Welcome to my adaptation of Rise of The Runelords for a Modern Pathfinder Campaign.
Yes Modern. Yes Rise of The Runelords. Reskinned. Do not expect this AP to be what youre familiar with.
for some of the concepts go here- Some of the Core Concepts
Burnt Offerings-
The Rise of the Flickerman Adventure Path begins here, in the small coastal town of Bodega Bat, California. several years after a tragic fire and spate of brutal murders, the people of Bodega Bay eagerly anticipate the Annual Blessing of The Fishing Fleet Festival to launch a successful Fishing Season. At the height of the ceremony, disaster strikes!
In the days that follow, a sinister shadow settles over Bodega Bay. Rumors of biker gangs and horrors in the night and unheard of monsters in forgotten ruins have set the populace on edge. As unfortunate folks stumbling into a sinister plot, the PCs must deal with treachery, criminals, and the rising threat of a magical cult whose cruel and shadowy leaders might just have plans that noone could possibly have anticipated.
So dont expect to see hordes of Goblins, or an abundance of dragons or creatures of fantasy. Will there be monsters? oh indeed. Will there be horrors? certainly. Will we see the melding of magic and technology...or you betcha.
do you want to face off to a Demon with a machine gun? sign up.
You want to try and hide a magic sword from a police stop? bring your character idea.
You want to have a clandestine Government agendcy try to stop you from investigating whats going on? I want you to give me your concept.
This is Hellboy meets Pathfinder meets Dresden Files meets The Expendables.
Build: 20 points.
What can be played: All official Classes---DM and Player will discuss how that class fits in the modern setting. see concept instructions for further information on this.
What about races: All with a point build of under 20. Though ALL Races will be human!!!! just ancient blood flows through your veins and the DM and Player will discuss how that manifests ...for all due effects you will be the race just look human...
Alignments: No Evil. Period.
Free Feats: Combat Expertise, Power Attack, Deadly Aim, Scribe Scroll. If the class gets scribe scroll take spell focus instead.
Companions and Familiars: Choose something that could be found in the world today...No allosaurus or velociraptors or winged cats.
Background skills: yes. but get 3 Background skills instead of two.
add two skills
Knowledge: Technology Class skill for everyone)
Driving (specify sub category- Wheeled Vehicle, Tracked Vehicle, Heavy Machinery, Fixed Wing Aircraft, Helicopter, Big Wheeled Vehicles, Submersibles, Watercraft, Military Hardware.)
No Hero Points.
2 traits we will be reskinning the traits fluff but crunch will stay the same.
You will provide 3 contacts for your character within the game world.
Max Hit Points at first.
Max wealth
You have a job. its how you make a living. What is it?
What I need from the player to be considered.
1. Name (this is 20th century earth. ;))
2. Race Class
3. Profession concept...how the class fits into the 20th century...
4. Give me a brief background on hos your 'wizard/ranger/druid/rogue' is conceptualized to be in this world.
5. Why hes coming to Bodega Bay.
example.
Paladin- George Richardson, Human male
George is a devout catholic and works for the FBI. He doesnt fit in with the other Agents, because they call him a goody two shoes. Father Espinoza tells him he shouldnt feel out of place, but he cant help it. Would that change his views..never. However he still can feel it. George has always had this 'nack' for knowing when someone real bad has been around. his co workers think hes lucky...but its helped him arrest two murderers and 1 terrorist. His head starts pounding when hes in the presence of someone who is truly evil.,
Recently He took a vacation from his office in San Francisco and decided to go up the coast visiting the coastal communities of Northern California....that brought him to Bodega Bay for the annual blessing of the Fishing Fleet Festival...

How would you feel about a Scavenger archetype Investigator?
I'd just suggest swapping the Craft(Clockwork) for Craft(Electronics)

Andy Brown |
I've got an idea that would work as a (un)Rogue or a Monk (Martial Artist, because I'm not sure Lawful quite fits) if you're OK with archetypes.
Actually, standard rogue Makeshift Scrapper would also work
1. Antonia 'Toni' Smith
2. Human, class one of the above
3. Local courier/fast food delivery rider
4/5. Born and raised in Bodega Bay, left to study Mechanical Engineering at University, but is now back home helping support her father who was a fisherman until he got seriously injured.
Her dream job is to be working at SpaceX, but family comes first (and she's not managed to even get an application through yet)
Contacts (details to be filled in):
her father
the owner of the pizza store she mostly delivers for
a friend from university that she writes fan-fic with, currently working for a tech startup in silicon valley

Robert Henry |

This is Hellboy meets Pathfinder meets Dresden Files meets The Expendables.
Man, talk about a list of favorites!
So tempting! I normally don't play in two of the same AP's because it gets confusing. But maybe California is different enough from Varisia so that wouldn't happen :)
Do you know haw many characters your taking and how long the recruitment will be open for?

