*begins to wonder if Space Trolls are a thing in Starfinder, or if they've been eradicated with the power of Cosmic Radiation...*
I'm looking at Navasi's background, and what strikes me about her background is almost 'Zap Brannigan'-ish.
"What could drive a selfish Neutral to acts of Good?" *coughs*
...and then I look and re-read the background and see how such a fertile soil for the worker proletariat's greatest hero could grow from...

Echoing Owen's more eloquent statement, but:
Good take on familiar themes, great world details imbedded in the story, cool, compelling character. I wish I could be that evocative-yet-concise in my writing!
Great job, Amanda! Thank you, and other Paizo staff in this thread and elsewhere, for creating meaningful inclusion and representation in your games!

So a discussion board about a fictional character's bio has devolved into a rather pointed discussion about neuro diversity and homosexuality.
This is why we can't have nice things.
Eh, given the amount of attempts at sweeping both subjects under the rug historically, I'd say this is why we deserve nice things. Visibility - it's a good thing.

As a cis male with autism, as much as I loathe any stigma associated to neuroatypicality, it's not usually good to associate it with being gay. Also, depicting someone with autism is notoriously hard to do right. If anyone could do it right, I think paizo could. But that doesn't need to be right now. But to attribute being gay as a disability or as a lifestyle carry with them both unscientific as well as derogatory connotations. We live in a society where neuroatypical is often derided. So long as such a stigma and mental differences and mental health holds in society, treating anything as a mental matter will be treated with resistance, and with good reason. I like Navasi. I don't need the only human iconic to look like me or think like me. That's what my own character sheet is for.

OK, I feel I have to weigh in here. I agree with Caeliat here, and would add sexuality is a spectrum. Tying down Navasi to one thing from just one relationship mentioned seems like we are jumping to conclusions. If the writers determine that Navasi is a lesbian in further fiction, so be it. If she is something else, fine as well.
Given this is science fiction there is a possible situation where she could find a relationship with something that doesn't even typically appear on the binary style of sex and/or gender.
So personally I feel like for myself I want to take a wait and see approach where the writers take this character. I would like to think that I wait for others to present that part of their lives before I assume. (Not always possible, but I try.)

You should create that alias. ;)

Yeah, I feel you on that. I'll just stick with my black hair.

Well, this story rules out my original hunch that Navasi is an Akitonian for whom purple might be (for all we know) a perfectly natural hair color.
Of course, we may now find out that, in the Starfinder setting, purple is actually one of the tamer artificial colors. It can't be too distinctive if she is a wanted fugitive who wants to pass unnoticed....

My only experiments with color involved copper highlights to my black hair. It came out well when the stylist did it but my attempts to recreate it fell flat. Still, it looked cool.
