Finished it a few weeks ago, Just make all the NPC's have pro wrester voices. There's a few problems, but I loved it, one of the better 2e campaigns I've played thus far.

So far I am really enjoying it halfway through book one. Will let you know in 6-8 months

As a player who just finished this campaign 2 weeks go 6/1/24, I have some thoughts.

Back ground: I played through the first 2 books upon release and at times it was almost unplayable with 0 errata, a gm who came from another system (bet you can guess) and very little in the way of balancing. However that character (Elf/Fighter/arcane archer) managed to survive the end of book 2 and all those damn pillars and that meat grinder at the end.

That group split off, the world changed in 2020 and life went on for me. I always wanted to finish the end of the story as I had heard books, 3-5 in particular, were TERRIFIC.

A year and a few months ago I got that chance, I build a character who was starting in the same meat grinder (half elf champion (Pal)) and joined in.

Kicked myself it took a few years to finish what we started, I think 3-5 in Age of Ashes is supreme stuff game wise. really enjoyed plum near everything about them story and mechanics wise. Thankful I built my character with skills in mind.

Book 4 Fires of the Haunted City stood out as among the best Paizo singular book that I have played. Especially of 2nd edition. I have finished this, Quest, and AV. as well as played books 1-4 of Extinction Curse, 1-4 Blood Lords, 1-2 of AoE and just started Seven Dooms (stoked for that one and the upcoming stuff later this year). But yeah book 4 stood out as well as the faction sway in book 5. Just good stuff.

End of book 5 into 6 is perhaps the most unbelievable and grinding non stop 3 weeks of session combats with little break in it I have ever dealt with (my character wrapped in the chains of a Balor, at dying 4 (Diehard feat) after the death throes). to be honest I thought it was the toughest of the entire campaign, as we had two late joiners who were extremely new to the system, and frankly shouldn't have jumped in at that high of a level, but they managed to finish the story so what do I know.

Having hit a level 20 character now I can say, I miss the old level 20 in pf 1 or even 3.5. Even without the theory crafting you just felt way more powerful by then. That being said pf2 plays lightyears better/faster than those two systems.

I miss the darker content as well. But GM can make things as dark as they like I suppose, I tend to go a bit grim in anything that I run anyway as that is the type of story I personally enjoy as well as folk I play with. Not full on edgelord, but some bite for sure. AoA can accomodate that easily.

That is likely my fave AP book I've gotten to play. Hat tip to you. Terrific stuff.

Wasn't Treerazor mentioned in the pf1e ap Second Darkness? I might be misremembering.

They can be. Even Scoundrel.

No kidding, I am running a ruffian in QfFF and he is a monster at damage. Sure the barbarian outshines him sometimes on a crit, cuz I am limited to d8 on damage but the rogue slaps.

Acquisitives

We are almost halfway through book three and it's been quite fun. Druid though I should warn is godlike in this ap. So if you have a munchkin at the table that will be perfect for them classwise.

I am running a snow goblin rogue backup, character just in case, is his husband, a sorcerer. Both came to the tribe years ago after the horde camped in a cave infested with smilodons and they are what was left. Now they are eager to prove themselves and have found a new family among the peoples.

We are using a few variant rules namely the bonus progression one. But having a good time.

I do feel it is a bit forgotten, but I also feel like it is one of those people might go back and enjoy if they want something shorter.

They also had to rewrite significant sections of Rage of Elements to make it ORC compatable, review all their up coming adventures to try and reduce the OGL overlap, and redesign over half their monsters.

Patience, waiting a little longer so that they can do it right the first time is always preferable to constantly patching after the fact.

Also PC2 has the two classes that need the biggest overhaul. Alchemist needs to be redesigned from top to bottom to both work and be fun to play, and the Champion has to be scraped since its whole thing is "Alignment, the Class." Maybe it was a good idea to have the baseline rules decided and in print before you start a total rewrite of two core classes?

gonna miss the Champion, I for one am glad its waiting since everyone is adopting remaster and my champion is level 14 currently in AoA. Should be finished by the time the new one drops.

Acquisitives

It's quite fun actually. Good way to kill time in the office as it's dead dead in here.

On watch, and waiting should be good Vanessa Hoskins tends to write really fun stuff.

Not gonna lie, heard action rpg and was crushed, but I'll be darned if it doesn't look solid in extreme pre alpha build. They've been working on it for a time methinks. Having played AV not much looks recognizable. but that's alright too.

Snow Goblin precision Ranger, named Pust with the megafauna hunter background. Enjoying it as well. Backup is current NPC and hubby named Twotoes who is currently either a druid or witch in my head canon.

