Superb artwork, Stellar stories

5/5

I play RPG’s for the stories that are told which means that lore is a very important element, maybe even THE element of inspiration for character creation and other role-play aspects that I apply when creating my characters. I also enjoy a very good tale, and this book is filled with oodles of good stories, as well as crucial world building and shaping information which I’ll find inspiration from for years to come. I tip my hat to everyone on the team who put stellar effort into creating this masterpiece.

5/5

Very cool to see how some of Golarion’s most famous NPCs know each other and read their stories.

A Perfect Product

5/5

I've always been a little wary of NPC Codex books like Rival's Guide. They've always come with neat portraits and have inspired some some NPCs... but they were among the least touched paizo products I owned.

And then this came out and blew me out of the water.

I can't put this book down. I feel like I've read every entry twice and I'm still finding new things between the lines, as though the text itself were some kind of living document changing with the whims and machinations of the legends contained within. The crunchy bits turned this from a 4.5 star review to a 5 star review, especially expanding upon the Lost Omens Character Guide archetypes that needed some help to compete with what the Advanced Players Guide gave us.

The art alone makes this worth it as a coffee table piece. Even if I wasn't GMing in the Lost Omens setting, I'd want this just to inspire my own plots and plans for legendary NPCs.

Special shout-outs to Hao Jinn for both a well written entry and giving us some more Ace representation, Artokus Kirran for having the best familiar ever, Thrune's contract, Kassi Aziril for giving us a name to connect to Golarion non-magic healing options, and most of all the amazing little nuggets spread throughout the book connecting all these wonderful characters (like the Red Mantis refusing to assassinate Kassi, or Razmir and the Whispering Tyrant...).

If I had to complain, it'd be the selfish request that I wish we got a Lion Blade dedication feat or two in Eutropia's entry after they did so much to help secure her place on the throne. But I understand there are only so many pages worth of content and this is me being greedy.

Legends delivers!

5/5

This book is a must have for anyone homebrewing in the world of Golarion. The combination of lore elements and game mechanics to tie to them is wonderful and it is broad enough to give you some direction for all kinds of international world-sized events that make golarion such an interesting place to homebrew in.

I hope so, Numerian Fluids were one of many random-table effects from 1e, and while I get that they have niche appeal I absolutely love them. Those and Wild Magic (which probably doesn't fit in this book) are things I'm hoping to get rules for eventually.
Kelseus wrote:
Paradozen wrote:

On-topic: I wonder if this is a good book to bring Numerian Fluids to 1e. They were pretty related to Kevoth-Kul. I also wonder if we'll get more information on guns in 2e. Not full gun rules, but maybe something adjacent to them in a section about Alkenstar (the person) or a legendary figure in or around Alkenstar (the place).

There is an NPC in Age of Ashes that is described as having a gun.

I'm just a player so that is the extent that I know, but someone who has read the AP might be able to jump in with more info (if it exists) behind a spoiler tag?

I've seen the statblock for it

Cult of Cinders spoiler:
The NPC in question has a blunderbuss that IIRC gives them a cone attack with a risk of the contraption exploding when fired.
But I don't think that's quite what I'm hoping to see in Lost Omens Legends. Releasing a proper firearm without playtesting a firearms system or gunslingers seems a bit premature. I'm more hoping for something like black powder grenades, technology that is adjacent to firearms but not too disruptive to implement without playtesting.

On an unrelated note, I just realized that the abbreviation for this book (along the lines of the Core Rulebook being the CRB or the Advanced Players Guide being the APG) is the LOL.

Updating the list of confirmed legends. Two of my favorite characters from the setting were confirmed! *w*

Confirmed Legends List:

- Old-Mage Jatembe
- Her Infernal Majestrix, Queen Abrogail II
- Hurricane Queen Tessa Fairwind
- Whispering Tyrant
- Grand Princess Eutropia
- Nex
- Geb
- Great Dwarf King Taargick
- Linnorm King White Estrid
- Runelord Shorshen
- Dear Grandmother Baba Yaga
- Bearer of the Viridian Crown Telandia Edasseril
- Khismar Crookchar from the Technic League
- Black Sovereign Kevoth-Kul
- Shimali Manix
- Sapphire Butterfly
- A hellkinight leader
- Magaambya member that I can't remember
- A member of the knights of lastwall

The last five legends are at least unknown to me or yet to be named. Could anyone share something about Shimali or the Sapphire Butterfly?

