Horst Broadrim |
Fair enough. I'd thought there was at least some way to roll a check to jump down taking less damage than a fall, but it seems I was wrong.
Horst give up on the mushroom and circles around to reach the dragon and attack.
Short sword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
damage, slashing, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (2) = 11
Short sword: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 9 - 4 = 8
damage, slashing, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (6) = 12
Thrown off by the idea of fighting a dragon though, he just slashes wildly.
GM Mauve |
There may be a rule, I'll try to find one.
Both Horst and Durnik move towards the dragon. Both of the dwarves swing, but neither seem to penetrate the hard scales of the creature. The dragon bellows and emits a toxic gas from its maw towards 1d2 ⇒ 1 Horst.
Poison damage: 5d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4, 3, 3) = 15
Horst needs to do a DC 24 Basic Reflex save or take 15 points of damage!
----------
Round 2
Horst (14/29 hp)
Durnik (36/36 hp)
Dragon
Ursk (27/27 hp)
Dragh (26/26 hp)
Everyone is up!
Dragh Goldenoak |
Dragh weaves on spell and cast a ray of frost at the dragon
Ray of frost: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage, cold: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Then Dragh extends his hand and bolt ef energy shots at the dragon
Force bolt, energy damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Ray of frost + force bolt
PF2 Pregen |
Durnik would walk next to the mushroom to gain benefit from Horst distraction and make a powerful strike with his sword
Power attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20 vs flat-footed
Damage: 2d12 + 3 ⇒ (7, 6) + 3 = 16
Move + Power Attack
Horst Broadrim |
I'm starting to feel like we're in trouble.I'm also amused that you just took off the 15 hp, without waiting for my save.
Reflex: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Correctly.
Since Durnik's moved for the flank, Horst will just stand his ground and strike.
Short Sword: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Damage, piercing, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (2) = 7
Short Sword: 1d20 + 9 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 4 = 25
Damage, slashing, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 4 + (1) = 7
Short Sword: 1d20 + 9 - 8 ⇒ (5) + 9 - 8 = 6
Damage, slashing, sneak: 1d6 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + (1) = 6
This time he strikes deeply as the dragon tries to evade Durnik's blow.
GM Mauve |
Dragh blasts the dragon with a ray of frost. It's scales shimmer with ice as it is a direct hit! The wizard blasts the dragon again with an arcane force.
Durnik moves up to the dragon, attempting to slash at the winged beast with his sword. Though his attack is powerful, he can't seem to get through the drago's tough armor.
Then the rogue Horst moves up and slashes at the dragon. He gets very lucky with two solid hits, striking an artery or something. Two nat 20's! Nice

Horst Broadrim |
And if not, I get to make recovery checks.
I think I'm actually dying 2, unless that's different in the beginner box. It was a crit that dropped me.
Horst Broadrim |
After the healing magic washes over him, Horst's eyes flicker open. Seeing the dragon still next to him, he snatches his sword from the ground, rolls up to his feet and strikes.
"I'm not dead yet, you poisonous winged kobold!"
Shortsword, flanking: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

I think we crossed in posting.
Interact to grab weapon. Move to stand. Strike.
Hope the dragon doesn't have attacks of opportunity.
GM Mauve |
Oops! Looks like I had gotten ninja'd.
Horst stands up and attempts to stab the dragon... but just can't quite hit it unfortunately.
The dragon opens its maw for another breath attack.

GM Mauve |
Other than knowing dragons have nasty breath attacks, Dragh doesn't know much about dragons. Maybe if he wasn't in such a tense situation, he could think more clearly.
But the wizard's ray of cold does damage the dragon a bit. Durnik swings and swing again, unfortunately unable to do any damage.
The dragon is starting to look hurt, covered in blood and bruises.

