I know the feeling. my CotCT game almost ended because for some reason followers of Calistria were kinda dickish. Basically one was a real pain because she bent the rules with interpretation and then a inquisitor of Calistria was doing something evil which was pumping cause light wounds into poor Trinia Sobor when she was under the effect of hidious laughter.

The second one was the worst and makes me tentitive to be across anyone who's plays a woreshipper of Calistria.

I will be mostly off line between Saturday 1800 EDT and Tuesday 0900 EDT, for various reasons. I will try to sneak a post in, but it may not happen.

Bot me if necessary. Abbas wants to try and track the pugwampis, if tracks can be found. If no tracks then try to track and return the goat to help the two camel drivers.

To make combat flow smoother, I wish to run combat this way, from hereon out:

Quote:
Thirdly, whenever combat occurs, I will roll your initiatives, calculate the average of your values, and compare it to the enemies' initiative. Because PbP combat easily gets confusing, there won't be individual turns. Instead, you act on a group initiative, and when you post, you act (with "I wait for X to do his/her move before I do Y" if necessary for your actions to make sense). When all five of you have done your actions, the enemy acts as a group, round over, new round. Does this make sense?

Sounds foncusing with calculating average values...try it like this in my PBP and other's do. Here's a example of the last battle we just had:

iniative:

Curnach Daveck: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Jerinthian Kos: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Arianna Rothschild: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Krenn Whetstone: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Queen's Physicians: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Clerics of Urgathoa: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5

Rolth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

Round 1

Jerinthian Kos
Arianna Rothschild
Curnach Daveck
Queen's Physicians
Rolth
Clerics of Urgathoa
Krenn Whetstone

So there, everyone knows who to wait for and the DM is reminded when the NPCs go and when the PCs go, especially as I have the NPCs below the four PCs at the top there. I also then put the map right under that in the first post just so that everyone knows where everyone is and can plan out their actions with ease and accuracy.

Just a suggestion and I got this technique off other DMs who do this. It streamlines everything and I even keep a notepad of the group's most recent iniative so I just copy and paste it into the fourms (with the [dice] code of course)which is another time saving trick ;)

That's what I used to do - but having to wait for everybody to post in order takes too long for my tastes. Also, having to deal with a bunch of actions that are not in order presents its own problems; say player A decides to "attack enemy Z." Player B acts before player A and gets a critical strike, killing enemy Z - then we have to wait for Player A to redo his action.

It's too time-consuming for my tastes.

It's been two and three days since the last post - did something happen that I'm unaware of? Abbas already elaborated why he wouldn't post, so he's fine.

I think the problem is that only Abbas and Durant can read the spoiler, Abbas' player is away, and Durant already stated he had climbed down the ravine. The rest of us are playing with Llathander's bum.

Which nobody wants (or needs) to role-play out.

Fair enough. I'll force it along then, so we don't come to a standstill.

Hm?

If it's me it's just that I'm struggling to catch on what's happening and I find myself unable to say something in character.

Anything I can do to help? Sometimes it is best just to say something even if it is just to remind everyone that you are glowering menacingly.

What can I do to make it less confusing, Bahram?

I have a favour to ask of you all.

In situations, such as the one Bahram mentioned, where you have difficulties acting in-character, I ask that you post something - anything - to show me that you are there. I dislike seeing several days with no posts from somebody, and it makes me think that I am doing a poor job in some way or the other.

More importantly, if you are having problems following the plot or acting in-character, I need to know this, and I need to know how to fix it. Please communicate with me, and with us all, so I can improve the experience for you.

DM Patcher || Sceptre of Flame wrote:

Mostly it's that I find several people have posted in a short amount of time and playing a silent protagonist doesn't give me must to say. I'll see what I've missed.

I have to ask that you read closer as well. I stated several times OOC that this fight would have no map. Durant already grappled the beast and called out to not attack. I'm getting worried - and slightly irritated.

Hi all,

I have thought hard about options since yesterday morning, and I am sorry to do this, but I have to drop out of this pbp.

As a retired person, I have been working part time at something that I love doing, keeps me busy and out of the house one day a week.

At the staff meeting yesterday, the boss told us that the job is changing dramatically over the next month, for the better let me add.

However, this means at least tripling my time commitment to the job, so something has to give and this is it. Better now at the start then when we are hip deep into something in a month or so.

Again, sorry, and Good Luck and Good Gaming.

I'm sorry to hear this. I wish you the best of luck with the job.

With this, I'm not sure what I wish to do - I've had some doubts lately, admittedly, about the future of this LoF game. I need to think.

I was afraid of this.

It is your call but I want you to know that I am dedicated to this game. There have been some problems but I think they are working out.
To be very blunt, Gilfroy has become less kenderlike and it looks like Bahram is starting to post more. That said it is summertime for most of the folks on the board so posting will occasionally be spotty and attention occasionally divided. This can be combated however if everyone agrees that this is a shared experience and we all have a part to play.

I recommend either inviting the 2 best players from the crashed LOF or opening up a connection thread with very clear and stringent requirements. I can help with this if you like. I can be the bad guy if you need someone to say no. There are a great number of good players out there. A DM can afford to be very picky.

I apologise if I offended anyone. I tend to get bossy when I fear something I like is being taken away. I am enjoying all the characters and I think if we who are left bring a little bit more to the table we can make this a campaign to remember.

That's my thought anyway.

If it helps things move more smoothly, I have no problem bowing out also.

It has nothing to do with how the game is going...it's just that deserts have never been my idea of a fantasy adventure for some reason. I knew coming in what LoF was about, of course, and thought I'd give it a try.

I also don't mind hanging around, but if you have a few players from the other game you want to bring in, I don't object to being bumped. Some incarnation of Gilfroy has a date with the Crown of the World (Jade Regent) anyways

Hey I like the fish out of water vibe you have going. You were a tad over the top at the beginning but you are making it work now. The guidence on the but thing was comedy gold. It was useful and funny and in character, perfect.

Vigoda or Lincoln? Has the jury reached a verdict?

I have.

I am going to end this campaign. I'm not content with it as a whole: how I've run it; the pace that it slowed down to. My motivation is also very lacking, as you may have noticed. I think it would be better to end it now than try to keep it going.

For this, I apologise.

I thank you all for participating and for giving me valuable experience with PbPs, and I wish you all good luck in the future.

Well, rats.

What is, is I suppose. Thanks for the run Pratcher. Maybe next time.

Thanks for the game everyone.

was fun with you guys and you were all great. I'm advertising a kingmaker for those without a game if anyone's interested.
