Good morning, everyone. No new news on the surgery front. Using a tablet right now, so I may not post as often today.

Of course I'm undressed, still in the hospital.

Why i don't worry about point buy or adjusting monsters.

Five characters last night, which included the following.

A Gillman avenger Vigilante with gunsmithing as his feat, no gun, but had a tiny, tiny dagger (and apparently a battle axe he didn't use until the last fight).

A kitsune ninja with weapon finesse (But only uses a katana) and still has yet to even think of using sneak attack and has already dropped over a hundred gold on various animals from Ultimate Equipment.

A druid so dependent on his velociraptor he has yet to even learn or care about his spells or what weapons he might have.

A Shaman with a tenuous grasp of how 15 foot cones work.

A surprisingly competent magus.

Maybe if you put some pants on they wouldn't be so scared/distracted and they'd be able to give you some news.

But seriously, positive vibes.

Hey, wait a minute...That's not a Frank Drebbin line. That's from Dr. Rumack from Airplane! That's a completely different character played by the same actor. Get your shit together, man!

I was waiting for someone to say something. :-D

Keeping my shit together isn't really my thing. :-)

IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!

As in, I'm making PB&J for breakfast. Although I'm low on PB, so I may have to switch to something else to finish.

Well, today's Crimson Throne game should be... interesting.

They have 6 PCs instead of 4, and for a while they were so ineffective even with 6 that I felt bad giving the bad guys max HP, much less anything actually, y'know, effective.

But the last few sessions has seen an evolution in play from my group, and they're using effective tactics and eliminating enemies with some ease. Which has led them to be... confident. Some would say "cocksure".

Today they face Nihil the Ashbringer with all her minions intact, and no intelligence-gathering at all on the part of the party. I suspect it's going to be, "We smash the locked door down. Oh. Ow."

I look forward to see how the party responds to an actual challenge. Hopefully I won't TPK them.

(And I'm only posting this in the hopes that lisamarlene has already left her house and headed this way.)

Meh. I thought First Contact will be available for download tomorrow, not two weeks after the Free RPG day... :/

I think the agreement with Free RPG Day is that the product is exclusive for that time period.

It's five bucks an hour. Only nickels.

There's a beer wagon right in the middle of the farm. There were quite a few people already drinking during the marriage ceremony. The reception is in fact in a barn.

The best part, it's a professional marriage farm ($4,500 minimum, if you bring your own tentist) it's not even their own farm.

The non alcoholic drinks are in a trough.

Is it over yet...

Damn it!

I've already had at least half dozen people ask me why I'm not drinking.

When they say "Dom't go swimming in a beach in San Francisco", don't do it. They aren't saying that just to boss you around or kill your fun. They are saying that because the bayside has too many vessels, and the riptide off the Pacific side has a pretty good chance of killing you.

Complimentary wine on the table Decopas Malbec 2014.

I have no idea if it's any good. I'm guessing not.

there's a trough of coke? Are there cans to choose from or do you just shove your face into the murky darkness of cola and guzzle?

indeed, I have heard this is why no-one in San Fran knows how to swim and why death scenes in movies filmed there where the car or person is pushed into the water are so realistic.

A sort of eventful Saturday.

I:

1) Did a thing that has always been Banned on FaWtL, and is now also completely forbidden on paizo.com as a whole
2) Practiced rapier
3) Painted some pots
4) Cut my leg open by accident with a kukri (nothing remotely serious)
5) Went to see a friend (who I shared a house with when I was at music college) DJ, and ended up drinking lots of tiny cans of pricey beer and not doing very much groovin'
6) Just managed to catch a train filled with red-faced bald men and women covered in fake tan wearing dresses that were really too small for them.
7) Burnt a sausage.

Honestly, it's more about access to public pools than anything else. Where schools have pools, swimming is considered a basic skill that students are usually required to learn, and I remember my mother used the apartment complex's pool to teach me when I was little (so, by the time I was required to learn in school, I was already proficient). That was in San Jose, though, where cheap apartment complexes often (not always) have pools and schools usually do. I've noticed pool apartment complexes aren't really a thing here in San Francisco that much, and I bet most schools don't have space for a pool. So, where do the kids learn, especially low income kids who are much less likely to have access?

You can segue this into why it was so common for sailors not to know how to swim prior to the 1950s. Your basic enlisted recruit base couldn't afford access to a pool because they weren't really a common thing before the 50s, and if the ship sinks you better be in a boat or life jacket, so why waste precious training time on swimming when you have a war to fight? Nowadays, most recruits can swim, and there's time to teach those who can't (though modern US Navy swimming training is really just "How not to drown if you fall in the ocean 101"), so it's become an expectation.

I had to leave. There are only so many gnats a man can stand trying to nest in the antibiotic ointment above his eye.

I'll have to go back for the wife and kids later, after the gnats are festering on the drunks.

It was in cans. Though it's a farm, so who knows where it was before.

The youngish minister worked in how their marriage was strengthening America an amazing three times.

Also you can tell how much someone paid for their wedding by how ungodly long the ceremony is, by how many people speak, and by how many props they use (in this case what i could only assume (the mic didn't work, if they ever do) was a puppet show with a jar of rocks and a jar of sand about America, and marriage, or possibly time).

2 people marked this as a favorite.

If I ever get married, I want a puppet show.

And sword fights.

And blackjack

And hookers.

Although my prospective wife may feel differently about one or more of the above.

Hey NobodysHome, JohnNapier 698.

You know what will gain you much renown in your field?

Finding a way to make Mechcommander 1, 2 and Mechwarrior 4 work in Windows 10.

Ditto for other, older windows games that were made to work with older versions of windows that will not work in 10 because it will either not recognize them or some other nonsense.

While yes, I have a vested interest in seeing this happen, there are a lot of frustrated people out there who have games and other software they paid for that they cannot use because Microsoft is being a combination of stupid and a product of the time period they created their software in.

Freehold, only so much can be done without a game's source code. Yes, you can run the games under a debugger, but that only tells you where the errors are. And, without the source code, all you get from the debugger is Assembly Language. And, without the source, you can't rebuild the games at all.

sounds like you guys have a lot of work ahead of you!

cracks whip

GET TO WORK

Adding Rome Total War to the list.

To be fair to you both, this may be an issue with Windows making a critical error in not updating a type of disc protection with this latest version of Windows. They may, or may not, be working to fix this, as it may be an oversight on their part.

I'm sure Microsoft will get right on it.

The kids go to their dad's tomorrow, so they and my wife threw me my first step-father's day. Biscuits & gravy for breakfast, a gift clock painted by the kids, an introduction to ttrpgs for one of them in the afternoon, and steak & double-baked potatoes for dinner.

Best. Day. Ever. And I never expected to be even a part-time step-father. :)

Where did ya come from Cotton Eye Joe

Is it bad that I didn't need to google that?
