BS in Accounting.
Oh yeah? Well, I can BS in Accounting too, but I'm probably not as good at it. :)
I took about 3 years at a 2-year junior college :) and still need 8 more credits for an AS in Comp Sci. Well, 23 years ago 8 credits would've been enough; now I would probably need to start over. :)
My occupation? I teach on-site computer classes as an independent contractor for 4-5 vendors. I only do the very technical stuff: device driver development, kernel debugging, and so on.

. B.A. (Honours) in Sociology from the University of Calgary
. M.A. in Sociology from the University of Alberta
. Post-graduate diploma in Development and International Relations from Aalborg University (Denmark).
I was halfway through a PhD in sociology... but became annoyed with all the silly hoops I had to jump through in order to become a member of the "smart boys club," and so lost interest. Took off to do a six month internship in Guyana, instead, which totally changed my life.
And despite the social science background, I've landed some decent jobs. The salary isn't even close to what the local petroleum engineers and IT specialists are making, but I can't complain. I've been working for a Canadian non-profit youth service learning program for the past three years, and will be handing in my resignation letter on Monday... yee-haw, freedom, here I come! Well, until the next place hires me, which might be sooner than later... hopefully with a slightly more generous paycheque!

Vattnisse have you taken any courses from Professor Chuck Hunt? He is my father and teachers Sociology at the U of O.
Anyhow as to the purpose of this post:
BS - Double Major - History & Art (not Art History, both seperate subjects) - University of Oregon
MAT - Masters of Arts in Teaching - focus on Secondary Social Studies and Art Education - Pacific University

Sol |

i will also add Vattnisse, that the U of O has a great History department, never really had any bad prof's through it, and most were well above average. I would recomend taking some Japaense history from Jeff Hanes, he is great, and of course any US history from Dan Pope if he has not retired yet, he is a nervous man by nature but he runs a tight ship in class.
Oh and as far as work I teach Art at a Public High School and during the Summer I also teach Driver's Ed.

Professor Hunt's office is almost right next to mine! I've never taken any sociology classes, though, mostly because their grad classes have serious prerequisites (unlike History or PoliSci). I'm not going to go through the whole 200- and 300- series of classes just to take Sociology of conflict...
I agree on the History assessment, and Jeff Hanes is a great guy. I was going to take one of his classes last term, but had to switch it; I'll definitely be looking for him in the future.

Ah so you are in old Grayson..er I mean Embezzlement...er McKenzie Hall. What fun the U of O has with their donors eh?
Definetly take some classes from Hanes, he is a great guy, don't know if he would remember me, although I took about 6 classes from him, mostly 400 level too.
So are you in a Age of Worms campaign atm? Are you playing or GM?
Oh and as far a alignments go, as an art teacher I would definetly have to be Chaotic Neutral or at best Chaotic Good, just very chaotic (my teaching room is a good stand in for Limbo most of the time, or at least Pandemonium)

Stefan,
There were many Germans at the Univ. of Texas at El Paso when I went there from '86 to '88--anyone who had an Abitur only had to take about 4 semesters of classes to get a Bachelor's Degree, so I think your 4 years at a German Uni probably give the equivalent of a Master's Degree. Those who graduated from Realschule had to take only one semester more than those who had an Abitur, I believe.
Stefan
Hi there Farewell2kings,
Germany knows two different kinds of university:
- university and
- university of applied sciences.
Studying at universities usually takes longer (8+ semesters), and enables students to achieve a doctor title afterwards.
Universities of applied sciences don't encompass as much research and theoretical contents as universities, their focus is on teaching the skills needed for later work.
Master and bachelor titles were unusual until fairly recently in an attempt to make german grades more comparable to international ones. Otherwise both university and university of applied sciences grades are "Diplom-..." (...engineer, ... in business administration, etc.), but distinguishable by an abbreviation in brackets.
Master/ bachelor and Diploma don't seem to be exactly comparable. Most universities introducing them, had to re-adjust their curriculi.
Btw. I graduated at a university of applied sciences.
Finishing the overflow... :p
Günther
P.S.
Abitur is the grade you reach after four years of elementary school and eight years on gymnasium (roughly comparable to high school).

BA in Anthropology specialty in archaeology from Brown University
MA in Anthropology, same specialty, from the University of Missouri - Columbia
most of a PhD in (you guessed it) Anthropology, same place (I left after completing all my classes but before my dissertation after things got unbelievably ugly...)
JD from the University of Wisconsin
And, right now, I don't really do anything for a living....

I have a Masters in Organizational (corporate) Communications, for what it's worth.
I also teach undergraduate Communications courses at one of the local community colleges.
I also teach what has been called by some the "non-subject" at community colleges and universities.
Good to have ya here, brother!
(MA in media studies/communiction, as I think I already posted in this thread once.)

Wow. Some people will do just anything to avoid getting a proper job.

Don't confuse schooling with education.
And this is a self-selected sample, of course.
"All schools, all colleges, have two great functions: to confer, and to conceal, valuable knowledge. The theological knowledge which they conceal cannot justly be regarded as less valuable than that which they reveal. That is, when a man is buying a basket of strawberries it can profit him to know that the bottom half of it is rotten." --Mark Twain
It is amusing to see how many people are posting with degrees in Life Avoidance.

Yeah, I know... The Norwegian stuff was essentially done part-time, as I was working various dead-end jobs. The first MA failed to get me a good job (though I did get plenty of job interviews), so I got one more while applying to US universities... Again, Norwegian university tuition is free, so I just kept taking classes. As a result, I have about two gazillion college credits and no particularly relevant job experience. If I could do my 20ies over again, I would most certainly change some things...
