I'd love to see Vanities get introduced into SFS. They are legit one of my favorite aspects of PFS and the boon system fits them remarkably well :)

Master crafter should either get the banhammer for being a trap option or get a tweak to work with SFS rules (you can make 2 items during your downtime?)

Please consider modifying the Dataphiles capstone so you can move vanity boons to another character from any Chronicle on that character, not just the tier 1-4 Stuff.

Dataphiles 4/5 ⦵⦵

I'm pretty sure that the 1-4 was intentional for a new level 1 to have. As, you know, a level 1 probably shouldn't have access to something a level 8 has.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I second pulling the starships out of the guide for a community use document. I also second more detailed ship stat blocks, including weapon range increments.

I second adding a subtotal to the chronicle sheet. I second adding more reputation lines to the chronicle sheet. In case no one has said it, I believe that an items bought/ items sold needs to be added to the chronicle sheet.

The Tetrad Certified Translator stats needs to be pulled forward to the section about buying gear. Even though the boon for it does mention that this item is available for purchase normally, it's position among the wayfinder boons makes this easy to overlook.

Personally I would like the boon descriptions organized by faction, rather than purely alphabetically. When I'm trying to read about what boons my faction offers, having to flip back and forth is irritating.

Sovereign Court 4/5 ⦵⦵⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Georgia—Atlanta aka The Masked Ferret

That was why I suggested that Vanities be allowed, because they add nothing but flavor to your character - no mechanical benefits.

Spoiler:
Specifically, the Surviving Companion boon from 01-23 Return to Sender I have heard several players wish that they could move that boon to another character - it does nothing mechanically, and is cool flavor.

Honestly, I don't see why most boons from higher level chronicles would do any harm on a Level 1. But, that is a philosophical question and one that would be argued, so I believe that Vanity boons, which only add flavor, should be movable.

I cannot think of any Tier 1-4 boons that I would care enough to move with the Dataphiles capstone.

3/5 ⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Virginia—Portsmouth aka Pogiforce

I agree with big Norse wolf, master crafter should either be omitted for being worthless or get an OP modification to do something. I vote the latter.

I am really glad to see this take off. Making my first character who was going to make sure they could self-sustain somewhat and this one jumped out as something I would want, only for me to realize same day how it didn't function in Organized Play :P

While I agree that at the moment there are on higher level boons that would do harm, as a planning for the future, it is best left to the 1-4 tier. Also, I struggled quite a bit with that capstone as well, trying to find something. Then I found it, Qabarat University. So I made my next character an Arcanamarium Scholar Technomancer.

3/5 ⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Virginia—Portsmouth aka Pogiforce

So I just looked at the capstone, and it's not just tier 1-4. It tier 3-6 as well.

Would Qabarat University be a legal pick for that though? Temple of the twelve technically isn't tier 1-4...

Sovereign Court 4/5 ⦵⦵⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Georgia—Atlanta aka The Masked Ferret

I forgot the 3-6.

A fair question that I asked myself. Then I realized that it is definitely within the realm of what was intended, so I stopped caring about the technicality.

Question from another thread:

VampByDay wrote:
So there is a boon for the dataphiles that lets you get bonus credit for doing games online. Is that only for Playing games online? What if you GM? Has this been addressed?

also, can we get more "Vanity" boons purchasable with fame? Also, Maybe some additional boons similar boons to what were in the PFS Field Guide?

This is what I'm hoping for. I get that the Field Guide and Primer likely didn't exactly bring in a ton of $ as products, but I love them and the Vanities :D

I've been told by several GM's that this line only applies to permanently dead characters. The previous two paragraphs talk about player death though, in a non-permanent way. If this line is meant to only apply to permanently dead characters, can we change this sentence to star with "A permanently dead character's...". If it's meant to apply to all characters that die, can we change it to, "Whether a character is brought back to life using one of the above methods or not, a dead character's..."

I'm not so sure of that. Boons on things that are not scenarios are typically much more powerful. By your interpretation I could raise a dataphile to tier 4, then give the Skittershot skittermander boon to a fresh level one without actually burning my skittermander boon. If they really meant any boon from an adventure level 1-6 they would have said so, but instead they specifically call out tier 1-4 adventures, and tier 3-6 adventures. Looking at it raw, the Chronicles for the first three books of Dead Suns would not be valid.

PLEASE. I would love if they were alphabetical within their own faction. That would make shopping for a character much easier.

Much more powerful..?

Sure, use a capstone boon to get another skittermander. It's not like you can't get one from playing, GMing, and from using the replay granted by SS Jadnura any number of times.

But your right, the boon that you get from playing around 8 levels of scenarios would be too powerful if it could do that...

But your right, a capstone boon giving you access to a non-core race is too powerful...
*awkwardly points to the Wayfinder boon*

But your right, a capstone boon giving you access to a starship is too powerful...
*awkwardly points to the Exoguardian boon*

*Begins looking at all the other capstone boons*

You know, your right. That is so much more powerful than any other capstone boon...

You may be offended by how I just presented my point. Fair. But I would counter that your statement (which I harped on) was so ridiculous that it truly warranted my response. I claim this due to the fact that it was clearly stated without much thought. Now, you may jump to the conclusion that I am insulting your intelligence. That is not the case. I am merely pointing out that you made a nonsensical claim.

3/5 ⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Virginia—Portsmouth aka Pogiforce

I was comparing adventure path/ special boons to scenario boons, not capstone boons.but if you want to intentionally misrepresent what I said so you can build your argument off it, that's your choice.

