Welcome, PatheticWretch! Vanguards seem pretty cool, very tanky with some adaptability during combat. If you're wanting to go tanky, I'll definitely go ranged. That seems to fit the biohacker better anyway. GM Cellion wrote: Same for you Ewok. That ikeshti seems great, but more 'legacy' would be good. Ah shucks, good point! That backstory is super low level. It's been a while since I made a high level character from scratch! How about something more like... The scholar has long since left the university, preferring to take her studies to the field. While at Qabarat, she joined the Xenowardens. After realizing how many newly discovered worlds were exploited immediately by corporations, she decided to work to protect new worlds and alien races. After all, if a new ecosystem is immediately destroyed or harvested by an unfeeling corporation then medicine and scientific research will not be able to advance and incorporate the discoveries available there. This would all feed her base drive to support the Ikeshti race through medical and scientific research. Within the scientific community she is something of a celebrity, known for her willingness to go anywhere against any opposition to make a new discovery. Though some professional organizations have condemned her willingness to examine new flora and fauna, whether she had the legal right to or if that belonged to a corporate entity, many others have praised her for it. As a member of the Xenowarden scientist corp, she has travelled to numerous newly discovered worlds in the name of cataloguing and science. As a tie to the Dead Suns AP, perhaps she visited Nejeor VI - or Istamak even - after the members of that adventure. Though she is not a zealot against capitalism or the government, she has been in conflict with many large organizations as they have attempted to pillage new worlds. (EJ Corp, Abadarcorp, Gideron Authority, Eox could be examples) She values science and progress over profits. Her work has led to the saving of native species of sentient and non-sentient life, research that supported the Pact Worlds protection over various planets. Maybe she even dabbled in the occasional bit of eco-terrorism to "encourage" corporations to go do work on another planet. How does that sound, is that a bit closer to the legacy we're looking for? I'd love feedback on how combative her history with corporations/governments should be. I can see her as either a pure scientist who has a distaste for violence or as someone who is hardcore and willing to do whatever is necessary to progress her studies. (Is she standing in front of the bulldozer, or did she tamper with the machine's fuel the night before?) The combative one has a lot of fun personality quirks in it, but might need to be toned down if we're working with Abadarcorp a lot.
What great ideas! The ikeshti precog and formian nanocyte definitely stood out to me as extra cool concepts. Thinking more on my biohacker idea... As an Ikeshti woman, she became a congregant many decades ago after surviving mating. Afterwards, she left Akiton to study at Qabarat University on Castrovel - going on to be a professor of Akitonian Genetics. She recently gained a minor in Neurochemistry. While working at the University, she met a group of adventurers who had just explored the famed Drift Rock. She is a staunch supporter of the Xenowardens, donating financially and with expert advice on occasion. Her work with the Qabarat University and the Xenowardens brings her out into the field, both on Castrovel and other outlying planets. The ikeshti people are always on her mind and her work is often centered around akitonian diseases and ecology. I think ranged works better for a biohacker, but it could be a feasible melee character if the party needs another front liner. Please let me know what you think!
Hello, everyone! I'm quite excited to join this game. I've played a decent amount of Starfinder, though I have done significantly more GMing than Playing the last two years (so I'm a bit unfamiliar with character options from recent releases). I've GM'd through Dead Suns, and would love to give my character some relation to the PC's who went through that AP. Partially for nostalgia, and partially to give my character a bit of the knowledge of the AP that I have out of character. The player's guide looks fantastic, I'll keep digesting it over the next few days. The house rules look sweet, too! I hadn't seen some of these before, they look like great improvements. I would also be down to try the squadron starship rules, I haven't played with those before! Starship via PbP is always an... interesting experience so I'm very open to new variations. --- I'm not committed to a character idea yet, but I've come up with a few! In order, I'm leaning towards: 1. A ranged biohacker. This NG female Ikeshti congregant is seeking to prevent “the disease of riveners” and find medical aids for her people. This character could be a Engineer, Science Officer, or Pilot.
