Since the New York invasion, SHIELD seems to have become more visible.
Is it really invisible? I thought in the MCU it merely flew really high (above the clouds) and had Stealth capability. No invisibility, just can't see it from the ground and it's undetectable by radar.
It wouldn't make any sense for it to be invisible, actually. In Thor 2 the Asgardians seemed FLOORED by the concept of the invisible space/aircraft the Totally-Not-Drow used.
Do they? It's been a while.
Well, that makes Thor 2 stupider then.
I'm not sure if I buy Indy's explanation. Invisible is invisible. You don't get any more invisible than invisible (literally unable to be seen).
Well unless the ships were just undetectable by ANY means, which is something else. Is there a word for that? You'd think there would be. Undetectable is just a mundane sounding word.
In other news, searching the word "undetectable" in Google does not bring up the definition/thesaurus, it brings up several articles about HIV.

@Rynjin, why would you say there is only one level of invisibility? There are many forms of detection, and it is possible to only have protection from some.
For example, astronomers are often able to learn about the existence of all sorts of far away celestial bodies just by seeing the impact their gravitational fields have on larger, visible objects. That, for example, is how we know of black holes and dark matter. One can also be "invisible" from sight, buy still leave a heat signature. Or a disturbance in the force, which will allow any rookie Jedi to know something's up.
In this case, the Dark Elves had such superior invisibility that even the magical gatekeeper that can literally see anything happening anywhere in the universe couldn't spot them. That's more than outsmarting human eyes and 21st century Earth radar technology.

Only if the audience is so stupid that simply wording "engaging the stealth mode" isn't enough, but they also need visual confirmation?
It's not stupidity. Movies are a visual medium and so most things a movie tries to communicate should have a strong visual component. You want your viewers to be able to follow the story even if they missed those 3 seconds in which someone said "engaging stealth mode". Unless you have a real story reason to avoid this, showing "stealth mode" as invisibility" is probably a good idea.

Sometimes telling goes a long way. Especially without showing. For instance, in Terminator 2. When Robert Patrick bot says "Say, that's a nice bike", and the scene ends. We all know what is going to happen.
By that point, the T-1000's penchant for murdering people with pointy stuff and mimicking them is well-established.
Lord Snow makes a good point. In Avengers, they had to do something to show how the freaking huge helicarrier bumbles around the skies without everyone knowing about it. Making it "invisible" is a great way to visually show that so that it doesn't require a bunch of monologue/dialogue to explain what's happening.
Like most things you see in the movies, the reality of "stealth" technology is very underwhelming to the average person.

That's not really telling either. That's inferring. Telling would have been if the next scene had been the guy reporting the theft of his bike to a cop.

I know they aren't going to kill Skye. Why do they have to mess with my heart so?
I did kind of hope that she'd at least poke fun at her 'special' uber-dangerous secret as she lay there bleeding, muttering that it couldn't have been that uber-dangerous if she wasn't even bulletproof... :)
If they shot Fitz, who seems the least 'you must love me!' of the cast, I'd be on pins and needles, not because I like the snippy prat, but because he's *exactly* the sort of expendable person who could die (since, between them, Simmons and Skye, can pretty much cover 'tech-geek'). He's also the sort of death that would lead to character development for most of the others (Simmons especially, but also Skye, forced to pick up her tech-geekery, and Ward, May and Coulson with their respective uber-guilt-trips / identically overdeveloped senses of responsibility).
Ward's the second most expendable, being basically almost as good a fighter as May, whose advantage is that he's slightly better with people (and Coulson's got that angle covered). But Hunky McSquareJaw probably gets to live, on account of having perfect teeth, and it seeming less senseless and shocking for action adventure 'dives out of planes' dude to die in action.
If Joss was more hands-on (and M. Night Shamalamadingdong levels of predictable), I'd totally expect the team to go on some crazy dangerous mission, leaving Fitz and Simmons on the plane, and at least twice in the episode we'd be left to think that May or Ward was dead, only to have them limp back to the plane, miraculously alive, to find that Centipede or whomever had gotten them off the plane so that they could sneak on and take something, leaving Fitz dead and Simmons in a coma, so that, just on the cusp of an awesome victory against all odds, they eat a shocking senseless tragedy right in the face, and leaving the viewing audience feeling disoriented and gut-punched by the tonal swing from "Woo!" to "Oh My Gosh!?"

