I was playing at a local gaming store last night. Interesting to actually get to the point where I need a class deck for my character(s).
The guy that owned the base set we were playing with really enjoys the game. And we were playing with one of the store's owners and a couple others (who were new to the game). First, many thanks to the designers of this game. We were able to get the two newbies up and running with characters and introducing them to the rules and play of the game fairly easily. Both enjoyed it.
Second, the guy that owned the set, is a bit concerned about OP and the new S&S set. We all have characters that we are still playing through the 4th adventure. (We're halfway through the 4th.) He's none-too-happy about having to start over with new characters in S&S. He's invested a lot of time (and money) into RotR and the characters he and his co-players have built. So at the end of the evening when I was talking about getting the new set and class decks at GenCon and also the PFSACG events, he wondered if:
1) The new OP will be only based on the S&S set or can he use the RotR?
2) Can we use our built-up characters in OP or do we have to start fresh?
And my question, if Season 0 starts at GenCon with the event, when does Season 1 start? Or are we going to be playing Season 0 through this start of OP when it hits in September?

from how i understand it
1) the op scenarios (if you are reporting) require scenarios to be run with the s&s base set.
2) you will be starting fresh with the class decks but you may use any character who has a corresponding class deck ex: i can use the rotr valeros with the fighter class deck.
3) season 1 will start with the 3rd adventure path release in february i beleive.

Keep in mind too, that no one is saying you HAVE to stop playing RotR the way you are, getting together with friends or people at your local store. But imagine "newbies" come in more often but on an irregular basis. It would be annoying to try to bring them on board each time and then not know if the character that ended up with Holy Candle last week is going to show up again this week, or ever again.
The OP system allows you to not need any specific other player to show up. You have your cards, they have their cards. And you can play each time with different people and still progress through the game. It is a way to get more people playing by lowering the hurdle of cost (just buy a class deck) and dependency on specific other players.

Maybe I've missed it, but I don't believe the last part of number 2 is correct. I'm fairly certain that you can only use class deck characters with the class decks in OP, not other versions of the same characters.

Actually, as long as you have the Class Deck that corresponds to its class, you can use whatever character you want. The cards in the Class Decks are tuned for the characters that come with them, of course.

So pretending Valeros were not included in the Fighter deck, you could still use RotRL Valeros in OP? That's awesome
Whatever official character card you want, anyway. It'll start fresh at the same power level as all the other OP characters, so you can't come in with your 23 cards and your AD 6 loot and be all, "I win, suckaz!"

z who needs karzougs glaive or bloodstained robes...i just need my emerald codex and a box full of signs of wrath.... ranzak had a lot of fun using that spell.

Really? That is awesome! Makes sense, but something I hadn't even considered.

While this is probably too good to be true, and I am probably misinterpreting, does this mean we could throw Ranzak into Organized Play? If so...then this already fun prospect just got a whole lot funner!
Since OP starts fresh with S&S, there should be no reason you can't start with Ranzak. For instance, Kyra (the Cleric) doesn't exist in S&S set (base or add-on). [Which should make Merisiel kinda upset since she is in the set.] But she is in one of the class decks.
Now you won't have a true class deck for Ranzak but if you keep track of the cards (I'm sure Paizo will provide sheets like they did for RotR.), you should be able to play him in OP.

I'm going to have to agree with you as well. Ranzak can be part of the classes in the S&S Adventure Path but not in the OP. What they were saying is that if you wanted to play the RotR style Valeros instead of the one in the Class Deck, you could. But you might not want to.
The class decks are going to be needed for OP due to the mechanics of that path.
[But it doesn't mean you can't ask how to build a class deck for a Raider! The worst that can happen is they say no.]

So is anyone really going to the 8am event on Thursday Morning at Gencon? I was trying to sort through events and such balancing True Dungeon runs and PFS Thursday and Friday Night and didn't get a chance to buy up tickets for the organized play (except Sunday). I know everyone was buying up 4 tickets to get the discounted decks, but if I show up with generics will I get turned away? I mean who REALLY is gonna be up at 8am Thursday morning? ;)

I'll be up at 8am Thu morning but I'll be getting ready to ransack the Exhibit Hall ... specifically Paizo's booth.

Heh, I can never sleep in past about 6-6:30 on the Thursday of Gencon. Soon it will be time to sit down with the exhibit hall map and plan my initial excursion - how do I get to all the "must have" places quickly and efficiently so as to avoid the lines of Doom.
Heck last year there was a 45 minute wait at Fantasy Flight during early access. Sheesh.

That's nothing compared to the SDCC lines. The GenCon event registration is handled so much better than any other con I've been to it's insane. I can't believe I know what I'm attending without the doom of lines... it's so refreshing. First time doing GenCon, obviously. :)

Oh yes, generally the registration for Gen Con is not so bad. Occasionally there is a problem but in general they do a good job. (Hotels were a mess this year but events went smoothly)
The lines of Doom I speak of are inside the exhibit hall - you can reliably expect a 2-3 hour wait to buy stuff at some booths on Thursday.
I hope you have a great first Gen Con! This is going to be my 20th and I'm already nearly useless at work what with anticipation.

Hotel registration a mess? We managed pretty well. Although a couple of us couldn't get in while the rest were able to make the registrations.
10th here ... we were talking about the old days in Milwaukee on Monday night. And how horrible the sleeping arrangements were back then with the dorms.

Yeah, I posted them on Sunday in the "rampant speculation" thread, but here it is again:
If you go to My Account and click Make Changes under Pathfinder Society, you will see a button "Register a New Card Game Character". This lets you see the names of all the class deck characters for each class.
Bard: "Bekah", "Lem", "Meliski", "Siwar"
Cleric: "Heggal", "Kyra", "Tarlin", "Zarlova"
Fighter: "Flenta", "Tontelizi", "Valeros", "Vika"
Ranger: "Agna", "Arabundi", "Harsk", "Wrathack"
Rogue: "Lesath", "Merisiel", "Olenjack", "Wu Shen"
Sorcerer: "Amaryllis", "Qualzar", "Seoni", "Valendron"
Wizard: "Darago", "Ezren", "Melindra", "Radillo"
My brother made a list over on BGG matching these names up to the codex and other people's speculations:

Bah. Somehow I missed this thread when looking for stuff about the OrgPlay. Ah, well, a good thing came of it:
Because I missed this thread, I started another thread (and contest!) wherein I'm hoping people will share their experiences at GenCon with this launch. I'm giving things away to people, too, so you should check it out and participate. (-:

And... looks like the answer is in yesterday's Blog entry. FLGS participation delayed til at earliest Sept. 3rd.

Well, SOON! has arrived. Yay! Time to read....
I encourage everyone to ask on these forums or PM me directly if anything's confusing in the guide.

Is there going to be a Pathfinder Society Adventure Card Guild logo released either on the blogs or Community Use art so we can use it or our local game day pages?
