Gethric Orted
Gethric visibly tenses when the hellknight comes into view. Scanning the man's armor he relaxes only slightly when he is able to identify the man's order. I thought I was back in Cheliax for a moment. At least I should be able to remain civilized enough to avoid the wrath of this one. Despite the calming of his thoughts, his left hand moves unconsciously to rest upon his leather roll
"Should you not be outside tonight armiger? or does the Nail only attend when the savages come looting?"
Based on what I've seen in the spoilers people are posting, I'm firming up on Knife Master as my archetype - but will need to wait for the public PDF release before I can confirm the specifics.

Greetings, DM Patcher. I am interested in submitting an Alchemist whose reasons for going after Lamm are slightly different. Integral to his backstory is that he was the one to train Lamm's alchemist but that the ungrateful swine tried to kill him with bomb. Injured and wrathful, he has spent two decades tracking him down, foregoing his own studies on a mission of vengeance. I am thinking True Neutral for alignment and playing him as a social chameleon. What are your thoughts on this fledgling idea?
Tilnar
Wow, so, made a half-elven (adopted by dwarves) cleric of Torag (was even entering the profile) -- and then came back and looked to see all the divine casters.
So I'm in the process of making a wizard, probably a battle-wizard who may head toward EK -- and looking at the academae graduate feat. Should be ready by end of day.

As Texas Red
A big man with red hair sits in the corner of the bar drinking his ale while studying a piece of paper. He took Jel's dark corner he was sitting in as he got up to the bar.
"You are hereby pardoned and charges have been dropped henceforth by....Man I didn't ask to be freed... but now that I am I better do what he says. Not a lot of money to win in there for fights."
Durant
"I suppose so. Who am I? I'm just a guy who cares too much in a city where they really don't care at all. I came here for a drink and a place to rest for a bit. It's been a long day.." Demitri seems distracted by his thoughts as he says that last bit, but he shakes his head as if to break free of them. "So you say this is your stomping grounds? I've never heard of you."
"Well I've been spending most of my time up on the shingles. So I haven't been by as much as I'd like. Glad to see the place is as friendly as ever. Good to know you Demitri."
To Chavakala, chuckling. "Yes let the Hell-Knight hold the door, while the mob eats him I will have you up and out and dancing over the rooftiles before the flames can take hold. I'm Durant by the way."
Rune
"I'm sure you fully intended it as an insult, Durant, but I'll take it as a compliment. If I succeed in buying you time so you'll survive, I'll have done my duty." Finishing the sentence, he drinks up a glass of whiskey and turns to Gethric.
"That's an interesting set of knives, may I ask what purpose do they serve?"
Kalizkan
DM Patcher, I am interested in applying (obviously--otherwise I wouldn't be posting here), and was wondering how you feel about the Magus Class, the Hexcrafter archetype and the Staff Magus archetype.
I'm kicking around ideas for a wandering Varisian or somesuch who came to Korvosa and lost his child to Lamm a few months before the start of the adventure. Potentially, a Hexcrafting Staff Magus could be interesting (and, unless I'm reading the class feature replacements wrong, should be viable), but I might go with something else at this point--certainly so if you don't like stacking archetypes or anything like that.

"Less an insult, more a tweak. I have had little to do with your order but that little I have not liked. Perhaps you will change my mind." "Try the Dunkel brew, you won't be disappointed."

