Kingmaker 10th Anniversary Campaign Begins!

Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Nearly a decade ago, the Kingmaker Adventure Path helped lead the way with an open-ended "sandbox" style adventure that encouraged exploration and conquest in a rugged wilderness. Its open-world narrative and kingdom-building elements gave players and Game Masters unparalleled freedom to explore and shape the world with their heroic actions. It has become one of the best-selling and most beloved campaigns in Pathfinder's history.

Today, we are proud to announce the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary crowdfunding campaign has begun with our friends at Game On Tabletop! You can see all the details now at KingmakerCampaign.com. Explore the books, the Add-Ons, and the Level-Ups. Help us build a bigger, better, more immersive Kingmaker campaign.

Together, we'll take your new kingdom—and the Kingmaker campaign—to new heights of power!

I wouldn't count it out. There are lots of people waiting to the end of the campaign to pledge, specifically because of how GameOnTableTop charges upfront. I'd be willing to bet we'll hit the $400k

Fixed that for polite conversation.

I'm well aware a Bestiary won't include encounters, but it will include new monsters, maybe NPCs, and I presume a consolidation of the individual AP monsters. That's quite useful. More useful alone than needing to pick through a P2E campaign to locate the added encounters.

So I still say count me in for a 1E KM Bestiary.

The 1E Bestiary also will include updated versions of characters that already existed in the original KM AP, but were only using Core Rulebook rules. So the Old Beldame will likely be restatted as a witch, Baron Drelev as a swashbuckler, and so on. Equipment might likewise be tailored to incorporate new magic items from Ultimate Equipment and later books. Exactly how many NPCs will get those kind of updates is yet to be determined, but there will be a fair amount of them.

That is awesome to see and might convince me to get the 1E Bestiary to go with my original soft covers.

Changing Irovetti to a Magus or something would also be amazing!

I think king works better as bard, but that might be because our pc party's king is battle herald :p

Anyway, I really need to get dat 1e bestiary as pdf, so hopefully its available after campaign

When I ran Kingmaker in my home game, I restatted him as a single-classed bard with the Arcane Duelist archetype. He was quite a holy terror for the PCs but they finally put him down.

Pretty sure I posted the stats here at Paizo.com, though I have no idea where. You could probably find it if you search "Jason Nelson Irovetti Arcane Duelist."

Will there be an update/newsletter/missive of some type to keep backers informed of the progress of the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary crowdfunding... weekly, monthly, quarterly?

Hi all,

We've posted a new thread in the Kingmaker Adventure Path discussion forum to ask people about specific encounters, creatures, and NPCs they experienced during either playing or GMing the original Kingmaker AP that were in their feeling way too easy, way too hard, or otherwise boring, anticlimactic, tedious, or just generally un-fun. If you've got experiences or thoughts to share on the original adventures head on over and let us know when, where, and why!

Thanks!

I received a late pledge post card with my Tomorrow Must Burn adventure path.

When these books hit retail, will they be there own separate subscription? Or would they be included under the Adventure path subscription?

I would like to make sure that if I buy them during the late pledge that I won't then get a second copy as a subscription.

Just as the Rise of the Runelords and Curse of the Crimson Throne Hardcover compilations, the Kingmaker Hardcover will (pretty much guaranteed) not be part of any subscription.

Will I be able to buy a copy if I don't pledge.

Nothing personal, I don't do kickstarters.

They confirmed (on GameOnTabletop) that the hardcover and additional books will be available for purchase through normal distributor channels, but some items will be exclusive:
The kingdom management screen, Kingmaker hero-point tokens, and Kingmaker Dice IIRC.

[EDIT:]I just looked again, I did miss the special edition leatherette versions of the Kingmaker hardcover and companion guide, and the slipcase will be exclusives as well.

Confirming what Franz said. You'll be able to purchase the Kingmaker Adventure Path and Bestiary products from paizo.com and your favorite local game store. The exclusive items are only available to backers of the campaign.

They will not be a separate subscription offer, and we don't have any plans to include them as part of existing subscriptions.

Can you please define "exclusive items" regarding this? Is that the pawns, 5e bestiary, 1e bestiary, and flip mats?

Hi Jason!

Do you have any updates for the Kingmaker 10th Anniversary Campaign release?

