Aonprd is paizo's official prd and has all the rules.

Hey all, it has been quite sometime been thinking about jumping back into running PbP again and wanted to know if anyone would be interested in playing a full run of Season six (6) or Season (7)?

Or maybe playing in a Core run of the Adventure Path: Shattered Star 61-66?

I would be down for any of the above.

- INACTIVE (finished campaign) -

It's a really really impressive bundle.

GM, could you create a discussion thread please?

So it looks like we have a Cleric, a Fighter, a Rogue, and a Barbarian. I want to try a Wizard/Cleric. I'll see what I can come up with.

EDIT: I forgot this was the level 1 scenario. I may roll a wizard, or I may roll a ranger.

I don't see when you're planning to start.

Regardless, I do have a level 1 character that I used at GenCon (although if I have time, I'll roll up a different character). I don't have that character in a text stat-block form (it's still on paper) but I do have it.

Here are my "top three" previous characters.

Interesting thoughts!

I like the character attribute method just fine. I'm not sure it's perfect, but I think I like it better than point buy. It's certainly easier and faster. I could never do point buy without using one of the "calculators."

Having played the game, I think it's *much* easier to play and much more accessible. My cousin's wife was in two of our games and her words were something like "Pathfinder was too complex for me, but I actually understood what was going on in the Pathfinder Playtest." It's true they are using keywords for conditions and actions (Stupefied 1, Staggered 2, etc. and Strike, Stride, etc.) but most of them are a) easy to explain thanks to the simple action economy and b) won't be hard to remember after you've played a few times.

The new action economy (and probably some of the other changes) have made combat go much faster and smoother.

Overall I think the system is much simpler and much more self-consistent. I'm very pleased.

My gripes are more around how at level 1 you get a class feat and an ancestry feat and that's all. Since you get no race features without spending ancestry feats, and your class abilities are *mostly* tied up in class feats, that means that you actually get *fewer* feats as a level 1 character. Take a Human Fighter, for instance. In PF1, a Human Fighter would get some Fighter abilities (including a bonus feat; neither here nor there with the other changes to Fighter) and two feats that could go to whatever you want. So, for instance, you could get Power Attack using your Fighter feat, and then take Improved Initiative and some kind of Background feat. As a human you would get the Skilled racial feature as well.
In the Pathfinder Playtest you can spend your Ancestry feat to get the equivalent of Skilled, and you can spend your Class feat to get, say, Power Attack, but that's all you get.
I suppose you do get a skill feat from your Background, but the point is that the free-floating, add to whatever-feat-tree-you-want feat is gone.
On the other hand, feat trees are largely gone also. There are still some 1-feat dependencies, mostly in the class feats, but those aren't too bad.
My other gripe is that at some levels you get a "general" feat that you can't use to get more Class feats. You can get more Ancestry feats through it, but only because they made a General feat that explicitly lets you pick an Ancestry feat.

All in all, pretty minor things to be unhappy about. I made an effective* Archer Bard via Fighter multiclassing. I am pretty sure if I wanted it to be more Bardy, it could be fairly effective* using just a shortbow.

*effective enough for me :)

Update: I have noticed that when I do this and I'm at the bottom of a thread and I click in blank space, it appears to click one of the buttons at the top of the page (which are not even visible!). Post carefully or you'll lose your text!

Is the mobile layout totally wrecked for anyone else right now? I'm using Firefox for Android.

Is anyone else going to be starting a game after GenCon? I'm not aware of any open slots right now.

I’m glad to hear that. The PFS forums are all doom and gloom about how no one will want to start new characters now. Since I have at least one new character that I will be starting, I am glad to hear that!

(I need to make something vaguely dragon-themed with a future draconic familiar. Just not sure what.)

Do y’all have suggestions for me for something fun and charismatic?

Hmm

I'm continually having more character ideas, and lately I have had several for CORE. But I am trying to resolve to *finish* more of my current ideas before starting any more.

Does anyone have an idea of how much xp is available in PFS? And will be by the time PF1 scenarios stop coming out?

- INACTIVE (finished campaign) -

I'm definitely liking what I'm seeing so far.

