How are things coming along? Hope doing this hasn't drained you too much. It looks like you've been putting in quite a bit of work so far.
Things are going OK - Thanks for asking! Here is the latest. I've also updated the files up through "The Prison" (basically page 1 of this thread). Most are contained in the "demonwing" chapter below.
Recently updated (Jan 29, 2011) -> Chapter 2: Demonwing [18.32MB]
I keep hacking away at The Temple. It's been helpful to re-write and re-twist the preceding story as I prepare the ending though.
As always - I recommend right-click and "Save Link As" to download and Foxit to view the file.
BTW: I'm good for Paizocon again so I'll put up a sign up post in the proper forum soon for any who feel especially masochistic.
Thanks for staying interested in this stuff KV!

I'm have purposefully not looked at your conversions just in case you were going to run it at PaizoCon again. Last year was a lot of fun :)

Looking forward to it Eric. Bring your lucky dice. ;^)

Recently updated (Feb 05, 2011) -> Chapter 2: Demonwing [25.75MB]
Finished up Demonwing; Also updated all of the links on the first page of this thread (for smaller, bite size pieces as it were).
I toned down a few encounters - I may take another shot at the DCs for traps and the like before I'm done (some are looking too high).
The Glass Room is pretty deadly, but the PCs should have a host of friends and the summoned creatures are easily dealt with if they are recognized as such. Even with all of that, I really need to play test this encounter.
Again, a couple of suggestions for reading: Right-click the link and choose "save as" or use Internet Download Manager. Use Foxit free PDF reader to read the file.
Cheers,

Hey daemonslye
Are you planning on creating a single PDF once you are finished ?
Your work is amazing but I got tell you man you lost me with all your updates
Here is a link to a single file. At this time, I only have the first three chapters in there. Adding the next chapter should be pretty quick work. I am still working on the Temple chapter.
Recently added (Feb 06, 2011) -> A Paladin in Hell [35.82MB]

Recently added (Feb 13, 2011) -> Riven [8.42MB]
Note: This update only contains Level 1. Levels 2-4 to follow.
I've just changed the name from Coldsteel. I'll also have updated some of the other files previously uploaded. I'll wait to do a final QA once I have everything in one file. In the meantime, if you see something amiss, let me know.

Completed Riven and working on the Temple.
Recently added (Feb 19, 2011) -> A Paladin in Hell [56.26MB]
Here is just the updated chapter -> Riven [21.67MB]
I also updated the content in the beginning of the thread pointing to Coldsteel.
As always, a couple of suggestions for reading: Right-click the link and choose "save as" or use Internet Download Manager. Use Foxit free PDF reader to read the file (looks better than Adobe; Faster too).

Did you add the reference to Phoebus or was that already in the 2e modules? (Phoebus is an NPC from the 1E Rogues gallery, though he is a plain fighter there...)
Also nice formatting and art, looks veeerry professional. What tools did you use to create the pdfs?

daemonslye |

AH, finally. My group made characters lastnight and will start this next weekend! =) I have a large gaming group (8 players) and they are making Gestalt Pathfinder PC's - with that in mind what Level should they be? Still 16th? Or perhaps 14 or 12th?
You may want to go lower level. I'd say it depends on how your group plays - 8 characters player-created? gestalt? Yeah maybe 12th or 13th. This is assuming they plan on maxing their saves and load up with buff magics (heroism, a bard int he group, etc.).
Let me know how it goes. I've got the first part of the Temple done which I may post later today.

The 2E adventure gave a set amount of XP for starting characters to have (I think it was2,25 million). Those XP were equivalent to a 16th wizard or 17th level fighter, a rogue would be 20th level.

Guilty as charged. I loved that picture and it opened up new avenues of thinking in terms of how creative you could be with a PC.
Thanks for the comments! I use MS Publisher 2010. Just choose "save as" and set to "commercial" fixed all the jaggies I was getting before.

