Who, exactly has said that the Beta will be a short run?
With a Jillion Alpha downloads, and Paizo wanting to get as many Gamers as possible on board, this seems like a rather silly happening. OK, not as silly as wasting 2 hours watching 'The Happening', but still...
I assume that you mean as a Pre-Order?
I'm picking mine up at Gencon (Even though a short wait for it to hit my LGS would net me a 30% break...I used to work there, and still get my employee discount). 2 of the guys who work at said store are also buying at Gencon, for full price, just top have it for the Con. Wacky Gamers!!!

I did! I did!
Basically, we're printing the beta as a convenience for playtesters who want a printed book, and we're pricing it as low as we can so that as many people can get into the playtest as possible. There's not a lot of profit margin there (especially with Pathfinder Adventure Path subscribers getting 15% off with the Pathfinder Advantage discount). So if we're still sitting on copies when the finished product comes out in 2009, that would be bad. Thus, we're erring on the side of caution, picking a number that we're confident we can sell in a year; typically, we plan for a three-year sellout, more or less.
Of course, if we sell out in the first month or two, we'll print more, but the closer we we get to the August '09 release of the finished book, the less likely it is we'll be able to reprint without losing money (keeping in mind that if we reprint fewer copies in a new press run, the per-unit cost goes up, and we just can't afford for that to happen.)

Vic, am I able to get this at my FLGS? I'd love to support them (And have them support you, as they are all very pro Paizo), and ...er, let's just say that they are very happy with the direction of the Pathfinder RPG.
See, I said nothing negative about that other brand new shiny WotC book.-Uriel

Got two copies as well, one for me and one for the wife. Hers was also going to be the table copy, until I found out two other players of mine are also each ordering a copy as well!

I preordered myself one Jeff, like the day it was announced. Both the beta and the hardcover.

Just curious, Vic, but has Paizo considered POD for the Beta if/when the first print run sells out?

Uriel:
We will be offering the book through our normal distribution channels. We aren't sure how the retailers will react to the idea of selling a playtest book, but we are going to offer it anyway. So your FLGS should be able to get it from you.

Thank you very much. As a resident of Ontario, I can rarely afford to ship Paizo stuff directly to my home. My FLGS is a friendly mediary, and will happily order something for me!

Purchased two (2) copies of the Pathfinder beta.
They said its going to be a short print run and I don't want to be left without enough books at the table once the new game starts.
Just preordered one myself. I seem to be addicted to Paizo products. Now if only I can convince my friends to find time to play...

Considered and rejected. In fact, we considered it for the *first* print run. It turns out that if we do a run with sufficient volume, it's cheaper (and nicer) if we print it in China. And if we *don't* have that volume, then it's cheaper for *you* to have the free PDF printed locally. (That way, you avoid paying for the POD printer to ship it to us, and for us to ship it to you.)

Ummm... I already put a pre-order in through my FLGS (bc well, there are only two LGS left here on Oahu and I really want one to stay open). So I hope that last sentence is [able to get it for you].

Uhm. Assuming y'all will.. I dunno... have copies there.
Vic or Lisa,
Do you happen to know if any gaming stores here in Scandinavia (Finland, precisely) have ordered PF Beta? I would love to support my FLGS, especially as the guys there are actually quite leery (and pessimistic) about 4E. I'm also going to make my players (who have enjoyed the Alpha rules a lot) to buy their own copies. :)
