Preparation Rewards:
CLEAR THE WAY REWARD

The group does an amazing job of clearing away rubble! Appreciative of your assistance, Radaszam gives you tips on using leverage against an enemy.

Hard Once during the adventure, when rolling a combat maneuver check, a Strength based skill check, or a Strength-based attack roll, each PC can choose to roll the check twice and take the higher result.

COORDINATE COMMUNICATIONS REWARD

While working on the communications equipment, you gain valuable experience tinkering with machinery.

Hard Once during the adventure, each PC gains a +2 bonus to an Engineering check, a Sleight of Hand check, or a Reflex save against an analog trap or hazard.

EXPLORE AND REPORT REWARD

You gain some insight into the site's layout and recognize some patterns in its construction.

Hard Once during the adventure, each PC can roll twice and take the better result on a Survival or Perception check.

INTERVIEW LOCALS REWARD

You hear rumors from the locals about the dangers of the ruins.

Average The PCs hear several tales of people going into the ruins and not returning, or of people returning after months or even years had passed thinking they'd only been gone a few moments. Ghosts and spirits in peculiar clothing are also said to inhabit the ruins. Some of the locals take an interest in the PCs' investigations and gift them each a brown nanite hypopen that must be used during this adventure. A PC can use a brown nanite hypopen as a standard action on themselves or a willing or unconscious living creature to grant the benefits of lesser remove condition (Starfinder Armory 106).

RALLY THE RANKS REWARD You inspire your fellow Starfinders, and the experience buoys your own sprits.

Hard Once during the adventure, each PC can roll twice and take the higher on a Charisma-based skill check.

SUPPLY LINES REWARD

The supply teams are grateful for your assistance and grant them each a vial of magically-infused broth that heals the body and steels the mind.

Average Once during the adventure, a PC can consume this broth to gain the effects of a mk 3 serum of healing and a +1 bonus to Will saves for a number of minutes equal to their character level.

Did we have 10 minutes before coming down here? KP would have spent a Resolve at 17 SP if he had the chance.

There's only one good reason to have a hoversuit, and that is to hover. Well, that and the strong defenses, increased attack power and being 64 times your normal size. In any case, Kneepuncher hurriedly floats over the ice and slams a fist into Green.

EXPLORATION MISSION 4: THE EMISSARY

“This way.” Ixthia says, welcoming their team into a tent marked with the Exo-Guardians' symbol. “I have an important mission for you.”

As the Starfinders settle in, the copaxi takes a seat in a chair in the corner. “We've found a set of stairs along the northern side of the ruins, leading down. It seems mostly intact, unlike many of the stairways we located elsewhere in our survey. According to the interviews we've conducted with locals, a few explorers have made their way into this passage previously and reported finding a strange creature patrolling within. It seems to be some sort of guardian.”

Ixthia solemnly looks to each agent before continuing. “Its presence might prove dangerous to other teams exploring the site, but we shouldn't jump to conclusions and rush head-on into a fight. I know that you're capable warriors, but it's possible that this being can be bypassed in some other way, or even reasoned with.”

Srurdez waves a claw at the notion of poison, wafting his cigarette smoke through the air. "There's hypopens and magic for any kind of poison. Nothing cuts the stress like a nice long drag on one of these bad boys."

Srurdez spends some time sizing up the Emissary while Zargothrax talks, but plays along with the game... "I'm called Srurdez, my quest is to earn some creds while having fun, and my favourite colour is a rich purple. We know your quest and name Emissary, but what is your favourite colour?"

Kneepuncher, who has been silent for much of the dialogue, finally speaks up. "Greetings, Emissary. I am known amongst my colleagues as Kneepuncher, though I suspect you want something a little more formal" He then approaches carefully ans whispers something to The Emissary.

Spoiler:
He has a real name, I just never actually picked it out. The code name I used for him when I was developing "hobbit space monk" just stuck. Kind of like announcing your game was "Project Triangle Strategy" and not expecting the final name to be "Triangle Stragegy".

Returning to a respectful distance, he continues, "My quest... well, in the immediate sense, it is to protect those who investigate this area and discover whether it has prophets, wormhole aliens or just a lot of ice, at the behest of my employer. But in a more general sense, I guess I am good at hitting things, and I would rather use that talent to pursue a more noble goal than to oppress or destroy."

He ponders a moment. "Guess my favorite color is the shade of green I use for my hair, though it's not something I think much about."

Daata and Maxamas, feel free to post your answers to the name, quest and color question as well when you come in to post.

When Srurdez asks the Emissary their favorite color, the Emissary strokes their beard thoughtfully for a moment before answering. "MY FAVORITE COLOR? THE GOLD OF THE STREETS OF AXIS, SO SMOOTH AND SO EVEN, EVERY PAVING STONE PERFECTLY PLACED. LIKE MANY OF YOU, I MISS MY HOME."

The Emissary nods to your answers, though Srurdez realizes that some of his prior responses may have been a tad too flippant for the Emissary. The Emissary seems to appreciate well-thought out responses, especially those that give a nod to the importance of order. Fortunately for all of you, both Srurdez and Teka are excellent readers of people, and you start to get a sense of what kind of information the Emissary seeks with his questions.

When Kneepuncher shares his true name, the Emissary nods in appreciation at the confidence. "BOTH YOUR NAMES SUIT YOU. WHEN THIS TASK IS OVER FOR ME, I WILL ASSUME MY OWN FORMER NAME."

"THE ONE WHO CALLS HIMSELF KNEEPUNCHER HAS PRECIPITATED MY NEXT QUESTION. WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS IN THESE RUINS? WHAT ARE YOUR METHODS OF EXPLORATION?"

Along with your answer to this one, please give me a roll. With a successful Easy Profession check relevant to exploring, Average Survival check, or Hard Diplomacy check, you can convince the Emissary that your intentions are beneficial, and you take your work seriously, a good sign that you are the “expected” arrivals.

I will be using the EXPLORE AND REPORT reward to roll twice on the Survival check.

"Our arrival here was because of the age of these ruins as well as reports of tall tales that have spread in the area. Srurdez smiles politely as the group gets down to business. He holds his tongue on how he thinks Axis sounds boring as hell. But Srurdez knows enough about the Emissary now that he can talk on his level. "We Starfinders are explorers and knowledge seekers. We find an ancient ruin and we are compelled to discover what we can." Srurdez tactfully omits that the Society is at least partly funded by the scientific research.

"As for methods, we typically take aerial and sensory surveys before deploying an initial exploratory team to any sites of interest to ensure the site is secure enough for further delving. Care must be taken to preserve the initial condition of the site for proper research to be conducted." And all that is super boring. An errant thought crosses Srurdez's brain.

The Emissary nods as they ponders your words, and then gestures to Srurdez. "YOU SPEAK OF BEING COMPULSIVE EXPLORERS AND KNOWLEDGE SEEKERS. WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GO SO FAR FROM THE ORDER AND TRANQUILITY OF YOUR OWN HOMES? WHAT DO YOU SEEK TO FIND WITH THIS CONSTANT TRAVEL, THAT MUST TAKE YOU FROM YOUR FAMILIES AND LOVED ONES?"

With a successful Average Mysticism or Culture check, or a Hard Diplomacy check, you can explain these to the Emissary’s satisfaction. Once again, I give bonuses for great roleplay here.