While I certainly can't speak for Jason, and definitely can't speak for Paizo, the last update I'm aware of is that Legendary have completed their turnover to Paizo, and it's looking like a Q4 2020 release, but since it's 2020 things might change.

Thanks Chemlak!

Is there any way I can make a late (very late) pledge?
Or am I too... late?

We announced a bit ago that the project is running behind and is likely a mid 2021 release.

No way to make a late pledge but almost all of the products will be available when this releases in 2021.

We might reopen some of the non-exclusive pledge levels as we get closer to the files being finished but that's not been officially decided quite yet. And as Justin wrote, most of these will be available through all of our distribution channels and our site upon release in 2021.

Looking forward to this. Thanks for the update Jeff Alvarez, and tell everyone working on this that we really appreciate all the hard work they're putting into this 1,000+ pages masterpiece!

Hi Paizo,

As a 70+ year old man, this is most likely going to be the last campaign that I run, via PbP here on Paizo. I'd like to get started and so was wondering if there is a firmer date than mid 2021?

I have both the original 1E print / PDF version as I was a Charter Subscriber at the time, but also was a Kickstarter backer so I have the CRPG.

Also, some questions if y'all don't mind answering.

Is the Kingdom building portion like the original, ie. hex by hex, or more like the CRPG, region by region?

The CRPG had a bloody ton of extra areas, did any of these make it's way into this version?

Are the companion quests part of the 2E version.

thanks for any information,

-- david

Just wondering if there is a firm release date yet?

PaizoCon is next weekend, I'd suspect if we're getting an update soon, that's when we'll get it.

Yes, the announcement was that Kingmaker will come out in April, 2022 with a lot of art shown off. PaizoCon Online: Day 1 is on Twitch to replay. It will take time to edit it all and put on YouTube. The Keynote starts at 1:10:50.

Dang April 2022! I hope I live long enough to run it as a PbP on the boards (I'll be almost 75 when it comes out).

Yeah, I no longer remember how I backed this, how much I backed it for, or where I live. Age'll do that.

I always have to check my pledge on Kickstarter to know what I backed for.

I'm interested in the PF1e Bestiary for this but two questions.

1) When is this finally due out for release because I feel like it's been forever since this was announced.

2) I know the monsters from the AP itself are in the bestiary, but will there also be brand new monsters in there?

1) April 2022. See post six above yours.
2) Don't know

As for 2, the 1E Bestiary assumes you have access to all six of the 1E hardcover bestiaries (although the vast majority of the monsters in Kingmaker from these hardcovers are from books 1 and 2). What's converted from the Adventure Path itself into the 1E bestiary are all of the hazards and traps, the half-dozen or so NPC companions that were unlocked in the crowdfunding effort and are in the Companion Guide, and all of the unique monsters and NPCs from both the Companion Guide and the Adventure Path itself. That includes named NPCs, of course, but also monsters that have been adjusted or leveled up to be more powerful. It also includes a few monsters from 2nd edition that are brand new to 1st edition, and finally includes several brand new monsters that are first introduced in the Adventure Path.

In all, if I recall correctly, there's over 250 (maybe closer to 275) or so stat blocks in all in the 1E bestiary, but that number's going off memory since I'm not at the office at the moment and haven't been work

When this comes out in April, will the 1e expansion be available for purchase here? I've been itching to run Kingmaker and I heard the PC adaptation added in a lot of good stuff so it'd be nice to be able to give my players the full experience.

Plus I'd like to get my hands on those conversion rules mentioned in the fundraiser. I've been converting Strength of Thousands to 1e for my playgroup and I'd feel better have a more official means of handling the conversion of DCs and such

My understanding is that all the books will be for sale here. There weren't many exclusive things for the crowdfunding, but none of those that were exclusives were books or accessories for running the campaign.

And there aren't "conversion" rules, exactly. There's a 1st edition Pathfinder Bestiary and a 5E one, both of which present monster and NPC and trap/hazard stats for all the things in the Adventure Path and Companion Guide that aren't in the books you already own. Neither book provides a full on conversion to run the Adventure Path itself—it's only being published for 2nd edition Pathfinder.

This is amazing news James! a big thanks to you and the rest of the team responsible for this monumental effort! It will go down in history as a masterpiece I think: the number of folks who wants to sign up for this game when it comes out is maddening. I can't wait to GM it for the sheer pleasure of reading all this new stuff!