Originally had a Fleshwarp Rogue named Suture all ready to go, but new player to pf2 really wanted the rogue class, so I swapped out and cobbled together an ORC (yes for the announcement) fighter, named Dugo (Hungarian, means plug, cuz he's short see) Horsetooth with a pentiant for not seeing whats really going on around him, since he is not actively getting run out of the city, he tends to ignore the background. Works as a cart pusher, ended up in a group with three upper crust types and wondering why he got the invite.

Session one was last night and I only joined about 5 hrs pre game. Had a blast with it, good group.

Hey there. Assuring you this isn't a troll post.

I can give you a few examples of PF2 TPKs I've had, as well as encounters that were so difficult the party just gave up. Alas, no full details because some of them were a couple years ago now. Some of these were admittedly due to my learning the system - especially one of the Age of Ashes TPKs.
Putting in spoiler tags...
** spoiler omitted **

AoA:
Oh! The Barghast. It tore my group up (sole survivor) as the group was all 5e players, and frankly spent a great deal of every session complaining it wasn't 5e.
The complete TPK in Abomination Vaults was the
deets:
Giant Scorpion with an AOO and Grab, was a disaster.
We learned a good deal later on about actual tactics and using what we built as a team rather than trying to super hero everything solo. It is a tactical game after all. I did have one more character of mine die in AV
AV:
bloodworm
but managed to finish the AP after.

Yeah I dunno I have read the other stuff, Pf2 has made me and several others retrain how we play RPG's what works here in others won't here.

It is possible. Though troll posting doesn't typically include extensive details like party composition including stats, and a play-by-play. That is a lot of work to simply invent for the lols.

But troll post or not, I am fairly satisfied with the responses that are on this thread. It is good information to give to players or GMs who are experienced with PF1 and trying out PF2.

That's fair something just seems off though. Not really sure what. The replies are fine and you're probably right, still not seeing how the party wipes every three sessions though it's almost outside of probability

I ran a barbarian (Spirit) through AV, and used it quite a bit. It can be a bit desperate, but if you're looking to throw a hail mary of sorts and land a crit it can be awesome. Always kept a hero point just for that because I know it comes at a cost of fatigue. I wouldn't call it a mandatory feat by any means, but is a fun option.

I will admit it made me laugh reading it, I know one player in particular I've played with who would come up with that and somehow make it work. I think it's pretty good though might have to Dexter it up a little to make it work at a table.

I didn't realize the DND stuff had stopped novel wise. That's a shame some of my fondest memories growing up was the Dragonlance and FR books and what really got me interested in gaming as it was.

Picked up several of the PF tales during the Kobold Hoard sale and really enjoyed the first one I read (Winter Witch).

Theres conversions to 2e on Pfnexus for example; Crimson throne, although you still need to buy the ap to run it. Was thinking of picking it up but Im guessing its most of the skill checks, unique creatures, and magic items as you mentioned.

I don't believe there's any way to get the official maps in PDF except by buying the AP in PDF form, but if you check the Community Created Content topic in this very forum you will find a number of well-made fan created maps for Age of Ashes, several of which I've made good use of in MapTool.

Was thinking the same with the pdf's. Will dig around for that then. Thank you!

Acquisitives

Was curious if a pdf pf the maps are available for sale? Just purchased the last 4 books in physical form still waiting to be shipped. Was thinking of using a flat screen and a vtt for maps with minis and pawns. I think that'd be a bomb setup since I don't really care to draw maps.

Acquisitives

What went wrong the first time?

Acquisitives

Could do either. I played AV but ran my home group through the BB into TiO.
Option is yours tho that group having finished Otari I considered running to the vaults but it seems like a pain to prep tho others loved it (fun to play though). I found Troubles much easier to prep (70 hour work weeks) without much tweaking to the story.

Kind of ok with this because I did most of my business through email rather than a public forum, though I do see the other sides point. Still need a customer service forum I think, like the poor person getting charged 24 times. OOf.

Its the internet, people do stupid things all of the time for no other reason than they think its cool. People support games as a service which they never own and just keep spending money on it, I don't get it but the developers/publishers of them are getting wealthy on it as an example. People just do silly things.

Acquisitives

I remember seeing movie boxes at video stores (dating myself a tad here) when I was a kid that would have a label on them 'Banned in 40 countries' or similar. Usually shock films (Faces of Death was the big one) but it was a badge of honor or something. Wouldn't be surprised if that's still not a thing. Careful what you wish for I guess?

Interesting as someone in the transport industry it's as cheap as it is. You mentioned Walmart and Amazon those are GINORMOUS companies who are making up the cost in volume and customer base. Paizo doesn't have that. Considering most of the shipments are books (in my experience anyway I'm aware they sell more than that) that's a lot of weight.

P
