You know you're dreaming.

A red haired man leaned over a mithral bracelet, a single rune etched into its silver surface. His red eyes glowed as he whispered softly and small droplets of iridescent blue liquid slowly rose from the cracks in the floor. They swirled around him and then sank into the rune causing it to glow with a soft steady light. "Yes!, finally!" he stood and ran out the door with the bracelet.
Standing before a podium the red haired man spoke excitedly to a council of robed men, his words inaudible. The looks on their faces are obvious disbelief, one even openly laughs at him. The red haired man pulls up his sleeve revealing the bracelet The blue rune flashes and a rip opens up beside him. From the rift steps a Pit fiend, his eyes flashing in rage, but the red haired man shouts a word and the pit fiend kneels.
He turns with a smug look on his face and the world shifts. The leader of the council is now standing on a balcony looking over the construction of a tower. He wears three bracelets with glowing blue runes on each arm and a mithral circlet on his head. Half carved runes are scattered all over the tower, a few finished ones are already glowing softly.
The dream changes rapidly like a montage in fast forward. Vibrant valleys start to pale and wither, animals sicken and die. Crowds of people stand before the great tower shouting angrily and then flee from a massacre carried out by runed constructs. The dream pans out to show the whole planet slowly darkens the seas turning black and the lands turning brown.
The red haired man stands before the council once again, they now all wear blue runed jewelry. He yells waving a withered plant at the council, pointing at their jewelry but they just murmur amongst themselves. The leader points and guards grab the red haired man, dragging him away.
In a cell the red haired man finishes a rune, blood covering his hands and arms from chipping at the stone. The view pans out to show hundreds of runes all connected, all leading in to the last rune he just finished. He reaches out to some of the glowing runes outside of his cell and seems to pull the blue glow form them and pass it into his intricate design.

You wake up in a cell to the sound of a feminine voice, that seems to come from everywhere. "Greetings Ascender, I hope your removal was timely we have much to do." You remember flashes of your last waking moments, of the moments before what should have been your death.

Character creation:
Welcome to the recruitment of the runed citadel, this will be a Paizo only 25 point buy homebrew campaign looking for six players. any race listed in the core or featured races are allowed, with some others DM approval pending. The characters will be level one from a world of your own design, modern, medieval, warhammer 40k, I don't care where you were, you'll start gearless and be given gear at the beginning of the campaign. Your knowledge or even belief in magic is optional as is your level of tech.

I am a new DM for pbp so please go easy on me, I want this to be atleast a daily post thing, though I am on much more often then that. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions please feel free.

Intriguing and Interested.

As for being a new GM, check out THIS thread - contains a wealth of advice for new GMs.

Thanks for that, I read it and there are a few things I definitely didn't know.

Sczarni

I would love to join this campaign. Can I request that my character come from the Capital Wasteland of the world of Fallout?

I'd like to play a human, one of a small group of friends that left the safety of Vault 101 long after the Vault Dweller left after his/her father. Technology doesn't have to play a part, and he doesn't believe in magic.

If this doesn't work for you, I'd be ok with just a regular human.

Stats:
STR: 14
DEX: 12
CON: 16 (+2)
WIS: 11
INT: 16
CHA: 14

<---- raises a brow, interested.

So... are we supposed to be the guy in the montage? Is this going to be the focus of our campaign?

level of tech? Are we going to have the ability to use tech? Will we mixing stuff from other games? Are we going to be assigned classes?

Sooooooooo many questions, but definitely interested in where this is headed.

The red haired guy in the montage is the designer of the system that makes the citadel work. it'll be explained a bit better once you make characters, your character is someone who was in their prime and about to die, instead of dying you're brought here.

Tech will work, but you won't start with it no matter where you're from, though it 'may' be possible to replicate later on if you're inventive. Vault dweller is a great example I hadn't already thought of actually.

A few things that are generally of interest in this sort of stuff:

If I build a duelist or warpriest, will your campaign be smart enough to give me the object I have weapon-focus in?

If I am playing a character with a bonded item, familiar, or other form of bond, will they come with me, or must I seek out a new bond? Will I have to spend the money to rectify this?

How do you intend to handle wildly diverging alignments, and do you have a trick to make the characters 'play nice'?

yes you'll get your weapon-focus

No you won't keep your familiar/bonded item, they will be replaced free of charge.

You are basicly press-ganged by the citadel, if you're not interested in working together, its happy to send you back to right where you were.

Annanesh the necromancer, ready to send zombies through time and space!

Okay, this is really cool. Alynthar, the Chaotic Good Necromancer, for your perusal. I'll have to modify his stats to a 25 pt buy, but the basics are on my profile.

Ok, here is OSW's submission - Tatu "Tanque" Skarskind. Human Fighter. :)

He was unsuccessful in getting into another PbP a while back. I've retooled him from 15 to 25 point buy.

He *currently* has a simple Golarion backstory as the PbP he was initially created for was set there, without the *yoink* from almost dying you require. I'll rewrite something from a completely different world...