"Well I've been spending most of my time up on the shingles. So I haven't been by as much as I'd like. Glad to see the place is as friendly as ever. Good to know you Demitri."
"That would explain it. It has been an interesting conversation, so thank you.' He replies to Durant.
When he notices Galdran come into the room, he mutters to himself. "Oh joy, just what we need. A friggin' Hellknight."
Vyshael Invisus
Tilnar here (Gathien there)... Here's my submission (click for profile). A few small comments -- as I wrote the history for this, the traits and feats changed (I guess this story flowed better). Anyhow, I'm still in Eastern Time.
One question - I used starting cash to scribe some scrolls - if that's no ok, let me know and I'll remove the extras.
1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
Lamm set me up for murder and had me cast out of the Academae. My graduating was, essentially, my mother's dying wish -- and would likely have been the only thing I'd ever do that connected us. And so, rather than now being an accomplished graduate with a bright future and peace of mind, I'm a hedge-wizard that people whisper about who failed his personal hero.
2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
I think the King should have known better than to take a young gold-digger as a wife. Either he's a fool asking to be cuckholded, or she bewitched him. Either way, neither are very deserving of my respect.
3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
Well, first, I could disintegrate Lamm....
However, Lamm is more a symptom than the disease -- he's but one of many petty crime-lords, and the fact is that these have been here so long that they've rooted, such that there's no clear line between them and the merchants and nobles of the City anymore. Add to that the lingering taint of Chelish influence, and the inherent racism.... The empty parts of the city are a perfect analogy for the emptiness of its soul.
But as to what I can do... Well, as I said, disintegrating Lamm and his ilk would be the best start -- and then, one hopes, setting a better example for the people.
4. What will your character contribute to the group?
Battlefield control, buffs - and (later) melee combat ability.
5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
I'm intending to bridge into Eldritch Knight after a few levels of wizard. The Magical Knack Trait means I won't really lose too much in casting power (though I will have delayed progression and fewer slots).
6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Vyshael has never really been forced to think for himself or plan ahead. He wants to live up to an idealized version of being a "hero" like his mother, but all he's heard are stories and so his notion of such things is far more romantic than practical. However, being framed for murder does do much to strip away someone's sense of the romantic, and so he's at a crossroads now. Focusing on Lamm gives him direction - something that he lost in his expulsion - and even though it's a shallow and narrow goal, it may also be the first one he's actually chosen for himself. Ultimately, Vyshael is somewhat of a lost soul trying to find a purpose and meaning in life -- and his loss of faith in the gods only makes it all the worse.
7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
His mother was a paladin, and so it's quite possible she was highborn - but all he really knows of his mother are the stories that the gnome and sprite told him. He carries her sword and signet, but has no idea what the story behind them is...
Beyond that, he has no real knowledge of his father at all, other than him having been part of the enclave.
Vyshael Invisus
Vyshael throws down the dice in disgust... This is even uglier than the riot outdoors. Best quit while I still have the coin to drink...
With that, he stands and motions toward the bar, calling out, "Mulled wine, if you would, to see if I can't warm my body on this night that gives me chills.."
Aye, the conversation in here is about as grim as I feel. Might as well join in.... Seeing the hellknight, he sudders slightly You're a free man, remember. Even if only barely.
When he arrives at the bar, he raises his drink toward the others in a silent toast, and takes a deep drink. "I would say it depends on how one defines 'City'. The stones will be here tomorrow, but if stones alone made a city, there would be many more out there. The spirit? The soul? The heart? These are different things altogether, and I fear that these are dying here." He raises his glass again, this time in greeting, "Sorry to intrude, but this conversation seems to match my own dark mood. I am Vyshael."

I believe my character generation rules allow stacking archetypes, so that wouldn't be a problem at all. Go for it.

I like how you go for a different motivation to get Lamm, but the question is: after exerting vengeance, what's your motivation to continue?
Patcher. If selected I will likely go with the UC's Martial Artist. Think a non-mystic monk/unarmed fighter.
I'll have a look at it - if it is blatantly overpowered (it shouldn't be), I may refuse it, but I think it'll be okay. When I get my copy I'll give a general statement about my thoughts on the book.

I may change my mind once I see it. I'm operating on hearsay at the moment. This looks like it will be a fun game.

