Feel free to discuss character options. Pretty much everyone has a range of characters in tier (3-7).

![]() |

Jim, do you have a preference on subtler?
If we play in the lower subtier, I'd like to play one of the following:
Mishka Krieger - NG Kellid-Tian Male Vigilante (Avenger)-3
Ripley the Grippli - Alchemist (Grenadier)-4
Santiago del Fuego - NG Male Ifrit Urban Barbarian-2/Dawnflower Dervish-2
If we play in the higher subtier, I'd like to play one of the following:
Skye, Shaman of the Lyrune-Quah, CG Human Male Shaman-6
Tomás Telvurin N Dhampir Male Vigilante (Warlock)-5/Medium-1
"Long" Beau LG male aasimar cleric of Erastil-7
Slick NG Snowcaster Elf Male Bladebound Hexcrafter Magus-7
Thorne "Mudbone" Frallino NG Male Half-Orc Skald (Fated Champion)-6
Finally, my out-of-tier option is:
Mick von Jaeger - NG Male Human Brawler (Wild Child) 1/Hunter 4

![]() |

I don't have a preference for either subtier. I will say that since this is Season 10, a balanced party with good social and other skills along with good combat capability is essential. This ain't no straight dungeon crawl.
The scenario synopsis does say you're going into the Mwangi, so there's some opportunity for thematic characters along that line, too.

EwokBanshee |

This will be fun! As far as characters, it really seems like I need to spread my GM credit around more. Ha!
Low tier:
Witch 3
Cleric 2/Fighter 1
Swashbuckler 3
Psychic 3
High Tier
Wizard 7
The witch and the cleric are both very combat centered. The swashbuckler and psychic are more well rounded. The wizard is illusion based, without summoning.

Gummy Bear |

Of my characters in tier that I'd like to play, this is what I've got:
Thundering Bull (Siegebreaker Fighter 4) - fights and cooks
Faust Alhazred (Haunt Collector Occultist 5) - glass cannon and does knowledges NOTE: Is a Dhampir. He can heal himself, but might cause problems for a channel focused cleric. This would be my preferred choice.
Other characters I have in tier are either in another game, or I have unofficially retired. Willing to be flexible if my two options prove problematic.

Lady Ladile |

*squeezing in between con sessions*
Gummyyyyyyy~
Given the scenario blurb and that it seems like it might be a more somber, serious sort of affair, I think my primary choices would be:
Callah, Water's Voice - 3rd Level Undine Shaman (Speaker for the Past)
*or*
Fran Belmont - 5th Level Human Witch (Dimensional Occultist)
While Minna, Corona, and Nina can certainly be serious when the situation calls for it, these two options are a bit more reflective/wise in personality.

Hello,
Thank-you for the invitation, GM Nomadical!
I am currently in Seatac airport on my way back home -- only 22 hours to go! So I won't be posting (meaningfully) in that time.
The only PC I have in-tier is my casty druid 4, Aeliah -- she's plenny serious. As the Dungeon magazine iconic druid, she thought she was getting the iconic gig with Pathfinder...
She and Lini are NOT friends!
GM Lorenzo, you GM'd Shattered Shield for Gervase my ranger last weekend.

![]() |

Small world, Gervase!
With all this talk of serious Pathfinders, I'm feeling a little contrarian. Perhaps something whimsical to lighten the mood?
Actually, Mishka Krieger, my level-4 Vigilante (Avenger) might be a good fit. He's very serious.

![]() |

Dang, I wish I'd know you were still in town. I left Seattle today and just landed in Anchorage.
Gummy's Occultist would bring a unique set of capabilities that without spoiling might come in handy.
We have 5 so far plus numbat. She was concerned about her bandwidth and possibly having to slow down a lot around Origins and GenCon both of which she's attending. I'm waiting on a reply from CariMac which I sent via email. I'll try her by PM just in case.
I'll put up a pre-intro setting post in Gameplay, and y'all can intro characters once you pick.
Thank you all for being my guinea pi..., I mean, for honoring me with your presences.

Dang, I wish I'd know you were still in town. I left Seattle today and just landed in Anchorage.
Yeah, a couple of lazy days to catch up on sleep, do laundry and buy presents for the kids has been great.
Ironically, I caught up with a mate buddy I worked with in Oz years ago for lunch at Sharp's today. He and his wife currently live in Anchorage ;)

EwokBanshee |

Hmmmm... With some of the choices being thrown around, I'm stuck between my Swashbuckler and my Psychic.
The swashbuckler is my preference, who is good at combat and has few little social skills. The psychic has knowledges and is good with enemies with minds. I'll wait to see how many casters we have before I decide!