Hi,
Can I just say that this conversion is incredibly well done and very professionally laid out! Having attempted a few conversions myself, I have to say I am impressed!
Have you managed to finish the Temple chapter yet? Very keen on seeing this as I am hoping to run this adventure very soon! I ran the original adventure with this same group of friends when it was first released, and I haven't gamed with them for years, so it should be quite the nostalgia trip!
Thanks for all you hard work!

Hey, Thanks for the feedback! I have been working the Temple for a while. I think I've knocked down most of the complications (how to get the Temple back, restoration and corruption, etc.). I'll post the first third of it tonight. The map was particularly difficult to sort out.
Cheers,
~D

daemonslye |

Can't wait D, look forward to seeing what you have cooked up, as I was wondering what to do with the point system for returning the temple to the prime material plane!Cheers
OK, well since you asked, here is where I'm at on the Temple. I need to update a few previous sections given a couple of changes (continuity). I'm also not sure I'm satisfied with the Wailing Prison (the flavor is right, maybe it's just the layout).
I tried to keep the concept around restoration points whole (although I question the need to calculate XP - it has a great "1st edition" feel but could be troublesome). I modified the numbers to ensure some time adventuring before the major phases are hit. Also, the PCs will likely start "in the hole" as there is no good/easy way of disabling the statues.
I spent a fair bit of time cleaning up the map and even provided a "side-view". The original map always confounded GMs trying to run the Temple (it certainly did me).
I should make it through a few more rooms this weekend. If I do, I'll update the file.
Recently added (Mar 04, 2011) -> The Temple Besieged [5.55MB]
Enjoy!
~D

daemonslye |

Thanks for the kind words!
I updated the file in the link above adding three additional rooms. I'm getting a little concerned with the power level. I may have a chance to test out this weekend with my players.
Without rest, even a 18th level group might find some of the encounters draining depending on their magic-stuff level. It's always hard to hit the right point at higher levels, but I'm leaning on "make harder" for now. I'm already thinking that two pit fiends in Area 10 is not going to work.
I have also been trying to sneak some role playing in as well - The fights are tough enough with out some respite.
Zerzix, let me know how the play test goes on your side.
Also, it looks like I'm confirmed for Paizocon. I'll put up a thread soon for potential players.
Cheers,
~D

Once you fully finish this conversion I intend to create a campaign just for this. I have four regular players, we are all Pathfinder nerds, and between the five of us we have something like 120+ years of combined gaming history.
I will gladly post feedback and whatnot if you are interested. I wish I had disposable income, I would totally buy you something if I could; as it stands now with this economy its all I can do to afford my own gaming fix.

daemonslye |

just a note.
You've done a great job so far but...
Emrikol, unless you are house rulling it, can not have spell perfection twice. as the feat does not state you can take it multiple times, you can only take the feat once.
Hey - Thanks! Any quality assurance help I can get is much appreciated. I will fix it in the next update.
~D

Jeffrey Swank Contributor |

Hey! Emrikol is chaotic! Can't he go against the rules and take it twice? lol
Last few sessions were the "meeting" of the party and backstory with Syrius. Kinda a flashback roleplaying quest with Syrius arriving just in time to save the day and introduce him as a contact to the party.
This sunday they will travel to attend a funeral...and meet Emrikol (hahHAHAhaha *evil laugh*) =)

Great work! When I looked at the files I was expecting notes on updates but not the layout you have given it.
I've played this module many times with ad hoc updates. That's been getting harder and harder to do with the old modules because of all the new options like feats and changes to the monsters, etc. I'll be playing your version soon.

Again GREAT WORK that you have been doing on updating this!:) So, with PaizoCon coming up are you planning on running the whole thing there? Would LOVE to see the finished version before but, would hate to ruin it before hand. YES, 2 Pit Fiends in area 10 would REALLY be a tough one! One Pit Fiend and 2 lower level creatures would work alot better. Anyway's can't wait to see the finished project!:)

Yeah. Been waiting for Paizocon to update the final. I am thinking of starting at the Temple rather than continuing through Demonwing, although I want to see who is playing first.
If you're there and want to join in a game, let me know. I updated the thread from last year in the Paizocon forum.
Hoping to see some of last years players re-join.

