I've been watching a lot of history lately, and Joe Rogan the comedian has really helped me put dates and timeframes in an understandable context. I wish I could find the clip of this bit of his, because in it he's talking about the U.S. founders and how they lives 300 years ago. That seems like a long time, but Rogan pointed out that people can live for a century so really George Washington was only three people ago!

Ever since seeing that bit, history has been so much more relatable. Oh, the first empire the world ever knew began in ~2,300 BCE? Well let's see, that's 4,300 years ago...that's only 43 people ago!

Er, I probably shouldn't tell you how much the 900s sucked.

I went to the theater to see Alita : Battle Angel today and I enjoyed it. It was a good adaptation of the manga and the respect and love for that manga showed it the movie. Is it perfect? No. But it is enjoyable and they really tried to get the feel for the manga. I will be seeing it again in the theater and buying the DVD when it comes out.