![]() |

If it helps (this is Lady L), I decided to play this character who is, like many of my characters, built more towards support/utility. I'm still out of town at a con until late tomorrow night so if other people are ready to go, please don't feel obligated to wait for me. I'll jump in and catch up once I'm home and (potentially) rested :)

![]() |

I have about 2k to spend, and idk what to spend it on. This character has nothing for swarms and only a crossbow for ranged (I'd include constructs, but I find that bane at-will is enough to deal with them). I like to think he has general melee covered.
Any suggestions for items on how to deal with ranged and/or swarms effectively? My default will be Alchemists' Fire swarms. I frankly find them lackluster at this level, but don't know what I could replace them with :( For ranged, I might sink 2pp on a Composite (+4) Longbow (Darkwood too if it fits in the cost limit, but I'd have to run the numbers again).
EDIT: GM, when you get the chance, would you remove my "NINJA DOT PLACEHOLDER!" alias from the campaign please?

![]() |

Welcome aboard, everyone! We're solidly low-tier with the 5 characters checked in so far.
I have 2 invites out that went unanswered. Numbat said she'd join us, but I sent her a botched link, so I've reached back out to her just a bit ago. Even if she brings a level 7, it'll still be low tier.
Please fill out the slide (that I totally stole from our fine Lady Ladile - Thanks!) with your info, and drop a token there too. Marching order isn't important at this point.
I'll post the briefing later today.

![]() |

This is Krieger's Vigilante alter-ego, the Foreigner.
Both icons and PC admin data entered on the slide.

![]() |

FWIW, I've been pronouncing the name of the subject Pathfinder Agent Stuinvolk as "Stew-in-folk." It wouldn't be Stoy... because that would have been spelled Steuinvolf ("eu" in German is pronounced "oy.")
A reminder that Paizo has alerted the PBP Venture Critters, and they us in turn, of expected maintenance.
Paizo.com will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Monday, June 3, starting at 9:00 AM Pacific time.
Site downtime is expected to up to an hour.
If the site doesn't come back up, or this becomes rolling crashes like last year, I have everyone's email addresses just in case.

![]() |

FWIW, I think Carimac has out-of-state relatives visiting her this weekend, which is probably why she hasn't been able to get back to you, GM Nomadical.

![]() |

If we are able to spend a little money on our way out the door, Faust will spend 250gp on 10 Alchemists' Fires and 2pp on a Darkwood Composite (+3) Longbow.
EDIT: He is also out of Potions of ILW's, so he'll grab 4 of those for 100gp.

![]() |

I'm back and rested and have spent the requisite time with loved ones who missed me (the weirdos) while I was away on my con adventure! Thank you for your patience :)

Incredibly Handsome Mwangi Man (IHMM) needs his own...something. Scenario, movie, tv series, something.
YAAAAAAAAAS!

![]() |

Well, he isn't part of the scenario, just some window dressing I added. I'll see if I can't do more with him....
But I suppose if we changed how his moniker is abbreviated, it could be iHMM - or the Apple branded version of our favorite online play Venture Captain.
I'll put a gameplay post up shortly closing out the briefing, but then I'll be offline for about the next 36+ hours sleeping and flying. Sorry.
Please don't forget to fill out Slide 2. Per the instructions of the aforementioned Much Beloved Venture Captain, I will be reporting this session early.

![]() |

I'll be sure to update the slides tonight.
I'm actually excited about your weird unique work schedule, Nomadical. It'll be a slower paced game, but we will have lots of chances to interact and build good posts!

![]() |

No worries GM; I was being silly about IHMM because I thought the designation was funny :)
And whoops, I'll go fill out my Slide info now, sorry!
*edit* I need permission to edit the slides, d'oh.

![]() |

Aeliah, at least on my end, part way through your post are three characters in ooc text. A moon, a star, and a sun. Do those mean anything or were you just breaking up your post?
It’s really just to break up my post, Faust.
Though in this case I chose a moon, star and sun to represent nightfall and dawn occurring between the two paragraphs.

![]() |

How on earth are you able to import colored images into or use colored 'font' in your text?
Always looking for new tricks.

It was all done through trial-and-error ;)
I am using Word 2013, running on Windows 8.1 but I'd be surprised if it didn't work on other versions as well.
So on the top ribbon go INSERT → SYMBOL → MORE SYMBOLS
There will be a picklist window in the top left. Left-click the ↓ ‘down arrow thingy’ and scroll up and down until you see a font you want to try. There are HEAPS to choose from. My faves are MS Gothic and Segoe UI Symbol.
Now, not all of these symbols work on Paizo’s messageboards. Also I have seen some show up fine on a Windows based PC but not on IPad and vice versa. It’s a bit of trial-and-error to see what works and what doesn’t, but you’ll work out the patterns pretty quickly with practise.
Hope this helps!

*edit* I need permission to edit the slides, d'oh.
I've got a quick minute. Callah, please try again with the link in the header of the campaign. I double checked it, and re-pasted it, and it should allow editing. Of course, they're my slides, so I can't exactly test it. Or can I?
Nice tip, Aeliah! Thanks!
I'll put up a short gameplay post to address questions asked. Stuinvolk's response will come during my next layover, in about 24+ hours.
Your interactions with Stuinvolk use a modified Discovery/Influence system. You will need to Discovery about him, his moods, his triggers, etc. Then Influence him to help him recover, maintain stability, react appropriately in tense situations, etc. I'll spell out more in his upcoming response post.