GMMichael |

How would you feel about a Scavenger archetype Investigator?
I'd just suggest swapping the Craft(Clockwork) for Craft(Electronics)
Id be fine.
There will be a great degree of 'customization' and GM and player will work together to make concepts work as hoped/expected

1. Name: Frederick "Freight Train Freddy" Johannsen
2. Race Class: Human Brawler
3. Profession: Special agent for "The Vault" - and international organization that specializes in recovery, storage and occasional research of artifacts from history with special properties. (Think Warehouse 13)
4. Background:
Freight Train Freddy was a professional football player for the St. Louis Rams (before they went back to LA) until he had to retire from "injuries". Best known for carrying the ball straight through defensive lines, his nickname had a double meaning because he was also well known for getting in fist fights at the closest pub, and his uppercut was said to feel like you were hit by a freight train. One fateful game, he got hit hard by 3 opponents simultaneously, injuring his back, breaking his left leg and leaving him with a concussion. While these injuries were enough to leave him out the rest of the season, management was also concerned with his increasingly problematic issues with alcohol, so they invited him not to return the next season.
5. Why am I here?
Fred Johannsen was recruited by a clandestine arm of the World Health Organization (WHO) to help recover strange and often dangerous artifacts around the world. His current assignment is to attend the Fishing Festival in Bodega Bay and look for any trouble, based on some information that the Vault has received.
Obviously, I took a few liberties here, so I suspect GM tweaking would be necessary. But this is the basic idea - a NG brawler with UMD (probably from a trait), an ex-alcoholic. Stats will have to be pretty even, but Strength would be primary (if even possible - if not, I was thinking perhaps he had possession of an artifact that made him ridiculously strong, but drove him to alcoholism and that the Vault recruited him after removing said item - and therefore his previously enjoyed strength).

TheSuperDodo |

Well this sounds like fun! Let's see what I can come up with.
Name: Adoram "Eddie" Brodenberg
Race/Class: "Half-Orc" Skald
Profession: Former guitarist and backup vocalist for The Aleppo Codex, currently striking out on his own as a musician.
Background: Born to a Reform Jewish family in Newton, Massachusetts, Eddie was a history nerd and band geek from his youth. He took up the guitar in middle school and, inspired by the likes of Iron Maiden, joined with two friends to form The Aleppo Codex, a heavy metal band whose songs are themed around historic events and epic literature. After finding moderate success around Boston, the band relocated to Los Angeles, but ended up dissolving a couple of years later with each member deciding to pursue their own path in life.
Why Bodega Bay?: Eddie managed to secure a gig at a Bodega Bay pub the night before the Fishing Fleet festival, and decided to stick around and maybe do some networking at the festival itself.

1. Sona Tanaka
2. Fetchling MindBlade Magus
3. Instagram/Youtube rising star. She is a traditionalist, showing beauty in Asian form, poise, and traditions to her growing number of fans. Many of her videos deal with cooking or making ancient Japanese items that are no longer done or displaying her various nights out on the town as a "geisha" in LA. Some are videos of when she flies back home frequently to Japan to her family's estate and their elaborate gardens.
4. Sona comes from a long line of yakuza. Some even say her family shares secrets of ancient traditions handed down among the assassin families that have not been forgotten. The gang doesn't care that she is not with them anymore, mostly because her father holds such influence. They know if she betrays them, it is her family who will suffer. Sona has upheld a good life, but still is armed with that knowledge of her ancestors.
As a magus, she will be pulling up memories and videos of her grandfather teaching her tricks as well as reminders she's made on her iphone (spellbook). She will be without weaponry most of the time. If there is a time that calls for combat, she can summon a psychic blade, which would seem otherworldly, but isn't meant for normal eyes. Usually, those who see it end up assassinated without evidence, but it is a true and real capability of those in her clan.
5. Bodega Bay is a site that she's contemplating having a house built. Her channels are monetized and she's starting to make some significant money relying on funds from her family. Getting into the housing market was one of the best decisions she made in her youth, and now she's contemplating selling her LA home for a place more chill and yet not far from bigger cities. She doesn't care about the history of the bay, but is spending time there to get to know the place; also so as to include varied content for her various channels.

