GM Worg's The Slithering

Game Master Kyle "Worg" H

A Chaotic runthrough of the Slithering with KnowDirection content permitted.

Scarab Sages

Guidelines:
1: No Humans Permitted! This scenario specifically requires non-human heroes.
2: Characters start at level 5. Level 5 starting wealth includes the following;
• 50gp.
• 1 4th level item.
• 1 3rd level item.
• 1 2nd level item.
• 1 1st level item.

3: Party should be all chaotic and ready to conduct some mischief!
Options: I am open to Uncommon/Rare Ancestries. I am also open to Evil idealistic characters SO LONG AS THEY COOPERATE WITH EVERYONE.
Also an Option KnowDirection has come up with some unique ideas on Ancestries. As this is effectively campaign mode with a chronicle at the end, Knowdirection materials, such as Soulwrought are welcomed.

Interested, assuming this is the tread of the 3 you were using. Looks like Paizo was having trouble.

Are you looking for character concepts just now, or full builds?

This sounds like a good opportunity to get into pf2e so:

Laugh at me as I try to make a character.

Background: A mercenary often seeks for a rich area to R and R in, and Kibwe is fun. Good shops, nice climate, few prejudices. Which is good if you are a orcish thiefling with some rather obvious demonic attributes.
When things get weird is when you find out that...
The source of your fiendish heritage turned her back on the Abyss and is an agent of the redeemer queen? And even seeks to support her mortal descendents? Although she has a lot of them and thus a rather limited attention span but...

It turned out that there was indeed a need for muscle in the pursuit of greater liberation!

Scarab Sages

Character concepts to start out. Two seats are currently reserved. I'll tell them to post in here so you can see what knuckle-head idea they came up with haha!

And I had written a Campaign thing earlier but Paizo's site did indeed eat it :(

I'm interested! Currently in class so I'll get a character concept cooking once I'm free.

Here is Mightypions very much work in progress Orc-Thiefling-Liberator.

I am not sure, is it possible to make him half-orc-thiefling? At least narratively? He doesnt actually have much if any human blood, the demon ancestor just looked a bit human.

Plot twist/trope twists I had in mind:

--His demon ancestor is with the redeemer queen and a lot nicer then the hard core CE GORRUM UBER ALLES PEACE IF FOR WEAKLINGS Orc part of his family.

--She may have stuffed him in a bag of holding and teleported him to the Mwangi lands, far away from close to the worldwound where he was born.
She has rather limited bandwith and attention span on account of trying to support all of her descendends (maybe a number in the low hundreds) fairly. She views this as her penance.

--He is chaotic good and a liberator.

--His chosen art (which his deity encourages) are pretty devastating poetic putdowns and pranks. The question I have: Technically, if pranking is an art form, then him pranking someone during midday would be anathema, is this something that is handwaveable?

I'm interested in applying, but I've GMed this. Is that okay?

Character Concept
Conrasu Fighter with ranger archetype: Right of knowing Heritage, giving allies advantage with the monster hunter feats.
Melee character mostly, unless we are dealing with 10 speed enemies, no need for anyone to get into melee. Also ac is high up there taking those ac feats.
Also, part medic. Back-alley background to give risky surgery. Will also have continual recovery feat along the way.
Oh, right communication. Hoping one of you select elven as a language since that ancestry doesn't get common. Elven is also well spoken since elves are almost as common in humans in Pathfinder. That or Celestial.

Hello Kyle!

Clynter is a Chaotic Evil Skeleton Rogue (Scoundrel). His most noticeable feature (besides the fact that he is a skeleton) is that he has a mouthful of golden teeth. He is quite proud of this gold and in fact, the only real long-term goal he has is to someday plate his entire skeleton in gold plating.

He has few memories of the person that he was before being reanimated; but he remembers enought to know that he wasn't a good person. He is unable to enjoy even the simplest pleasures of being alive but doesn't feel much pain or fear either. Gambling is one of the only things that he still gets enjoyment from and it has become a compulsive habit for him. Of course, he is not above cheating. If anything the risk of being caught just raises the stakes for him.

