Excellent work!
I think Paladin in Hell is a GREAT old module.

Any groups interested in playing through this pathfinder version?

I would certainly be interested in playing or even just following along as a lurker.

Daemonslye:

Great work on this.
H1-H4 Bloodstone series, I would LOVE to see completely reworked, updated, and improved. I always thought this series was poorly done, but had GREAT potential. Perfect for super epic adventures (in my opinion).

Any desire to convert Bloodstone series?

I love what you have done so far!! Being a DM from the grand old days this is one of the modules that my group still talk about years after the fact. I am also with Deathbecomesus with wanting to see a updated H1-H4 Bloodstone series yet another group of modules that my group still loves. Thanks again for all the hard work.

This stuff looks really good - thank you for doing such excellent work! :)

Will you collect it into one PDF for simpler downloading when you're finished with the project? (Crosses fingers in hope.)

Wow! Sorry its taken me this long to find this post. I have converted a ton of this already. I really like what you have done though. Any thing else you need help with just let me know!

I had also been putting the entire text and graphics into "Pathfinder" type mode....but yours looks seriously nice.

Here was a cover of Paladin I worked up Here.

daemonslye - any chance you taking a crack at converting A Night Below? lol I converted it to 3.5 years back, but I love your work...

What happen to daemonslye? Has not posted anything new since March the 6th. I HOPE that he is OK! If not I WISH HIM WELL! Miss his posts! Would have LOVED to see this done to the finish. Started along time ago in converting the Queen of the Spiders, to 3.5 made it just before the Frost Giant Jarl complex! Lots of work!

** spoiler omitted **

Our DM did his own conversion of the gorristro using the 2nd editon to 3rd editon conversion manual, then updating the minor changes to 3.5.

It was only the gorristro having a lucky (for us) roll of a failed save on Wail of the Banshee from our wizard that saved us from a TPK of our party of five ECL 20 characters. Though, that same spell did kill two of our party members. (Bringing an evil wizard on this adventure is not the best of ideas, even if it was funny.) It was a good thing my cleric had prepared True Resurrection and Miracle as two of his 9th level spells.

he might be just too engrossed into the next conversion he cant make it to the boards? :)

Hey there. Sorry for the short absence. I should have another installment coming this weekend. Funny enough, I was also going to replace the Demon Giant - The soulkeeper felt a little too... much, and I wanted to get it a little closer to the spirit of the gorristo. So I should be able to repost that as well. I'll be taking another hiatus in mid april to enjoy a little R+R on "the big island" (Oahu - w00t).

I still plan to have this done by Paizocon - Maybe a group of us can do some playtesting there.

Thanks for the comments, and I'll keep banging on this until it's done.

Let me know what else you want converted - I heard H4 Throne of Bloodstone (yikes), or the other H series. I was kind of thinking of a lower level module to make things more usable to a wider audience (where pieces could be peeled off and used in an existing campaign).

Once I am close to done, I'll consolidate into a "final" post and try to make a it available in a single pdf. I've had problems with the size of the pdf though, so, apart from a bunch of .rar files, I may need to keep it in parts to assemble.

Thanks again for helping me get this done

ANYthing you need help with just say the word, again I 90% of Paladin in Hell to 3.5 and can send that to you if it would help at all. And feel free to use the cover (i'll put your name on it though) lol

Also I'd marry you if there were any possiblity at converting A Night Below (My very favorite box set) - and I have that converted to 3.5 if that helps....

Daemonslye:

I will say this again, GREAT work on this conversion!

I also will express my desires to see Bloodstone series (H1-H4) redone and reworked. All of or part of would please me.

Also......... I would like very much to follow along as a lurker with any group playing through this Paladin in Hell conversion. My time is limited so I could not commit to actually playing throught myself.
I would also like to follow along with any group that plays through Bloodstone series (if and when this happens).

Thanks

I updated the demon giant encounter above.

Both Night Below and the H series are pretty daunting to say the least. I'd get wrapped up in converting the battlefield rules in H for sure. I'll look at NB again - I do like that it starts at L1. Either way, I'm probably two or three months away from finishing Paladin so it will be a while before I decide.

I'll try to get one or two more encounters up this weekend at least. Cheers

Recently added (Apr 04, 2010) -> CITADEL COLDSTEEL, Areas 8. through 11. Duke Abigor's Quarters

Spoiler:

So I replaced Amon with Abigor. I was tempted to use the Tome of Horrors version, but it was a little high in CR. Abigor, a vassal of Baalzebul from Dragon 75 and mentioned in Dragon 91, seemed like a good choice given that Babatos was already used. He is a tough opponent, but I expect the PCs are level 17 or 18 by now.

