Take it easy. If you need a break, then take one. This shouldn't be a chore.

Sounds rough :( Best wishes to you/them!

Bharak Slagsun |

Indeed it does. Also extend my best wishes and understanding. That, and I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying running this, as I'm enjoying being one of your players. :)

Lvl 3: Barbarian

Class Ability: Sword and Gun
Rage Power: Scent
+2 Rage
Feat: Furious Focus

Welcome back @DBH!
@ Everyone, I noticed that the loot sheet hasn't been updated in a while. I'll try and go through things we've found on the way here, but would be nice if someone could help check once done.
Herald caller cleric 3:
+ 7 hp (5 class, 1 con, 1 FBC)
+ 1 BAB
+1 Reflex
+2 level 2 spells per day, +1 level 2 domain slot (Aid)
Feat: Phalanx formation (When attacking with a reach weapon, allies do not provide soft cover to enemies).
Though... now that I think about it, considering how lethal she seems to be with a spear, maybe a level of fighter-like class would be fitting too. Or something teamwork based...

Good feat choice. I wouldn't dip out of cleric though...losing spells is harsh and the extra feat/bab won't hold out for long.
Though grabbing power and furious focus would go along way in keeping some decent damage going.

Good news!

I tried editing the loot sheet but couldn't. I'm also not sure how to ask permission to edit it on the form. Can I have access?

Axton Vendian |

Thanks for tackling the loot. I don't know why you can't access it, since the security is set to "anyone with the link can access."
Here is the link it gives me when I ask again, which is slightly different than what DBH has linked above. If this works, let me know and we can ask DBH to update the link.
If it doesn't work, PM me a Google email address, and I can grant you direct access.

Axton Vendian |

Just to let everyone know things went well and my mother comes home tomorrow. I'll be heading home over the weekend once she's settled in.
Still a few things to take care of out in Waikanae but that will only take a day trip or two next week.
Great news!

![]() |

Oh, right! Grats on things working out all right too, DBH! Sorry about that :( Thought I'd liked the post, at least. Might have been the other thread...
@Axton I tried the link but it gives the same problem. I can see the loot sheet but I cannot enter any values or text into any field. Am I doing something wrong? I can't see a button or menu somewhere to request permission.
Edit: Found the link to request editing access, the document was in Read-only for me. Guess I simply forgot to request it earlier?

Samanthea "Sam" Scarnetti |

When it rains, it pours. 3 characters got to level up over the weekend. XD
Brawler 3:
- +9 hp (31)
- +1 BAB (+3)
- +1 Will (+5)
- Throw Shield (archetype ability)
- Feat: Improved Shield Bash

Okay, please try again. I found a setting that defaulted to view-only for some reason. Changed it to Edit.

Anyone got a recommendation for a rage power? For the life of me I cannot decide upon one. At least one that would be beneficial to the party. Being a skald is so far different than your typical barbarian for sure. :P
I once looked into playing one and I saw three main options:
-Lesser celestial totem: Everyone heals +1 hp per hit dice they have when they're healed by a spell or non-spell ability like channel energy. Useful now and kinda counteracts that AC lowering effect of skald rage. Then after that, move into things like reckless or guarded stance, or the spell-eater line of rage powers. Very good on the defence mostly.
-Alternatively, Lesser Spirit Totem and its line are pretty strong in general. The lower level version grants 'additional attacks' right away at level 3 and is arguably overpowered on a skald. It doesn't scale that well, but is always nice to have. And I think the intermediate one at level 6 grants Blur to everyone vs all attacks made from more than 1 square away, which is always good to have.
-That aside, there's always the beast totems. The level 6 intermedite one grants a barkskin effect to everyone and the level 12 one grants pounce. Personally my least favorite option as it comes online late and might not benefit everyone, but pounce. Hard to argue pounce.

Axton Vendian |

I also saw your request to edit, Elena, and I approved. Thanks again.
*********
Finally got Axton levelled. Here's the highlights:
Sorcerer 3
New spells known: message, identify
New feat: Additional Traits (Magical Lineage [fireball] and Arcane Temper)
Plus, I've got a goofy little surprise for the first time we're in combat. :)

Superstition can work well if you don’t plan on casting beneficial spells once combat starts, though it’s easier to work around since allies can choose to drop in and out of accepting the rage each round (there’s no fatigue unlike a barbarian’s rage), and the feats further down the chain are quite lovely. That being said, the skald themself can’t drop the rage as easily, so I guess that’s something to keep in mind.
What does your character think is important? What would they be excited to be able to do? That can help decide ties for me sometimes.

