Heads up: I'll be off my PC in March and will only have forum access via smartphone. Thus it may happen that I skip some days and my post length might be very short at times.

Jon Yddina |

Pathbuilder just updated the gunslinger again and with the Remaster I get a new class feature called Slinger's Precision that will let me add 1d4 precision damage to my firearm Strikes and it will scale up with my firearm proficiency. That is fantastic news. The +1 circumstance bonus to damage that doesn't scale was rather anemic.
They also got rid of the language capping your proficiency with any weapon other than a firearm or crossbow to one step below, if I wanted to take like ancestry feats to increase my proficiency with something else.
@GM: Can I add that starting next turn or should I wait to update it at the next long rest along with motive Munitions Crafter?

Maclin "Mac" Stoneheart |

Wait, is this the guy we were charged with decapitating by the king above?
Yes, we were requested to kill the Morlock king by the Boss gremlin. But so far he has not attacked. Actually, Jon, with his +6 Diplomacy, should speak to the king, since they speak the same language.

Sorry for the tardy response. Sure, go right ahead.

Cool. I updated my character sheet with Slinger's Precision and the updated Munitions Crafter too. Other than my one last ghost charge bomb, I'm tapped out of infused items for the day.

Um guys, didn't we find a black soul gem in the back of the raven doll, sort of like a battery? I think we still have it. This doll has a compartment in the back also. What do you think about powering up the goblin doll with the black gem? I mean, the doll has no arms or legs, so I doubt it could hurt us when it "wakes up". Thoughts?
The gem had a soul in it that was controlling the doll. It was very angry at us. Do you mean to try and interrogate it?

Jon Yddina |

Our encounter with the doll was on page 6 if anyone wants to reread that section. The doll cast a spell that gave me mental damage even on a save. I'm not sure if being armless and legless will prevent its magic. It was angry at us for wanting to take its master's possession, but wasn't hostile until we announced our intentions. I'm willing to try reasoning with it again if we all agree.
Also, now that we know this room was used to research putting mortal souls into constructs and vermin, maybe it can tell us a way to release its soul, or give us more information on the process since it's pretty likely that's how it got put in the gem and the raven doll in the first place.

Maclin "Mac" Stoneheart |

Thanks for the page reference, Jon. The raven doll was not hostile, and asked for "Master Azrinae", whoever that is, since we all failed our Society checks. Maybe the soul in the gem was Azrinae's servant or apprentice. I think it's worth it to try and talk to the soul again, whomever has best diplomacy, of course. I think that's Jon.
EDIT: I was going through the thread and on Page 7, Pen remembered the name belonged to a drow and the brownie told us about Azrinae (first name Volluk): "Volluk was an apprentice to someone else named Belcorra, and even though this Volluk person seemed like someone who was mean and dangerous."
Apprentice to Belcorra means arcane caster and drow, so this room we just stumbled into maybe belonged to Azrinae and maybe he is/was the one studying transference of souls into constructs and vermin. Why vermin?!

Jon Yddina |

Two nat 1s in a row? Sorry if he turns into an ooze and eats us alive or something, I did my best lol
Maybe Pen can give it a go (assuming I didn't ruin him for everybody) or he could play translator to Garidan? I'm assuming I've burned any bridges for me to translate for him

Jack Daniels |

Just bad luck, Jon. However, given his lack of movement and current situation, Borbo really can't turn hostile, so no worries there.

Garidan Hemlock |

I am very confused that in 2e, half-elves don't automatically know Elven

Jon Yddina |

Yeah it's lame. I had to spend a bonus language on Elven.

Jack Daniels |

That is odd, Garidan. I guess you could have grown up with the non-elven parent.
Anyway, Jon and Pen, you can retry your Diplomacy/Intimidate checks after a minute. Under normal game circumstances, critical failures such as the ones you rolled, means the creature turns hostile, kicks you out, leaves, or similar outcome, but in this case, with an npc that cannot move or harm you whatsoever, you can retry. Or you can switch it up: now Pen is good cop and Jon is bad cop. Or you can forget it and take the gem out and move on. Up to you.

