As the title suggests, I am going to run a Curse of the Crimson Throne game - and it will be gritty. Korvosa will be darker and bloodier than ever before - if this does not appeal, you may want to stay clear.

What you should know before applying

First, download the Curse of the Crimson Thone Player's Guide if you haven't already - the information is necessary to understand the adventure and create an appropriate backstory for your character.

I am primarily looking for roleplaying, not rollplaying. I wish to explore a story, not mechanics. That said, this is an adventure path. Unoptimised characters will face difficulties, though min-maxing is also not necessary.

I will be changing elements to up the importance of the player characters - to what degree depends entirely on the players.

As with my previous topics, I also request that you have the time and dedication to post daily - even during weekends - preferably more. If real-life requires your attention, I ask that you inform me and the other players - the ability to communicate is key.

If possible, also tell me which timezone you are in, so I can adjust to posting habits as swiftly as possible.

Lastly, diversity is heavily encouraged, both in regards of class and race. Ultimately, though, you will be judged on character concept, roleplaying interaction and character chemistry.

As a warning: failure to roleplay here will automatically exclude you from the selection process.

Character creation
• Races: Standard races from the Core Rulebook only. Racial options from the APG will be allowed.
• Classes: All classes (Base and Prestige) from the Core Rulebook, APG and Ultimate Magic will be allowed. All archetypes will be allowed. Archetype stacking will be allowed - as long as the class features do not replace one another (as per the actual archetype rules).
• Favoured Class: The favoured class options from the Core Rulebook and APG will be acceptable. If the Magus receives some form of favoured class bonus in the near future, after the campaign has started, I will allow Magus players to retcon their favoured class bonus to this new class bonus if they so wish.
• Alignment: I will only allow Good and Neutral alignments.
• Ability Scores: Characters must be created with 20-point buy. No stat can be raised above 18 (prior to racial modifiers), and no stat can be lowered below 8 (prior to racial modifiers).
• Feats: Any feat from the Core Rulebook, APG, UM and ISWG will be allowed. Any other feat from Paizo-compatible systems must be approved by me.
• Traits: Characters will start with three traits. One of these traits MUST be a Curse of the Crimson Throne Campaign Trait.
• Hit Points: Characters will start out with Maximum hit points for their class at 1st level.
• Starting Gold: Characters will start with maximum gold for their class.
• The Words of Power system will be permitted for casters. For balance reasons, Borrow Future will not be an allowed Word Spell, unless it receives heavy errata.
• A note about Ultimate Combat: Since it will be released in the end of July (according to the Paizo site), I will most likely allow the book and its archetypes/feats when it is released. As such, if you desire to change your character come the book, I am likely to allow this.

How to apply
I require much from applicants. While I do not require a full character sheet, I do request that you give me your race, class, alignment, ability scores, saves, skills and traits. As such, a full sheet is recommended. If selected, a full sheet is required.

In addition: Please reply to the following questions. The plot hook for Curse of the Crimson Throne that brings you together is the desire to exert vengeance on Gaedren Lamm. Afterwards, interact with one another as patrons at the Leftover's, a tavern in the East Shore, when the palpable tension seems to reach a bloody peak...

1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
4. What will your character contribute to the group?
5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?

Role-playing introduction
Even the bard stopped playing. The ground is shaking, and in the silence you can hear the yells of a large crowd, some condemning the Royal Queen Ileosa, some proclaiming that King Eodred II has died. Insults and profanity paint the air. The drink feels stale and there's a telling feeling that tonight, blood will be shed. The barkeep has already barred the door - a wise choice, by the sound of the streets...

Patcher,

A question for you. I see your sources listed, but curious if you would allow the Sable Company Marine ranger archetype that was posted on Paizo Blog? Here is a link to the archtype. Or do you prefer the feat from the CotCT player's guide?

Auk,
1/2 orc paladin of Saranrae
Need to change some things, then ill post under the allias.

I was thinking that I'd like him to have a momento of his father, who was a Knight. The sword is not only a connection to his father but is an extension of his faith and in many ways his chance at redemption. Part of his background is that he is ashamed of his beastial heritage and has turned to the gods of good, particularly Saranrae for a chance at redemption. He sees within himself, especially when he gets angry, a dark blot on his soul he assumes comes from his orc heritage. The sword would even have a name. As such I was thinking Heirloom weapon, and was curious if I would still need to spend a feat to be able to use it one handed?