Ive been busy putting info in the campaign info tab. feel free to peruse.
and Im going to give you an example of how the vehicle rules work.
so using my example of My FBI Agent (Paladin) Lets say after outfitting he had 18 Gold.
first I have a vehicle that has this for a build-
10-50 gold 15 point build and its 7 years old or newer.
I could go to 8-12 year old vehicle and go up to a 20 point build
or I could go 13 years + and go to a 25 point build
Im going to stay 15.
Next I choose my type...(which is like Class)
Im going to give George a Truck. +2 to Strength and -2 to Dexterity
Then Im choose brand which Nissan +2 Dex and -2Wis
dex cancels itself out so I have a net +2 to Strength and -2 to wis
and give him a 2018 Nissan Frontier Stats are:
Strength:16 (V6)
Dexterity: 12 (king cab...not crew cause its less versatile)
Con:12
Int:12 (SV)
Wis:10 (2wd)
Cha:12 (silver)
The parenthesis stuff is just fluff of me using what is there. knowing its a stronger truck...thus the V6. and its not a top of the line (int= gagdets) and higher wis would make it 4x4 or in some cases bettergas mileage and with cha its above average but not too stylish...so not a midnight edition ...
you got the picture?
So George has a 5 year old Nissan Frontier with a V6 engine 2wd King cab SV in silver. going with average mile a year (12k)- its got 60,000 miles on it.

GMMichael |

what does that mean...
it means in driving tasks He gets a +3 modifier to tasks involvng strength---ie pulling a car out of a ditch +1 for desterity tasks- like steering past a fallen tree. a +1 for reliability tasks Saving vs a breakdown. a +1 for using his bluetooth while steering around the fallen tree. or connecting to the internet on apple car play in a storm.
he gets no modifiers for trying to go get to the next gas station when it shows 20 miles til empty.
When he pulls up to the Sherrifs office and they see him get out of the truck...He gets a +1 for impressions, because it looks nice without being overboard.
make sense?

Robert Henry |

Shoot, Ninj'd by the GM, now I need to go read his posts.
Gosh, do I want to lean more to real-life, the Expendables or 'Dresden files'? With a Makeshift Scrapper (rogue), a brawler, a heavy metal skald and a yakuza mindblade magus, I'm thinking something more divinely inspired.
I have two characters whom I've played a little but never more than fifth or sixth level. Trying to decide between two ideas. A student at the Redding police academy who's a member of a large charismatic church in the area where her parents are on staff. Battle oracle Or a young Catholic priest who specializes in hunting Vampires monsters. Cleric
GMMicheal where are you at on Aasimar or Dhampir reskinned a little? Either character could be human, but what would be the fun in that?
Edit: yes the vehicle rules make sense :)

CucumberTree |
1. Jake Slaughter (He lifted it from a pulp detective novel)
2. Human Sorcerer
3. CIA black ops genetics program asset. Using monster DNA to create Human hybrids, the CIA has created intelligence assets who can use spontaneous magic. Jake is one. (need to decide on a bloodline)
4. Jake is sixteen. while he has been taught how to emulate a well adjusted normal person, His mind has been broken and reformed. He is a weapon for the state.
5. I'd like your help figuring that out. The reskinned AP makes this uncertain to me. Would the government have a need for an agent there?

we can make the character blend as much as you want. if you want him to stand out more go one way, if you want him to do the opposite go the other direction. ...so yes Aasimar and Dhampir are available.
Note: I absolutely do not want full characters done before i choose. Why? Because of the needed customization for the game. Vehicles, full creation will be done after choosing.