He did what an international-level criminal would have no problem doing. Last time she crashed his party she caused lots of trouble. You can tell he's more at ease with white collar crimes though, because he didn't finish the job and let her there, still alive. This is a reminder that a pretty face won't always save you - I think she made foolish mistake partially due to her halo of invincibility (i.e. I got hired by SHIELD, look at me I'm always right, can hack into anything, I'm pretty, etc.)

Yeah, she was certainly punished there, though of course the bad guy DID have a serious case of The Stupid. You want her dead, shoot her twice more, in the head.
The Italian Bad Guy also had a severe case of The Stupid when he simply left a knife stuck in his captive and turned his back on her. Though, given his all around slimeball attitude, it might make sense that he's a chauvinist and so underestimated her.

R_Chance |

Actually I have a feeling it was not a case of The Stupid, but under orders of the clairvoyant. For Skye at least. I think it will awaken some latent ability. The knife in May was The Stupid.
Agreed. Quinn said he was following his orders when he shot her and he didn't look too happy about it. If he had wanted her dead, two in the head works better. I think it's the Clairvoyant prodding her into finding her special abilities (whatever those are) so he can recruit her (and wouldn't it be funny if she ended up a villain). So, next month we (may) find out...

![]() |

I will indeed laugh if she becomes a villain. Cue to "Three's Company" theme song...
"Come and knock at the door,
I've been waiting for you...
Don't you know I'm bad now
I know it's not really obvious...
Should I wear tighter pants?
Or shoot guns in your general direction casually?
What can I do other than sleeping in a van to get some street creds???
etc."
I know, it doesn't rhyme at all

Yeah, I'm pretty sure The Clairvoyant didn't want Skye dead. CV was able to arrange things so that Skye ended up in that villa's cellar alone. A cellar that had a hyperbaric chamber powered up and ready to go, which was the only reason that Skye's not dead from her gut wound. The CV's been pulling the strings masterfully for some time - why would he screw this up?
"NEW MISSION PARAMETER - SHOOT SKYE, BUT NOT TOO BAD"

This is exactly what I think.
This whole thing was to hurt Coulson. For some reason Coulson feels a very personal attachment to Skye. It is like the clairvoyant was saying "See Mr Coulson. I can hurt what you care most about any time I want." But he also made sure the equipment to save Skye would be on hand.
So the Clairvoyant has a personal interest in Coulson. Coulson has a personal interest in Skye. They are feeding us one tiny puzzle piece at a time and I have no clue yet where it's leading. Awesome!

Skye IS THE CLAIRVOYANT (actually her "other" personality is).
They always stop showing episodes around january...
Perhaps, but when you have a 3-4 week break in Dec. Have 2 episodes Jan. and then another 2-3 week break. 1 episode in Feb, followed by a 4 week break. That just seems silly to me.

Yeah, he probably doesn't have an implant. Those are for the people that get forced into working for EvilCo. If you went through the normal hiring channels (Craigslist), then you don't need to. Raina doesn't seem to have an ocular implant/cortex bomb, and neither did the evil doctor from episode 1. There's a hierarchy to the organization, and the higher you go, there's less need for a leash.

![]() |

Even if he does have an implant, they might have no need to trigger it now. As long as any information he gives up is information that his handlers *want* him to give up (whether or not he's providing deliberate misinformation, or has been himself filled with misinformation that he believes is true), he might be far more valuable to the bad-guys interests alive and chatting, spreading the information they want spread, or being taken into ultra-secure places that they might otherwise have trouble getting an agent into, so that they can spring some other Trojan horse-like surprise.
(Although if his tummy cracks open and a dozen tiny Greek soldiers pour out, I will indeed be surprised...)

![]() |

Yeah, the more I think about it, the less likely it is that he has a killswitch ocular implant. Let's say he does - SHIELD knows what to look for now, and would notice he's got one. If Quinn tells them some information about the Clairvoyant, and he's not killed, then they know it's info that's been approved by the Clairvoyant. If he tries to give actual secrets, then he dies. The only way his capture makes any sense tactically is if he's lacking an implant. Now the only way they can verify his intel is the old-fashioned way: doing the legwork.

Ok... GH325... let's talk!
- were they "growing" that body in the Guest House, or was that the remaining half of a previously full body?
- I can't help noticing that half body looked like half of Deadpool...
- is the G.H. for "growth hormone" i.e. MGH "mutant growth hormone" from the comics? (invented by Beast?)
- is the Asgardian chick "Lorelei" the Enchantress or something similar? and is she showing up due to GH325?
- why is Fury ignoring Coulson? weird...
- Bill Paxton. What the hell. Quinn/Clairvoyant. What gives? (and why were the SHIELD agents just talking all these secret things in front of him???)