Jon Yddina |

Did someone forget to make a sacrifice to the dice gods or something? XD

Maclin "Mac" Stoneheart |

Seriously, Jon! I have 3 hps left, immobilized and off-guard. Hagrym's healing cannot keep up with the 30 damage per round this creature does. And it keeps healing itself. Hagrym, do you have any 1st level spells left? I am thinking Runic Weapon on Mac's weapon and go to town with 3 attacks and see if the dice gods turn our luck. If he doesn't kill it, Mac is most likely dead anyway.

Jon Yddina |

Have you used your wand of Heal yet? The 3 action version is an AoE that heals living creatures and hurts the undead.

Jack Daniels |

I must say, nicely played with the Runic Weapon and the crit! Good teamwork! I was worried about a TPK...

Garidan Hemlock |

Just noticed, I did not track any loot. Do you as a group have a sheet for this? Do we have a +1 rune left over?

Jon Yddina |

Yes we have a Google Doc file at this link. The only rune we have in loot is a slick armor rune.
Adding the gem to our loot, it looks like the total came out to 103 gp in sale value assuming we sell everything with a price tag, which works out to 20 gp 6 sp each, but I didn't use a calculator to add up each item (I'm on my phone right now and just did it in my head) so if someone wants to double check my math that would probably be wise.

Jack Daniels |

Jon, you are missing the following treasure:
Silver Sword cane (you can sell for 2.5 gp) (near devil room)
Mesmerizing opal (you can sell for 7 gp)
Five (5) shining sling bullets (worth 1.5 gp each if you sell)
Type I necklace of fireballs (all in web lurker room)
Bloodstone worth 10 gp
Softly glowing +1 weapon potency rune
Sickly green fear gem (you can sell for 20 gp or attach to weapon) (in shrine room near where you fought the shadow)
40 gp from morlock king (don't know if you divided already)

Maclin "Mac" Stoneheart |

Mac is leveled to 3. As a General feat, he chose Incredible Initiative. As part of his fighter class, he received Bravery (will saves increase to expert and frightened condition lasts less). Mac makes no claim to any treasure. He will take gold, though he does argue for a party fund for the water breathing potion (see below).
In town, these are the plans:
Give Wrin an update on our progress.
Speak to Yinyasmera at Crook's Nook and see if her 3 associates made it ok back to her and confirm that 4th one is dead.
Inquire with the merchants/Morlibint (through Pen) about buying a Potion of Water Breathing - Level 3 Item - worth 11 gp - to search the drake's cavern. Maybe Pen can also ask him if he knows about library under the lighthouse on the level that we are headed to - he does sell books for a living.
Speak to Vandy Banderdash about ghouls - what she knows about them and make Religion checks also, if needed.

Jon Yddina |

Updated the loot page.
Do we have a +1 rune left over?
I don't have a problem with Garidan taking the +1 rune.
They renamed the necklace of fireballs to Frozen Lava in the remaster, so I almost couldn't find it lol.
So our grand total of everything that has a listed price on the loot page other than the +1 rune is 199 gp Split 5 ways that is 39 gp 8 sp each.
Inquire with the merchants/Morlibint (through Pen) about buying a Potion of Water Breathing - Level 3 Item - worth 11 gp
Let's get a scroll of water breathing instead. It's a 3rd rank item, costs only 1 gp more (12 gp) and it can hit all 5 of us at once so we can all go under the sea together.
I've leveled up all the way except for choosing the general feat. I'm really torn. I'm thinking of either Toughness, Fleet, or, though it's galling to use my general feat slot to take a skill feat, Wary Disarmament would help me be a better thief. Speaking of thievery, I'm putting my skill increase into Thievery so now I'm expert in it.

Jack Daniels |

Does anyone else have any plans in town, separate from what Mac listed?
You will all be full hps so your profiles should reflect that.

I need to go shopping. I'd like to buy the formulas for all 8 types of lesser bane ammunition (rank 1, 1 gp each) and minor life shot and aromatic ammunition (rank 2, 2 gp each), a hand crossbow (rank 0, 3 gp), basic crossbow bolts (rank 0, 1 cp each), and as many waterproof firearm carrying cases as I can find since each one can hold only 6 rounds of ammo (rank 0, 2 sp each; don't need more than 4 at this point. If I can only find one, I'll probably just make 8 firearm rounds tomorrow and the rest in crossbow bolts and just use the hand crossbow once I'm out of firearm rounds. My class features work equally well with crossbows as they do with firearms, the only difference being for some reason crossbows get a flat +2 precision damage bonus instead of +1d4).
And just confirming with you that Munitions Crafter does not specify the alchemical ammunition I create has to be firearm rounds, so I can make alchemical crossbow bolts as well.