![]() |

The new URL doesn't work. :( It leads to a non-existent address. When you click the Share button on the Slides, make sure it says that we can Edit. It defaults to View.

I've got a quick minute ...
O.O
But who's flying the plane???

Multitasking? :D ;)

Summary of the last 36-ish hours.
Got up at 0300L in Tokyo, and since sunrise was around 4, I went for a run before my 0630 report time in the hotel lobby. Flew a short flight to Incheon (Seoul) Korea, and went to the hotel.
I had 12 hours from block in (when we park the jet) to block out (push back from the "gate".) Got to the hotel, started laundry in the in-room machine, and while it ran, I wrote the "quick minute" posts. As soon as laundry was done, went to sleep for about 6 hours before wake up to go fly again.
Flew 2 hours from Seoul to Wuxi, China, off loaded cargo, on loaded new cargo, and flew 9 hours to Anchorage, Alaska. Internet thru the phone on the ground in China wasn't really adequate for making extended posts.
I'm supposed to have 48 hours here in Anchorage before I fly back to Korea. That could change, but I'll make the most of it. FWIW, it's 11 PM here, the sun is still up, and my body clock is completely whacked.
Gameplay post coming....

As I mentioned briefly before, this scenario uses a modified version of the Discovery & Influence rules. You are attempting to Discover what kinds of things you can do to Influence Stuinvolk’s healing. In game terms, there will be times I ask for Empathy checks. At those times, you can try to:
1) Discover something about Stuinvolk (choose 1):
a. Analyze him using Sense Motive.
b. Discover his Strengths also using Sense Motive.
c. Discover his Weaknesses using Linguistics or Profession (Herbalist).
d. Physic spell casters may use the Read Aura occult skill unlock using Perception to Read Emotional Aura (Occult Adventures, page 197.)
2) Influence him using something that you all have Discovered.
a. No matter how many of you speak to him, only one check to influence may be made during any individual Empathy check opportunity.
b. There may be other ways to Influence him in any given Empathy opportunity, and I will provide that information at the time I ask for the checks.
When attempting to Discover something, each of you can attempt one check, specifying which of the three things you are attempting to Discover (Analysis, Strengths, or Weaknesses).
These Empathy checks may happen at very strange times. You are of course free to roleplay these as much as you wish, but remember, only One of you may make an attempt to Influence during a particular Empathy check opportunity.
There is also a separate mechanic which requires a daily Diplomacy check to shift his attitude. How well you are doing on your Empathy checks to Influence his healing will provide bonuses (or penalties) on these daily Diplomacy checks. Although these Diplomacy checks use the normal rules for shifting someone’s attitude, they are really about shifting his attitude toward himself and his situation, although how he feels about those will affect how he behaves towards you.
Empathy checks will be requested when required. Daily Diplomacy doesn’t start until you reach the…. Well, let’s just say I’ll let you know.

Profession (Herbalist): +0
Psychic Spellcaster: I can roll this, but the DC for an Emotion reading is 20+HD on a Perception check. Unless that is modified, I'm probably better off doing a Linguistics check. Willing to give it a go though, it sounds really fun!

I think Aeliah will be aiding, assuming it’s allowed.

![]() |

Yes, sorry I left that out. Aiding is allowed, including on the Discovery, Influence, and Daily Diplomacy checks.
If I'm understanding what I've learned correctly, Callah has deduced that the Heal skill can also be used to influence our friend.
You got it, Callah! There are several different skills and a couple of other tips or specific actions that you can use to gain Influence during the Empathy checks. Heal is one of them.
It’s a complicated set of multiple checks, some of which feel overlapping. Don’t worry about it too much at this point; I’ll walk us through it. (I hope….)

![]() |

In accordance with the dictates request of our Supreme Overlord Venture Captain GM Hmm and her Esteemed Minion Venture Agent Lady Ladile, I've pre-reported this session. If you didn't hear about their request, here's the post:
GM Hmm's post re: early reporting and PF1 replays
Yeah, I know it says Paizo will pull the data in "mid-July," but I didn't want to forget or have an issue with my travels keeping me from doing it at the last minute. I can amend the reporting if I kill you all BWAH-HA-HA untoward and unfortunate events occur.
It's being reported thru my personal event code, not the OSP, because it was invitation only so it doesn't qualify for OSP.

![]() |

I’m giving Callah a +2 circumstance bonus for the song which puts her over the DC. She senses from his confession that attempting to use guilt, shame, or similar tactics when influencing him will incur a -4 penalty on the Influence check. You’ve succeeded at learning the only information covered under Strengths.
Stuinvolk’s question about “moving quietly” is another separate opportunity to earn Influence. If you all agree to attempt to move quietly, and at least half of you succeed on a Stealth check while moving during the day (tomorrow in game time), you will gain Influence.
Aeliah and Forrest can still try Discovery/Influence rolls before or during camping for the night.
If it’s any consolation, Faust, you wouldn’t have hit the Linguistics DC with that roll either.
I’ll post again tonight before I sleep. Then I’ll be sleeping/flying/sleeping/flying again for about another 36 hours. Although I might have time for a post in there, I make no guarantees.