Is it alright to be from this city?
Specifically: My father being an ex-Hellknight, as well as owning a home in the city? My character works as a Mercenary guard for money as he's trying to fund finding his sister. He's trying to gain some prestige on the 'line level' guards to have more pull if he finds his sister kidnappers. I don't exactly see my character carrying all of his 'gear' around the city with him - bad for Roleplay if he did!
If yes, is it okay if his 'Signet Ring' that I bought has the logo of the local Hellknights (His fathers old ring)?
1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
He took my sister - she's the one thing that I've always had in my life. She's almost like a daughter as I raised her from a baby up to her kidnapping.
2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
He's too busy trying to worry about his own back, finding his sister, and keeping his dad out of jail to care about what "some money grubbing bimbo" is after in the royal corts!
3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
Yes. He strives to be as great of a man as his father was, which he was one of the nicer Hellknights. He wants to do better than his own father whom was a higher ranking individual within the order.
4. What will your character contribute to the group?
He's planned to be a slight comic relief, but at the same time an edgy seriousness in finding his sister. He's still naive so his perceptions of the cities problems haven't sunk in as of yet. (Room to grow with the campaign!)
5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
He's planned to be a support fighter... Specifically to focus on feinting and disarming. He's going to be one tough son-of-a gun to get past too.
6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
To get his sister back, only to see that the city has befallen a horrible surrounding, and his time to follow in his fathers footsteps finally arises. He has a code of conduct, one that he always follows, and is a lot like his Hellknight father and has an almost extremist ideal of justice.
7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
I see him being more 'past nobility' (his father, maybe) but after the way he was discharged, they slummed into the lowborn commoners category. His father would've been ejected from the Hellknights for unknown reasons... Even unsure whether it was honorable or not.
A man wearing nothing but a typical grey and black travelers outfit with the sleeves torn off walks in from the back door, which is still unboarded. A bastard sword on his back, star knife on his belt, and a hand running through his hair, he sighs as he frowns slightly before sitting at the bar next to the chatting group. "Whatever you wanna give me, 'Tender" he says a bit exhaustedly. He placed two silver pieces on the bar awaiting his drink as he can't help but side glance at the overly excited man, whom introduced himself as Demitri.
"Mind keeping it down bub? Not all of us's excited to be ourselves as you are..." he can't help but smirk slightly.

I'm thinking about playing a witch, now I would love to have her as a dedicated healer and supporter, obviously taking the Healing patron for the restoration line and some other things. Picking up healing hex, fortune, and what other buffs there are. Some debuffs as well, but not main priority.
Probably even the Hedge Witch archetype, but I have to play that through to see if its really worth it.
However I have to admit I never played a witch like this, so I'm not sure how it will work out. Also I guess if you take a dedicated cleric/oracle healer in the group, that concept might not be that great anymore, so it does somewhat depend on the final composition of the group.
So, I wanted to ask, if that is going to be a dealbreaker right here, that you'd rather have a cleric or so, I understand that, but would apreciate if you told me right now, so I can maybe come up with another idea before I get invested to much in this.
Thanks

Admittedly I am rather tired so I won't read your profile in-depth right now. I won't allow the usage of hellknight gear at 1st level (since, well, it is ridiculously powerful - even if it is taboo) - but your father being an ex-hellknight works, and socially having some pull I'm fine with (so long as the scope isn't too big). So go for it. I'll ask more specific questions and worries (for all of you) tomorrow.

No problem! His father isn't a Hellknight anymore, and his armor is gone. The only thing he has is a Signet ring with a logo. Nothing special about it except for it's a logo.
He himself is NOT a Hellknight - he just may end up striving to be one later in life. Right now he's too focused on getting his sister back.

Ooooo a feinting/disarming fighter would work Very well with my monk.
Patcher. Good night DM. We'll be here in the morning.
"So... who's health do we get to drink to now then, the queen?"
"Well, folks are yelling that the king is dead. But mobs can get wound up pretty easy. If it's true then the Queen will step in. Should be interesting to watch."

Vyshael smirks at that slightly and says, "Some might disagree with you and say that it is merely that the city is long into its death throes."
"The city's heart and soul was lost a long time ago. The uncaring richers in this city have seen to that." Demitri replies as he raises his mug of ale. "Demitri." He says introducing himself.
Vyshael nods in greeting to and agreement with Dimitri. "Aye, the merchants, the nobles, the crimelords... it is difficult to tell them apart -- or, for that matter, decide who is worse."

"That is an easy riddle. The crimelords. The nobles, the merchants and the bosses are all obsessed with power. They all crush people who are in their way but only the crimelords actually think about how to it is ways that cause the most pain. Give me a noble or a merchant prince anyday. At least they will kill you quick."

He grumbles slightly in retort, sneaking into the conversation himself. "Seriously... This is a bar. You guys are all way, way too serious for this... But, if anything, both have to exist for the other to. Questioning who'll 'win' is a bit, ah... Dumb?"
Vyshael Invisus
Vyshael nods with a snort at the reply, "I am not sure, Durant - the question is whether you're better off being crushed by someone who wants to see you suffer or someone indifferent. One is cruel, the other callous. Either way, however, you end up crushed... However, " he pauses, taking another sip of his wine, "I've only been crushed by one type, so far... Let's give it time - I may yet be able to judge objectively."
Apparently the wine and riots are loosening my tongue, I'd best be careful...
He then turns to face the newcomer, "Apologies if the conversation is dragging down your spirits... though I would have thought the riot would have already interrupted your merriment."