Unfortunately for me, some family obligations have come up and I can't make PaizoCon this year. For anyone considering playing with Daemonslye here, just do it! Last year was a blast and I'm sure this year will be more of the same.

We'll miss your Eric! Thanks for the plug. If I don't get too many takers, I may just put up a sign, I have a few players already coming with me so it should be cool.
Hope all is well and hope we see you in 2012 (assuming the world doesn't end by being pulled into the seventh plane of Hell and all).
I'll try to get you an advance copy of the final if I have it done before the Con so you can see what evil lies in store..

Silke |

Firstly awesome work – I want to see it completed so I can run it for my Pathfinder players.
It is indeed a draft filled with grammatical errors (many no doubt from past OCR). A pet peeve – the blue ‘read to player’ descriptions are not selectable as text. They seem to be images rather than OCR.
An encounter chart would be awesome for summarising what creatures are in the module, how many and where, along with CR and the base number of suggested WotC miniatures. This is a great aid to DM preparation.
Below is what I picked up with just a focus on pages 1-11.
Page 4
The text mentions that “The PCs will be able to test their skills, as a group, against a small force of extraplanar assailants meant to clean up any witnesses to the Temple’s theft.” and yet there is no such encounter described on pages 5-6. Suggest this sentence is removed.
Page 5
Add ‘be’ to “Given the level of the adventure, high level magic will available to the PCs.”
Strike out ‘area the’ from “These effects will work normally unless the area the PCs are in an area that restricts them in some way. “
Add a pagebreak, moving “Beginning the Adventure EL18” to start on page 6
Page 6
Put “Message for you master” in italics and red text, as per your formatting standard.
Page 8
Add ‘r’ to ‘whiling’ in “Point Harrow was engulfed in a sphere of whiling metal known now as the Metalstorm.”
To speed in-game play, consider hyperlinking spells to Pathfinder SRD. For example “refuge” would be hyperlinked to http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/r/refuge
Page 9
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -
Given “The clanging and ringing sound caused by the shards' crashing and scraping can be heard for 20 miles.” those standing next to or within the Metalstorm would be deafened. Personally I think it’s exceedingly appropriate to add this condition to the encounter for the entire island (excluding underground and inside the ‘calm’ of the Metalstorm – so the PCs can talk to the Magic Starved).
Hyperlink http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/conditions#TOC-Deafened
Deafened: A deafened character cannot hear. He takes a –4 penalty on initiative checks, automatically fails Perception checks based on sound, takes a –4 penalty on opposed Perception checks, and has a 20% chance of spell failure when casting spells with verbal components.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------- -
Suggest using Pathfinder convention for feet thus ‘20ft’ would be written as ‘20 ft.’ with a space and a period.
The text and picture indicate that “The Metal-storm's dangerous area is only about 300 yards thick” yet the ‘Metalstorm CR14’ sidebar jarringly conflicts with this, calling it ‘900ft’. Suggest the side bar is changed to 300 ft.
Note that Antimagic Field is a 10-ft.-radius emanation so it would be better to replace “Thus, a small area of anti-magic (less than a few hundred feet wide) will have no effect on the momentum of the metal of the storm.“ with “Thus, an Antimagic Field will have no effect on the metal’s momentum within the storm.”
Replace “The Metalstorm is 900ft thick, so a daring spellcaster, stand-ing outside the storm, at its exact center, could pass beyond it by using a dimension door to move straight through it (assuming the caster is 13th level or higher).” with “The Metalstorm is only 300 ft. thick, so a daring spellcaster could move straight through it by casting dimension door to bypass the barrier.”
Replace ‘simple’ with ‘simply’ in “A clairvoyance spell that does not pass beyond the storm will simple see flashing shards of deadly metal.”
Page 10
Suggest swapping ‘The Reality Rents’ sidebar from left-hand side of page to right-hand side.
Replace ‘detect’ with ‘see’ in “A trueseeing or detect invisible spell”
Replace ‘the’ with ‘they’ in “assuming the are not using magic”
Correct tab spacing for “96-00 Nirvana“
Add ‘to’ to “Somewhat similar the effect of a bag of holding which is placed in a portable hole;“
Page 11
Add ‘is’ to “They know of the steeds ahead and note that there a “castle” toward the sea.”
Page 16
The Magic Starved - ideally this page is moved to before 'Steeds of Chaos' on page 11
Page 62
Move ‘Symbol of Summoning’ sidebar from top left-hand corner of page to bottom left-hand corner.
Page 74
‘tor’ is probably supposed to be ‘tower’ in “Kroth’s lair lies at the bottom of the pool at the base of the tor.”

