Apologies but I will be off line due to family emergency for unknown duration.
Thank you.

Stepnik Bellow |

Thanks for asking. Everything is good here. Just power out for about 3-hours, and no damage... Lucky this time. Similar storm in 2004 knocked the power out for 2-weeks.
Dorian... hope everything works out okay for you.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

Thanks for checking in. Glad things turned out ok Stepnik. Sebastien, take all the time you need. I'll try and see if I can manage an update this week, but no promises.

Dorian 'Grey' |

I am posting this in all my Games.
My situation
We had an family emergency that caused us to need to travel down to Florida to visit my mom. She has been since diagnosed with Major Congestive heart failure. She can't breathe on her own.
We are back in Michigan. My Mom is currently resting at ease at a Hospice, comfortable but still expectant to pass. Our hope is she will become able to have Home hospice so she can do it at home.
I appreciate you. I Thank you.
I feel that I really need to lessen my commitment to these games. I will be stepping away from many including CotKK.
I apologize.
Dorian

Dorian 'Grey' |

I am very appreciative of friends and family support.
Thanks everyone for the game(s) and probably adventure with you in the future!

Ascaede Voheque |

Am on holidays until Monday next, and unable to access Roll20, so I can’t contribute tactically that well. At any rate, Ascaede is unwilling to chase the kobold into what she thinks is its “home territory” as it were, much as this might allow it to spread the word and raise the alarm of the insurgent murderhobos.
She will search bodies and try to gather intelligence in the room where the miners were first encountered…

Ascaede Voheque |

@Waedin/Sebastien/Stepnik: you guys are the “older” members of the party. Is there anything in the loot sheet we might want to part with in our bargain with Kerrdremak? Items might be worth more to this kobold than gold…Or have we sold it all in town? Apologies, I have neglected to fill in my part of that sheet, so essentially I don’t even know what we have to bargain with…

Ascaede Voheque |

And thinking further, do we want to try to hire Kerrdremak and his minions to help sorting out Merlokrep? Form the sounds of it, Kerrdremak seems to want out of the complex, but he might be up for some mercenary action. Looks to be a spellcaster of some kind…

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

The party sold some gear off in town, I can't remember what, but looking back on the posts it looks like everyone has 30gp of spending money to spare. I don't think you've found much cash since then.

Waedin Craftsdotter |

I think it's simpler just to let the guy leave after we get as much information from him as possible. Don't want to get betrayed at a difficult time!
As for loot, since no one else took it, Waedin picked up the very expensive ring, other than that there's artisan and thieves' tools she's carrying around that aren't particularly useful, as well as daggers and a shortsword.
It's not gold but should be interesting to a kobold tribe looking to setup a new lair somewhere else. Waedin wouldn't want to give away thieve's tools though. Feels like it'd be against her belief system.
So maybe we offer
Daggers,
ShortSword,
Artisan Tools,
5 gp
For as much information as possible.

Ascaede Voheque |

In the interests of moving forward, happy to go ahead with Waedin’s plan. We’ll offer the Waedin-listed stuff for information and not try to hire them.

Waedin Craftsdotter |

Thank you for running an amazing game. The amount of work you put into tracking things that is easy for us players to forget is really really appreciated!

Ustemir |

Hey everyone! Just a quick note. With the solstice tonight, I have officially kicked off the holiday season. I may be posting at a slower rate than usual, but I am still here. Whatever it is you celebrate, I hope and wish you have a good one.

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

no worries, again, I expected things to slow down around the holidays. Hope you are all safe and warm. Have a happy new year!

Ascaede Voheque |

@GMNABU: Is the Elusive Antidote quest still “Active”? While the actual object of the mission is obviously to deliver the mushrooms to the herbalist so she can make a cure, the quest log merely mentions “locating a key reagent”. We have ‘em! ;)
@GMNABU: have we hit level 3, or is Sebastian “hearing” level 3 merely that his ears hears a long ways off, longer than perhaps the rest of us?

GM_NotAngryButUpset |

You'll see that I've added subquests beneath the main quests. Under Elusive Antidote there's a subquest to gather Ironbloom mushrooms, which is complete, and another to return the mushrooms to Laurel, which is still active.
Sebastiens just hearing things.

Ascaede Voheque |

Ach! Forgot I was up, I’ll try to get to this ASAP. Until then, because I’m not near a Roll20 conversant device, does Ascaede have the same options Waedin had to rush in and stab someone? Can she flank with Waedin at all, even with two Strides or Stride and Step?

Ustemir |

Ustemir is updated. PB link
I switched to Flurry instead of Precision Hunter's Edge.
I went for +4 Str, ended up with +3 Dex and +1 Wis after the reshuffle, got +1 Handwraps instead of the original +1 Shortsword.
I kept the Main Gauche to have some sort of a P/S weapon just in case.
Saves updated, AC remains the same due to the shift to Studded Leather.
Hope that's okay. Let me know.

Ascaede Voheque |

@Ustemir: two things I don’t understand, and I find no information on your character alias/sheet:
1: is the 1d8 Slashing damage added to your fist attack due to Hunt Prey, Kolek being a bear or something else?
2: In Kolek’s turn , you have a one Action “Support”. What is the Support Action? Does an AC have to use this to provide a special combat effect?
I have found the rules for Familiars, Pets and Animal Companions (mostly when playing Witches, Druids and Rangers) very hard to understand, with their rules scattered about and not easy to follow.

