Do we have mage hands? (I dont), using it to make the webs vibrate at a distance? Perhaps coupled with a tasty illusion? An illusionary Ronc perhaps?
Angie H |
The ledge extends to your left, angling upwards a bit. You can see 50 feet along the ledge before there's a crag you can't see past. You'll need to move in order to see past that.
What light do you currently have going? Maddy's container of dried phosphorescence? Anything else?
The webs are going to be difficult terrain at minimum, you won't know for certain until/if you head out onto them.
@Ziyad, the spell says you can exclude creatures from the alarm, so I see no reason why you can't exclude everything but drow.
Angie H |
I'm going to investigate what's next. Giant Lizard has a climbing speed and I obviously won't fall down. Anyway, as long as I'm conscious *)
Stealth: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Gekko slaps his paws loudly in the silence of the cave.
Just to be clear - you're investigating the ledge, not going out on the spider webs?

I can't help but note that your familiar will probably cope better with intelligence (if it can analyze what it saw - how smart are they in 5e?). But to be honest, firstly I forgot about it, and secondly I'm playing for a druid for the first time in 5e and wanted to use this ability ))
Ziyad |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Na, familiars are as dumb as the animals they're based on this edition. So for a bat, its 2 int. It obeys commands, however.
Main thing here, there is an Action that lets me see through its eyes with its perception abilities effectively granting me blindsight and such. At the same time, we share a telepathic link so I can continue giving it commands and be the one doing the analyzing. In this way, its a mini arcane eye.
The cool thing with wild shape though is you keep your mental stats. A wizard polymorphing into a bat would have his int lowered to 2, but a druid would keep their normal int for example. The other benefit (besides the obvious movement and abilities) is of course the hp, which are tracked in an entirely separate pool similar to editions prior to 3e.
he's just standing around in his undies, drooling
Might be a case of art imitating life, as that is what I do IRL most of the day.

Hello everyone! Perhaps you will read this message in different games. This weekend I'm doing a venture-agent things and running 4 starfinder games in two days (Frozen Ambitions series btw). I'm afraid that I won't be able to write game posts until Monday or even Tuesday morning (although who knows, maybe I'll find the strength on Sunday evening if I don't fall dead asleep). RL-things are not going anywhere, so on the first working day I can be very covered with them. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend as well ;)
____
By the way, I myself would like to put the initiative in the hands of other players for the time being. It is clear to you from Kalanzar's reaction that something is approaching or was approaching there.
Angie H |
could be reading this wrong, but I think there is a cave system just beyond the webs?
The chasm and the webs reach for miles in either direction. On the same side of the chasm that you're on, there's another cave system up and to your left. Shuushar thinks you need to cross the chasm to get to the Dark Lake. Somewhere in the middle of the chasm, below your current location, is a stalactite ledge with a light. Close to the other cave system, the webs were vibrating.

Will it take us much out of our way to check out the light? If someone is living there, they might be able to help us get safely through.
Angie H |
Hard to know what's "out of your way" since none of you can see what's on the other side yet. Don't know if you're heading to a sheer cliff face, or a ledge, or a tunnel, or a lair. If I don't hear otherwise, you'll head across the webs towards the light. Kalanzar, will you stay as a lizard, for the climbing speed? The webs are rough terrain without a climbing speed. Also, I assume you're taking your lights?
Alexandra Edgaria Poeschkina |
Alex is behind Shushaar, using her improved vision. Survival or assessing critters isnt really her forte though.
She is prepared to create an illusionary Ronc, Stab him, unceremoiniously kick him in the webs and then have somebody else mage hand for some vibrations before meep-meeping out of there though.
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
> Kalanzar, will you stay as a lizard, for the climbing speed?
Yep, that's right.

@Ang: Couple questions…how much is Maddy aware of what’s happening up top? I’m not sure if she can actually hear speaking from this distance and I also don’t know what’s being shared telepathically. Although she probably will see Ziyad’s attack.
How far away is the sword from her position? Is it retrievable at all?
Angie H |
Rechecking the gameplay thread, nobody has said anything, so Maddy doesn't know what's happening, though clearly something is. Perception check to find the sword, though she wouldn't know she needs to look for it.
The halfling is wearing a toque (woolly cap).
Ziyad can't see the spider, but he could sense it just before he cast, so we'll leave the roll as is.
Ksenia Frostforge |
Ksenia really does have extremes of luck with the dice. That was such a nice DEX save that we'll say that she managed to swing herself back up near the back of the spider. She still has her turn.
Okie dokie! I'm a little fuzzy on the action economy, but what she would want to do is:
1. Look for Maddy's sword
2. Move to Maddy's sword and pick it up
3. Move to stab spider in the back
My guess is that #1 and #2 would use up her turn?
Angie H |
I think I did a poor job of describing this place. I put a very bad sketch in the game slides
Ziyad |
If the arcana check revealed anything about the light, Ziyad will use the rest to further attune.
If time, I also wanted to craft a simple robe/poncho out of the spider silk cuttings he collected earlier. Cleaning them and bleaching them a perfect white with Prestidigitation etc to end up with something like this.
Ziyad |
With the strength*15 rule, 2 strength could potentially carry 30 lbs. Then since the bat is a tiny creature, this is halved. So, my familiar should be able to carry 15 lbs at a minimum I believe.
There is a Variant rule that str*5 (10 lbs in this case) would lower the movement speed by 10 ft, so 30ft reduced to 20ft for the bat flying.
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
I apologize for the long absence, there will be a post in 12 hours. Real life interferes very much at the beginning of the school year (my business is related to this).
Angie H |
I hadn't read the "floating disk" description - if it needs to float above the ground, then it won't work at all over the webs.
No worries about not feeling inspired, this wasn't meant to be a chore. We'll gloss over it.
Little brown bats are about 20g (>1 oz) - there's no way they could carry anything heavier than they are. The biggest bat on earth only weighs 2.5 lbs. I'm going to rule it can't carry anything more than 50% of its body mass, no matter what the STR rules say.
