Bow Down in Fear!

Monsters have long stalked us in the darkness. Within this book, you’ll find a host of these creatures for use in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Face off against archdevils and the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, planar dragons and the legendary wild hunt, proteans and psychopomps, and hundreds more! Some creatures, such as the capricious taniwha, the mysterious green man, or the powerful empyreal lords, might even be willing to provide your heroes aid—if they deserve it!

Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 6 is the sixth must-have volume of monsters for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and serves as a companion to the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook and Pathfinder RPG Bestiary. This imaginative tabletop game builds upon more than 10 years of system development and an open playtest featuring more than 50,000 gamers to create a cutting-edge RPG experience that brings the all-time best-selling set of fantasy rules into a new era.

Pathfinder RPG Bestiary 6 includes:

  • More than 200 different monsters.
  • New player-friendly races, like the crazed monkey goblins, the telepathic albino munavris, the river-dwelling fey naiads, the wolflike rougarou, and the yaddithians of the Elder Mythos.
  • Numerous powerful demigods, from archdevils and Great Old Ones to empyreal lords and qlippoth lords.
  • New animal companions and other allies, such as fierce devil monkeys and loyal clockwork hounds.
  • New templates, including the entothrope and the mongrel giant, to help you get more life out of classic monsters.
  • Appendices to help you find the right monster, including lists by Challenge Rating, monster type, and habitat.
  • Expanded universal monster rules to simplify combat.
  • Challenges for every adventure and every level of play.

And i thought i didn't need this one!

5/5

I had thought when Bestiary 6 came out I wouldn't need it.

How wrong was I!

This book will definitely take it's place as one of the essential Pathfinder books in my collection, if you're waiting to get this, don't! Get it now!

Well done Paizo!

My one complaint is mine had the same shitty yellow binding glue as the first printing of the Starfinder CRB, but I'm not dropping the rating because it is that good (also I still have binding glue leftover from my Starfinder CRB).

A solid addition

4/5

So Bestiary 5 was a bit disappointing to me, but this one is something that did something with Pathfinder I haven't seen in a while: gave me ideas that I wanted to use. A lot of the monsters presented are honestly interesting. As usual, there are some reprints from other products, but I always favor having consolidated lists of things. I won't use everything, but there is enough here that I'll be using a good chunk.

Also, the weremantis reminded me how much I love Portal, so I have to give it to them there.

Upward Trend

5/5

A wide variety of creatures with overall high quality artwork. I like the inclusion of the numerous high CR creatures.

Bestiary 5 and 6 have been my favorite Bestiary books by far.

Unusable

1/5

So me and two other guys from my gaming group ordered this book from amazon. WOW, all of us have missing and or scrambled pages.

I have over 17 missing pages (most of the archdevils content)and more or less 20 pages out of order. I don't know if they are sending all the "special" books down here, but I can assure you I will never buy a physical book from Paizo anymore.

That would be hilarious.

Actually, no. They have a box on their person that makes them seem human. Otherwise, just turning people into more Rougarou would go against what we know about genetics.

Good to hear that we are getting some cool and interesting creatures and beasties to ruin people's day, or improve their lives greatly. Of course fighting arch Devils or the four horsemen is going to be a sure fire way to have a unprepared pcs head beaten in. Still, if they pull it off, they have major bragging rights...until they show up again to get revenge.

MOAR monsters to design with, whoohoo!!

Depends on how they illustrate him. If they take cues from Clash of the Titans, we would have a frightening Charon indeed. However, if they take cues from the actual greek myths, you have a Septuagenarian stearing the boat. If they take cues from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, you get someone in their 50s and a source of comedy.

I approve either way.

The Rougarou are aliens from the Canis Majoris constellation. I even know which star. There are four varieties: Red, Grey, Black, and White. When ever they came to visit, they could "shapeshift" into human form by using a device that makes them look human. They are humanoid wolves normally, and they are the cause of most of our werewolf legends.

The Kitsune on the other hand, are from another star in the Canis Majoris constellation and when they visit they have the same holographic technology. Or what I just said can be taken as nonsense. However, I know it's the truth.

Not the appropriate place to bring up this request—and as mentioned above and in the comments, this is not the actual cover art.

Let's keep this thread focused on Bestiary 6. Thanks.

This is totally awesome. Don't know what else to say right now beyond that. I'm really surprised it's happening so soon, but definitely pleased. Really looking foreward to the Green Man in particular. I assumed we would never get one because the term "Leshy" was used elsewhere. I wonder which more obscure mythological and folkloric creatures will be used, I'm sure there will be a lot, they're just not big enough names to be listed in the product description. I'd like to see the Curupira which was cut from B5.

On the subject of Naiads, I'm predicting that they will be extremely attractive and available as both genders. As of B5, many traditionally monogendered races were made into normal, two-gendered ones, and I'm guessing that'll happen here. I hope the artwork is female, though, since I never pass up the opportunity to oggle fey women.

On the subject of the Yaddithian, I'd never heard of it before, but it looks awesome. I love PC races that are just totally bizarre and random and out there. It looks really "Mos Eisley Cantina-ish," which I can appreciate.