daemonslye |

Thanks Silke for the QA. As you can tell, much needed. I have a long list of bugs - make sure to use the latest document (Feb 19 link above) and the latest Temple link is the March 04 link.
The whole thing needs some serious care to get it into game ready status so I'll focus on doing that before starting another project.
I am interested in working in a "twist" at the end - possibly having to do with Emirikol. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I'll make an update this next weekend when I'm back in town.
On the topic of next project - Give me some ideas/votes.
Cheers,
~D

My future conversion suggestions/wants:
- H series You mentioned before something about condensing this series into one adventure and cutting out some of the more difficult to convert plot points - yes please!
A series The slavelords series was always a good time when I ran it, and this one is a low to mid level adventure which may make it a bit easier to convert.
Rod of Seven Parts I bought this right before finding out about 3rd edition and never wound up running it, but as a Pathfinder conversion I'd be all over it.
Night Below Another difficult to convert, huge campaign adventure that I would love to run in Pathfinder.

[/list]
I second either of these two. For what that is worth.

Bill Mead |
My vote is for the H series or the Rod of Seven Parts, that would be a little different. Another great one that does not work as a direct conversion is Dragon Mountain. That one would definitely need something else done to it for the third book.
While the Night Below would be a great conversion, it already exists as a 3.5, as does the A series. It would not take much to continue rolling those into a Pathfinder version. Anywho, they are readily available as text documents on Enworld.

DeathBecomesus |
Labyrinth of Madness would be awesomesauce converted.
This was the last 2nd edition adventure I bought and never got to run it!
With the advent of the Internet I managed to download the errata for it too which cleared up some confusion with the beginning room!:/ [\\\\\I think I Voted for H series some time ago.
But seeing the topic seems to have come up again, I will re submit my vote. H Bloodstone series!!/QUOTE]
daemonslye:
What you have done with A paladin in Hell is fantastic!
Worthy of being professionally published, thanks for sharing this with everyone.I would LOVE to see your reworked, revision of the H series.

Osmos777 |

First, I wanted to thank you for some truly awesome work! And while I certainly would have no problem with H (Bloodstone) series being next; I would cast my vote for first the A (Slavers)series and then the GDQ (Giants, Drow, Lolth) series. No matter what it is, I know it will be excellent and will torment, uh I mean challenge, my players ummensely.

Dr. Johnny Fever |
I was wondering if there had been any progress on this conversion? The last version I have (from Feb 2011) ends at room 11 in the chapter 'The Temple Besieged'....anyone know if there is a newer version? This conversion is really phenomenal and I'd love to see it in its form.
Thanks in advance,
DJF

I've got a couple more rooms done - but keep getting sidetracked. I really want to get the whole thing in Adobe InDesign and finish it right. But I may try finishing it in Publisher so you have the content ahead of that. I suppose part of my hesitancy is that I've tried to build in a twist ending and I run this at Paizocon and like the aspect of a surprise at the end. I suspect that's not a good reason though.
I will try to revisit this over Thanksgiving and post a few extra rooms then.
Thanks
