Unleash Your Fury!

When devils slay the knightly leader of Arwyll Stead and orcs from the Hell's Fury tribe attack the town, all hope seems lost for the brave people living on Lastwall's border. The coincidental arrival of the mysterious half-orc Vegazi also raises unsettling questions, and it's up to the heroes to make sense of these events and end the Hell's Fury tribe's threat to Arwyll Stead once and for all. What does Vegazi have to do with the raiders' diabolical plot? Who will rally Arwyll Stead now that the town's icon has been cut down? And who is the mastermind orchestrating the orc tribe's alliance with devils from beyond?

Daughters of Fury is a deluxe adventure for 3rd-level characters, and includes 64 action-packed pages of exciting battles, enticing social encounters, and new monstrous foes, plus a gorgeous double-sided poster map featuring an overview of Arwyll Stead and a miniatures-scale battlemap! The author of this adventure, Victoria Jaczko, was the winner of the 2014 RPG Superstar contest, in which hundreds of unpublished authors compete for the chance to write a Pathfinder Module, and in addition to her adventure, this book contains a host of new monsters and magic items designed by the contest's runners-up.

Players can expect to reach 6th level upon completion of this adventure—if they can survive the onslaught of hell-tainted orcs and deadly devils!

First of all, this review contains spoilers. Secondly, I voted for Victoria Jascko in RPG Superstar last year, so I'm likely to be pre-disposed to voting for her stuff. Daughters of Fury is my first review of a Module. I've got some notes for doing some stuff from the Campaign Setting line as well. Unfortunately, school this semester is keeping me from getting things up too regularly. Fortunately, I generally do have time to make notes. So, when I do have time to transition them from notes into final posts, I will have a lot of them!

Daughters of Fury is the most recent adventure published by Paizo as part of its Pathfinder Modules line. It was written by Victoria Jaczko, the winner of last year's RPG Superstar. In fact, Daughters of Fury is developed from her module pitch that won the contest for her. Daughters of Fury is an adventure for 4 third to sixth level PCs. The cover art is awesome, and gives a great visual that a GM can share with his players. But, the PDF takes awhile to load--something that several others have commented about on the Paizo boards.

The module's backstory is engaging, but it's also very complex. Consequently, this module requires a very good GM to pull it off. Vegazi is also a hugely important NPC who may or may not get along with the PCs. If she doesn't it could seriously derail the module. This derailment is not the "a few things need to be readjusted on the edges" but the "PCs have totally not bought into the plot hooks" variety. The need for pure souls to change into Erinyes motif is cool (don't have BotD: Devils so unsure if this is canon or development but either way it's a neat gimmick. Would enjoy working that into the result of a knowledge check or as info from an NPC.

Well, most likely curses people. I mean Devils or at least whoever names them appear to be pretty literal minded when it comes to names.

Wow there are 28 new items and 4 new monsters!
I've never seen so much items in one module.

I was just asking for more details on the new devil.

Curse Devil:
Anathematize (Su) Once per day as a standard action, a curse devil can temporarily drop its natural invisibility to reveal its true, horrifying form. All creatures within 30 feet must succeed at a DC 16 Will save or become cursed as bestow curse; additionally, all creatures in the area must succeed at a second DC 16 Will save or have their memories of the event stripped as if by modify memory. The curse devil can resume its invisibility at the end of its turn as a free action. Whether or not the saves are successful, an affected creature is immune to that curse devil’s anathematize ability for 24 hours. If its natural invisibility is negated by other methods, the curse devil can’t use this ability. Those who can see invisible creatures are immune to this effect. The save DCs are Charisma-based.

Broken Curses (Ex) When a curse devil dies, any lingering curses or harmful effects caused by the devil are undone as if by a miracle spell.

Infernal Bond (Ex) When a curse devil is created by a lesser or greater devil, its creator forges a magical link between the curse devil and a mortal signed to—or implicated in—an infernal contract, such as a mortal who sold her soul to a devil or the first-born child of a mortal who was promised in an infernal bargain). Thereafter, the curse devil can always find the specified mortal as though guided by a locate creature spell with no maximum range. The specified mortal takes a –2 penalty on saving throws against the curse devil’s anathematize ability and its spell-like abilities.

Yup, there is a new undead monster named 'immured', which CR 3 and looks like zombie.

Aura of Breathlessness (Su) The agonized gasping of an immured displaces oxygen within 10 feet of it, automatically extinguishing nonmagical fires within this range. Breathing creatures within the aura must hold their breath or risk suffocation. Whenever an immured deals nonlethal damage to a creature holding its breath in the aura, the duration the target can hold its breath for decreases by a number of rounds equal to the nonlethal damage dealt. The immured cannot dismiss this aura.

Bound (Su) Immured are bound to the locations in which they died. Each hour an immured remains away from the tomb or building in which it died, it takes 1d6 points of damage that can’t be healed until it returns to its place of death.

