NO in Japanese. Like I said, I've seen it everywhere: in names like Abe no Seimei and in phrases like mono no aware and kaze no stigma (obviously the last from English). So, it's a possessive, usually?
Often it is. But Japanese has LOTS of homonyms, so it won't always be.
In proper names, for example, "no" is represented by the character 野 means "field" (though this would usually be written in romaji as part of the same word, not a new one, such as Tsukino, Hino, Aino. The small town where I lived in Japan was Mino - three fields).
Some dialects use 'no' at the end of a sentence to indicate that it's a question, instead of the usual 'ka'. When it's a particle between two other words, though, you can usually count on it being equivalent to the possessive.
You can even use it without a possessed thing after it to indicate possession:
Watashi no!

Howdy folks. Me and the family are safe and sound at the in-laws house. I'm a little tired, but the plane ride was really not that bad. The boy slept pretty much the entire flight! Didn't fuss at all.
Tomorrow, he gets introduced to more family, and dad gets to enjoy some boiled crawfish.
Good to hear!

OK, so I agree with everyone. That is just freakin' cool!
Now all we need is a way to remove Threads from our Focus so we never have to see them again after we've taken a peek and shaken our heads at the idiocy contained within... :)