Of course a reckless, amoral undead creature with a penchant for cheating at cards, stiffing creditors and committing robberies tends to make a lot of enemies, so he has a tendency to always be on the move and is always looking for an opportunity to make a little more money.

Mechanically, he is going to be a pretty straight forward scoundrel rogue, specializing in skills like Deception, Thievery and Stealth.

Scarab Sages

I plan on having it be a six player table because of the sole reason that this adventure does not get run all that often, so more chances to allow people to get the chronicle for it.

@Arkon If possible, I would prefer that you choose Orc with Tiefling Heritage instead for simplicity sake of the interesting character. As far as pranking, I would handwave that but not handwave the poetry.

@DoubleGold If at least one other person would be open to Elven And potentially messing with you on the translations I'd be open to the single language.

@Water Soup If you don't mind very minor liberties with the Chaotic party then you are welcome to present a character concept.

@Clynter "Glittergrin" Good to see you have made it.

Sure, Orc-demon spawn thiefling it is!

Also need to double check if being intimidating doesnt mess up my liberator anathema... Yes it does, I will adjust for being good at deception rather then intimiation.

Definitly fits his patron better.

Other question:

You must respect the choices others make over their own lives, and you can’t force someone to act in a particular way or threaten them if they don’t.

Does this mean taking prisoners (rather then killing them) with an eye towards redeeming them later (or just subduing rather then killing enemy mercenaries) is anathema?

Hehe, gambler gives lie to me, and I can boost CHA with it and put the other on STR. Easy to add being on the run from some irate card sharks.

Horizon Hunters

Hey there, not too knowledgeable about what is the slithering about but since it's for non humans I came up with a silly yet somewhat cool concept

Blade wolf! Hunter automaton magus, a wolf like automaton that fights with his claws doing spellstrike, not quite sure yet but the idea is making it fast, very fast, hunter automaton running on all fours plus laughing shadow's cascade and maybe fleet as well

Scarab Sages

@Arkon From a liberation standpoint, yeah that would break the anathema as it would be viewable as a suppression of someone else.

@Ricka Draws Interesting concept. How would you approach the chaotic style with it?

Well I'm looking at the hired killer background, he would be a former killer or bounty hunter, he worked along with some human mercenaries and such but the situation allows him to get away and do their own stuffs, however some of them are his friends (not really) and he has a vague motivation to solve the situation, of course that he'll realize that they aren't as friendly as he initially thought

I don't see him as evil but more chaotic neutral

So, he was a chained dog of sorts but now his chain is broken and he's enjoying it

Character concept: firefighter who is a water kineticist

Ancestry: azarketi, Heritage: river azarketi
Background: fire warden
Class: kineticist, single gate, water element

Party Role: melee striker, out-of-combat healer. I think I can arrange 16 CHA for Intimidation, but I'm not sure I'd have enough skills to be a face.

Scarab Sages

So currently at 2 players who are in, and what I can see as 4 potential players. Feel free to decide further background information and what your crazy bag of chaos character would probably do in most situations.

Watery Soup
Ricka Draws
Arkon the Liberator
DoubleGold
Clynter "Glittergrin"
Roscman the guy with KnowDirection

You can humor me by answering these questions in character acting or dialogue. (Creative answers are welcomed)
The only wrong answers is turning yourself in or behaving lawfully

1. An elderly priest of Abadar is crossing the street to get to the bank. He is struggling, but may be an easy mark for either yourself or someone else. What do you think you should do?

2. You have a giant pile of keys that might be able to open a wooden door that is currently locked. Behind that door is the bounty of your current quest. Searching all the keys may take a while. What do you feel is the best course of action? (The setting you are in for this question is what you decide)

3. A political struggle between two nations may result in a barrage of assaults and skirmishes if diplomats are unable to continue travelling back and forth via caravan. The caravan itself is transporting a chest of gold and jewels to offer as a peace treaty, which just a handful of could see to you being well off! It appears well guarded though by a squadron of troops, a knight, and a mage. What do you believe is the best course of action?

4. You have a body that if someone found you with it, you would get into a significant amount of trouble. Whether or not you actually killed them is not as relevant, as being found with it is where the trouble will be caused. Somehow you have to get rid of it. What would you do?

