Still, a roll call is evidently needed, so...

Human Monk: Naeem
Half-Orc Fighter: Jeagal
Human Cleric: Aude
Human Cleric/Rogue: Fortunata
Elven Ranger: Vaeral
Dwarven Wizard: Angus (Cyphermage)
Human Sorcerer: Sunny
Human Bard: Marten

Duly noted, discovered Linguistics replaced Descript Script or whatever its called so modified Angus appropriately, has there been any notes on restrictions pertaining to Cyphermages?

Female Human Celestial Sorcerer [1]

So when does this game start again?

Today, I thought.

Male Human (well i was this morning) Technical Sales Facilitator

Sorry people. Been a bit busy in real life. Should have something ready to go in the next 48 hours. Please bear with me. Thanks.

So do you guys need a new player?

Male Human Technician 17

I am not the DM, but as far as I know, nobody dropped, and we are at 8 man (or woman).

So any of you heard about the Order of Cyphers?

After discovering about Decipher Script is now Linguistics under Pathfinder Beta decided on changing a feat for Cypher Script so Angus would qualify as a Cyphermage.

Basically his tutor was a Vudrani Cyphermage who was trained at the Arcanamirum which is how he was taught arcane dueling and the link to the Order of Cyphers since his tutor Zephyr discovered Angus was born there and when effectively ordered to make sure Angus couldn't cast conjuration and enchantments chose to heighten Angus's interest in his past and by making him a Cyphermage a reason to actually visit Riddleport.

The real question is would that be allowed?

Is there information on becoming a Cypher Mage in the Second Darkness series?

I don't have the adventure for obvious reason and unless there's another source then I don't know if thats allowed.

Take care and all the best!

Just realised I made a major error with the skills but have amended them, still left wondering what else I've missed.

Take care and all the best!

The Exchange

Male Human Monk 1(favoured class)

Cypher Mage stuff in the Second Darkness Companion from the Pathfinder Chronicles (which is essentially the Players Guide).

Yes but they don't go into what it takes to become a Cyphermage so I was wondering if Angus could start off as a member so to take advantage of that boarding room bonus where you can stay for 1gp for being a member or 50gp if not notably because of the access to a library for research purposes...

Still may have to multi-class to provide a bit of extra fighter backup at a later stage though looks like Still Spell might be on the cards if Angus survives to reach 3rd level (Ftr/Wiz 1st/2nd?)

Probably a blessing for me since I found out I really messed up the skills for the character.

Okay an amended roll call,

Human Monk: Naeem
Half-Orc Fighter: Jeagal
Human Cleric: Aude
Human Cleric/Rogue: Fortunata
Elven Ranger: Vaeral
Dwarven Wizard/Fighter: Angus (Cyphermage)
Human Sorcerer: Sunny
Human Bard: Marten

Any update?

Male Human (well i was this morning) Technical Sales Facilitator

Yes.
Will deffinately start on sunday. Sorry guys.

So in the meanwhile regarding Cypher Mages is there any info on this in the Pathfinder that holds the first part of the Second Darkness adventure?

I've got the companion and since its 3.5 I'm now assuming having a 1 rank in Linguistics is enough to gain the Cypher Script feat so I'd like your opinion on this, if not then at least I'll have time to change the feat back to Dodge.

Also any other questions from the rest?

Male Human (well i was this morning) Technical Sales Facilitator

I have checked and as far as I can see there is no further details about Cypher Mages in the adventure. So the 1 rank in linguistics is fine by me.

Any other questions?

Before we begin, here are a few guidelines that I will be utilising:-

COMBAT

-Posting. My hope is for people to post in (approximately) initiative order. At the start of a fight, I’ll roll initiative for all of you so that we don’t spend a whole day waiting of hear from everybody.

-Revealed statistics. At the start of any combat, I’ll supply you with defensive statistics for all involved monsters and NPCs, both enemies and allies. These will be formatted as follows:

NAME (number present): statistics and abilities.

As an example, using the sample NPC from page 339 of the PRPG Beta.

KIRAMOR, THE FOREST SHADOW (1): AC 18 (touch 14, flat-footed 14); Fort 17, Ref 22, Will 12; hp 45; evasion (on a failed attack vs. Reflex that still deals half damage on a miss, Kiramor instead takes no damage).

-Recording attacks. Whenever you attack a monster or NPC, record the attack roll and (if you hit) damage dealt. Then record the total amount of hit points that the monster or NPC has left. When recording the hit points of monsters where there are more than one of the same type (for example, 3 orc barbarians), please differentiate the monsters using numbers (Orc Barbarian 1, Orc Barbarian 2, and Orc Barbarian 3). At the end of each round, I’ll post an update with remaining hit points on all involved monsters and NPCs. Whenever a PC’s hit points change, from damage or healing, the attacker/healer should do the same and post remaining hp.