Youre asking to be a member of The BPRD (see campaign information). yes its possible to do so. The Government wouldnt need an agent there. but there might be a reason you are their. ie they wouldnt have an agent in sleepy Bodega Bay that doesnt even have a police department. but does have a Coast Guard Station.
so dont sweat reason yet. just work on the back story and if youre chosen Ill help with that.

GMMichael |

can we lease?
sure, but that just keeps you in the first category. remember all vehicles are considered to be between 7-new years of age.
Thats just fluff. I dont want to make a new game about vehicles. just give some fluff and a few things that can help make a reason to have certain cars within the game.

Just for fun this is Sariel's original backstory. It would need to be tweaked to fit a more human-like and modern timetable. It would also need edited slightly to make him a member of the clergy. then find a reason for him to be on the west coast. But the core ideas would stay.
As for the car-combat, planning on doing what I do with horses. Ride near the location, get off and fight...
He was abandoned at St Patrick’s Church, in Chicago, in the early hours of September 16, 1877. Taken in by the Nuns at the orphanage, because of the ghastly pallor of his skin, he was not expected to live. They said a prayer for him and laid him aside in the nursery, tending to children that may have a chance. They named him Sariel Patrick Cornelius, so they would have a name for the death certificate; Sariel after the angel of death, Patrick after St. Patrick’s where he was found and Cornelius after the day he was found, dedicated to Saint Cornelius on the General Roman Calendar. However he did not die.
Sariel spent several years in the orphanage at St. Patrick’s. He was always small for his size and he retained the ghastly pallor from his infancy, his hair grew in a dull red that can only be described as “the color of dried blood” with a large amount of grey. After several years when it was observed that he was not growing at a normal rate they started bringing in “specialists”. Sariel did not like being poked and prodded; and when the Nuns started talking about sending him to a special hospital for testing; Sariel decided to take his chances on the streets of Chicago.
From just a few years before the turn of the century until the roaring twenties Sariel lived as a street urchin on Chicago’s south side, picking up skills that would serve him the rest of his life, his natural nocturnal skills serving him where experience was not able to. He regularly had more money than was safe for someone living on the streets of Chicago, so he gave the rest to the St. Patrick’s orphanage.
One cold night during the depression Sariel felt a gut-wrenching pull that he had experienced before, but never knew what caused it. He decided to find its cause. As he felt the pull strengthen and then grow lax he followed the sensation through the streets of the lower south side that he was so familiar with. Finally coming to a dead end, where he watched a dark figure raise a sharp implement and stab another dark figure below. The sensation stopped. This was not the first murder that Sariel had witnessed everything told him to run, but he must know the cause of the sensations. As he drew near, the bent figure that had wielded the implement of death, raised a crucifix, and making the sign of the cross, began to pray in Latin.
Father Raphael immediately recognized Sariel for what he was, a Dhampir. The father, seeing the good in all things, took Sariel in. Father Raphael was a hunter of the un-dead, not only did he explain Sariel’s unusual heritage to him he explained how he could sense the undead and how his other gifts worked. He taught Sariel how to hunt and he helped Sariel bridge the gap between his birth and his faith. Father Raphael hid his hunting from the church, because of the turmoil it would cause. But he was able to introduce Sariel to a loose network of independent private hunters who would sometimes use Sariel’s unusual skills.
Father Raphael, through providence that made both Raphael and Sariel joke about; was the priest at “Queen of Angels church” on the south side of Chicago. When He grew too old to perform his duties as priest he was replaced by a younger man named Father John. Even though “Father John” was not a hunter Sariel saw him as a confidant and confessor. Sariel also remained on speaking terms with any new Mother Superior of the St. Patrick’s Orphanage; where he would donate money and sometimes “grease the wheels of bureaucracy“ anonymously to benefit the orphanage.
Sariel lives as a homeless transient, using several lockers at bus stations in and around Chicago to keep needed items; like fake ID’s, disposable phones, clothing, technical gear and weapons. He also keeps a couple of post office boxes that he moves mail through before he opens it. He has maintained a relationship with Father Peter, the newest priest at “Queen of Angels Church” and Mother Superior Martha at the orphanage.
In late 1998 Sariel was working on a free-lance job with a hunter known as “Mr. Little”. He and his team need a “blood hound” to smell out a nest of vampires. Little and his group were arrogant and unprepared, Sariel tried to warn Mr. Little, who would not listen. Sariel left without his cut; declaring the raid not safe. When he next responded to a “sit down” from someone in the network it was Mr. Little; with a sad story, an uzi and a desire to blame Sariel. While Mr. Little began his monologue Sariel turned the tables on him; literally, he tipped the table of the small street café over and ran off, taking two bullets in the arm and shoulder.
Since that time Sariel has not responded to any request from the network and was surprised to see the letter in his new post box.