- INACTIVE (finished campaign) -

I'll keep creating PF1 characters for a while yet. There are certainly several CORE character ideas I haven't had a chance to explore yet.

I expect to be playing 1e, 2e, and Starfinder for years yet thanks to the wonderful players and GMs in these awesome lodges.

- INACTIVE (finished campaign) -

Reminder to all GMs: when recruiting for games or calling the players that signed up to check in *make a post on the recruitment thread*. With the change to the rules around here, some of us do not check the gameplay and discussion threads regularly. Thank you.

bummer. I would have caught that one if it had been cross posted in the recruitment thread. I assumed all this activity was RP and didn't look into it until just now. Consider me a backup please

Do we have to GM a game this season in order to apply that to future seasons?

For example, I have not GMed a game since the new season started, and might not GM one until the next season. Will I be able to put a game from next season as my first game on that list?

  • wand of CLW
  • +2 strength-rated MWK composite darkwood longbow
  • wand of shield is great, but better with a spring-loaded wrist sheath
  • save for a cloak of resistance (1k)
  • or a +1 AC enhancement to your armor (1k)
  • save for a +1 enhancement to that greatsword, so you can hurt ethereal stuff and bypass some DRs! the +1 to damage is piddly but being able to hurt certain creatures means you don't have to turn and run when you see them. Although if you have a scroll of magic weapon you could whip that out, I suppose (2k)

I see that Pathfinder Tales novels are no longer usable for a reroll. Sad day for me since I just bought one for that purpose at GenCon.

As a primarily mobile-via-wayfinder poster I think I would find that difficult. Does Mythweavers have RSS support?

For all interested in the Deepmarket Deception: I am currently wrapped up in some pretty hectic RL stuff.. mostly an accelerated RN program. This week and next are absolutely brutal for me, and I really don't want to start off with slow, haphazard posting from the GM. I am also running another game that is likely to wrap up within that timeframe, further extending my ability to focus correctly on your game. That said, the response has been incredible and much more than I expected! I will figure out what I am going to do with all of you, and then get the game rolling as soon as I am able to commit to the time yall deserve. Please be patient with me, and I will see to everything shortly. -Posted with Wayfinder

Perfect news for me; hopefully Serpent's Rise will be done by then and I can join in.

Well... Maybe. It seems fine when thinking about a widely known language like French, but I think a line would need to be drawn somewhere. One language only is as good a line as anything else.

I have rarely, if ever, had a problem playing with players (and GMs) who were not masters of English. Oykiv, for instance, is an example of a good GM whose English is not perfect. If there is a communication issue the players will tell you.

You'll need a "digital" form of your character sheet (NPC-style stat block is fine--see my PFS aliases for examples) and you don't need to scan your chronicles... Until a GM asks to see them. It may be more convenient to scan them ahead of time.

I like keeping all of my chronicle sheets and stat blocks together in a folder in evernote.

I'm sure EndlessForms could update the Campaign Info tab. No one looks at Page 1 anyway, I imagine.

My request would be that both Recruitment and Gameplay be in-character. The former for in-character recruiting, the latter for in-character chatter.

That said, the current arrangement works just fine for me so I don't care if it is unchanged.

It's true that people often post OOC stuff in the gameplay thread. :-/

But FWIW, I thought the GMs posting like that wasn't too big a deal since they were only breaking the third wall a little bit and were speaking as if they were there in the lodge.

You'll want to dot the gameplay and recruitment threads as well. That's where most of the recruiting typically takes place. The gameplay thread is like an open role play thread for the Flaxseed lodge, so players typically make a Role play post in character in the gameplay thread.

I once played with a Witch and Monk/Witchguard that used Lookout. He could kill and disarm stuff--she could put it to sleep. They ended some fights that would have been really hard (like an eidolon and her would-be invisible summoner) before they could even get started

be warned, folks, Devil We Know Part 4 at tier 3-4 is the most difficult PFS scenario I've ever played. We nearly TPKed twice, and then finally did TPK at the end. The only reason we still have our characters is that our foe kept us alive to see a disease play out, so we spent PP to get rescued.