Since it is specifically designed for Korvosa, I would allow it.

Which weapon are we talking about? Also, were you considering the Heirloom weapon pre- or post-errata?

Dotting with an intent to put forward a Halfling Rogue with decent Cha skills when I finalise the fluff and crunch.

Will have been Widowed by Gaedren, and starts out with a death seeker outlook focused on revenge.

This is the character I would like to apply with. Just click the profile to see the character sheet.

This is all IC except for #5 obviously to show off the way his personality. Let me know if what you think. I can tone it down if you like.

1) He took my niece, Callista from me. She brought, I mean she brings out the best in me. Without her... I can't even think about that. Though when I come for him, he will wish that all I do is kill him.

2) I could care less about the business of the royals. They don't care when the common man needs them, like when it comes to tracking down that wretch, Gaedren.

3) I was a member of the guard for a reason, so yes I can. I can make life safe for the citizens by protecting them from criminals and low-lives.

4) I am tough and strong, with experience and training as a soldier. I also have tricks up my sleeve besides just hitting someone in the face.

5) I plan on being a pure fighter(2 handed archetype) with focus on combat manuevers as well as damage. My main focuses will be tripping and sundering.

6) I want Gaedram Lamm dead and for all his ilk to be gone from the city. No man or woman should lose their loved ones to unethical, ill-moral scum like I have.

7) I am the son of a common man and proud of it. I would hate to even think that I am related to these useless corrupt nobles. Ones that can't even wipe themselves without paid help.

Count me as interested! I missed my chance to play kingmaker with you. I will be submitting either a human bard(arcane duelist), alchemist, or summoner. Let me think about it some more and I'll post a complete application later.

I'd very much enjoy a gritty, urban game hosted by DM Patcher.

Patcher:

I remember you mentioning your location in another game. My best wishes of hope in these difficult times. I hope your loved ones are safe and keep their spirit.

About the game, I'm thinking of presenting an application, but would like to know if you're comfortable with it.

Of course you're welcome to apply! I have no enmity towards any of you from the former campaign - except Hu5tru for single-handedly making the previous campaign explode.

I humbly put forward a Halfling Rogue for consideration. Any and all comments welcomed.

Gethric Orted is a Chelaxian native who has landed in Korvosa with his wife after working his passage as a ship's cook. They settled into a studio in Midlands - West Dock and took up jobs in a nearby tavern kitchen. After eking out a living for a few months his wife Ravell was mugged and killed in daylight. This crushed Gethric's spirit and his heart now beats a cold rhythm towards vengeance.

I'm still finalising the background and appearance and will weigh into the RP intro once I'm happy with that.

Basic Crunch:
Halfling Rogue 1 (Archetype TBC) Alignment: LN
Str: 10, Dex: 17, Con: 12, Wis: 12, Int: 12, Cha: 16
Skills (8+1 Int+1 Fav Class): Acrobatics, Bluff, Diplomacy, Intimidate, Knowledge (Local), Perception, Profession (Cook), Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, Stealth
Feat: Weapon Finesse
Traits: Love-Lost (Widowed), Suspicious, Well Informed
Will be a knife nut, with a range of daggers, punching daggers, etc

Questions:

1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
”Gaedren took from me my heart and left it to bleed out upon the cobbles. My wife was left to die, killed for the few silver shields she had in her purse. That bastard even pawned off her wedding ring. When I catch up to him, he’ll go slowly… and in great pain.”

2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
”Feh, I’d wager that the city would be better off if they both disappeared. But something’s amiss with the way the new Queen rose to power from amidst the harem of whores. The king is at least only a rutting hog, but this Queen has a cold edge to her.”

3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
Scoffing ”Korvosa is sick to the core when honest folk are murdered and the Arbiters do nothing as they’ve been paid off in golden sails. Before the city can move on you need to cut out the corruption and return the rule of law absolute.”