1.

Can't see anything for me there, I'm a hunter not a thief and while I like money and have no qualms about taking things from others, a certain sense of pride tells me that the priest isn't a worthy challenge.

2.

Wooden door? That's a feeble obstacle, who need keys? I can easily tear it down with my claws, if that's not enough I can easily drop a fireball

3.

Stalk them, strike when they lest expect, the mage must be the first one to fall, if a conflict happens that's good, more work for me, I don't really care about those nations, I just do what I do

4.

Annoying situation, if I must deal with the body instead of just getting away I belive the best course of action is cut it into smaller bits and them burn them, I can cast produce flames after all, if that takes too much time then maybe just cut it into pieces, leaving so bad that people can't recognize him, so he is not important anymore, just a random corpse, sure, people will discover who he is but that gives me time to get out of there

This is a Chaotic good character so

1: Hmm, this is such an obvious mark, someone else is going to go at him first, then I run in heroically, save the day, and drive of the attacker without killing him. At which point my trusty friend giggles yoink his stuff. The other patsy gets the retribution, I get the loots, because there are some struggling artists around here. Not just me even.

2: Its a wooden door and I got a great axe. Yeah, obvious solution. If its close to midnight, I attempt to cut it in a way that leaves the door shaped roughly like an erect middlefinger, to show those whose treasures we are liberating what we think of them.

3:Arkons mind goes into overdrive as he considers possible options
OK, I am actually getting moral quandaries here, war where both sides are like, roughly equally repressive just gets people killed and liberties taken. I am all for dicking over the Chelish, but these arent involved here. Hmmm. I GOT AN IDEA! I rally the party to dress up as CHelish aligned black ops, and we commit a false flag attack! Clearly, all of these political struggles have been subtly done by the Chelish! This will turn both realms against them! Nothing makes more peace between 2 nations then a common enemy! OK, several slight issues, first, I need to disguise myself to be infernal tiefling, not pitborn. Not a big deal, I am trained in that stuff. Second, we need to leave survivors. I even have an idea to sell it.
Our contract says rob the caravan of its treasure and bring the treasures to you Mr. Generic plausible devil name, you didnt include murder all the guards into it.
Need to pray to Nocticula for a plausible generic cheliax aligned devil name, yeah, but I think thats workable!
He pauses
As for how to do it, good old night time ambush should do it. I got darkvision, their mage may have it too but will be busy prepping his spells, so yeah, lets go in at night while heir mage is prepping spells!!

4:
Boring but thats just gonna be a bunch of acid splashes Oi think. I mean, pretending he is a piece of art is more fun, but its daylight outside so hmm nah.

Dark Archive

Hey everybody. Sorry I'm late. Got caught up trying to think of concepts. That choice paralysis hits like a truck!

Right now I've got a powerful urge to play an undead character. Our party is looking fairly frontline-heavy, so I'm thinking vampire, with some kind of support role. Alchemist maybe, or oracle, or investigator? Certainly something that can provide healing for me and the skeleton.

While also carefully managing its own herd of blood bags, of course. With some stuff I homebrewed to help smooth it over.

1. The question isn't whether Clynter is going to rob the old buzzard, but whether he's going put everything he stole on red or black later that night.

2. A locked door has never stopped Clynter before and he doesn't see why it would now.

3. Clynter waits until nightfall and quietly takes out the first person who gives him and opportunity. Preferably someone with a visored helmet, because he's going to put on their uniform, sneak back into the encampment and grab whatever he can carry before slipping back into the night.

4. Clynter calls for a guard, saying that the gentleman in question suddenly collapsed and needs medical help. Then in the ensuing chaos, Clynter plants the bloody dagger on the guard and slips away.

You didn't say these answers can only be done at level 5, the current level in which we'd play the game.