You don't have to have a crazy world, you're going to a pretty crazy place, I just want to give the players the option to make up some cool stuff.

how about (modified to avoid copyright infringement): A red, white, and blue shield wielding super-soldier from a modern multiverse?

Which is why I want to give Tanque that opportunity. Golarion is...not my cup of tea. The Runed Citadel however is intriguing due to being unknown, and I have some idea for Tanque's world that will give him something to draw on while...gone.

Ok, Tanque's backstory written.

Tanque's Tale:
When the orbs fell the sun stank and the wind burned your heart. Only the love of your closest kept you going as the terrors roamed. Sleek pulsing black marauders with an inscrutable mien and a penchant for horrific execution or indiscriminate torture.

What had been a pleasant verdant world was changed overnight by the arrival of the beings only known as the Darrein. Bio-mechanical monstrosities that could phase between realities and twist your mind with a glance. Tanque's people were decimated in mere months, and after that led a subterranean life of scrape and harrowed existence. Though war, ambush and battle were not foreign to them, the human folk accelerated their own aggressive and martial traditions to combat this implacable and it seems, insurmountable foe.

The Darrein took many they did not kill and returned them to root out their former friends and communities - augmented shells without much in the way of mind or intellect - beasts of pure instinct and feral acumen.

Tanque's brother was one such Returned - he still has nightmares of running from his slavering family member, and the iron bar a friend used to dash his brother's brains and circuitry out against a cavern wall.

And then, after only a few decades, the Darrein suddenly and mysteriously disappeared, leaving many that, having succumbed to some kind of maddening malady, wandered aimlessly through a blasted, wasted landscape now inhabited by a bereft people.

The last thing Tanque remembers is being stalked by one of these "lost Darrein" in a marshy region not far from his home village. He had foolishly let himself be cornered in a sedge, and surprised, was picked up and about to be eviscerated but the multi-limbed monstrosity when….he blacked out, and awoke in the chamber with the red-haired man.

Tanque is possessed of an abundant curiosity, and a wisdom gained from an upbringing watching people and their decisions. Despite his horrific experience with the Darrein and the Returned Tanque is friendly and prepossessing, though he can be inwardly cautious in his dealing with strangers. His heart is kind and his mind clear.

:P yes lets avoid Copyright infringement, I welcome the concept though I've tried and failed to build a good version of him. you're welcome to be from that world, and modeled off that man, just as long as you're not claiming to be 'him'.

ah, the man I mentioned is gone. I originally intended that to be a "in the distant past" post, but figured a dream would be an easy way to explain how you all know about it. the cell you wake up in is coated in dust that seems to have been untouched for years atleast, if not decades.

I like that world by the way Tanque. That brings up another good point, the world you leave you may see again, though that's a long time coming. You are welcome to help me in designing the worlds and what is in them as you revisit them. (i'll message you and discuss it when it gets close to that time)

My interest in your world does not directly affect the picking process, it doesn't hurt anything, but i'll be building plenty of worlds later anyway, if you can't or don't want to come up with something right now i'll work with you later.

@RJ the DM - Ok, understood. By all means hit me with a PM when necessary to discuss Tanque's world.

I changed his avatar as well - the mark on his brow indicates he killed a Darrein. Though truth be told it was in concert with a score others of his people. He merely dealt the killing blow.

@RJ - is this a general comment to all applicants? That's how I took it, not as specific to me... :)

An interesting concept. Normally I wouldn't go in for this sort of thing, but the caveat regarding the previous worlds has my creative juices stoked.

I'll be applying with an Arcanist who hails from the world of Ravnica (one of the worlds that exists within the mythos of Magic the Gathering).

The character in question has spent their life to this point researching what is known as evocation magic. They are likable and intelligent, but not powerfully strong nor particularly agile.

I'm leaning heavily towards investigator, given the setting. I'll work something up later.

What of traits?

would your animal companion also be brought with you?

@mcridill Your animal companion will not, though you will be able to gain a new one. your old one did not die, it just breaks the connection, same with familiars and bonded items. you are able to gain a new one, and one will be provided to you shortly.

@hotaru normal trait selections, with the option of a drawback for an additional trait.

@nostrum i'm familiar with ravnica and I love the world, were you thinking of a specific guild?

@tanque general comment, don't want to scare off applicants. :P

I think something akin to Izzet.

I love Izzet, and they definitely fit the evocation theme, plus their part of the city is extremely steampunk-esque. honestly I think gruul or boros would also fit evocation, but probably not an arcanist that is physically weak so izzet is a great choice.

so far we have
Annanesh Necromancer
alynthar42 necromancer
Tanque Fighter
gossamar4 brawler
Hotaru investigator
nostrusuk Evoker

Edit:
Sinblade06 Magus

Sczarni

Hey RJ! You forgot me! I haven't put together any stats yet, but my character would be a Magus, his weapon being a Chinese Officer's Sword (Longsword effectively), and his spellbook would have been his PipBoy 3000, but that could change. Science and all that.

If you want me to get an alias up, just ask!