He has maintained a relationship with Father Peter, the newest priest at “Queen of Angels Church” and Mother Superior Martha at “St. Patrick’s Orphanage”; He has a long term relationship with both of these people; like the clergy at those places before them.

Name Johnny "Mash" Ramirez
Race/Class Human, Warpriest
profession Marine veteran, paramedic
background after ten years in, most of it in Iraq and Afghanistan, Johnny got the nick name "Mash" because he was able to save guys and bring them back around when no one else could. Johnny was a Marine first and medic second and did what he had to do. He grew up in San Fran on the wharves with his folks fishing and selling fish until he got out. With his last few years in the service he got a two year degree as a paramedic and got out tired of seeing one too many brothers die.
Why Bodega Bay? Johnny wanted to get away from the big city and just got hired at Mercy Hospital.

Zanbabe |

1. Name: Zania Sheridan
2. Aasimar (of Human Parents) Arrowsong Minstrel Bard
3. Zania is an only child born to a wealthy couple (Religion: Mormon) and they jumped on anything that looked like a budding talent right away, and got her extra tutoring and coaching. She went through chess, singing, writing, and she is fairly good at all of these, but when she found archery, that is where she felt she wanted to compete, and her parents were happy to take her around to different tournaments and find her good coaches. So during her traditional high school and college years she's been around the world, learning languages, practicing archery, and singing karaoke every chance she gets. Now that she's graduated (double major in vocal performance and business, and was captain of the archery team), she owns a travel agency, which uses her talents and supports her habits quite well.
4. Her exceptional beauty and unusual hair are just attributed to good genes and good stylists. Anything more than that are just seen as weird, and looked at like "personal superpowers" on the level of always being able to get a good parking space, or being able to win those radio contests... Zania never gets dirty and never smells bad, but that is just seen as luck/good grooming, not some inherent quality of being.
5. Why Bodega Bay: Zania is always on the lookout for the "genuine native" experience for her tours, and likes to visit small towns and find a museum or a restaurant that she can bring a tour to on her way somewhere else... she scouts and enjoys whatever she can find, and then sees if she can help other people duplicate her favorite experiences. This Fishing Fleet Festival sounds promising.

Ollie-Twist |

Name: Jules Fuentes
Race/Class: "Elf" Occultist
Profession: Student, working through their PhD in anthropology and teaching undergrad classes at their university.
Background: Perpetually tired and overworked, Jules took to books as an escape from the loud and, to their mind, overbearing personalities of their parents and twin brother. They discovered an avid interest in ancient cultures and mythology, and that interest quickly turned into a passion that has driven them through the rest of their life. That same passion, though, has led them to discover hints, just pieces here and there, of occult lore and the existence of magic, and they've followed after that new lead with the same kind of zeal that they've followed their other academic interests - which is to say, at the expense of healthy sleeping habits and with the aid of a lot of caffeine.
Why Bodega Bay? Jules is here for the festival, in part brought by their twin brother, insisting that they need to be social and do something fun out of their apartment for once, and in part for their studies, being interested in how rituals are brought into modern culture.
Hope this is alright for an application, let me know if I've missed anything or if there's any questions you've got for me or anything.

This is an intriguing idea. Reminds me of Terry Brooks's "Word and Void" series. I like playing casters whose stuff doesn't have direct visual effects, so here is a fairly straight-up "good witch."
1. Miss Ruthie (Ruth Saunders)
2. Human Witch
3 and 4. Miss Ruthie owns an eponymous store in town, selling new agey knickknacks (crystals, essential oils, feng shui materials, etc), reading tarots and telling fortunes, and similar. Everyone believes it's a drug or crime front, because she does nowhere near enough business to turn a profit. The truth is far more mundane--her hippie parents were also sharp businesspeople, and she owns several houses in the fancier areas along the shoreline, whose rental income more than covers her material needs. The store is a hobby. Now, what very few people realize is that much of her stuff is real--she can "detoxify" you (Cure Light Wounds), bewitch the unwary (Charm hex), turn you speechless or senseless (Fumbletongue/Aphasia), and the like. How does she do it? Well, her parents smoked a lot of weed (and did mushrooms, peyote, and some other stuff beside) in the '70s and may have promised their firstborn to the fairies...
5. She lives here, likes it, and doesn't have to move. Perhaps she's supernaturally forbidden to.

