The black lever is in the down position, and as with the other black levers you've found can be moved to a neutral or up position. How do you want to move it?

DM Carbide |

The remains of the bars to the west retract into the ceiling, and behind the party the cylinder (with the green arrow pointing to it) rotates to close off the way you came from. The cylinder that Iladora is near rotates 45° to the left, but no opening is revealed.

DM Carbide |

The boards have been misbehaving for me, so I wasn't able to edit my last post to remove a mistake: the bars do not retract with the lever in the neutral position.

![]() |

"I'd also like to see what happens when you try the remaining lever position."

DM Carbide |

Meresiel detects no traps on the lever. Moving it to the upper position causes the damaged bars to retract into the ceiling, an identical portcullis to descend from the ceiling on the east side of the lever, the cylinder to the west that the party came through to turn (not revealing any other passage), and the cylinder behind the double doors to turn and reveal a passage that heads north and turns east. Looking around the corner, Iladora sees a room containing a number of things:
A wide staircase descends into darkness. A panel with a red-handled lever and a black-handled lever (both currently in the up position) is located on the eastern wall of the room. A destroyed automaton lies in pieces near the stairs.

![]() |

"Shall we try the stairs?"

DM Carbide |

You should finish this level first!

![]() |

"OK. Just wanted to see if if led to the next level down. We should record the current state of the levers."
Mrs. Book does just that as she also suggests, "And backtrack to see if any new openings are available."

DM Carbide |

There are four asterisks on the map indicating doors ahead of you, and when I get the chance I'll mark the one set of doors behind you. Pick where you want to go.

![]() |

I say the one close to Viridian & Blitz.

![]() |

Sounds good. 6 of one, half dozen of the other in my mind. I moved the green arrow to point to the door we will try and lined us up for entry.

![]() |

Yep, I am officially confused by all the levers. How much time money and magic was required to build all this? Amazing!"
Just checking in. All looks good to me.

Viridian nods to the others and will check and open the door closest to
Him.(or the one to the room far north of we already covers this one)

There don't seem to be any traps on the door, but Viridian hears sounds of movement from the other side.
Make sure your marching order is right; the approach to the door is 5' wide, and you're currently leading with your best healer.

DM Carbide |

Who's going to open the door?

DM Carbide |

Viridian opens the door!
The room on the other side is filled with steam (which doesn't provide concealment, only atmosphere) that billows from a fountain in the middle of the floor. Four heavy stone columns support the high ceiling, and a single red lever is mounted in a panel on the eastern wall. Remnants of two human-sized automatons are scattered on the floor.
There are also three active creatures in the room: a pair of leopards with unusual coloration and eyes that seem to gleam with more than reflected light; and a humanoid in rags whose face is a single large eye ringed by fangs.

"Now we got demons to deal with?" Apparently Mrs. Book know little about the planes or the difference between demons, daemons, or, for that matter, divs. Not having sight of the one in the back (actually she does not even know it is there yer), she fires off a brace of magic missiles at the leopard in the middle.

The leopards are resistant to cold and fire damage and are slightly harder to affect with magic than mundane creatures. They are able to smite good creatures, doing some extra damage to them on a hit.
The div resists damage from all but cold iron or good weapons, is immune to fire and poison, and resists spells, acid damage, and electrical damage.

Shouldn't she have line of sight from her lower right corner to its upper left corner? Hard corners should not matter for magic missile right?