Demoralize: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

Casting Daze for 4 mental damage. Will save DC18

Horst, Durnik, and Ursk must make Recovery checks. But will continue on to see if Dragh can kill the dragon...
Will: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31

Tail: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Bludgeoning damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Dragh (17/26 hp)
Everyone is up again. Horst, Durnik, and Ursk must make Recovery checks again.
Dragh Goldenoak |
Dragh takes a step backwards and sends a ray of frost, he was hoping that dazing bolt would catch the creature unprepared, but its mind was strong.
Ray of frost: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage, cold: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The bolt flew missing the dragon but Dragh tried to catch it with his arcane powers and send it towards the beast
Ray of frost hero point reroll: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Horst Broadrim |
First Recovery: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Second Recovery: 1d20 ⇒ 13
I think that's enough to stabilize me. Unconscious, 0hp, wounded 2
Horst twitches and groans a little, but the blood flow seems to stop.
Also, I should have remembered to use my hero point earlier. Or that boost we got from the elemental
GM Mauve |
Right! Forgot about the elemental power. Not sure how helpful they will be for Dragh. And I believe that everyone has a Hero Point, so that can help stabilize those of you who are down.
I'll just say the dragon has 4 hp left and has AC 24. It will not follow Dragh if he leaves the room. Dragh's Ray of Frost does not hit. Will wait for the other stabilization checks before continuing.
GM Mauve |
Well, the dragon just ate, so he's not particularly hungry right now. He might save you for later... which may give you time to naturally recover HP. And if Dragh survives, he can escape... the dragon doesn't seem to want to leave this room.
Will assume Durnik uses his Hero Point to stabilize as well.
Try as he might, Dragh just can't break down the dragon. So the dragon retaliates by emitting a toxic cloud!
Breath Attack: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 4, 5, 1) = 17
Dragh needs a Basic DC 24 Reflex save or fall unconscious! Will bot him here.
Reflex Dragh: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Crit success! No damage taken. What does Dragh do? (Can someone bot him?)

Round 5

Durnik (0/36 hp, dying 2)
Dragon (-56 hp)

Dragh (17/26 hp)
Dragh is up!
Dragh Goldenoak |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
"Look champ, we are one blow away from dying here. You and me. How about we stop this madness? We get rid of the kobolds, who were trying to raise you for their purposes. But you are an intelligent creature, capable of its own decisions. What say you, will we kill ourselves here? Or is there more peaceful resolution?"
Dragh gathers magic in, what he hopes, a deadly blow.
Ray of Frost: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage, cold: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
GM Mauve |
The dragon does not seem to speak Common nor Dwarven... yet. It's still young and can only speak Draconic.
So Dragh rushes in and blasts the dragon with a ray of frost. The dragon roars out as it collapses to the ground. Waiting for the dust to settle, Dragh realizes he is victorious. Dragh, the Dragonslayer!
I believe you have some healing potions you can use to raise your companions.
In the northeast section of the room holds a treasure... but it's high off the ground. You need a DC 15 Athletics check to climb the wall. If you crit fail, you fall and take 1d6 damage. Otherwise, you can just keep going until you get up there.
There is also a tunnel in the back which looks like it slowly slopes upwards towards the surface.
PF2 Pregen |
Athletics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
After regaining some health Durnik climbs the wall and checks the treasure.
After taking it down he follow the others to check the tunnel...
GM Mauve |
On top of the ledge, Durnik finds a small chest with a huge pile of coins. In total, there is 429 cp, 63 sp, and 18 gp in this vast pile. There is also a single giant emerald atop the heap that vaguely looks like the dragon's eye, which can be sold for 20 gp
Then the group of triumphant heroes follow the tunnel. It is a long, winding passageway. You can feel a fresh breeze coming from this direction. After about an hour, you emerge from a small cave in a ravine outside of Otari. Remnants of a camp around the cave's entrance indicate that the kobolds had stayed here for some time before heading under the town to work their mischief!
Now, its time to check in with Tamily. She is relieved to hear that you all survived. "You are welcome to stay here at the fishery free of charge, now that you saved the town from a dragon! Drinks on the house!"
Tamily throws a party for the heroes that night. Word gets around that there are four new heroes in town! The atmosphere in town is jubilant. Nothing can stop them now!