4. What will your character contribute to the group?
The character has a local ear to the ground and a good skillset to assist with information gathering and social situations. In combat he will predominately be a flanking assistant, skirmish fighter.
I’m hanging out to see what is in UC before finalizing on whether I’ll take an Archetype. Specifically interested in the Knife Master and Roof Runner from UC, and the Rake from APG

5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
Class wise it will be full Rogue, skills will continue along the same path and the combat side will be bulked up to act in a de-buffing / damaging capacity.
Rogue talents will be equally split between the social side and combat.

6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
He will definitely start out as a death seeker, focused on seeking out Gaedren to revenge that which was taken from him. Once Gaedren is dead, then he has a possibility of being brought back into the light by his companions – or continue upon his path toward self-destruction.
Ideally we would be able to be turned back to the light by a fellow companion and grow into being a figure to admire, but he would likely need to be led upon that path by another and would not find it himself.

7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
As a ship delivered Halfling from Cheliax, he has zero chance of being of noble or royal blood.

I'm posting now to show interest, will edit post with required info soon when I get a character sheet done up. My idea is to be a Varisian Oracle Time Seer (clouded vision as her curse) and will you allow the Harrower class from the Inner Sea Guide?

After some thought, I'll be submitting an alchemist. It will be the first time I've ever played one and I'm looking into combining the Vivisectionist and Chirurgeon archetypes to make some sort of Sherlock Holmes potion drinking dirty-fighter/physician scientist/investigator type.

Texas Red

Crunch:

Human Alchemist 1 (Vivisectionist/Chirugeon Archetypes) Alignment: CN
Str: 18, Dex: 14, Con: 12, Wis: 10, Int: 14, Cha: 8
Skills (4+2int): Disable Device, Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (nature) , Profession(physician), Perception, Spellcraft, Use Magic Device.
Feat: Dodge, Arcane strike
Traits: Love-Lost (Orphaned),Dangerously Curious, Mathematical Prodigy (Arcana) or Child of the Streets (haven't decided)

Background:

Barrion Malloy is a red-haired physician-in-training hailing from Old Korvosa. After his mother passed away when he was young, he learned what it meant to grow up on the streets. The papers ran with it being an accident but it was never proven. Barrion has the proof Lamm did it. It's been safely kept in his heart for a decade now.

While on the streets, he grew up strong and smart. He had a great curiosity for experiments and actually caught the attention of a physician. He tried studying for a while to become a doctor, but Barrion's curious nature, lack of discipline, and love of street fighting meant he was to do something other than settle down and play doctor for some coin. He picked up the nickname "Texas Red" in the rings and it stuck. He's 24, has won over 20 fights when he was arrested. Mysteriously, he was set free with a note promising that he was free to take care of Lamm once and for all. That shouldn't be too hard. In fact, Texas realizes he should have taken care of it years ago instead of using the rage he feels as fuel.

Questions:

1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
Answered in backstory. He made him an orphan.

2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
Texas doesn't care about the royal tension.

3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
Yeah. Texas feels he needs to root out corruption if there is any hope of justice to be had in this city he calls home.

4. What will your character contribute to the group?
Melee support, a little bit of skills, and some utility in the form of potions.

5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
I'll probably go a level or so of barbarian and shoot for master chymist.

6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
He wants to track down Lamm and repay his debt to his mysterious get-out-of-jail-free-card having person. He'd also like to be someone. A legend. He has no idea what happened to his father.. he never met him and doesn't know if he is alive or dead.

7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?

Texas was of common stock but once he was an orphan that was like a whole other step down in status. He barely remembers what it was like to grow up in a home. He feels that was so long ago and that the streets, alleys, and small one room apartments are all he knows and remembers.

Posting interest to play a synthesist summoner. Will write something up and post soon.

Ed Gentry wrote:

I'll warn you right away that I am personally not fond of the synthesist archetype for summoners.

Dotting for interest.

What is the timeline for submission and how will the characters be chosen?

I'll close recruitment sometime this weekend - between Friday and Sunday.

I select characters based on concept and roles, and individual roleplaying performance here in this topic - after several disappointments, I want to see as much as possible of a player's style (with their particular character), so the effort you put in this roleplay is the biggest factor.

Quick question, I'm interested in playing a Varisian wizard that eventually takes on the Spherewalker Prestige class from RotRL, would you be ok with that?

Looking at the prestige class, I don't see anything broken about it, and the flavour is fantastic. I would allow it. The swarm of butterflies in particular.