Thinking about possible legends included in the book, I can't remember a gnome of great importance to the setting. We have a dwarf king and an elven queen, and there are also the halflings from Bellflower and the Orc chieftains from Belkzen or Belkzen himself... But what about the gnomes?

Lost Omens Legends is almost upon us. I'm interested in hearing what figures people think made it into the book. For reference, here's all of the figures we've confirmed *somewhere* in the past year.

``` Queen Abrogail II, Old Mage Jatembe, Tessa Fairwind, Tar-Baphon, Artokus Kirran, Baba Yaga, Belimarius, Sorshen, Geb, Nex, Hao Jin, Janatimo, Grand Princess Eutropia, Kevoth-Kul, Sapphire Buttefly, Taargick, and White Estrid```
Notably, Hao Jin, the Ruby Phoenix, Artokus, the alchemist doing the immortality elixir, and also missing Belimarius.
The magaambya person is Janatimo, Speaker of All the World’s Tales.
Captain Shamali Manux is a Firebrand. One of the first ship to ship from Vidrian to seek help.
I'm probably not going to switch to PF2, but I absolutely love Golarion, which is my favorite setting/world in all of D&D land so a book about the legends of the Lost Omens setting is something I *must* have.
Thank you Paizo for creating what I am sure will be a truly awesome book!! This has be me quite hyped.
Plus, I rather like some of those authors listed, they are pretty swell folk!
From the Legends we already know, which do you think is the strongest?
Baba Yaga > Nex/Geb > Tar-Baphon/Sorshen... Maybe?
That's probably not the book answering this question, but maybe we can speculate better after it's release.
It's heavily implied that either Nex had the resources of a god or just was a god.
Still very impressive, but way easier than doing this for a full god. :P
I don't know about the others because they all have some pretty impressive feat in their history, but definitly I see Baba Yaga as the most powerful.
All these things about Geb and Nex make me realise that I really need to look what's happening outside of Avistan, they seem lot more powerful that what I imagined
Baba Yaga was CR 30 in 1E. Sorshen was CR 27. Geb and Nex would have to be somewhere in this range.
According to James Jacobs the ranking would look like this:
James Jacobs wrote:
My preference, which isn't the same as canon, since I don't make that decision on my own, would be:
Alaznist
Baba Yaga
Xanderghul
Sorshen
Jatembe
Tar Baphon
Nex
Geb
Karzoug
Zutha
Note that Alaznist is only stronger than Baba Yaga due to her (temporarily) getting time travel powers, and that without that she is less powerful (clarified a few posts down).
Belimarius was weaker than many of the Runelords, yet look who's alive now? I'm curious to see what's her agenda following the rise of New Thassilon.
Basically, the only reason Baba Yaga is not a full-on deity at this point is that she feels like that would restrict her (she wouldn't be able to travel the material plane and poke her nose in people's affairs). :P
To be fair she has shown she don't want people asking her anything, like with Kostchtchie (even if he dind't ask nicely or anything it's a good exemple)
Or the fact that she grew bored of her kingdom in the First World only because they started to venerate her
Is there a paizo discord?
I found these tease on Arcane Mark's discord server (for Mark Seifter's Twitch stream). Discord Link
We are a smallish community, with lot of Paizo people. All very welcoming and friendly. :3
There's also a Pathfinder discord server made by the subreddit people, there are some Paizo employees sometimes, but it's much more for/by fans. They have about 8k people (last I looked) Pathfinder subreddit server
The only official Paizo-made server is the Online convention one, acting as virtual tables for centralized voice chat for Pathfinder/Starfinder Society games. But it's basically closed between con.
More on the subject: The other day Jason teased that Razmir was in the book on Twitter. Twitter POst
Kinda bummed they share an entry, but I guess there's a fair amount of info on them already. Most of it is obviously 1e, but I'm guessing not much would be added since in world not much has changed. Ie, no time jumps, no world changing catastrophes, no ends times, etc to signify a new edition. Just some updating to nations, a couple new ones(but nothing truly major, I don't think), and various other changes due to the APs and other game events.
Thanks for sharing! I must say that I'm really happy to see many lf my favorite npcs confirmed - specifically Azaersi, Choral and Jakalyn. Yet, I can't deny that I'm surprised by the absence of many famous npcs of the setting.
From the confirmed list, this are the ones I know close to nothing (or nothing at all) about:
Irahai
Janatimo
Kalabrynne
Clarethe Iomedar
I'm surprised to not see the following names in the book, although this could also lead to future products in the same format including them.
Kazavon
General Arnisant
Ruby Prince Khemet III
Sirian Aldori
Walkena
The Black Triune