Breach (Su) As a swift action, an immured can touch a nonmagical wall and open a spatial rift. The touched 5-foot section of wall (which can be up to 2 feet thick) effectively ceases to exist for 2 rounds, except for a dark, semisolid membrane that blocks line of sight through the rift. The immured can see, move, attack, or even drag a target through the rift without penalty. Other creatures can move through the rift, treating it as difficult terrain. After 2 rounds, the rift closes, pushing anything inside it into the nearest open space.

Seize (Ex) An immured can choose to deal nonlethal damage with its slam attack with no penalty on the attack roll. In addition, an immured that deals nonlethal damage with its slam attack can attempt a drag combat
maneuver against the target as a free action.

By dint of the name, I had suspicions that the immured would be an undead.

Ah, I didn't notice the list on the 1st page of the thread. That one (immured) is mine actually, and I knew it was going to be included, but was curious to see if they changed the name. :)

Can't wait to see the art!

The items (and at least two of the monsters) are actually from the 2014 Superstar contest, so you can see the original submissions. I haven't got my copy yet to see if there were any substantial changes.

As author of the poltergeist knot, glad it sounds interesting to you. Hope you like it!

The problem with so many cool items in one mod is that if you had to reduce it down to 2-3 on a PFS cert, how do you choose?

Hey just be glad you guys got your pdf. I got my "shipping soon" e-mail two weeks ago and still nothing. :P

(Note to any Paizo staff reading this: this is not a complaint. I understand there are strikes & other assorted things causing delays this month. I don't mind the wait. Stay awesome.)

Nate, Sara Marie posted that all subscriptions should have been shipped on February 18th and if yours hadn't, to contact customer service about it. You might start a thread up there asking about it, unless you know there's something you've added holding up your order.

Scarab Sages Modules Overlord

The short answer is we're not doing Campaign Cards, at least for a while.

Is there some reason the "miniatures-scale battlemap" isn't actually scaled to fit miniatures? That seems a really odd decision to me as there could easily have been a few rows and columns cropped. I don't really see the point of a gridded map where the gridded squares don't fit a typical mini. :/

I finally got to take a look at a finished copy and I just want to say how awesome Paizo's development team is. They improved leaps and bounds on the flaws I had in the adventure while preserving what I liked best about it and keeping the story intact. Huge, huge thanks to the whole team for bringing my ideas into polished fruition.

The art is amazing and the maps are freaking cool. The last encounter, especially, turned out way cooler than I could've imagined.

I thank everyone who voted and who has been excited to see the module come out. I've recently moved back to my home turf and look forward to running it. :)

Also thanks to Mike, Mikko and Robert for always being supportive and I'm glad you guys got crazy-good art to go with your monsters. Also glad I have some PFS scenarios to sniff out by you guys in the near future... ;)

Has anyone experienced problems opening this file on their iPad? Normally, I use GoodReader and have no issues with Paizo PDFs...but this one (adventure and maps) are thrift me for a loop. I can open in Acrobat (though super slow), but GoodReader just hangs.

On my PC, no problems...looking forward to diving into with my group :)

You aren't all playing games with nothing but goblins, gnomes, and halflings?

Okay, I'm kidding.

Mea culpa.

Scale is difficult to tell in proofs, and we just missed this. We're putting processes in place to try to ensure it doesn't ever happen again.

You *can* still use the map (I just stuck miniatures on my copy), but it's obviously sub-par.

My apologies.

No worries, Owen. No need to apologise for glitches - they happen from time to time. I was just worried there was a reason (because if so, I suspected it was a bad one :p)

As you say, it's still usable and no great issue.

Cheers

I have seen the comments on the slowness of the PDF and am experiencing it too.

I just tried to download the PDF again and it's still taking too long to turn pages.

Has anyone received word from Paizo on a fix?

I'm a new Path Subscriber (Giantslayer) and there have been no problems with my initial PDF.

I'm a little confused why this Fury PDF is not useable.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Has anyone tried running this from the perspective of the orcs? Where the PCs are all orcs and half-orcs in league with the devils?

If you ran

Spoiler:
a group of orc/half-orcs from a different tribe who'd been ravaged by the tribe depicted in the module

that would actually be pretty cool. Not to say you couldn't do it, you'd just have to do a lot of reworking.

Paper miniatures are now available for this module. You can find them here.

The only information we really have to go on is that "it may take several days for the PCs to gather all the homesteaders from around Aywll Stead."

and
"This little house sits on a level field about a half-mile from the road." (For D6, Grev's Homestead).

So if we assume thew 1/4 inch spur from the main road complex to the D6 marker is 1/2 mile, that gives us a scale of 4 miles/inch, or roughly 2 hours of travel per inch if on foot. That looks to match both the idea that these are semi-independent settlements outside of town, and that things like the traitor's camp are far enough away to prevent being casually discovered by folks around Arwyll's Stead.
