As a player who just finished this campaign 2 weeks go 6/1/24, I have some thoughts.
Back ground: I played through the first 2 books upon release and at times it was almost unplayable with 0 errata, a gm who came from another system (bet you can guess) and very little in the way of balancing. However that character (Elf/Fighter/arcane archer) managed to survive the end of book 2 and all those damn pillars and that meat grinder at the end.
That group split off, the world changed in 2020 and life went on for me. I always wanted to finish the end of the story as I had heard books, 3-5 in particular, were TERRIFIC.
A year and a few months ago I got that chance, I build a character who was starting in the same meat grinder (half elf champion (Pal)) and joined in.
Kicked myself it took a few years to finish what we started, I think 3-5 in Age of Ashes is supreme stuff game wise. really enjoyed plum near everything about them story and mechanics wise. Thankful I built my character with skills in mind.
Book 4 Fires of the Haunted City stood out as among the best Paizo singular book that I have played. Especially of 2nd edition. I have finished this, Quest, and AV. as well as played books 1-4 of Extinction Curse, 1-4 Blood Lords, 1-2 of AoE and just started Seven Dooms (stoked for that one and the upcoming stuff later this year). But yeah book 4 stood out as well as the faction sway in book 5. Just good stuff.
End of book 5 into 6 is perhaps the most unbelievable and grinding non stop 3 weeks of session combats with little break in it I have ever dealt with (my character wrapped in the chains of a Balor, at dying 4 (Diehard feat) after the death throes). to be honest I thought it was the toughest of the entire campaign, as we had two late joiners who were extremely new to the system, and frankly shouldn't have jumped in at that high of a level, but they managed to finish the story so what do I know.
Having hit a level 20 character now I can say, I miss the old level 20 in pf 1 or even 3.5. Even without the theory crafting you just felt way more powerful by then. That being said pf2 plays lightyears better/faster than those two systems.
I miss the darker content as well. But GM can make things as dark as they like I suppose, I tend to go a bit grim in anything that I run anyway as that is the type of story I personally enjoy as well as folk I play with. Not full on edgelord, but some bite for sure. AoA can accomodate that easily.

Kelseus wrote: They also had to rewrite significant sections of Rage of Elements to make it ORC compatable, review all their up coming adventures to try and reduce the OGL overlap, and redesign over half their monsters.
Patience, waiting a little longer so that they can do it right the first time is always preferable to constantly patching after the fact.
Also PC2 has the two classes that need the biggest overhaul. Alchemist needs to be redesigned from top to bottom to both work and be fun to play, and the Champion has to be scraped since its whole thing is "Alignment, the Class." Maybe it was a good idea to have the baseline rules decided and in print before you start a total rewrite of two core classes?
gonna miss the Champion, I for one am glad its waiting since everyone is adopting remaster and my champion is level 14 currently in AoA. Should be finished by the time the new one drops.

Originally had a Fleshwarp Rogue named Suture all ready to go, but new player to pf2 really wanted the rogue class, so I swapped out and cobbled together an ORC (yes for the announcement) fighter, named Dugo (Hungarian, means plug, cuz he's short see) Horsetooth with a pentiant for not seeing whats really going on around him, since he is not actively getting run out of the city, he tends to ignore the background. Works as a cart pusher, ended up in a group with three upper crust types and wondering why he got the invite.
Session one was last night and I only joined about 5 hrs pre game. Had a blast with it, good group.

Obese guy here, now wanting to play a plump elf because I'd never considered it. Did play a jacked one in Fall of Plaguestone however. I miss Vespa. Fun character to play.

breithauptclan wrote: It is possible. Though troll posting doesn't typically include extensive details like party composition including stats, and a play-by-play. That is a lot of work to simply invent for the lols.
But troll post or not, I am fairly satisfied with the responses that are on this thread. It is good information to give to players or GMs who are experienced with PF1 and trying out PF2.
That's fair something just seems off though. Not really sure what. The replies are fine and you're probably right, still not seeing how the party wipes every three sessions though it's almost outside of probability

I ran a barbarian (Spirit) through AV, and used it quite a bit. It can be a bit desperate, but if you're looking to throw a hail mary of sorts and land a crit it can be awesome. Always kept a hero point just for that because I know it comes at a cost of fatigue. I wouldn't call it a mandatory feat by any means, but is a fun option.