I didn't forget you! you just never mentioned a class so I didn't know what to list you as

So will the replacement companion/familiar/bonded item/spellbook be chosen by us, and the disconnected bond is purely for RP, or will the new thing be chosen by the whosits, and we shouldn't create one ourselves?

purely for RP, you just won't have them at the beginning, you also won't have things like spell books, or armor, or anything else, but you'll get them shortly after starting. (go ahead and pick all the things you want, including spells)

Hey, is this still open at all? It seems like an interesting idea, and I'd love to throw my hat in the ring. Off the top of my head I'm thinking I might play a gunslinger sort from the world of Destiny (the recent game from Bungie). Not sure exactly how I'd build him, but it'd be good to know if this is open and what would be expected/available. As far as tech goes, he'd probably be using a standard revolver from Ultimate Combat if possible, although if that's not doable it's fine. Any other character creation info (money, traits, etc.) would also be great.

you might have to start out with an early firearm, revolvers are pretty expensive even when they're available. gear will be about 200 gold non-magic to start, 2 traits, no campaign traits, with a 3rd if you take a drawback. this thread is still open for applications :P was just doing a roundup of who was applying earlier for quicker memory refresh.

Grand Lodge

I'll be dotting this for later tonight. I should have a build for you when I get home from work.

How I got here:

Charlie stood in the middle of the room filled to the brim with things. She didn't make a sound aside from the slow scuffing of her shoes as she turned in minuscule amounts.

'Come on Charlie... something changed. You know it did. You had to memorize this entire room when you got here. This is important. What changed..?'

She was in the room six hours earlier than she needed to be, really... but she also needed to make herself useful. The internship required it. She'd only gotten two hours of sleep, but that was fine. Tomorrow was Saturday, her day off. She could sleep on Saturday. Something had changed.

'Just think back to your notes.'

Funny that. Always be diligent in taking notes, but writing anything down was banned. Keep it all in your head, other people could take anything she wrote down and use it to twist the doctor's creation... or worse, destroy it. And there were a lot of people who wanted it destroyed. People who thought it would destroy the natural order. People who thought the economic system would collapse. People who simply didn't understand what linking the science of matter to magic could truly mean for society as a whole.

She slowly turned, eyeing object after object, until finally, she saw it. A burner was turned on. It wasn't heating or anything, just the knob was turned. It was still plugged in... that was odd. But it didn't really matter. After only two hours she'd found what was out of place. Another test she'd succeeded at... maybe she'd get to stay on another month after all.

She moved to the burner and turned the dial all the way down... and with a click, everything went white... and then she dreamed.

Charlie is an investigator, in that her mind is alight with possibilities and curiosities. She wasn't really anything -big- where she was from. Just an intern. A very helpful one at that. Helpful, and bright enough to work under one of the most brilliant minds in her world. Bright enough to foil an assassination attempt meant for him with her own life.

i'm going to give this til Monday, then i'll decide who's playing.

Bumping this for the folks who dotted to remember it... And for the possibility of fresh blood. :)

and the anxious waiting begins!

Sovereign Court

Would I be able to use this Character? He's a lvl 1 kobold.

GM--How would the starting gun offered by certain classes interact with our equipment and such? I'm presuming it would also be missing at the beginning of the adventure, but we would then get it back? Also, would it be at all possible to use one of those abilities to get a more modern firearm? I understand if you'd rather I didn't, just figured I'd ask.

EDIT: Also, for the Dune Drifter archetype, would it be possible to keep Grit keyed to Wisdom rather than Charisma?

Loup blanc- wis is fine, you may get a more modern firearm later but you will be starting out with the reg gun
Madic-kobold is fine though a little under powered

If you haven't done crunch and such, remember, the deadline is tomorrow... and yes, this is still open. :)

Alynthar has been modified to a 25 point buy.

Sovereign Court

I'm a support sorc, I snipe from behind. If I am up front, I use my close up attacks.

here is a hunter for consideration.

Hey folks sorry about being MIA only computer I have at the moment is a kindle.

Players are: hotura, alynthar, gossamar, Sinblade, nostrusuk, and tanque.
Please make your alias' and be thinking on exactly where you were before being taken. I'll start the gameplay thread as soon as I get a hold of a keyboard. Which should be within the next day or two.

Thanks for the heads up RJ.

@Alynthar - finally! Good to see you get into a game...

I'd like to propose an Oracle centered around a god from my homebrew world and campaign setting: Ommeraine, the flooded world.

I'll have to pick one, but I'll bring with me a character infused with the culture of my home setting, as well as being able to provide a write up of their deity that is AS detailed as Inner Sea gods (Formatted to match that system.)

I'll also note: My periods of activity online can be:
(Canada, Quebec) 7:30am-9:00am and 8:30pm-11:00pm
On the weekend, it can vary, because I have my own games in person, but I can usual do: 9:00am-11:00am, and Saturday is usually free for me.

I MADE IT INTO A GAME! I'M SO HAPPY!

@baltoss I'll add you to my list of alternatives incase someone drops.