1. Use the creation spell, to give him a skateboard. If nobody has that spell, pick him up and walk him across.
2. Look through the windows to see if there is an alternative path like vents or whatnot. If there are no windows or alternative path, use dimension door to teleport 2 feet past the door. If that don't work, lock pick the door.
3. Hey I have something else to offer. I put in the caravan a bag of holding. Inside the bag of holding is a bunch of assassins. They are instructed to come out of the bag once inside the fully covered wagon, as they only have 10 minutes of air. They will sit and be transported quietly. When the time is right, they strike.
4. Ask the wizard to make the body invisible while we carry it off, that way, it looks like we are doing an enactment. If nobody has the spell, put it in the bag of holding while we carry the body off. If that don't work, find the nearest nearby hiding spot, even if in the dumpster.

They would pick up the priest, hoist them on their shoulders using the fireman's carry, and carry them to the other side.

They would touch the door handle, first, to see if there are flames on the other side. If there weren't, they would break the door down.

Let's be clear. If a squadron of troops, a knight, and a mage can't defend their caravan from six adventurers, they don't deserve to be guarding the chest. The stronger team should secure the chest and deliver it. Attack the caravan!

Also, keep an eye on Arkon and Glittergrin during combat. They keep accidentally drooling whenever the word "jewels" are uttered. Those gems aren't ours.

Getting caught with bodies isn't a big deal, but getting caught with a specific body is a big deal. Technically, getting caught with a specific, identifiable body is a big deal. Someone who controlled the acid elements could easily ... unidentify the body.

Scarab Sages

@Everyone I like the responses so far. This will go well in my notes. Also, something to bear in mind; in order to fulfill my chaotic campaign mode, there may be some very minor plot liberties. All the key notes will be hit, but they may be hit just a bit differently. An early example is that you are all supposed to be meeting in front of a merchant stall, but instead I might have more appropriate to your natures of a start up. At no point will it affect skill checks and encounters Disclaimer: My options may open up more skill options to try, and encounters will be the same unless very reckless decisions cause the PCs to "Pull the Entire Dungeon", so to speak.

That being said, if you desire, I can put into spoilers what is actually supposed to be going on for those plot moments if you like.

Added some more background, equipment and finalizing some character choices yet to be done.

Question, I think Orcs start with Orcish and common, Abyssal makes sense because he is specifically a demonspawn and has even had a reasonable chat with his demonic ancestor, and I added Mwangi because 14 int means 2 bonus languages, and as to why he speaks it, his "Grand-Aunt" has a weak profane gift that gives some extra linguistics. Nothing mechanical changes.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

With respect to plot liberties, I consider it a plus, not a minus, and one of the reasons I would even consider playing as a PC after GMing is that I anticipate things going differently.

As a matter of fact, when I ran it, I deviated from the book quite a bit, so if you ran it by the book, I'd be pretty surprised.

Horizon Hunters

Sounds good, I'll put together my character soon and make another alias and such, kinda new with that on these forums

He snickers. "Make good friends. Volunteer at the church. That way when the sick come pouring in I've got my foot in the door and easy access to a little sippy here and there."

He gestures towards his fangs while making quotation marks. "Ah well, can't be helped. I'm going on the hope that the thing I'm after is at least reasonably fireproof and turn the door into kindling."

The bandits make a show, and my 'adventuring party' deals with them before the fancy royalists have to dirty their white gloves. Best case scenario, I get a sweet reward. Worst case? I flub the deal, the two nations go to war, and getting meals becomes a WHOLE lot easier for the next couple of years."

The bandage-covered vampire bites his lower lip hard enough to draw blood. "Mmmm. Burn the body, turn the body. Burn the body, turn the body. I'd give that cadaver one good look and let my gut tell me which one to do. Maybe whichever one would be funnier."

So the last question I will ask is what is everyone's background? If possible, please write your background in your character's tag so I can always quickly see what they are. It helps me flesh out some RP elements.

Barber for background. I realize back-alley doctor don't work, cause I won't have the dex for ranger archetype or the strength for full on melee. Still gets the risky surgery feat. And I'll make sure to give you a clean cut, even when shaving your arm, legs, chest and back hair.

Fire Warden for background (skinned as a firefighter).

Gambler!

Background is emissary. I added a spoiler tab in my profile that explains exactly what he was up to and how he got all the way to Mwangi.