I meant to add a sidebar on Devil Nobility that carries with it a boon of certain abilities. These are included in the stat block.

Enjoy

Truely beautiful work!

Hey just wanted to pop in and say love your work; just wanted to ask how you set up the format, been meaning to convert stuff for personal use and off course to post on here and id like to do it in a semi professional format

JDG - Let me know where to email the file. It won't come with fonts. It is currently in MS Pub 07. It's a little unoptimized e.g. disconnected tables and text fields. You can also email my paizo id @aoldotcom.

Heya you can email me at Jadedgodicn@yahoo.com, and were did you find MS Pub 07?

On a Side not, been thinking about converting against the giants for a while now... Love that adventure, and it was a blast the last time i played (silver edition). And i would definitly like to see night below converted, though it would be one heck of an undertaking.

JDG - I will send it when I get back. I got MS Pub from Microcenter (MS Office Small Biz);

I converted Hall of the Fire Giant King to 3.5 (I think Wizards did this as well, or at least a few people did). Also, I had been working on a Prologue adventure as well. I'll put it up in a week or so.

I've been looking at Night Below - I agree, it is a big undertaking, but the number of "uniques" is pretty manageable. That said, at least the lower level versions don't seem to need too much conversion. As I read the first installment, it reminded me somewhat of Kingmaker installment #1. It would be interesting to mash those two up (add the NPCs and a few encounters for NB and have the bandits replace the goblins/mites - connect the orcs to them);

I should have another update for PiH Sunday the 18th.

Yeah, I converted Against the giants and A night below to 3.5, but have yet to try going to pathfinder. If anyone needs help or my copies of the 3.5 stuff lemme know.

K Small problem with against the Giants... their are alot of frakin giants! trying to keep the level of the adventure roughly the same for posterity but wanting to add to and mold it to become more gamer friendly im curious what other people have done.

That sounds great! I'm interested in a 3.5 version of Against the Giants, and I know someone who would probably appreciate Night Below in 3.5 ... do you have a download site, or do you need an e-mail address?

Contributor

Yeah, no web space for me, but can email them I guess if they arent too large?

If you don't mind, then I would like both files. Try sending them to me at: bellonarpg (at) gmail (dot) com

Many thanks in advance! :)

Recently added (Apr 24, 2010) -> CITADEL COLDSTEEL, Areas 14. The Infernal Duchess

Spoiler:

I hated to change this encounter so radically as I liked the flavor for the original. That said, after playing a bit with the armor and the gas and the confines of the room, I just felt like I needed to move things around. I may come back to this and try to do a more "pure" conversion of the room, in the meantime, her is "option B".

Here are some aids if you are interested in running HALL OF THE FIRE GIANT KING for Edition 3.5:

- A "Prologue" Adventure (quite unfinished) -> CLICK HERE

- An "Encounter Booklet" with one page per monster stats -> included above

- A set of "Pre-Generated Characters" -> CLICK HERE

Hopefully these are useful. I have a fully converted module as well, but won't link to it here. Send me an email (per previous post) if you want a link to it.

It is not the whole giant series sadly - But what I like about Hall of the Fire Giant King is the ability to tie many of the randomly included items into a larger, darker storyline (see the prologue).

Spoiler:

Also, just looking at my previous fumblings, interesting to see the unholy complexity of 3.5E run rampant vs. PFRPG.

Enjoy

Recently added (Apr 24, 2010) -> CITADEL COLDSTEEL, Area 15. The Silent Guardian (through Area 17.)

I took a shot at trying to hit the same flavor as the guardian in the module. Also, the chat about the Hall of the Fire Giant King, had me update the chapel somewhat. FYI - I've been keeping several files up to date as I play with the map (the more recent ones, abigor and baftis).

Spoiler:

I got a couple of requests to post a link for the converted HotFGK, given it is a highly derivative work (e.g. fully converted and, in many parts, rewritten) - I can say how to get the file. It is the same url as the rest of links - the file is called "HFGK30.pdf" (it'll give you a 404 but the file will start downloading). Enjoy.

Very nice work daemonslye, I'm impressed!

Thanks Eric.

By my math, I have at least 10 weekends to complete and this assumes I do some serious "packaging" of the encounters (for example, Coldsteel Lvl2 in its entirety should be done next weekend).

While my initial estimate ("Summer" 2010) stands, I would like to finish before Paizocon but the timing looks rather tight. Given this, I may jump around a bit, completing some complex encounters up front and leaving some "basic rooms" for the end.