1. Declan Ashton
2. Human - Unknowing Cleric of the California Sun God. Declan is granted spells from the Sun God, but isn't skilled at Organized Scammy Religions. Maybe make Profession Golfer checks instead of Religion?
3. Avid Golfer who is trying to get into the PGA circuit.
4. Declan loves the outdoors, especially on a sunny day. He is at peace while out in nature under the Sun's blessing. He really feels at home in the manicured greens of the Golf Course. He doesn't care for 8 hour days in the office or traffic jams. And Fax machines are for the office drones. If Declan is not at a Driving Range, the Greens, or even having drinks on a buddy's boat he is not happy. After moving out of his parents' Reno Condo and into a Fraternity Brother's boat in the Marina he has never felt better. He doesn't have to wear a tie.
5. The Fishing Festival will be the event! Declan Ashton can do all his favorite things: boating in the evening, play in the Golf Tournament at Links at Bodega Harbour, have some beers while connecting with potential clients.
Declan is always available to make that fourth to get a Golf group. So far he hasn't had to resort to being a Caddy, but has done errand for his Fraternity Brother who lets him stay on his boat in the Marina. (Or can trade the starting car for a Boat that is docked at the water front of the house in the HOA that surrounds the Golf Course. Think Thomas Magnum vibe at the Robin's Nest from Tom Selleck's Magnum PI) He does some Golf Lessions for Members through the Pro Shop.
Declan knows people through Golf. Potential Connections:
Can see Zania Sheridan with her Travel Agency being interested in Links at Bodega Harbour.
Since Sona Tanaka is looking to build or buy a home, why not one of the 725 Ocean Facing Homes in the HOA surrounding the Golf Course? Be the envy of your friends and family.
Miss Ruthie owning Rentals in the HOA. The golf course is the centerpiece of a community of 725 custom built homes overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Adoram "Eddie" Brodenberg can be playing at the Blue Water Bistro Restaurant in the HOA.
Trying to talk Johnny "Mash" Ramirez and Antonia 'Toni' Smith into a Charter Boat and Golf business. Their folks have the fishing experience... why throw nets and get grubby when you get a boat and charter some rich folks for fishing one day and then Golf the next?

TheSuperDodo |

Heh, as someone who is not at all a car person, I can't say I completely grasp the vehicle rules... but hey, I'll manage. Eddie's vehicle of choice would likely be his band's tour van, so probably a Mercedes-Benz truck of some sort?
Liking all the other submissions I'm seeing here, by the way! So many cool ideas!

Hah, thanks, Enzio. She'll have to see what's available away from the fishing area (as she doesn't want to smell dead fish all day). I think Sona definitely does want something beach-facing, but probably wants an estate rather than something HOA-related, so it may be up on a hill further away but still looking out over at the beach. It would likely either be buying a few lots and bulldozing and then building a custom build, or buying something already there that could use fixing up, but that has the land and impressiveness she's going for. Her ultimate goal would be to grow her own Japanese garden like on her father's estate and to have some grounds to do her filming, so she is likely looking in the multimillion price range. For the sake of the game, she's probably got that money tied up in investments and such and is just looking at this point. She probably doesn't have much free wealth to her name at the moment (to limit her character wealth).
Sona normally is driven by her father's man (a yakuza bodyguard) in an armored Suburban, but since she's making a trip many hours north for this, she likely will be using her own jeep for the story and beyond (also to limit her character wealth and support).
She would personally own something cute, like a Jeep Renegade. Colored in a shiny, clean Colorado Red, and capable of 4x4 but probably never used (under 5k miles). It is a few years old, but I won't bother building out its stats until I know if I'm selected.
If you are looking for a connection, however, Sona definitely will have to check out a golf course. Not that she plays often, but her father does multiple times a week and will likely come to give the links a try. She would likely become a member just to have a foot in the door.