-Space. Generally, space isn’t an issue. At the end of each round, I’ll post rough estimates of each creature’s location, but I won’t have a grid in front of me, either. Generally, ranged attacks (including ranged spells) can be made with no penalty against any creature in the same combat (unless there is some obviously major distance in spacing).

-Attacks of Opportunity. These will really need to be made ad hoc. If you think that any action should provoke an attack of opportunity based on the active creature’s space, please say so. For the most part, I’ll fully adjudicate monster AoPs and when PCs get to make AoPs.

Wasn't there something about wererats in the player's guide?

Or was that mere rumour?

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

humanoid (human) is a very, very good choice.

xdahnx wrote:

Very possibly but what if the game doesn't evolve around human foes?

I guess going up levels will eventually cover that problem AND (more importantly) it IS Riddleport after all.

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

It does.

Humans are the most prevalent race in the world. There will be plenty of reasons to fight them, especially in a town like Riddleport.

Also, try to think within the scope of a pbp; Unless the game runs for years, you'll never touch the higher reaches of the game. Given the speed of the game at present, we may never see drow.

There will be plenty of humans, however.

Male Human (well i was this morning) Technical Sales Facilitator

OK everyone, I think i'm about ready to start.

The game will run under the title of -
"Something wicked this way comes" and will appear on the Play-by-pot site. I will set the scene first, then if everyone can introduce their pc's to each other, explain how they get there etc...that will be great.

I will take it slow over the first few days just so I can get a feel for things if thats ok?

I will also be posting as Dr.Dark.

Game on !!!
Yeepeee !!!!!!

Liberty's Edge

You are right, humans it is then. thank you.

For those of you who didn't found it :
Something Wicked This Way Comes! by Dr Dark is the posting address

Heres a Link to the thread

No news of our bard ?

About the games , I think the best way to do it is to describe the games available , ask each player what game he want to play and how many games (money) he wants to play
Then roll for him the results and eventually a wisdom check to see if he know when to stop ....

I don't like the idea of a wisdom roll to stop. There is a profession gambling skill that can be used, or absent of that, a Bluff roll based on chr for card games etc. To see how well you can do during the games.

At no time though should I need to basically make a will save to stop gambling if I want to. Thats not very organic.

The wisdom check is not to see if you win or not.

Who has never played until late in the night when at the beginning you only intended to play 1 hour or two .....

"I don't like the idea of a wisdom roll to stop."

I understood what you said. To be 100% clear, I don't like the idea of being forced to use a wisdom check to resist the compulsion to stop gambling. If my character wishes to stop at any time I shouldn't have to make a will saving throw. I don't have a flaw saying "Gambler" or anything similar, so why impose a game mechanic saving throw to do something that I should have control over?

Magical compulsions aside, I'm just resistant to your suggestion that we add an artificial roll for something that seems unnecessary, or out of place.

Quote:

Because I proposed that the DM did all the rolls to accelerate the game . Of course if we do it game after game , we can stop when we want .

Should there be a will saving throw to decide when our characters stop eating? Or drinking? Even if we've reasonably had enough?

Eating no . Drinking yes.
Gambling and drinking is the kind of situation where you can lose control of yourself and sometimes go too far.
But I guess we'll have to disagree about this

I vehemently disagree. (still) :)

That's all there is to do, now, is disagree. We're not able to do much else here. This game was started before mine, and my players are now fighting the thugs for control of the chest.

Female Human Celestial Sorcerer [1]

I haven't played this yet, please no more spoilers :P

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

Had no idea. Sorry!

Female Human Celestial Sorcerer [1]

No Harm, I have run Burnt Offerings, and some of Skinsaw Murders. The rest is new.

Looking at running a 0th level pathfinder beta game so far whilst there's been interest on the gamer connection noone posted on the play by post discussion thread.

Is there something special about setting up a link to it that I've missed?

I've placed a link in that thread but nobody seems to have used it.. I think?

Shadow Lodge

Male. Mostly. Elf Wizard3/Master Enchanter7

I wanted to finalize My character before I jumped into it!

Liberty's Edge

Is this officially a dead end?

I was really looking forward to the game :-(

Male Human Technician 17

Yeah, me too. But it seems really dead now.

Odd I still haven't bought any of this adventure path unless you include the Player's Companion but I still thought the party was going to be gatecrashed by wererats...

Hope everything's okay with the dm regardless of the fate of this game...

I sure do too! Looking at one of his profiles: http://paizo.com/people/Skazzgrakk/posts he seems to post elsewhere on the Paizo boards?