Cool, I'll work on the character and post it soon.

DM Patcher, I was wondering what you thought of my character/concept. Is there something you would change/don't like? I ask because you did not comment on my original post.

Demitri Severin wrote:

Ah, I apologise for not replying - if anybody wants me to comment on concept, I will.

With a very minor (and unrelated) nitpick ("could care less" assume you care just a little (because you could care less), "couldn't care less" means you don't care at all - which is likely what you meant), I like the concept: hard-working proud soldier with contempt versus the nobility's silly game of thrones, essentially, yes? - which fits. I was planning on some political intrigue eventually, so a foil could make for interesting dynamics, but you will likely be involved with the noble houses and the royal court in Korvosa.

Ah yes, a typo. I meant that he doesn't care at all. If political intrigue is a part of the AP, he can go along with it. He definitely won't like it, but he will contribute as he can. Good to hear you like the concept, I thought maybe I went a little overboard in his attitude.

With how dark this campaign is going to be, I think a stalwart, strong attitude like that will be a good trait, rather than a flaw. The only risk is that it doesn't split the party - because I abhor intra-party conflict if it goes that far. That's what ruined my original CotCT game.

All that remains is for the roleplay to start.

Well, I will do my best to not antagonize the other PCs, but I may ruffle the feathers of the NPCs. What about the character mechanically? Any issues, since I saw you do not like synthesists?

Demitri Severin wrote:

I'll be honest, there are only two classes/archetypes that I personally am unable to get behind. The first one is the synthesist archetype - I think the mechanics are weird, and I don't...understand the fluff. I can't envision one.

Secondly is the druid class as a whole. I just dislike the fluff and mechanical restrictions, and similarly, I can't properly depict a stereotypical druid.

Other than that, I can get on board with mostly anything - and it's not that I won't accept a synthesist or a druid (I have accepted the latter), but I do base my choices on personal preference as well. A synthesist applicant, or a druid applicant must be outstanding to "be in the run" as it were.

I realise this may paint me as a bit of a buzzkill, and if it puts anybody off, I apologise.

Alright, I can understand that. I may disagree a bit, you have a right to feel that way. So you want us to RP as though we are in the Leftover's tavern?

Hello Dm Pratcher. I hope there is room for another App?
I am in GMT+8. US west coast and can easily post several times a day.

Traits
1. Unhappy childhood, tortured.
2. TBA Life on the streets related.
3. TBA Combat or social related.

Questions and answers:

1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life? "How did he ruin my life. He plucked me off the streets and systamatically brutalized me until I fought back. He then turned that anger against his 'lambs'. By the time I was twelve I could maim a boy five years my senior without ever touching a weapon. I finaly confronted Lamm after one too many days beating children and asked him why. Questioning Lamm was a cardinal sin. He tried to feed me to his pet. I was lucky. It was cold that day. The beast was slow. Istill have the scars though and I still see him in the shadows."

2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa? "I am a loyal supporter of the King. I think the Queen may be a bad influence but I am not in a position to gainsay his choice.

3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How? "Change it for the better? One man change a city? You have been reading too many romances my friend. Korvosa is. It is bigger that me than you, than waste like Lamm. It's even bigger than the king. It will outlive us all. Mind you, things could change. I don't really see why the Hell-knights need to be in the city. remove them and remove people like Lamm and the city would function better. So maybe I could change things, at least for a while."

4. What will your character contribute to the group? [b]"I am an agile and effective fighter. All the more so in places where weapons or armor would draw unwanted attention. I will be an effective flanking partner for any fighter types. More importantly I will be a voice of care and reason. I carefully consider options and look for connections that hotter heads may miss. I will stand between angry players working to focus disperate points of view into an organized whole."

5. What are your plans for your character mechanically? Plain monk. I will reserve the option of moving to one of the UC archtypes when it comes out.

6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective? Durant is looking for a home. He likes the city but as long as Lamm in in it he cannot relax. He is most at home on the shingles and would like to take part in the life of that unique district.

7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner? The only way Durant could be noble would be if Lamm kidnapped him at a very young age. Highly unlikely though. He would have ransomed me long ago.

Thank you for your consideration.