![]() |

All right, I did a bit of bookkeeping and the loot list is back up to date. Note that we received a 500 gp reward each from Sheila for capturing Natalya, which I did not keep track of. I expect everyone kept track of this themselves?
That said, assuming the reward for reporting the fresco and the prince is 500 gold total and not 500 gold each, we currently have 4226 gold before selling notable gear, or 845 gold per PC.
There is some notable gear we could sell. We have a masterwork rapier, mw studded leather, and a MW composite shortbow (without a strength rating?), and the big one being the +1 bladed scarf. Anyone need any of these? I would like the chain shirt for Elena to use as it's a strict upgrade.
Selling all these items with napkin math adds about 1800 gold to the loot list or 360 extra gold each for a total of roughly 1205 gold each. However, selling the bladed scarf means we lose the one magic weapon currently in the party. Should we hold on to that in case we face ghosts or such?

She would definitely consider what would be "group beneficial". While she is somewhat of a frontliner, she knows good and well she is GOING to need a TRUE frontliner(s) to be successful. So whatever would benefit the group as a whole is ABSOLUTELY paramount for her.
This is a whole new shtick for me so it's a bit more of a challenge. But I love a challenge. I'm a big time frontliner fan and that's typically what I play. I practically NEVER play arcane. Just not a fan of it. I think I've played arcane maybe... twice? Three times maybe? Right around there anyway. And that's like in my life. Which is RL and the boards. And I started playing 35 years ago. :P
Anyway, so instead of just building my guy up for just his sake to smash the baddies, this time I want to work on making everyone around Umazura better.
So I will go over the ones you and Elena mentioned.
Per Beast totem: I have a barbarian with Beast totem. And I did think about that one mainly due to the natural AC bonus. The claw attacks are pointless(I say that yet they've been quite useful for my barbarian. Nice to have a weapon when you've been disarmed and/or grappled). :) but pounce is quite cool. I'm just not sure how often that would actually come into play. But I've pondered it.

![]() |

I feel you :) For what it's worth, I tried playing a full arcane caster only once, hated it at low levels and moved into support and full bab. I like the support roles the most. Why be awesome when you can be awesome and make everyone else more awesome too? :)
Pounce is defnitely good but also very far off. I'm sure the two full martials would eventually appreciate it, though? Unless they have their own means of full attacking each turn.
By that time Elena will be a specialist summoner/healer who would prefer to hang back a bit and I probably won't ever use it.
@DBH I'm ready to continue. We each have 845 gold without selling the +1 magical scarf weapon or any masterwork item. I'm sure we could handle discussion of who wants what in this thread in the meantime?
Elena would probably buy a masterwork coldiron barbed spear and a silver light mace, a few alchemists fires and perhaps a few utility scrolls.
Shopping list:
-MW CI Elven barbed spear: 340 G.
-Silver Light Mace: 25 g.
-Alchemist fire x 4 80 g. = 406 g.
-2 x spring loaded wrist sheathes = 10 g.
-Scroll of remove fear x 1 = 25 g.
-Scroll of compre. languages x 1 = 25 g.
-Scroll of prot vs evil = 25 g
-Scroll of prot vs chaos = 25 g
-Scoll of divine favor x1 = 25 g
-Scroll of remove paralysis = 125 g
-Scroll of remove charms/compulsions = 125 g.
-Ioun Torch 75 g (to counter Darkness if we run into that at low level)
= 460 g.
-Sell old spear and buy a glaive: +2 g.
-Sell lamellar armor after taking mw chain shirt = +30 g.
> 866 g - 32 = 834 g. 11 gold spare!
Edit: *Last minute alterations: already had wrists sheets, -1 alchemist fire, make bought glaive coldiron = +22 g. 33 g spare. Bought 1 scroll of shield of faith for 25 g > 8 g spare.

Hm... it seems that somehow during editing, I lost half of Elena's profile and I don't seem to have a backup file for her :( Well, I guess I only lost the background and personality descriptions which can be gleaned from posts or she would tell at some point anyway.

