I personally find the box to be easily big enough to hold all the cards I'll need even with sleeves. I always have 2-3 scenarios prebuilt which I keep in the recess reserved for the empty boxes. This frees a up a bunch of space in the box making the cards fit with sleeves easily. It will get tighter with more expansions (I already have adventure 2) but I don't anticipate running out of space; there's room that I could have 4 adventures prepared ahead of time if I need to.

If you're prebuilding scenarios, you're affecting the random distribution of cards that are intended to make up those scenarios.
For example, there's 1 Trapped Locker in the game. It *should* be able to randomly turn up in any scenario, and could potentially turn up in *every* scenario. By prebuilding, you are ensuring that it appears in no more than 1 of the scenarios you've built.

Interesting the subject of sleeving cards would create one of the highest post counts on this board. I can see why, one caveat though - this is a phenomenal game and the organizing system is absolutely top notch. The issue isn't sleeving but the quality of the cards. They're cheeeeeeep! I'd be very willing to pay 15-20 dollars more for the base set, if constructed with stiff plastic card stock. This would more than off set the cost of campaign sleeving. Long term wear is going to become an issue. Not to mention some promos I'd missed out on are already 20 dollars plus on ebay. Piazo pls hear for future release considerations!

I bought sleeves for my character decks at Wal-mart. They work great and since they are colored I can tell which decks are mine and which decks are my wife's. This can be helpful when you give cards to characters during the game too. I use cheap clear sleeves for the locations, scenarios, adventures, and character cards with powers and feats. The shuffling is easy as you just slide the cards together. The ONLY issue I have come across is when you have the opportunity to heal yourself. You sort of know which cards were part of your deck and which ones you have acquired.

What kind (size and brand, that is) of card sleeves would everyone recommend to use with the cards? And, more importantly, will the cards still fit in the tray while in sleeves?
Thanks
I'm using the Ultra Pro Premium clear for the Character cards. Which has been nice as I can sharpie directly onto the sleeve for the Character feats as they improve, without ruining the card.

I actually went the other way, and got super cheap (.75 for 100 from my flgs), especially since by my count the end game card countwill be over 1000, and I play a lot (well, I should say my set gets used a lot. It's not always just me who is playing with it). It hurts the wallet a bit less then paying for good sleeves for the game, and it's a bit easier to replaces sleeves should they get damaged/spilled on (it could happen). That said, though, it did take me like 1.5 hours to sleeve up to set 3 with the character add-on deck. I did it while watching tv, so it mighta taken less time.

I used Ultra Pro clear sleeves on mine.
My game store helped me chose the correct sleeve size. They cost $5.00 per hundred.
They are just slightly wider and taller than the cards, by maybe a milimeter, and still fit into the slots in the box.
They do not cause cards to bend and fold like I saw some of NOG's doing.
UltraPro's penny sleeves work just as well and only cost $.99 per hundred.
Hawkmoon269 |
I tried the UltraPro penny sleeve's but they had too much length compared to the card for me and tended to have the card slide around a bit too much. So I switched to the Ultra Pro standard size deck protectors. So I guess its just a preference questions, with cost obviously being a factor in the preference.
For the character cards, I made color copies of them on cardstock. I even did ones with the role cards overlapping the character cards. Then I cut them out. I have extras on hand for anytime anyone starts a new character. Its worked out great.

First Post here, throwing in my two cents worth of data. Played the game a ton with new people to introduce the game. Lets say I played a lot of perils of the lost cost...
Two of the people I played with went out that day and each bought a set!
Finally got a regular group together to play with. I have not sleeved my cards. I'd like to but the cost is expensive. Ditto for my two friends.
That being said I think the insert is awesome. They designed it for the person who is gonna just play it as is. Which is perfect. If someone wants to go through the time and effort and money to sleeve their cards I imagine they will go through the time effort and money to through away the insert and provide their own solution.
TLDR
Cards do not come sleeved. Box does accommodate sleeved cards. Perfectly acceptable.
Sleeping costs time and effort and money to do. Modifying the box probably takes less of each of that to do for sleeved cards.

So far, I've bought the base set and the character add-on pack, and I've sleeved everything in Dragon Shields. Clear for the double-sided cards, and black for everything else. When I first opened the box, it was obvious that the insert wouldn't be able to accommodate the sleeves, so I starting looking and asking around to see how other people dealt with the issue.
After some browsing around on BGG, and talking with others who purchased the game, I found this organizer for sale, first linked in a BGG thread: http://www.thebrokentoken.com/pathfinder-adventure-card-game-box-organizer/
This took a little bit of work to put together, but it replaces the plastic insert completely, and fits very well in the original box, while allowing for any sort of adjustments you'd want to make to the storage of the cards.
It is a bit pricier than just using another method, but it works great for sleeved cards.

I second WoodManZX's endorsement of the Broken Token organizer. It works like a charm. Plenty of room for sleeved cards.
A minor downside is you can't fit the boxes for all the adventures in the box. (You can fit the cards, but not the boxes.) There's room for 4 such boxes.
I did have a little trouble putting it together (I'm not very good at such things), but with a little effort it came together just fine.

You can open both ends of the box and lay it flat. You should be able to fit all of them that way either by fitting them into a slot or by laying them on top.

I think I am set for the current Runelords set, but am going to use that Broken Token organizer for the Skull & Shackles set.
To that end, I hope that Paizo will when it releases divulge how many of each type of card will be printed for the adventure path as a whole so that I know where to put those card dividers.

The good thing about Broken Token is how easy it is to change. Just keep the same type of card in each of the rows as they are set up in the box. You can move the dividers as needed when you get new cards.