Demitri Severin wrote:

Oh, by all means. It's personal preference - one that'll affect the outcome of the selection process. Better that people know now than create characters that are very likely to not get picked.

And yes. As the opening post says, interact with one another as patrons at the Leftover's... the role-playing introduction is there to start things off.

@Durant: Hello! Of course there's room. Also, it's Patcher, not Pratcher D:

DM Patcher wrote:

D'oh. That's a good start, sorry.

At Leftover's

A shorthaired young man sets down his stout. He speeks quietly to the barkeep. "Good night to be behind oak. If the king has died, or enough people believe he has, there will be riots. The guard will have it's hands full."

To the rest of the bar a little louder. "Looks like some excitement outside. Best to let it blow over and see what truth there is to see. We should be safe enough here."

Durant wrote:

Demetri looks over at the naive fool who just shouted that out and replies with:"You think this will blow over? Nothing blows over unless people do something about it. And as usual, no one is gonna' do a damn thing." He turns to address the barkeep. "Another drink. Make it a double. It's gonna be a long day." He says as he pays for his drink(s) and continue sitting at the bar.

Just let me know what my tab is when it is over so I can deduct it properly.

This is roleplay only - no need to worry about in-game mechanics like cash or rolls. I wish to see the social chemistry the characters have.

@Patcher - You don't mind possibly having the same player in two different PbPs? If not, I'll make something up, I have a few ideas kicking around.

I don't mind at all - will be happy to see your application.

"It will blow over. People will scream, maybe some will bleed. The odd bit of looting and recreational arson, but people get tired and hungry, orders have to be filled, coin has to be made. It'll blow over."

"And you're alright with that? People get hurt, possibly killed while people do nothin' about it? You never thought about trying to change things? Make a difference in this wretched place, kid? The trouble might die down for a bit, but it's always there. It'll always be there." He replies as he gulps down his drink. He wipes his mouth afterward and turns his head to the one speaking to him. "Name's Demitri. Who in the nine hells are you?"

"Durant. Born and raised in this particular corner of hell Dimitri, and like you said trouble will always be there. But there are things to do around the edges, if you can find the right spots." Druant takes a drink. "So who are you, and what brings you to my local during this dustup?"

"I suppose so. Who am I? I'm just a guy who cares too much in a city where they really don't care at all. I came here for a drink and a place to rest for a bit. It's been a long day.." Demitri seems distracted by his thoughts as he says that last bit, but he shakes his head as if to break free of them. "So you say this is your stomping grounds? I've never heard of you."

This is the profile for Mark Sweetman's rogue, though have not filled it out in full yet.

At the end of the bar sitting alone on a raised stool is a halfling. His small hands nestle a glass of whiskey that he occasionally sips at between gazes into the distance. Next to him upon the bar top lies a tied up roll of leather that you notice a glint of steel shining out from within the roll. His clothes are plain browns and green, though cut more in the fashion of Cheliax than of Varisia.

At the sound of the burgeoning riot coming through the door, he briefly looks up - but noticing the door has been barred returns to his drink.

A pretty young, red-headed Varisian walks up to the bar next to the halfling and hails the barkeep.

"My thanks for barring the door sir. I'll have a fire-spiced rum."

She slaps a few coins down on the bar and turn to the halfling.

"So Dangerous. As long as we're trapped in here for a few hours if not the night. What's your story? Been in the city for long?"

DM Patcher:

I've added the questions into my profile. Thanks for the shot at another run.

Tired weary eyes survey the Varisian who just intruded upon his solace. "Have I a sign upon my back inviting your inquisition gypsy? or do you take some kind of pleasure in disrupting a man's solitude?" his gaze holds steady on the lady as he waits for her response.

"Sure pal, it says "kick me" too, but I decided to ignore that part. Look, if you don't want to talk, I'll take my drink and find someone who wants to talk. Looks like we're going to be stuck for a while, may as well have a chance to make a new acquaintance."

Grimacing slightly but nodding assent "Talk is fine, just not on the topic you first posed." Gethric moves his leather bundle to the opposite side of where the Varisian has placed herself. "I am Gethric"

I am just waiting to see if I get accepted into another game. If I don't get in that one I will be submitting Dim, a Gnome Cleric of Desna. A hopeless optimist in any situation. Have to get past all the doom and gloom that this games sounds like it will have, what better way than with a big grin!

