Kickstarter (as Wurner told you, GW's going to use a manual solution for Paizo store folks), try changing your password to only alphanumeric, then link.

If that works, you can then change your password to anything you like.

Good job putting them in rank order... Maybe move TEO, T7V, and PAX Aeternum to the bottom, then follow it up with each new group that gets a settlement... Or make another category.

I agree, having Aeturnum, T7V and TEO on the leader board isn't optimal. Being able to say that you are on the top 5 is good for recruitment, I could easily see people complaining that they are pushed down by guilds that don't really 'matter' for this promotion.

I'd at least like to see "not eligible" asterisks. The spirit of the 2nd land rush rules was specifically to allow the "2nd wave" of guilds to grow into settlement capable sizes.

I would also point out that the Guild Leaderboard is not just for the Land Rush; it's also for recruiting new folks that might not visit the forums. It seems appropriate to me to list TEO, Pax, and T7V there along with everyone else. T7V made a very prominent announcement at the top of our description making it very clear that we were not participating in this phase of the Land Rush.

On the matter of ties, ties will be decided with older guilds getting the edge. I'll time the guilds from when we received the first guild application, rather than when we approved it.

Yes, the leadership board IS just for the Land Rush. In fact its called the Guild Land Rush, with the Leader Board being a subsection.

Thats why there can be a subsection for those who already have a Settlement. Which will later include future winners.

Goblin Squad Member

The landrush doesn't seem to be counting my application. T7V had 14 before me, and has 14 now. I do have a button inviting me to remove my application, but apparently with three others... looks like four of us aren't yet being counted.

Goblin Squad Member

The admin of the guild has to approve you. T7V currently has 5 applicants.

Goblin Squad Member

Just for clarification, I heard somewhere that each week, the "Top 3" will get their choice in settlement, meaning by the end of week 10, we will have our 30 settlements. Is this correct, or will all 30 spots be open until week 10 when the top 30 at the end of week 10 get the spots?

Check the Guild Roster.

This.

That's what I thought but wanted to make sure.

Goblin Squad Member

When and how do we submit our settlement location list for the land rush 2? I don't see a link for it. Or is this TBD?

Goblinworks Programmer

"The Goodfellow" wrote:

On the sidebar should be a link for 'Settlement Draft' that should give you a list of settlement locations that you can drag up and down to indicate your ordering, higher being more desired, lower less desired. This should be visible to any approved member of a guild although only the guild leader may modify the list. This list can be modified as much as you desire it will be pulled down for use at the same time we pull down membership numbers.

EDIT: Looking at the database quite a few of the guilds have already changed up their orderings, so it would appear to be working.

Goblin Squad Member

@Nihimon When I select to see the Guild Roster I get the following message:
"You are currently waiting to be accepted into The Seventh Veil.

Until you have been accepted you can't see the guild roster. Please check back later" There is also a button for me to remove my application.

Morbis is correct. The guild founder must approve applicants before they are counted for the leaderboard. As others have pointed out you can see how many applicants are waiting for approval at the bottom of the info page for that guild.

I think it's as simple as "Decius hasn't been on-line yet today to handle our approvals".

Just thought I'd point it out..

Technically, programming is just really abstract !MATH! ;)

T7V Jazzlvraz wrote:

That was correct. Barring catastrophe I should be able to at least approve applicants at least once every day, but there will be periods of up to 16 hours when I can't check anything.

I wish there was a differentation on the Land Rush map for unavailable settlements and already claimed settlements. For clarification, what are the unavailable settlements that have not been claimed by one of the 3 already awarded settlements?

Additionally, is it just me or does looking at this map make you want to play Settlers? :P

Goblin Squad Member

I think the thing to take away from the map is that anyplace with a letter is a choice for your guild. Any settlement icon without a letter is not a choice but will undoubtedly contain a settlement. Three of them already do.

Having said that, I agree that they should indicate on the map which hexes already contain settlements from the three winners of the original land rush. People should know whether they're choosing to plop down near a hex that will someday contain a settlement or one that already does.

All of the letters on the map are available. Three of the unavailable settlements on the map have already been claimed. These are; the settlement 4 hexes due west of I, the settlement 5 hexes roughly north-east of AB, and the settlement 3 hexes south-east of Y.

Goblin Squad Member

@Taylor Hainlen, any way we could get the Guild Roster to sort by Account Name (case-insensitive) rather than by account creation date? That would make it a lot easier to find out if a specific user is in, especially once we get up around 50 members.

Goblin Squad Member

There are three sites taken, which letters have been replaced by the grey two-house symbol. If you've not got a version of the map with the hex-numbers, I'll try to describe them directionally:

Callambea (Pax): Begin at I, go four columns west
Brighthaven (TEO): Begin at AB, go five hexes northeast
Phaeros (T7V): Begin at Y, go three hexes southeast

EDIT: Damn, slow typing. Thanks, CB.