Mentored by Father Raphael, a former member of the BPRD. to use his 'natural' talents to help fight evil.
4. Give me a brief background on hos your 'wizard/ranger/druid/rogue' is conceptualized to be in this world.
Born in the early morning of September 16, 1997 in Chicago's St Patrick's Hospital to a 'Jane Doe' who disappeared after the birth. Raised in catholic orphanage, where he came to the attention of Father Raphael. Father Rapael (a former member of the BPRD) taught him to use his 'natural' talents to fight evil. The Priest encouraged him to go to college and earn a graduate's degree. Afterwards, based on Raphael's recommendation and Sariel's experience working with Father Raphael, Sariel was ordained by the church to continue work similar to Raphael's.
5. Why he's coming to Bodega Bay.
Sariel was involved in a job with one Mr. Little. The job went south and Mr. Little blamed Sariel. Raphael, realizing Mr. Little's employer was a Chicago crime boss, recommended Sariel spend some time visiting Raphael's sister on the west coast until 'things blew over.' 'Aunt' May lived in a boring little town called Bodega Bay.

Hmm, I might actually switch to an elf or half-elf. I haven't decided. I'm thinking the fetchling doesn't match her. Asians to me have just a natural beauty that I think is displayed in elves more accurately. Perhaps even with draconic flavor of some sort, given the Asian culture's affinity to dragons.

GMMicheal, where are you at on drawbacks? Even the new shiny 21st century Sarial will be paranoid enough to use a burner phone and a fake ID. Any chance a third trait?
I know you said Knowledge (tech) is a class skill, is driving a background skill or class skill?

This is a sweet idea!
Working on it right now with a couple of race questions. The character has a mixed Norwegian and Hawaiian heritage and I'd like to pull in a fey or folklore based bit of blood.
If on the Hawaiian side it would be Mo'o represented by Vishkanya. On the Norwegian side it would be Elf represented by Aquatic Elf.
They would be either a pro-surfer or at least an enthusiast. Still deciding on class but probably Alchemist or Sorcerer.
Would either of those races be alright?

of course. for this campaign we will be working together to make the character work with how you see it in your minds eye.
As for drawbacks. I dont want to just say yes. because this is a much abused topic. people take drawbacks and they never affect the character, its frequently used just to take an extra trait.
so when we actually get to building characters after folks are chosen...so remember dont do so yet, I want in on every build so things dont go crazy with the transition.
I am putting a caveat on the Gunslinger weapon. Im going to put a $ cap on.
something else I have to work out is the wealth. items and job topic. That will be coming later this week.
Ive got ideas percolating ;)

what about Kitsune?
That also can be one to consider.

I think the only restriction was a 20RP race, so with aquatic elf being 14, that should be fine (assuming the GM doesn't have other plans). Alternatively, you could also look at Gillmen, Merfolk, and Undine!

Alright, here's my idea (subject to tinkering).
Chloe Jensen
Aquatic Elf / Alchemist
Graduate Student in Chemistry at UC Berkley.
Chloe's family has a long history in Bodega Bay on both sides. Her father's family arrived from Norway in the 1910's and her mother's side arrived from Hawaii in the 1950's. Her family has always been involved in fishing, and their fortunes have declined along with the industry in recent decades.
She was a good student, and made it into UC Berkley in scholarship. She's been away in the Bay Area at college for 6 years, but has recently taken a leave of absence to help take care of her mother, who was suffering from terminal cancer. Over the last few months back in Bodega Bay, it's become clear that she gets along with her older sister Sarah no better now than in the past.
Chloe plans to remain in town until her mother's affairs are in order before returning to school. To keep herself otherwise occupied in the mean time, she has rekindled her passion for surfing.
There is a long family tradition claiming her father's family has a bit of elf blood from many generations back. It's said some women in the Jensen family have manifested odd talents occasionally over the generations in various ways. This is true, but not obvious in Chloe's case. Whatever bit of magic is hiding in her only manifests invisibly, through her talent for chemistry and an unusual affinity for the water.
EDIT: It is so very very tempting to take the Fermenter Archetype and then Brewmaster prestige class and have Chloe instead back in town opening a microbrewery, which is about the most West Coast seaside town thing one can possibly do.