Congrats to Jim Butler, as for the rest......saw that coming as soon as the post was made.
Paizo is in good hands methinks.

If the group is new to 2e it's essential, frankly it will be for awhile there's some spiked encounters in there early.

Like, I get the Sweeney Todd reference, but come on. I will admit it made me laugh reading it, I know one player in particular I've played with who would come up with that and somehow make it work. I think it's pretty good though might have to Dexter it up a little to make it work at a table.

Cori Marie wrote: So the good news on this front is that there are new novels available on Pathfinder Infinite. Several even from established Tales authors. They aren't done in-house anymore but at least there's new stuff! Excellent, I really need to look into Infinite more often than I do.

I didn't realize the DND stuff had stopped novel wise. That's a shame some of my fondest memories growing up was the Dragonlance and FR books and what really got me interested in gaming as it was.
Picked up several of the PF tales during the Kobold Hoard sale and really enjoyed the first one I read (Winter Witch).

Theres conversions to 2e on Pfnexus for example; Crimson throne, although you still need to buy the ap to run it. Was thinking of picking it up but Im guessing its most of the skill checks, unique creatures, and magic items as you mentioned.

Decided to sub for this set, has a different vibe to it and it' getting me stoked to run it. Or play it, prolly end up running it though since no one ever wants to gm.

Kind of ok with this because I did most of my business through email rather than a public forum, though I do see the other sides point. Still need a customer service forum I think, like the poor person getting charged 24 times. OOf.

Interesting as someone in the transport industry it's as cheap as it is. You mentioned Walmart and Amazon those are GINORMOUS companies who are making up the cost in volume and customer base. Paizo doesn't have that. Considering most of the shipments are books (in my experience anyway I'm aware they sell more than that) that's a lot of weight.

So santa (wife) gave me a few early gifts, mainly because the last week has been a bloody nightmare. Best friend was in a really severe auto accident, so have been dealing with that. He got to keep his legs but 4 surgeries later and one to go. He's still in the hospital. Yes the first thing I did when I saw him Monday was call him Lieutenant Dan. He's very VERY fortunate. No one else involved. (blood sugar issue caused this)
She gave me a bottle of Whistlepig as an early gift. And last night we went on a date for the first time since March. Protip, Ruth's Chris is hecka expensive but also hecka good.
Anyway the kids are at Gam's house so we exchanged a little gift with one another and by Io! she gave me a bottle of Ardbeg 10, which is one of my absolute favorite expressions. Sure there's more expensive but it just suits me. She got a bottle of Jimmy Choo Fever and a tote bag.
Having coffee now and heading to hospital later to go see Mattchew and take him a bag of sundries and a gift as well.

Hell, he's confirmed a few. It's all true, we know it's true, stop wasting our time with this hunger for a nonexistent Reasonable Middle Ground like some escaped South Park character. I can't tell you how tiresome it got two months ago. Well there was the one time he said he couldn't be trans or homophobic because he has gay friends.... Yeah that's not good optics

Yoshua wrote: Just read more from Sara Marie and I'm seeing red right now. How is the person responsible for this fiasco still in authority? All I can come up with is the owners not only approve of his actions but whole heartedly endorse alienating their customer base at this point.
If you claim to stand with the workers and still defend the actions of leadership at this point I am done engaging with you.
Do your own googling. But seriously going to be buying Sara Marie another cup of coffee in the morning.
Eh I'm not, seeing her post kind of confirmed it wasn't an out of the blue thing. Though there was some snark from the upper crust....looks like she stirred up enough hornets and got the boot. Then again who knows. It's only been bits and pieces of he said/she said.

That being said I have found staying out of this particular forum is helpful, problem is it IS the most active these days.

Reached out earlier to a member of my table who’s a vet and wished him a happy Veterans Day as well. There’s a reason I defend this company warts and all and a lot of it is to do with him. From where he was when I got the idea to get around a table with new folks and get his mind off things (rough patch for sure) to now gaming all the time, and in therapy, it’s been a boon.
