That's how I understood it as well, sorry.

As to the Iomedaean rebels, Rexus mentioned the Glorious Reclamation back when he was trying to recruit the PCs.
Yes, the Iomedaean dissidents are referring to the Glorious Reclamation. They have a much bigger role to play in Hell’s Vengeance (whose events run parallel to Hell’s Rebels’s events), but the main thing that y’all would know is that the Glorious Reclamation are an Iomedaean rebel group operating in the Chelish heartland and are the primary catalyst for the Queen’s declaration of martial law across the country.

Since there’s a paladin in the party, I’m going to assume that you’d still try to save Hortense.
Of course we are!

Hey, just covering my bases. Just because I’m making a very safe assumption doesn’t mean it’s not still an assumption.
The velstrac is one freaky looking thing. That’s some Hellraiser s%&+ right there.
Vitalis Tanessen |
Chance reluctantly draws his +1 silver dagger and glances up at Vitalis’s glaive clearly not-silver glaive.
Yes, that is something I will need to remedy soon.

There, I got the bad rolls out of the way for the rest of you. You’re welcome.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
I'm still here, and I'm pretty sure Chance is. I know Edrakk's player is a bit inconsistent, but Chance is apparently in contact with them. Dunno where Jisara is, since she said she would be back on the 15th, which was three days ago.

Sorry guys, getting back into the swing of things has taken longer than expected. I'm working on catching up.

Sorry, I'm trying to work on that. Hopefully once I have a more solid schedule again it'll get easier.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
I'm not sure if I need to make an attack to hit a square like you do in 1E, and I couldn't find the rule, so I'll make one just in case.
I would say that it depends on the circumstances, but with a situation like this, I would just say aim for AC 12.
4 piercing splash damage, unless Inspire Courage applies, which would make it 5.
This is a weird fringe case, but I’m going to say that inspire courage doesn’t apply to the splash damage.

Hey everyone. This last week I had multiple exposures to covid and, while my rapid test came back negative, I am definitely sick with something and have very little energy. I am waiting on a PCR test to let me know for sure what I do or don't have.
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
I hope it’s just a cold, Jisara - last month, I had my first cold in a year and a half and it wiped me out for most of a week. Whatever it turns out to be, I hope it passes quickly.
Edrakk Chrysanthemum |
I'm so sorry to hear that, hopefully it's nothing more than a bad cold and you get better soon.

I downloaded my PDF of Secrets of Magic today. I’m just starting to dig into it, but it lots of new rituals to play with, and I think Chance may start spending most of his downtime making a Personal Staff (pages 166-67).

Yes, well, as much as I would like to say the same I’m not a subscriber, so I have to wait until the street date, thank you very much!
Vitalis Tanessen |
My internet connection is terrible where I am. I thought maybe the inspire courage added to the intimate. But I couldn’t look it up to check. It didn’t matter anyway.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
Quick request, Vitalis: could you just roll me a d20 here in Discussion for me?
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
@Vitalis - moved you into the flank.

Looking at it again, I realize that Vitalis uses a reach weapon. Should you be one square further away than I placed you?
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
Gotcha. Fixed.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
[Dice=1d20]1d20
Sure.
If it’s a bad thing, I have hero points too.
The d20 was for something else, but how's about this: I'll give you a small hint at the cost of one Hero Point.
Vitalis Tanessen |
I’m on my way home today. It was fun but it was a long, hot week. I’ll be able to post regularly and move my token starting tomorrow.
Jisara |
Sorry for dropping off the face of the earth. I do indeed have covid, but am slowly getting back to feeling like a human being again. I'll try and get back up to speed again soon.
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
I’m so sorry to hear that, Jisara. I hope you make a complete recovery soon.
Vitalis Tanessen |
How are you doing Jisara? Feeling any better?
Hopefully no one was caught in Hurricane Ida. It looks bad.

I'm keeping us in encounter mode for the moment, because I think I've made it very clear that the velstrac has regeneration. But she currently has a -6 to AC from being unconscious.
I recall we needed either good or silver.

That is indeed the information I conveyed to you, yes.