Ah, the numbers matter less in that Shift 1 and Shift 3 are the same mechanically speaking. (I'm going to roll a D4 every time there's a "random" event in the Drift. If it's a combat, anyone sleeping will be caught unawares. If it's a starship thing, hopefully the Pilot on duty is decent at Piloting.) It won't make or break you no matter what you do. Just maybe provide a slight bonus or hindrance for whatever event is happening. Also, Del will be the Primary pilot. So anything you can see coming, starship combats, or Drift navigation will be done by her. It's just that initial surprise moment that will be handled by the pilot on duty. That will give everyone time to get to stations! Thanks for the list, Guess? ! Does this piloting schedule seem fine? Pilot
--- The party doesn't have any illicit cargo on board right now. Your party has definitely done their fair share of smuggling and/or buying a few extra crates at each stop that EJ doesn't know about for sale at the destination. The AP definitely gives you a few opportunities to do a little smuggling or independent trading on the side. Some of which it makes obvious, some of which are more subtle.
Headbutt, I'd love to join in welcoming you to our community! I want to add some words of caution (that's probably not the right word). When I was new, I also looked at some really excellent examples of RP and posting on the boards and in other people's threads. This was inspiring and a great example of what PbP can and should be. BUT, it also intimidated me, where I thought that my posts or RP wouldn't be "good enough" or that my posts wouldn't follow the posting conventions well enough. Don't let that happen to you! This is a very welcoming community who is happy to help you grow and learn the format. Just let your first GM know that you are new to PbP and PFS and they'll be happy to help.
Hmmmm... With some of the choices being thrown around, I'm stuck between my Swashbuckler and my Psychic. The swashbuckler is my preference, who is good at combat and has few little social skills. The psychic has knowledges and is good with enemies with minds. I'll wait to see how many casters we have before I decide!
This will be fun! As far as characters, it really seems like I need to spread my GM credit around more. Ha! Low tier:
High Tier
The witch and the cleric are both very combat centered. The swashbuckler and psychic are more well rounded. The wizard is illusion based, without summoning.
Sean Castor wrote: Personally I would like the boon descriptions organized by faction, rather than purely alphabetically. When I'm trying to read about what boons my faction offers, having to flip back and forth is irritating. PLEASE. I would love if they were alphabetical within their own faction. That would make shopping for a character much easier.

Ooh, thank you for inquiring on that. That scheduled Friday slot was nice last year.

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it! It sounds like a really fun one.
I actually came into the forums today to ask if you were going to organize another Special, Arc! It was a great time GMing last year. I've GM'd it before but would be happy to burn a replay to GM again. For those wondering on time, we ran it Saturday afternoon last year. Somehow Arc convinced the Paizo team to give us the majority of the available gaming space in the main room.
Redelia wrote: A second table was only allowed if one of a player's tables was Cosmic Captive or a non-Paizo table. ) @Redelia, or other Venture Person, (This is not a complaint, I'm just curious.) I get the desire to encourage players to venture into the other forums/platforms. But why was Cosmic Captive, specifically, included in the exceptions list?
To those who are interested in running any AP. You will find players here. Those campaigns are always highly sought after! Don't be intimidated by other people recruiting! Personally, I decided not to apply to these campaigns because of the upcoming holiday season. But I was super tempted! Aeon Throne looks AMAZING.
The story leads into it quite nicely. Not necessary to understand what's happening but does lead in directly. For mechanics/crunch/boons, Thursty said they are leading to something but it isn't in the Special. They felt like the Special was not available to everyone and shouldn't contain the capstone to that series of mystery boons.
Game Master S wrote: ...There is a free to download boon that can open them up via play. The process (and boon) are detailed in a Paizo Blog. Note: This boon only applies to games that end before next Friday. (Not start) So wrap up your games quick-like if you want credit towards it! Hopefully soon afterwards they will come out with the second version of that boon, but I don't believe one has been announced yet.
Wicked Brew wrote: Great map pack WMIGM. I kind of get how to set it up now but I experienced something while sifting through the slide/maps. When I am running games in drawings, I usually zoom in 200% and use track pad to navigate the image. When I do that in slides, I kept tending to slide into the next slide unintentionally. Is there any way to prevent that? I believe you're just scrolling to the edge of the page, and past a little. Unfortunately, there is no way to turn that "feature" off. We just have to be careful around the edges.
Hi there! I checked out your Gameplay tab, and this looks like a pretty sweet game, group and GM! I have three Level 2 characters to offer if you'll take me! A Wayang psychic, Abomination school.
I'm an experience PBPer, who can post multiple times per day. |