Thanks for the note. I saw on BGG that Hawkmoon had glued his together, and I wasn't sure if that meant you needed to do so. I hadn't looked at it yet because I've been spending my free "crafting time" for PACG on making a custom turntable for the game that's really starting to turn out nicely.
If the Broken Token insert it has a lot of flexibility, that'll be great.

Quasi-necro bump.
I seem to remember reading that the S&S box would be the same dimensions as RotRL (so the Broken Token organizer would work for S&S, as well), but I can't for the life of me find the thread. Can any one confirm the boxes will be the same size?

For those that are trying to sleeve, I read somewhere that the Ultra-Pro standard size Pro Fit sleeves would work better as they are narrower and shorter, but they were VERY difficult to put on and have cupped many of the cards so that they do not lay flat. I am hopeful that with play the sleeves will stretch a bit and the cards will re-flatten, but I would not recommend them at this point.
Here is the base set with the character expansion for reference once sleeved.
I HAVE to sleeve my cards because of the 2nd printing/1st printing card back problem.
Your setup looks fine, but I don't use that 6-slot character place at all, I just record the decks on paper, so it doesn't seem like a problem if you just divide the blessings and monster decks into this area right? It saddened me a bit to see Vic think sleeving was a bad idea. I don't really feel like I have an choice here if I want to play the game properly, unless I'm missing something. I've invested >$200 in the game so it feels like I'm committed to making this work at the point.

Oh, neat! Ever since my kids spilled some juice over a dozen of my cards (I've never mopped up a spillage so fast!) I've been thinking about sleeving my cards but I wanted to find a practical way to do so while keeping all the components inside the actual box. That product seems to fit the bill nicely although, as is often the way, shipping is as much as the organiser itself.. though still cheaper than having to buy another new RotR base set ;)

I tend to sleeve most of my card games, and PACG is not different.
Usually I understand both the pro-sleeve and anti-sleeve group, but for PACG there is another thing to consider above the otherwise very pracical insert, or the place in the box. It's card quality.
Honestly speaking, PACG cards seems to be one of the less durable I ever seen for a card game, especially considering how much shuffling is needed during the game. Setup for a 6 player game is in itself a shuffling fest, even before the first turn!
So if you want any kind of longevity for your cards, sleeving is a must.
And considering this, the current insert is not up to the task.
Thankfully there are several ways to replace the insert from simple card boxes to excellent 3rd party solutions - with adequate dividers.

To be clear, I think sleeving is a great idea, just not with the Ultra-Pro Profit variety.
I have been sleeving my LOTR LCG cards with the Ultrapro pro-matte sleeves which are available in the Paizo store, and they shuffle really nicely. The glossy clear deck protector sleeves don't shuffle nearly as nicely (though the quality is really nice), eager to see how the printed back PACG sleeves will work out. I suspect that like the LOTR Theme printed sleeves they will be a bit sticky in the beginning, but will eventually get roughed up a bit and shuffle smoothly.
I wouldn't really mind at all eventually picking a color for each card set, getting a couple display boxes of those, and theme sleeving by color each adventure path.

I figure this thread is as good as any for my sleeve question:
I'm looking to sleeve just character cards so we can write on them with dry-erase markers as needed. Can anyone recommend an Amazon page for sleeves that fit snugly so the cards don't move around and make the feat markings look weird and out of place? Since I just want these for character and role cards, obviously problems caused by shuffling or whatever don't apply to me. I know I've seen people talk about my question before, but googling around didn't give me much, and even the results I found (like in this thread) I couldn't really tell conclusively what kind of sleeves they were talking about, or rather, I had trouble finding a corresponding Amazon listing.

I use these, which work well. They do have the Ultra Pro silver dot on them, but if I remember correctly that does not get in the way of anything on the character cards. I would have to check to be sure.
Love your show, by the way. ;)

I sleeve all my PACG cards in them. I love them. The dot is not a problem because you can put it on either side or even put the card in upside down and it will hit a blank spot.

I'm in the same boat. The card back printing problem is going to force me to sleeve at least some of these cards. I never intended on sleeving these cards due to the added expense, however, I'm going to have to sleeve at least my character decks and any cards currently used at locations. At this point, my plan is to sleeve and un-sleeve cards at locations because I really don't want to buy sleeves for the base set, the character addon deck and the other 5 adventures. It's going to be a pain, but I feel like I need to do it to play the game correctly. Honestly, it's somewhat soured my experience with this game. I've got a ticket into Paizo explaining my problem. Hopefully they'll come through and help me out. :)

I use Ultra Pro Clear Deck Protectors which seem a bit heftier than other brands. I use them exactly the way you describe

This was for a big batch but I use them for other games. Feel free to get a lesser amount good sir :)

I use Ultra-Pro Pro Matte for all my PACG cards, in various colors:

I use yellow for S&S since the main theme color is yellow. For class decks, I buy one pack of a color, and the matching deck box for storage.
I also bought one of these from Broken Token:
http://www.thebrokentoken.com/pacg-organizer/
and I'll swear by it every chance I get.

Currently I'm only using sleeves for my character cards. I use KMC perfect size sleeves and mark on those sleeves. They fit very well and don't allow the card to slide around within. I then use a ultra pro penny sleeve over it to keep the marks from rubbing off to any other cards in the character's deck.

I'm currently playing Rotr at home with my fiance(picked up complete and used[the set, not my Fiance]), and S&S organised play. I have the subscription for the Wrath set and I plan on sleeving everything for that set and use a broken token insert. Has it been confirmed the box size will be the same for the wrath set?

I am still undecided about sleeving...I know some people say their cards showed "wear" after x amount of play time. I am new to rpg card games. Can someone show a pic of common "wear" after x amount of time.
Thanks!
I sleeved my cards almost right after I got them, because I knew it was going to get a lot of play with OP coming. And it has. Easily had 25+ games and no problems.