At some point (shooting for this summer), I expect I will reformat the whole, fix the ugly parts, and package into a finished download.

I am "on the hunt" for a new conversion opportunity - Some votes for Night Below or the H series are in. As I looked over some low level adventures, I keep coming back to higher level challenges.

I briefly considered Rappan Athuk, but, at this point, it seems insurmountable (although I admit I pine to fix it's maps). Above any mentioned above, I am seriously considering a favorite adventure...

It lies in Dungeon #112...... (aka WG5)

Some of my choices would be:

  • G1 & G2
  • The Role Aids "Lich Lords" adventure was a blast for me and my players(it was for 6 to 8 players, 12 to 16th level).
  • I never ran Night Below, but did buy it off ebay about 5 years ago and read it over. If you converted it I'd send my players through it.

Some comments:

  • H series was fun, but that is going to take some SERIOUS work to convert. The encounters are so unbalanced compared to current adventure design I can just see that causing lots of headaches - but if you could manage it I'd enjoy it.
  • D1-3, Q1 were great, but again with all the NPC class levels for the drow would be a bear to convert.
  • Surprisingly, I never cared for the original WG5 - I remember my players being very frustrated at the endless empty rooms in that place. The 3.5 adventure in Dungeon #112 was a good read...but it's so close to Pathfinder rules a conversion of that isn't as useful as some of the others mentioned above.

One more high level conversion that I would especially appreciate that I forgot about when making that last post is the 'Rod of Seven Parts'.

+1 for Night Below. Our group is considering re-starting that campaign, and a 3.x-friendly conversion would be a god-send for the DM.

+1 also for the GDQ series. I'm thinking of running them for a bunch of mostly new players (they're not so new to 3.x, but they've never played "the classics").

It annoys me that giants never got decent coverage in 3.x (unlike the Giantcraft supplement for 2e FR and The Liberation of Geoff for 2e GH). Indeed, I would love a discussion on how to make giants into decent opponents (beyond giving them a boat-load of hit points) with good tactics.

I have 3.x versions of A Night Below and Against the Giants - I have tried to email them out but the files are too large. I dont mind posting them for people to download, but no ability to. Anyone have an idea of free web space to upload things like these to post?

(And I cant wait til your conversion of Paladin is finished - loving it so far!)

Zerix..You should be able to post files to several different web services. I use http://www.4shared.com

I was wondering what had happened! :)

Please let us know when you find a download-hosting service.

I am about to start GDQ1-7 using Pathfinder RPG rules. The 3.x conversion would certainly be immensely useful.
Where can I see/get it?

I'm having problems accessing demonslye's links; I get a message that Acrobat could not be opened.

Am I doing something wrong?

To all the peeps... Here are some conversions of A night below and against the giants (NOOOO where near as good as demonsly's)

version of A Night Below
Go to A Night Below

Against the Giants

Go to G3

Go to G2

Go to G1

Hmmm. Try right clicking on the link and choose "Save As..."

You may also want to check the preferences in your reader. I highly recommend FOXIT reader and set the preferences to NOT open pdfs in your browser.

Zerzix - Nice work!

Good job Zerzix. While not as pretty as daemonslye's, the conversions definitely do the job.

This is a fantastic project and the pdfs look great. I for one would love to download a complete PDF conversion and run my players to it. Thanks for sharing this work.

Oh, that works; I was previously double-clicking the link.

Had a look at the last part (Citadel Coldsteel), and it looks great.
Nice, bite-sized chunks too.

I just got PiH off eBay last week, had a skim through it, then saw this thread. Total synchronicity.

Recently added (May 23, 2010) -> CITADEL COLDSTEEL, Level 2, Infernal Devices

Yeah, well, there is no way I'll have the whole thing done by Paizocon. I'm shooting to have Coldsteel complete at a minimum.

In terms of next conversions, (and in no particular order) I like:

Spoiler:
Tomb of the Lizard King, Return of the Eight, Secret of the Slaver's Stockade, Castle Amber, Q1, Temple of Elemental Evil (Hickman), Rappan Athuk, Isle of the Ape, Lost Tomb of Martek, The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, Baltron's Beacon, H4, From the Shadows, Ravenloft (i6), The Secret of Bone Hill, Greyhawk Ruins, The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, Vecna Lives!, Swordthrust, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, Egg of the Phoenix, and (the under-rated) Skarda's Mirror.

Heya Daemonslye just wanted to check and see if you were still going to be able to send me those docs. love what yer doing.