I do request that you give me your race, class, alignment, ability scores, saves, skills and traits.
Race: half-elf most likely. Might change to human if I realise I desperately need the extra feat.
Class: Witch.
Alignment: N or NG
Ability scores: STR: 8 DEX: 14 CON: 13 INT: 18 WIS: 12 CHA: 12
Saves: Fort +1, Ref +2, Wis +3
Skills: Spellcraft, Knowledge (arcana), UMD at least.
Traits: Dropout from the Campaign, other two not decided yet
1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
He framed me for a murder, which got me tossed out of the Academae and disowned by my family.
2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
I don't really like the King, but have no personal experience with the queen herself. I think most rumors about her are just spread by jealous people.
3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
Funny, as a child I didn't think so. I'm a half-elf, what can one like me do, even when I was a member of a noble family? Now, after I lost it all? Yes, I do. By helping the people that need help, because I realised that every little bit counts.
4. What will your character contribute to the group?
See above, Healing and buffs mostly. Knowledge skills, some arcane magic.
5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
I will most likely stay a witch forever. Focusing her on healing and party support, with some debuffing, but thats not the focus. If I find a good PrC that fits with that concept, I might go there, but I doubt it.
6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
She wants to take down Lamm, not so much for revenge, but to prevent others from suffering under him. Also yes, to show her family that they were wrong.
7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
Bastard child of a young noble woman and one of the elves at the Mierani enclave, possibly Perishial himself. She had been recognized as a member of the family, but has always been looked upon as a stain on the family, and it was made quite clear to her that she'd never gain any of the family titles. She was send to the Academae mostly to get rid of her, and when she got kicked out, the family disowned her as well. (more in the background to come)
Mitch McHale
He then turns to face the newcomer, "Apologies if the conversation is dragging down your spirits... though I would have thought the riot would have already interrupted your merriment."
He blinks a few times as if in bewilderment, turning his head back towards the boarded up door, hearing the commotion outside. "Well by Torag's ale bubblin' beard, there is'a riot!" he pauses momentarily before taking a large swig of his newly acquired ale. He finally speaks again a bit more quietly, "Guess I didn't notice" he shrugs a bit helplessly.

"It appears you and I have more in common than you thought, Demitri. This city is diseased, to the point where a cleric would have to cut a limb or two to prevent festering. But as long as there are those who benefit from this so-called disease, they'll never procure treatment. It falls to others to diagnose and cure it, but there's not one person willing to make a stand."
For all the seriousness of the bar chat, Galdran finds it fits his mood quite well, and the answers come easily (even though he had never consciously thought about this before).
I know it wasn't directed at me, but I hadn't known about Hellknight equipment (other than the armor the prestige class offers) and despite my description, I would wear a simple iron breastplate with the devil etchings.
Jel Camo
Jel is a bit perturbed by all the serious talk and turns to contemplate the barred door. He takes a long drink and speaks to the whole group. "Isn't it all terribly exciting, though? This is my first riot. Do they happen often here. I've been gone from the city so long I don't recall them at all..."
Demitri Severin
"I dunno about all'that. There's what?... Three different groups'a people who watch over the land here? Give it an hour and'a few tankards first. We'll see how long it takes!"
He raises his ale in the air as if to signify a toast.
"You assume they care enough to do anything. But while they sit on their asses, we can drink. Barkeep? 2 more, both doubles." He says as he raises the glass he has. He downs it quickly while he waits for another one.

Finished my backstory and character info. In the profile for anyone interested :)
"Worried? Why would you be worried? What's the worst that could happen?" He smiles jovially and tosses a handful of coins on the counter. "How about a round on me? Maybe we can get some of you to relax while we're safe locked away in here.... Or we could head out and join the fun." His grin and wink makes it impossible to tell if he's joking or not.
Mitch McHale
He nonchalantly grabs the silver that he placed on the bar top, placing it back in his pocket pouch, taking his newly paid round from the oddly tattoo'd man.
"Until the seneschal releases orders, we're probably better off here."
He patiently taps a finger on the bar top as he takes the first swig of his new ale. He can't help but grin.
Demitri Severin
"You assume he will. If he did, that would be admitting that something was wrong. It would not be politically correct to admit something is wrong." Demitri replies.
"I've never turned down free drink before, no need to start now. Another one, barkeep. Keep'em coming!" Is all he can say to the offer from Jel.
Jel Camo
"How I came to be here? Well, I walked," he smiles. "Actually, I was born here, or at least I think I was. I was here as a child for a number of years, and lets just say I have some... business I have to take care of before I feel I can get on with my life." He seems a bit flustered to actually be talking about his past. "I'm planning on enrolling in one of the magic schools around here if they'll have me... assuming they survive the night."

