Alexandra, it seems to me that the knowledge check in 5e is an action, that is, you either remember about them or cast spell .)
I have very mixed feelings about this rule. One the one hand, it doesn't really make sense that it would take six seconds to remember/know something about a creature. On the other hand, as a player on this forum, I know that knowledge rolls are a good way to "use up" those pesky low die rolls, which is cheating and irritates me. Also impossible to prove.
How about this - knowledge rolls in combat use your bonus action. You can have advantage on the knowledge roll, but that will take a regular action. Using a regular action for a knowledge roll is more likely to give you something helpful in the fight.
Sound fair?
I'm very curious - what do y'all think is in the sarcophagus?
Madison Kokko |
Inept treasure hunter or devious undead using adventurers’ need to save against them
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
Sound fair?
More than fair. Recalling information of some "everyday" monster/thing could be quick enough to warrant a free-action roll, but then again, digging through your brain to recall something you had read 10 years ago in some obscure monster manual about a creature you have never personally seen before and thought you'd never actually encounter in life... I could see that taking minutes to remember enough to get something useful out of it.
I'm very curious - what do y'all think is in the sarcophagus?
Either a comic relief NPC trapped there, or some ancient undead thingey just waiting to latch on to Precious's jugular ;^)

That rule sounds fine, so, bonus action to roll knowledge normally, action to do so ith advantadge?
Huet-huet 'Hue' Proudfoot |
What's in the box .... what's in the boooox!!!
Got no idea but I'm guessing a foe of the N5. Is this a grave or a prison? The vibe is definitely turning towards releasing a villain.
Rule ruling???
I think it's very judicial and I'm considering if there's a translation of that for pathfinder that I can incorporate.
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
Sound fair?
Cool!
This is a good option! And here's my idea, which also seems logical to me. Checking knowledge is not an action, as in PF1e. But sharing what you know is always an action! Because you have a lot to tell, and this is both time and the choice of words... )Huet-huet 'Hue' Proudfoot |
One of my arms is damaged and writing is a bit of a pain, getting better though.
Sorry to hear - hope you feel better soon
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
"Damaged"? Ouch. Enjoy a short holiday away from a keyboard, then ;^)

Oh no! Hopefully it isn’t too painful. Wishing you a speedy recovery :)

The story is kind of funny. I was training with my little brother, who is actually good at it (for reference the Sport is kind of Chinese-Mongolian Judo called Shuai-Jiao), we had a seminar with the acting European champion.
I wrestled with the champion, and well, got honoary promotion to paratroopers because I flew a lot. No damage to me though, he outclassed me that much he threw me absolutely safely and in fairly spectacular ways.
The actual damage came from the next sparring match, against another guy who also got very safely ragdolled by the acting champion.
Long story short, residual butthurt over getting effortlessly ragdolled in the previous fight resulted in us injuring each other.
He sprained his leg (I lifted him, he didnt want to be thrown so I couldnt really convert the lift into a real throw, and he kind of came down to hard on one of his feet, he later threw me, very surprsingly for me, so I fell badly on my right arm).
I may also have a small concussion, which explains the scatterbrainness.

Huet will keep the torch tied to the spear of warning, unless its' power is tied to the tomb and goes out

If the Fast and the Furilus franchise has taught me anything, it’s to never count someone out as dead. If Ksenia wants to rejoin us, the writers will find a way :)
Same goes for Sarith…

I'll be camping this week and I'm not sure what my internet coverage will be like. If you need to bot Maddy, please do.
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
Testing... Interesting. Seems I can post here, but not in the gameplay thread now...
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 ... so let's try and roll on this side...
Angie H |
So, we now have a long stretch of travel to get to Gracklstugh. There are a few options for dealing with this.
1) Skip ahead completely.
2) Make it a slog. Roll for encounters each day, and play them out. That's 2 rolls per day x 10 days (unless one of the encounters makes things longer). 35% chance of getting an encounter on any particular roll.
3) Something in the middle. Give you 1 or 2 more encounters and turn them into a montage of sorts.
4) Secret option that one of you think of.
I'm open to any of the above. More encounters = more XP = probably one more level before you get to "town". But I know that for some, that sort of thing is not their jam. So let me know your preference(s).
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
I think option 3 will be the best. In real-life-table I'll vote for 2, because it's not only XP but also a chance to die. But in PbP it gonna be too long (imho). So I vote for N3.
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
Yeah... I think I could live without half a dozen meaningless battles. Number 3 sounds good to me.
Madison Kokko |
I also vote option 3. And I’m back from camping and of course, brought home a sunburn.
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
Do I understand correctly that first the monster's move, and then mine? So that it doesn't happen that you are waiting for me.
Huet-huet 'Hue' Proudfoot |
Sorry all, issues with work will be making it difficult for me to post for the next couple of days. I will try to make sure it isn't disruptive.
Kalanzar Mizzrym |
GM, incredibly, but I missed this post )) Sorry!

I apologize for the low activity, I'm moving to another apartment. A couple more days and everything will be back to normal.

Does this merchant only deal in weapons or is it like a general store where you can get other goods?
Angie H |
Does this merchant only deal in weapons or is it like a general store where you can get other goods?
This particular merchants buys and sells weapons. There are lots of other market stalls and shops that sell other stuff.
Hue will make it back to the Blade Bazaar after about a half-hour absence.
Madison Kokko |
Does Precious have his own money? If not, we’d be back at zero money with his purchases. I figured the group would share the items Maddy is purchasing and she is getting a mess kit for the group.
Precious of Clan Ironeater |
Ah. I didn't realize you had money from before and thought we were going to sell something for the basics. Well, if we don't do that now, I believe we shall have to before we leave the city.
Besides, we'll need money to pay for rooms and meals in the inn too, so perhaps we should go ahead and sell some of our loot now?
Madison Kokko |
We had no money from before. Maddy bought what she did from selling the scimitar we stole from the drow. I asked if there was anything else to sell but no one spoke up with anything else that had been taken/found.
I believe the only loot we have are the gold weapons from where we found Dawn. I don’t think we’ll get good price for them down here.
If I’ve misunderstood anything, someone please correct me.
Madison Kokko |
We do have the magical short sword that can be shared between 2 users. Maddy was sharing it with Ksenia but I don’t think anyone left in the group uses a short sword and Maddy has 2 other sword choices.
We could try to sell this magical short sword for more money
Angie H |
This is what I wrote about the loot you found.
Sorting it out, he discovers that the majority of the coins and jewelry is in fact little more than shiny rubbish. He manages to sort through and find 15 gold pieces of a type he's never seen before, and 47 silver coins with a square hole in the middle.
The five jeweled weapons/book, however, appeared to be quite valuable. All looked to be made of silver and gold, with various colourful gemstones encrusted on them. He was no gemsmith, but he guessed that each one was worth at least a few hundred gold pieces.
So there is some money there too, it's just unfamiliar to you.

I think we need to figure out how much the tavern costs first. Then, pardon me for the banality, find a side quest (perhaps in the same tavern?) and earn money. And then buy basic equipment, along the way all this time asking about caravans to the surface and to the cities of our underground friends. Would that work as a plan?