@GM - I just reread your last post. I’m tired and a bit distracted with work, but am I correct that Chance succeeded at the flat check to stop bleeding?

That is correct.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
How many hit points does Chance have? Xavier's tally says -56 hp but Chance's character sheet says he has max 48 hp...?
False life was going at the start of combat, which gave him 10 more HP.
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
Whoops - forgot to make Chance’s Will save. I’ll add it in Gameplay.
Thanks for the healing, Vitalis. Between soothe (16) and your lay on hands (12), Chance should be up to 30 hp. That should be enough for another round or two.

Hero Points have reset
Also, with Secrets of Magic now out, I would like to say one thing: This campaign is one of, like, two that would really get your money’s worth out of taking the Hatred emotion of Cathartic Mage (specifically if you chose Barzillai as the emotional focus). Just wanted to put that out there in case folks thought about doing some retraining.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |
And not to rub salt on the wound, but that hint that I was mentioning? The hint would have been that Octavio specifically gave Vitalis a silver shortsword.
“Chance” Ravennablitz |
Welcome back, Jisara! I hope you've fully recovered, or will soon.

That is a very interesting archetype, and I can see what you mean about it being unusually appropriate for this AP. It's rare to know who the BBEG is right from the start (or at least, we think we do), and to be fighting his followers almost constantly. The core mechanic also seems likely to get Chance killed if he were to take it (which is not in any way a dealbreaker):
Catharsis Trigger You start your first turn in an encounter against your emotional focus or one of their followers. If the encounter includes multiple eligible followers and doesn't include your actual emotional focus, choose one of the followers to act as your emotional focus for this encounter (or until your actual emotional focus shows up).
Catharsis Activation You can Step or Stride. You must end this movement closer to your emotional focus.
Emotional Fervor Your emotional focus is flat-footed to you and takes a –2 status penalty to saves against your spells. You're flat-footed to your emotional focus and take a –2 status penalty to saves against it. Spell: blood vendetta
Emotional Fallout You become stunned 2.
I’ll give it some more thought over the weekend. I have had the Ritualist archetype in my head for this character since the start, but I want to take a longer look at the new rituals in SoM to make sure the mechanics will be at least half as good as the flavor.
GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I know this is me being a bit weird about it, but Cathartic Mage is probably my favorite thing in SoM, because I myself am a very overly-emotional person, and…it just gives me the ability to visualize it. That not all catharsis has to be related to primarily negative emotions.

Do we have any time to shop? I'd like to pick up a thing or two if possible. Specifically a lifting belt and holy water.
Or maybe I should get a silver weapon first. But that then involves transferring the runes. So I'd need more time.

All that primarily is determined by you guys. The Lucky Bones isn’t going anywhere. That said, Chance is on the right track; you guys have NO idea what’s down there, and you do have a moderately-sized organization at your disposal, so…I should probably put more downtime activities related to this (that I frankly should have posted at the start, but c’est la vie):
Requirements Expert in Secrecy; Effect By spending 4 days of downtime, you organize a team to scout out a location and report back to you on any information they received. This works exactly like Gathering Information, save that a Secrecy check is rolled instead of Diplomacy. The DC and information gathered on each degree of success varies based on the location being scouted.
Requirements Master in Secrecy; Effect By spending 4 days of downtime, you organize a team to covertly take action towards a specific location—setting traps, taking keys, and so forth. Attempt a Secrecy check. The DC and effects on each degree of success varies based on the location being sabotaged.
Vitalis Tanessen |
Then I guess I'll go for the silver weapon first. I can't afford both yet. But probably after this next location, I can afford the other.
Will Covert Infiltration or Sabotage benefit where we are going next? Or are they just for Infiltration?
Also, do we need to be aware of a specific person captured to use the Rescue Character option or can we just rescue random people out of prison?

They are not just for infiltration (the subsystem with Awareness, Edge Points, etc.); they are specifically for outside the infiltration subsystem; I will try to be explicit when something pertains to that subsystem (though calling it "Covert Infiltration" doesn't help).
Rescue Character is primarily intended for rescuing specific individuals. I'm open to allowing other uses, though.