The exoguardian ship is kind of lame. It's good at tanking but depending on your tier, it can't even do that well. At Tier 2 it's the worst ship in the fleet by far. Tier 6 and 8 are mostly limited fire weapons so if a fight drags out, which tanking tends to make happen, you burn out of resources. Tier 10 and 12 has some very powerful forward guns, but its Manueverability is only average, it's computer provides no bonuses on rolls and in fact incurs a -2 penalty to Computers. At ALL tiers.

As for Wayfinders, Not everyone wants to play a cockroach. I personally like the Ghibrani, but many players told me they don't want a cockroach character.

Meanwhile El Seebo just gives you some extra fame at 20 rep, and cheaper fame costs based on distance. Woop de Doo. The only cool thing about this capstone is the potential of getting written into the campaign, but that's not guaranteed. The Instructor boon is more mechanically useful.

Jadnura let's you convert one of your boon slots into an ally boon. Which from my experience is one of the least used boon slots. Again, woop dedoo.

Acquisitives, gaining ten reputation in a faction is... Nice, I guess?

Just because a few of the factions have lit capstones doesn't mean all of them do, and even those are a matter of perspective and personal preference. So my statement wasn't nonsense, you just reacted to it in a aggressive way unnecessarily because you disagree with it. Just because you disagree doesn't make it absurd. I find your loose interpretation of explicit wording absurd.

And sarcasm doesn't invalidate my point that, as written, the boon disqualifies Dead Suns 1 2 and 3 because the boon SPECIFICALLY calls out chronicle sheets tier 1-4, and Chronicles tier 3-6. Or a boon purchased reputation tier 2 or lower. None of which applies to Temple of the Twelve. You can't just decide on your own the boon applies to something that the language of it clearly excludes. And there are boons out there tier 1-4 and tier 3-6 that are worth getting over again. Things like Savior of Tasch, or the Mutated boon. A first level character with a fly speed is pretty incredible.

If they intended it the way you described, then there's some feedback for Thursty: the boon needs a rewrite. Otherwise, it's pretty clear as to what is a legal choice.

Dataphiles 4/5 ⦵⦵

Meh, we seem to read it differently.

I may have gotten a bit excessive with my tangent on capstone boons but the point still remains, none of the possible boons from 1-6 (even considering APs) is more powerful than all of the other capstone boon effects. Which I believe to be relevant to the debate.

As for you previous point, I would like an example of an AP boon that is more powerful than any 1-6 scenario boon.

3/5 ⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Virginia—Portsmouth aka Pogiforce

Spoiler:
The sunrise maiden is an extremely competent ship compared to others in the same tier for which it's available.

Qabarat University membership is basically extra skill power with two fame stapled onto the end of it.

Cheaper purchases and the Crypt Warden isn't bad.

The first two in particular are universally desirable. The last one is still good, with certain players strongly favoring it. I can only think of 3 scenarios in the same level ranges with boons that are similarly desirable.

And I still find it arguable that the other capstone abilities are even remotely more powerful, as you say. But I've already explained my reasoning behind that.

Not before the official release date shown on the product page.

Starfinder Society ships are listed as having crew of 4-7. Technically, this would mean that a 4 player party that suffers a character death would not have the minimum crew and would be unable to operate the ship.

I believe it would be best for the SFS ships to instead have "Complement: 1-7"

Sovereign Court 4/5 ⦵⦵⦵⦵ Venture-Agent, Georgia—Atlanta aka The Masked Ferret

Please consider adding a Slow track option in. I have characters I would love to play longer, but are leveling out of stuff.

Yes, I could create new characters. I currently have credit on... 23 numbers. But I would like, if possible, to keep playing the same character.

Acquisitives

I figure this is too late, but some things to consider:

APs that provide 3 XP also providing 3 downtime days (particularly helpful for boons that require checks during downtime like AP 7).

On Society Shepherd, clarify whether you can get this credit even if you are playing with a different character.

I love the move toward personal boons that can *also* be used unslotted. Not sure this affects anything in the guide, but very helpful for those with permanent personal boons.

Dark Archive 5/5 Venture-Lieutenant, United Kingdom—England—Coventry aka terry_t_uk

I am going to post this here (It may have been asked and addressed previously but my search-fu is poor).

Can we clarify how chronicles are allocated when a pre-gen is played. P7 of the guide says "You must choose to which of your characters the credit will be applied at the beginning of the adventure. Credit from a 1st-level pregenerated character can be applied only to a 1st-level character. Credit for playing higher-level pregenerated characters must be applied to a Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild character of a lower level than the pregenerated character or to a 1st-level character"

I have not noticed any rules on how to apply to a lower level character (I assume L1 gets 720 credits)

Page 8 states "You may apply credit for an adventure once your Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild character reaches the level of the pregenerated character used to play through it"

These two sentences seem to contradict each other. Can we get this clarified? It is also possible I cannot read and the answers are contained within the Guide, in which case I apologise for wasting your time.

Thanks.

Terry

There's no contradiction there

Will be applied to= assigned, this chronicle is going to 705

applied to: they CAN"T apply the credit/fame/xp until they hit the right level

3/5

They are not contradictory, they are just different steps.

Step 1: Choose the character the credit will be applied to. The character must be lower level than the pregen you are playing (or 1st level).

Step 2: Apply the credit. If the character is level 1, the credit is applied immediately. If the character is higher level, the credit is not applied until the character reaches the level of the pregenerated character. In this case, add a note to the chronicle for it to be applied later.

Example wrote:
For example, if you played an 8th-level pregenerated character, you would apply the credit once your character reaches 8th level.

It's going through post-development processes (layout/copyfitting/editing) which are all departments that have a lot of stuff going on right now. That being said, I'm not kidding when I say Soon™! :D
