Afternoon,
I received notification that my order had arrived in the UK, but unfortunately Royal Mail were unable to deliver it due to requiring a Customs charge of £12.83.
I have since paid this and collected the parcel to ensure that it was from yourselves and was wondering if there was anything that could be done to try and cover this unexpected additional cost as am unsure of the process involved here.
The sticker which details the charge reads as follows:
Date: 13/01/2010
Charge No.: ZA002087058GB
Customs/Postal Charges...
VAT £4.83
Royal Mail International Handling Fee £8.00
Total £12.83
I do have the receipt for this fee paid available to send via email if needs be.
Best Regards,
Luke

Note: International shipments are not trackable and do not have guaranteed transit times. Any applicable customs charges are the responsibility of the recipient.
Customs fees are not charged until the item arrives at its destination. The variations between different countries' customs fees/charges are often quite extreme and each different country can have a large range of potential fees/charges. Paizo is unable to calculate, charge for or otherwise compensate for any applicable custom's charges.
Thanks,
Sara Marie

Unfortunately Custom Charges are a responsibility for the customer. This applies not only to Paizo - it applies in general if you buy outside the European Union.
Here is how it works:
Below £18 value of the items no charges are applied
Once you are above £18 you are liable to VAT for the items AND for postage. To make it worse - the handling fee for small purchases just above the limit really hurt.
I therefore try to either stay below £18 for a single shipment - or I order a huge order. For my 1:1 adventure compilation I went for a non-mint copy - not to save $6.50 with Paizo but to safe the £8.00 plus VAT.
There are people claiming they got 'lucky'. I can't confirm this - with big orders I ALWAYS had to pay. And as my stuff comes via Parcel-Force the fee is £13.50. And as I said above - I avoid to order any packet in the £17-£100 range.
As I said - this is general for all imports. It applies to E-Bay, Paizo Dwarvenforge (where I tend to buy) or anybody else.
Some sellers (especially E-Bay) do print lower values on the items or declare them as gifts. Gifts are free up to £36 and you don't pay for the postage. But it's illegal to declare items wrongly and you are even liable as a buyer if this happens.
Yes - Taxes and Fees can take a way a lot of the fun from importing from the US.