"Fair enough rules Gethric. I am Chavakala. Since we won't speak of our pasts, let's speak of the present. I fear for this city. The riots and violence. I'm happy to see that the bartender has barred the door. I hope it will be enough."

Hey Patcher, don't mean to intrude, but wanted to ask a few questions regarding the campaign. I'm thinking about putting together a hellknight squire (from the Korvosa-based Order of the Nail), and wanted to know if that's a problem with the campaign or yourself (and other players, also).

The character in question is supposed to be a guilt-ridden "veteran" (as far as 1st level goes) of "civilization-inducing" crusades on barbarians just returning home and finding out his son has disappeared. He would probably be Lawful Neutral with a bent towards Good, but extremely relentless against perceived threats and enemies (not refusing to commit said evil acts to further his goals in these situations). Is that cool for you, or is it crossing the line? About the class, I'm between plain fighter, cleric or inquisitor (this class fits better, but I haven't seen it in play yet).

"Feh, fear not for the city. She's made of stone and the blood will wash away with the next rain. I'm sure the guard will be on top of it soon enough. I'm sure the mob will find easy enough prey outside without feeling the need to try and break in here." with that he raises his glass to Chavakala and drains it, grimacing as the fluid burns his throat and the aftertaste fills his mouth.

Indicating to the barkeep for a refill he also asks "And some lem and lemchum if you've got some"

Lem is a Korvosan delicacy - basically hummus and deep fried clam strips

A devil smiles through sharpened fangs in the breastplate of this slender man. A couple of forward-facing steel horns adorn his helm, but as he removes it, the plain and unremarkable face of a human man with black hair and close-cropped beard can be seen. He walks out of the back of the room, approaching the bar near Chavakala and the halfling. Reposing the helm between his left arm and his body, the man in the demon armor says, with a flat tone:

"I also fear for this city, for it has changed much in the last years. This anarchy that spreads to the city serves no one, but corrodes all it touches insidiously.

Not even the children are spared in this turmoil, and any hopes of a safer future will be damned if this chaos cannot be undone." As he talks he snarls, hints of some hidden anger breaking through his voice and being quickly smothered.

But fear not, my lady, for there still are those that seek to restablish control and law, and if that door doesn't hold I'll stand between you and the howling hordes outside.

One more drink, serving man, for it's sure to be a long night, and full of terrors."

Background:

As a small child Galdran was found by the Order of the Nail on the site of a killing spree. A murderer killed an entire family and was about to kill the small child, but was stopped in time by the hellknights. The boy was raised by the order with some interest (rumors abound that the murderer was actually a cleric of a good deity who accused the family of diabolism and ritual sacrifices), and raised quickly through their ranks. He absorbed the dogmas of the order, coming to really believe the goodness of bringing order and civilization to the wicked barbarians; his general strangeness and fanaticism made most aspirants leave him alone.

Strangely, there was one person who was unaffected by this. She grew herbs with her mother, and always sold them to the order for the brewing of healing potions. She talked with the boy while the goods were being delivered, and he found himself studying about distant lands and monsters so he could impress her. On his fifteenth year he proposed to her, and they married under the church of Abadar. He left her with a pronounced belly to join his first raid to "convert" shoanti barbarians, but he came back a changed man. Instead of civilization they brought slavery and fire, death and destruction. He never flinched even while commiting the most heinous acts, but his dreams were haunted by his guilt.

Long raids followed brief "vacations" where he could find solace in the hands of his wive and in play with his son. To any of his fellow hellknight aspirants, he seemed uncompromising and utterly amoral, and he fought well to hide his night terrors. The time where he believed in the goals of his order had come and gone, but ultimately he found some ground in the worshiping of Asmodeus, figuring a world where everyone had its rightful place under the Law would prevent many of the evils he himself had commited.

Only when returning from a particularly challenging raid (some shoanti deviants had been protected and hidden by farmers, and the burning and combing process of the farmlands had taken a while) he found himself in a changed world: the city was in full anarchy, and in the three months he had been away, his wife had become herself addicted to some drug. When he found her, she was whoring herself for drug money and had sold their son. Years of frustration and rage boiled his blood, and he hit her so hard she couldn't resist.