Also, Krampus, Mephisto, Four Horsemen, Wild Hunt, awesome, which I think goes without saying. This is clearly a Mythic bestiary like B4, which explains the smaller number of creatures. That's fine, considering B5 had no demigods at all, and I do not see as in any way indicative of Paizo running out of creature ideas or wanting to stop producing Bestiaries, just to inform those of us who are inevitably going to fear the worst about that.

I approve of Bestiary 6, and I will be getting a copy, even though I did my own rougarou race for Pathways earlier. :-) Besides, Szuriel.

Folks eager for a preview of the Yaddithian should read Lovecraft's short story, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key."

The time for further revelations of who and what exactly will be in the book is not now—we just announced it. Let us spread things out a bit rather than revealing every secret on day one.

Did we ever get any kind of clear answer on if this pushes back Encounter Codex or was it announced elsewhere that that was pushed back/not being released, etc?

Given the fact that the company's creative director counts Harryhausen as one of the most incredible talents film has ever produced and that the company's publisher has a life sized replica bubo in his office... not sure why this should be a surprise! :-P

i hope a legendary rakshasa like Ravanna in the Hindy mythology or a mythical paragon empyreal angel. I no is already in bestiary 5 in a standard monster but a man can dream anything.

I do. I don't run my campaigns in Golarion, but in my own world system. I never have opened up the Inner Sea Guide in a while. Though I do use Inner Sea Magic. My apologies if this certain Creative Director feels slighted by my comment. Besides, a certain self publisher likes Ray Harryhausen as well.

I too would like Ravana. It was really cool to see Kabandha in B5, albeit as a race of creatures and not a Rakshasa.

While I've enjoyed all the Bestiaries to date, I was a tad disappointed in 5, not being happy with the Annunaki and the other "aliens" that popped up. But I'm very optimistic for this one!

2 people marked this as a favorite.

If you dislike aliens, those are almost certainly going to be Starfinder territory at this point, though they could still be used in Pathfinder for those who want them. I, however, do like aliens, and I am pleased to see an alien-centric bestiary IN ADDITION to the more traditional ones.

Little nervous about the Rougarou. I'm worried that it won't be used to its full potential as a lot of the abilities it had in the myth are beyond what PCs are capable of by default. Kind of similar to how I feel about the Kitsune and Tengu. I think Cynocephali might have been a better choice for the role of PC dog-men.

Still, I'm glad to see it in some form. Nice to see something from Cajun folklore. I'm pleased that the roster of new world creatures is slowly but surely expanding. Another Cajun creature I'd like to see is the Letiche, or Honey Island Swamp Monster. Especially if they use the less down-to-earth version, with reptilian and crustaceal features along with hominid ones. Another is the Parlangua, a near invulnerable crocodilian humanoid with a potential sonic attack.

Part of me hopes that the Four Horsemen will be the biblical ones....but for some reason I'm guessing they're going to chuck Conquest out and shove Pestilence in....

Anyhow, this is a much faster turnaround between Bestiary 5 and Bestiary 6 than I expected. From the description, I'm hoping for some more CR 26+ monsters that aren't horrible. Also hoping we can FINALLY get the Strix and Gillmen into a bestiary. They are the only two races in the ARG which aren't in any of the Bestiaries 1-5.

I'd actually prefer more species without genders or sexes.

huh...pleasantly surprised, although I would guess this might be because the late fall release that the bestiary normally slots into is going to the Starfinder monster book (although if it is I hope they go with field guide or some other name)

It's pushed early, but if bestiaries are every other year, than 2017 was kind of the "scheduled" year for the next hardcover book.

An Villain Codex, NPC Codex, and Bestiary 6 all in a row is a bit unusual, but I guess this is to free up rules design for Starfinder?

Also please...MORE SAKHILS. Definitely one of my new favorite outsider groups, and would love to see more.

I wonder if the outer plane dragons will actually be associated with a specific plane or be like "Good Aligned Planes"/"Evil Aligned Planes"/"Chaos aligned planes"/"Law aligned planes"/"Neutral aligned planes".

*agrees with Jawa* More Sakhils.

Milo,

Uhm Golorian's arch daemons are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. IE Death, Famine, War and Pestilence.

I hope the Lashunta finally gets into a hardcover bestiary. Also wouldn't mind if the Strix, Gillmen, and Syrinx made it in.

I hope the art for the naiad is female, good looking/cute, and has blue skin.

I hope that at least one of these guys made in; Cheshire Cat, Nekomata, or Bakeneko.

Strange new player-character-suitable races like the canine rougarou,

Okay, maybe just one more. PS: Please let the rougarou be wolflike, and not humanoid pugs or something.

And more on the Four Horsemen, Archdevils, and the Wild Hunt and Krampus is good too. More templates are always great.

A bit OT but I never even heard of Letiche or Parlangua, though I've never read a lot about Cajun folklore besides Rougarou, Peremalfait, and the Cajun version of the Wild Hunt. Oh, and those legends about Jean Lafitte's Black Dogs. Do you know of any websites with information on these critters?