A fair question. I'm taking liberty, just a little mind, as I actually have the first book of the AP so I'm aware of the bridge between the 'Lamm incident' and the rest of the adventure.
Given the opportunity to mingle with royalty, he'll take it. He's spent so many years tracking down his target that he'll feel some payoff, aside from the obvious gratification of eliminating the Gnome who attempted to kill him, that the chance to become known to Korvosan royalty and the upper echelons of Korvosan society will become too great a treat for him to ignore.
Yes, he'll be a social climber but as to how far he gets? Who knows!
Lythal Nemur
"I'm told humans have a saying: your mistakes catch up to you in the end. I intend to catch up to my mistake. I once trained a Gnome in the arts of alchemy, only for the ungrateful wretch attempt to kill me with a bomb. That Gnome is now a lackey of a human criminal called Gaedren Lamm, who apparently extorts young children to do his crimes for him, leaving them in the 'care' of that miserable little bastard who tried to kill me. Killing Lamm will be purely business, but killing the Gnome? Well, that'll be a pleasure."
2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
"The matters of human court are of little concern to me, although tension always introduces the opportunities for those with conviction to rise to the top. Perhaps once I have concluded my business with Lamm, I can see fit to introduce myself as a patron of the alchemical arts to some of the local nobles and see what... assistance I can offer."
3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
"Better is such a subjective word. Could I change Korvosa? Certainly. Removing Lamm and his lackey would be a first step. In a city of such problems, there is always scope for change. Sometimes peacefully, but predominantly violently."
4. What will your character contribute to the group?
Damage dealing and face skills. Also, a cheap supply of alchemical items assuming you are willing to allow me to craft now and again.
5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
For the moment, stick with Alchemist and improve upon face/stealth skills.
6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Lythal is both a social chameleon and a social climber. He'll attempt to install himself in the Korvosan social scene as a man of intellect whilst quietly subverting or eliminating anyone he sees as a threat to his newfound station. However, this will not prevent him from doing good deeds. Indeed, in the chaos that ensues from the King's death, the best way to reach the top may well be to counter-act the evil all around him.
7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
Lythal, as an Elf, could not be of royal blood. Noble blood, perhaps, but not royal. The manner in which he carries himself certainly places him higher than a lowly commoner, however.
A hooded figure that had, until now, remained silent surveyed the room and the patrons of this particular establishment. It was not up to his usual standards, but Lythal had felt the undercurrents of revolution ever since his arrival in Korvosa and he had figured that rooming in an establishment below his usual high standards might well prove more amenable to his continued existence. Besides, at least the wine was passable.
"It seems something has riled up the populace," he said, tipping his head towards the barred door. His voice was lilting, a clue to a trained ear as to his race. "It seems there is much love for the King, yet not so much for his bride."
Lythal stood and moved closer to the window, beyond which he could see torches moving around presumably being born aloft by angry mobs. Although a cloak covered much of his personage, the quick-eyed amongst the patrons might catch glimpses of tools and vials that would allude to the tall Elf's calling.
"Another goblet of wine, please," he said to the barkeep, turning from the window and taking an empty seat at the bar. "It would appear that my business shall have to wait until morning."

Vyshael nods and accepts the free drink eagerly... The man seems daft and oblivious, but his silvers spend well..
"I'm planning on enrolling in one of the magic schools around here if they'll have me... assuming they survive the night."
Vyshael winces slightly at the painful reminder and turns to the newcomer, "Unless you care more about politics than power, you're better off hoping that they do not. The Acadamae, at least."
"It seems something has riled up the populace, it seems there is much love for the King, yet not so much for his bride."
Vyshael nods. "Well, from the rumours, she cares naught for the people, and they're happy to reciprocate. Besides which, there are more than a few who believe that the old man was taken in by her, shall we say, charms?"
