Signal of Screams Adventure Path Announced!

Early this year, we let you know that the Starfinder Adventure Path is going monthly starting in August, starting with the 3-volume campaign Against the Aeon Throne. While that Adventure Path is perfect for heroes who want to strike a solid blow against the sinister Azlanti Star Empire when they unlawfully annex a Pact Worlds colony, it will be over by November! We mentioned that we will be returning to the 6-volume Adventure Path format in February of 2019, but we have yet to say what's going on in between.

Well, witness as the shadows part to reveal terrible, twisted forms and soft clink of chains. I am so excited—rapturously so—to preach unto to you of the beautiful pain to be found within the Signal of Screams Adventure Path. It all begins when the heroes are treated to an all-expenses-paid vacation to New Elysium, a posh resort on a remote asteroid in the Diaspora. Things slowly begin to go awry, as all good things eventually do, and they will have to protect themselves and some of the other guests from a creeping madness infecting both the staff and the facility. Eventually, their adventures will take them to the Darkside of Verces and beyond as they struggle to overcome the architects of this affliction before it spreads to the rest of the Pact Worlds... and possibly into their souls!

Paizo's very own Chris Sims is writing the first adventure, "The Diaspora Strain," which is for 7th-level characters. That's right, your heroes can go straight from Against the Aeon Throne to Signal of Screams once they return to the Pact Worlds. After all, they deserve a bit of R&R after escaping from Azlanti space with their lives! This volume also includes a new system of corruption that will plague your heroes throughout the campaign written by yours truly, as well as advice for running horror campaigns in the Starfinder RPG written by Epidiah Ravachol, author of the incredibly popular indie RPG Dread.

It's going to be such a scream! From your players, of course.

ooh! I can't wait! I wonder if this will be a trend and the next three parter will start with a even higher level start.

Is this the first we've mentioned that Chris Sims is one of "Paizo's own" now?

Quite possibly! If Against the Aeon Throne goes from 1st to 7th, and this one goes from 7th to 15th, we could also end up with an AP that goes up to 20th.

I like the idea of this in-between style of campaign, longer than a module but shorter than an AP. I hope returning to form next year doesn't mean we lose this format entirely.

Yes! This sounds like some neat (cybernetic?) horror, and my players very much prefer higher/mid-levels play in Starfinder. I am excited.

Ooooooooo, horror AP set in a resort. Nice.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Charter Superscriber

Congratulations on the move to monthly AP installments, and 6 part!

Oh man, I love Epidiah! Excited to see that bit he's writing.

Actually, ours is a different Chris Sims. Our Chris Sims is the game designer who used to work for Wizards of the Coast.

Calling it right now, Zon-Kuthon's minions are gonna be behind this. All this talk of chains and rapture from pain sounds pretty Hellraiser to me, and that's kind of Zon-Kuthon's THING.

By the gods, I hope not. I have a bet out that that would happen, and I actually want to lose it. Being right is boring.

I love creepy sci-fi like Dark City and Event Horizon. And our game being science fantasy makes it even better.

Only telepaths can hear you scream in space ...

Indeed! Since Signal of Screams has made it's entry into our awareness with this blog, but currently isn't ready to replicate to our tables and shred our character's, you might say that the adventure path is in it's Eclipse Phase.

Ordinarily I hate plot hooks that are built to "seem" like plot hooks. This time, however, the telegraphed punch is so beautifully built into the plot that I love it. "All expenses paid trip"? to an isolated luxury resort? In a lawless part of space? Shortly after you fight an all powerful space army? Sure, why not. What could go wrong?

IERENDI IN SPACE!!!

Dark Archive

I hope we'll get a Players Guide for this, as so far both Dead Suns & Against the Aeon Throne could have used one - the first one because of the Pharasma/Undead issue, the second one because

:

playing Ysoki, Vesk or Kasatha (or stranger races) makes it impossible to fake being Atzlanti troops.

The Dead Suns Player's Guide could have just been:

1 - your character wants to join the Starfinder Society
2 - your character shouldn't be evil

It was kind of a shame that we didn't even get a blog post for that. One guy in my group showed up with a character who he had to change the backstory of on the fly (didn't really effect anyone mechanically, but then again, this was a few weeks after the core rulebook had been released.)

The full-on player's guides which pathfinder gets are nice, but kinda unnecessary.

But a blog post could quickly outline a couple of opening points about the campaign, particularly character motivations, which might help players out when they are making their PCs.

AtAT actually gives a decent mini-players guide in the front. Based on the CRB themes, it gives some plot hooks that tie you to the mission and give you a reason to be there in the first place.

But I do like Pathfinder's more in-depth previews of the general world, some pitfalls to avoid, etc.