I have a request for the GM.
As I do level 3, I am thinking. A lot of my spellcasting is limited because I am always exploring with a sword and shield in hand, which means that buffing in the start of a fight is hard. Could we maybe implement a house rule to say that I can cast spells while having a sword and shield up and that would "expend" the use of spellstrike so I'd have to recharge it?

Garidan Hemlock |

that is not a house rule. That is how it works in 2e. You don't need a free hand anymore.

![]() |

Question for the team:
Would you like me to learn the Enlarge spell? You get more reach, which is always great! Also you get +2 to damage. Later I'll be able to make you Huge instead.

Garidan Hemlock |

AV is such a closed quarters AP, being large is not always useful.
From what we have seen, I'd suggest you find spells to increase your survivability. Hydraulic Push is nice to get some distance. Briny Bolt for blinding.

![]() |

I'm going with Mirror Image for sure. 2nd spell is what is making me scratch my head. I think I'll go Blur.
So, level 3...
General Feat: Toughness
New spells in spellbook: Blur, Mirror Image
New prepared spell: 2nd rank - Mirror Image
Skill increase: Crafting

Garidan Hemlock |

General Feat: Toughness
Skill increase: Diplomacy to Expert
I will gladly take the +1 rune.

Morbilint has the formulae that you need. You find 2 waterproof firearm carrying cases. I agree with your interpretation for Munitions Crafter.

Jon Yddina |

Was I able to find a hand crossbow?
With our 50 gp reward and the 25 gp gem Pen reminded us of, we each get 15 gp on top of the amount I posted earlier

Garidan Hemlock |

Garidan is not the youngest fellow, it's time he gets some glasses.
With all the money earned, and what I have saved up from my former job, can i buy Glasses of Sociability?

Jack Daniels |

Jon, if you have the elf trait, you are immune to the ghoul's paralysis, which half-elves have.
Garidan, if you can afford it with your current funds, you can purchase it, but there is no hidden stash of savings. Sorry :)

Hagrym |

Sorry for the delay, everyone but it might be the weekend before I can level Hagrym. I have to head out of town tomorrow for a seminar and I won’t be back until Friday night.
Apologies for holding things up!

Hey Hagrym, if you use the Pathbuilder app, it's much easier to level up.
You have to pick a skill increase to expert, which can be crafting, nature, religion, or survival.
For the general feat, you have a lot of good options. To name just a few:
Assurance (Medicine): You auto make DC 20 check and heal 2d8+10 with Treat Wounds every time without rolling.
Canny Acumen to raise Reflex save by +2
Incredible initiative: +2
Robust health: Treat wounds hps add your level.
Take your time and pick best for you.

Jon, what's the cost of the underwater scroll? Please take gold from the group treasure and then divide balance by 5.
The scroll of water breathing is 12 gp, which means we pay 2.4 gp from each of our shares of the treasure, which means including the adjustments from the gem Pen reminded me of and splitting the scroll, we've received a total of 52 gp 4 sp each.

I am back, guys! More or less survived. I’ll have my update posted tomorrow and you all can check it over to be sure I do everything correctly. Thanks for your patience.

Hagrym |

3 level cleric (war priest)
——-
8+Con hit points
Skill increase: expert in religion
General Feat: Assurance (medicine)
2nd warpriest doctrine: trained in martial weapons
Spells: 2 2nd level gained per day
*Dispel Magic
*Restoration
+1 to AC, attacks, perception, saves, skills, save DC and class DC.
——-
That’s the easy part. Could someone check the numbers when I get the changes made and make sure the skills and all that good stuff add up?
Thanks!

Everything looks good, Hagrym, except I have your hps at 43, not 41.

Maclin "Mac" Stoneheart |

Great to have you back, Grym! JD, would it be ok to retrain out of a class feat: Brutish shove? I have not used it once in the campaign. I think Intimidating strike fits the raging warrior build better.