Ustemir |

Yeah, they are kind of all over the place, aren't they? I'll elaborate on the mechanics, no worries.
1: is the 1d8 Slashing damage added to your fist attack due to Hunt Prey, Kolek being a bear or something else?
1d8 is from Kolek's support action. Since Kolek is in melee with the skeleton, and I specifically ordered him to support, that is where the damage is from. Hence the specification that it is slashing. Support is an animal companion-specific action, with bear having a '1d8 slashing damage with each hit' result. I quoted and linked it below.
I turned Ustemir into a flurry ranger for this purpose. So that I can ask Kolek to support while Ustemir punches repeatedly.
2: In Kolek’s turn , you have a one Action “Support”. What is the Support Action? Does an AC have to use this to provide a special combat effect?
Yes, it is an action specific to animal companions. See above. It has to be called out, and it seems they can not do anything else except getting in a position where the player character could benefit from the animal companion's support. So I'll keep note of that in the future.
If it's not clear, ask away. These rules are, indeed, spread thin.
Further related reading is linked in spoiler.
Animal Companion Feat
Prerequisites [Druid] animal order
You gain the service of a young animal companion that travels with you on your adventures and obeys any simple commands you give it to the best of its abilities. See Animal Companions for more information.
Ranger: When you Hunt Prey, your animal companion gains the action's benefits and your hunter's edge benefit if you have one.
An animal companion is a loyal comrade who follows your orders. Your animal companion has the animal and minion traits, and it gains 2 actions during your turn if you use the Command an Animal action to command it; this replaces the usual effects of Command an Animal, and you don’t need to attempt a Nature check. If your companion dies, you can spend a week of downtime to replace it at no cost. You can have only one animal companion at a time.
The species of animal you choose is called your companion's type. Each companion type has its own statistics, as follows.
Size The companion's size
Unarmed Attacks One or more entries with the companion's unarmed attacks and their traits and damage
Attribute Modifiers Starting attribute modifiers
Hit Points The companion's ancestry Hit Points
Skill An additional trained skill your companion has
Senses Special senses your companion has
Speed Your companion's Speeds
Special If present, this lists any special ability your companion has, such as whether it often serves as a mount.
Support Benefit A special benefit you gain by Commanding the Animal to use the Support action (see below).
Advanced Maneuver A powerful new action your companion learns how to use if it becomes a nimble or savage animal companion.
Requirements The creature is an animal companion. Your animal companion supports you. You gain the benefits listed in the companion type’s Support Benefit entry. If the animal uses the Support action, the only other actions it can use on this turn are basic move actions to get into position to take advantage of the Support benefits; if it has already used any other action this turn, it can’t Support you.
Support Benefit Your bear mauls your enemies when you create an opening. Until the start of your next turn, each time you hit a creature in the bear's reach with a Strike, the creature takes 1d8 slashing damage from the bear. If your bear is nimble or savage, the slashing damage increases to 2d8.
-------------------------------
While I went for a bear, each companion type has a different support benefit. Or rather they don't repeat often. For example:
Bat: Your bat flaps around your foes' arms and faces, getting in the way of their attacks. Until the start of your next turn, creatures in your bat's reach that you damage with Strikes take a –1 circumstance penalty to their attack rolls.
Elk: Your elk makes a threatening display by waving its antlers. Until the start of your next turn, if you hit and deal damage to a creature within your elk’s reach, the creature is frightened 1.
(Damn, I should have gone for an elk. Also a cool mount.)
Legchair: Your legchair moves its limbs in the way of enemy attacks. You gain lesser cover from your legchair against all attacks, not just ones where the legchair would be in the way.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I appreciate how the animal companion has been treated in 2e. The wizard's familiar, however, feels very lacking. My wizard very often forgets he has a bird perched on his shoulder.

Waedin Craftsdotter |

What I really dislike about familiars is having iconic familiars like owls is actually mechanically worse than something like a slug. Because an owl kinda forces having one of the familiar ability slots used up for flight.

Ascaede Voheque |

@Ustemir: thanks for the thorough links et al. I was…familiar…with almost all of that, I just didn’t know the AC was required to use the Support action to provide the benefit, and I don’t think I’ve seen anyone call it out the way it should be like you did across any of the PbPs I’ve been in. I’m also running must have skipped the bolded section!
I’m also running a PF2 face-to-face game with two Rangers in the party, one has a big cat he basically ignores and doesn’t particularly care about (was Flurry archer, then swapped to Precision archer until I advised him to switch back) and the other is a Precision archer with a hawk for scratching folks eyes out (persistent bleed). The former only has an AC because of the lacklustre feats available to Rangers at 1st/2nd level, and the latter loves his widdle bird friend but finds the action economy limiting. Both are kind of underwhelmed by their ranged ranger experience.

Ascaede Voheque |

I appreciate how the animal companion has been treated in 2e. The wizard's familiar, however, feels very lacking. My wizard very often forgets he has a bird perched on his shoulder.
I kinda agree. I’m sad AC’s aren’t as fully fledged as they were in PF1, but given the parameters of PF2 I understand the design path and resolution.
But Familiars? Interestingly enough, I don’t exactly mind the approach but finding the information is a nightmare. A Witch’s Familiar is a Familiar. A Familiar uses Pet rules, plus more. So to fully stat out your Witch’s familiar you need to check Familiars, then check Pets in the Per feat, then go back to Familiars and finally back to Witch Familiars because they get more. And the information regarding what they can do (skills and actions, “attacks” etc) is countermanded AND unclear. I once tried using AoN and the way they nest the information was completely borked. Some pages give you links. Others have some of the information, and depending on which way you arrived it sends you to different landing pages with either very little or unrelated information.