Then Galdran did what he did best: He swallowed his fury, letting it simmer down in a cold rage, and stablished himself a mission. He was to find the man who had hooked her wife on this drug and stolen his son. Then he would rescue the boy, and finally this Gaedren Lamm would suffer for his sins.

Character:

Human Inquisitor 1 LN (or cleric, depending on player/GM feedback and party needs), Law Domain

Abilities Str 17 (racial bonus), Dex 12, Con 12, Wis 15, Int 10, Cha 12.

[Saving Throws] Fort +3, Ref +1, Will +5

Trained Skills Diplomacy, Heal, Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Planes), Knowledge (Religion), Perception, Ride, Sense Motive

Traits Missing Child (daughter), Infernal Influence, Killer

Questions:

1. How did Gaedren Lamm ruin your life?
He has made my wife dependant on the shiver drug, and has taken my son as payment to supply her addictions. For that and many other sins, he shall be punished.
He has taken my only solace and haven in existance, and for that he will be utterly destroyed.

2. What do you think of the tension at the royal court between King Eodred II and the Royal Queen Ileosa?
It's an abomination threatening the rightful order of the kingdom, and this discrepancy is sending ripples all through the chain of command. Something needs to be done to ascertain the hierarchy runs smoothly, and fast.

3. Do you think you could change Korvosa for the better? How?
I'm only a lowly aspirant hellknight, but I believe everyone should have a rightful place in this kingdom. Knowing your place and dedicating yourself to it carries benefits for your entire community, hopefully to a point where a person such as myself won't be needed.

Although those are his views right now, he's yearning for a shot at redemption, and these could change drastically based on game experience.

4. What will your character contribute to the group?
Mechanicly, he would be a frontline fighter and buffer, and maybe a healer if that's needed. I would be willing to tailor his build to amend party weaknesses, so he would easily be a fighter or knight if the party lacks a tank, a cleric if heals are needed, or an inquisitor if they aren't (in which case he would provide a wide array of knowledges and skills, including tracking).

IC-wise he would offer reasonable advice and planning, and would be the person willing to do whatever the party isn't (like torture and intimidation).

5. What are your plans for your character mechanically?
As said above, he would fit whatever slot's needed (his background allows at least those three). If as fighter, he would probably take the Hellknight prestige class, if otherwise, single-class into cleric or inquisitor (heck, depending on character development I could even atone and become a paladin!).

6. What are your plans for your character from a story-perspective?
Developing a relationship with his son and the party (as part of what he feels he needs to do in order to "make up" for all the evil he has done), and coming to terms (or violently clashing) on his position on the hellknights and his wishes to see the world somehow improve.

This character could change a lot depending on further developments, or he could stay a irascible, determined man capable of anything to achieve his goals (which are strangely good-aligned).

7. Consider your character's heritage: could he (or she) possibly be of noble or royal blood, or is he (or she) a lowborn commoner?
The secret of his heritage is only known by the Paravicar Acillmar, who lead the attack and interrogation of the murderer of Galdran's family, and could mean anything the DM wishes (or just left unknown if it isn't relevant to you). Nevertheless, he has a brush with hell, having an almost supernatural aura of fear and intimidation around, even though he's plain-faced and simple.

Go for it.

@All: Keep in mind that if you feel that your personality conflicts heavily with that of another player, you may want to reconsider and tone down - not saying it's happened yet, nor do I want you to bend entirely to somebody else's character, but if you think you're overplaying it, then I won't judge you for changing.

Use this chance to experiment too, to get comfortable with the boundries and personality of your character if he or she is new, for instance.

was halplm above, now I'm Jel Camo, wandering Varisian just come back to the city. I've got my character sheet mostly worked out, but I'm a bit too tired to get it posted tonight, will do first thing tomorrow.

A young, not-so-pretty, Varisian approaches the bar from a dark corner he had been occupying. "Hello, Hello! I must say, I did not expect this kind of excitement my first day back in the city. I didn't think this place could be WORSE than I remembered it." His friendly smile seems oddly out of place on his dark, weathered face.

"Name's Jel." He leans in close to Chavakala and winks boldly. "And I don't mind talking about my past."

Hey Patcher, you seem to have missed my question, are you ok with the Harrower Prestige class from the Inner Sea Guide?