GM_DBH |

Sorry, too much to do today. No time to update so Monday will be getting back into the thick of things.
Not going to talk to the Princess of the market? She might appreciate her fathers Amulet back. :)
@Elena. Yes, you must have lost the part about how lethal you are in combat. :)

Ah, sorry! I thought the mentioned reward of 500 g was given offscreen when we report it offscreen, but i'd happily rp it out? I assumed it was 500 g in total and not per person btw.
And yeah... after playing Elena for a while, my headcanon now is that the Shelynites are secretly elite special forces for the good guys, who just put up their front of dilly-dallying artisans to not attract too much attention :)

Ha!
New feat: Additional Traits (Magical Lineage [fireball] and Arcane Temper)
Oops, these are both magic traits. DBH, can I replace Arcane Temper with Spirits in Stone? It's a race trait, but for Mwangi. It fits with Axton, though, and his persistent exploration of Thassilonian things.

GM_DBH |

@Axton. Yes you can take Spirits in stone.
@Elena. The 500gp reward was from Sheila Heidmarch for the mural you found in the crow. It showed the previous Runelord of Wrath. Images of him are very rare.
The Amulet of the Souk was found on the body of the Prince of the market who vanished years ago. His vanishing is a long unsolved mystery. Plus the current Princess is his daughter. Who controls Magnimar's market. :)

![]() |

@Javell/DBH The current total of 845 each assumes we get a 500 gp + 500 gp total reward(s) from respectively the mural and the trade princess. If the latter is incorrect then I misinterpreted the post it was in. That would bring it down to 745 g each excluding whatever else the princess might give us.
However: note that the 745 each exclusdes Sheila's initial reward of 500 g for each of us for capturing Natalya. So depending on how much of that you used, you might have more. Everyone already did their shopping from this prior to visiting the crow I belive, and I don't know how much of this 500 gp each is left on every character.
Also, we have a few masterwork weapons/armors we could sell to get the money total back if no one wants them. I.E. masterwork reapier and studded leather + 1 more IIRC.

![]() |

Ah, cool. I'll have to recalculate my shopping a bit, but a 10% discount (on everything? Forever!?) is pretty sweet!
Since it's about a 10 g difference between getting 100 g and a 10% discount off of 900g worth of items, I'll just deduct that from Elena's total. Not that she has that much left then (6), but at least she'll be prepared and stocked!

I'm guessing that means I'm wrong? I haven't looked at her post or any thereafter. Did she already figure it out? I'm just curious if I'm even in the ballpark.
I've also got ENLIST and TENSIL but neither works for me. I don't like those.
Outside of that, I got nothing.

I had those three initially, then I found one more amagram for Listen which I didn't need.
Inlets (assuming that's some island type and correct as I seem to remember)
It was easier for me to solve focussing on 'The Eyes' as I could only find two meaningful anagrams and a few gibberish ones.
Though, which combination was correct became easier to consider once I ralised that...
The original words are also a clue for their respective anagram solutions.
Anagrams are cool but anagrams with added layers like that are truly great imo :)
That said Javell, any chance Uma could roll knowledge on slimes? As we seem to encounter them in the room afterwards and we probably need to know which typed/what weapons to use to kill them. Or does someone else have Dungeoneering (I believe?)

@Javell. You are correct sir!
Sweet!
And HA! I just checked the thread and see that Elena knocked it out. I figured someone might have figured it out already so I had to at least try to figure it out before I read any further.
Man that kind of stuff is just fun. :)
And will roll the slime roll.

Hey folks, sorry for my extended absence. It's been a combination of work stress and in-person GM'ing commitments, but I'm feeling overwhelmed with everything going on in my life. I'd thought - I'd hoped - that things would blow over in a week and I'd fall back into the swing of things, but it's just not happening and it's not fair to everyone else in this game to have me "here-but-not-here". I need to withdraw.
I wish you all the best of luck with the game, and it has been wonderful playing with you even for the little time I had. Punch something for Sam, and may the dice be ever in your favor!

Bharak Slagsun |

Sorry to hear that Sam. I hope things get better for you.
Anyone have any suggestions for someone to fill in the party muscle role?
I can ask around. And funnily enough, this pc turnover rate actually fits the campaign. Feels like a society with plenty of agents to use for different jobs until the ‘right team’ is made

![]() |

Sorry to hear that, Hawthile. I liked Sam, though best of wishes of course!
I don't have anyone in mind for the melee role, though I am in a discord group with PBP regulars and I could put a note there to see if someone is interested.

Bharak Slagsun |

I think I might have someone who will be bringing in an unmounted cavalier of some kind

Robert Henry |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Good afternoon all, I'm in a couple of games with Bharak. He said you all could use a melee type, that's right in my wheel house.
Hey GM_DBH it's been a while we were in Darwin's World - Tales From the Twisted Earth I played Navarre, the mutant bug with the slate chalk board.
So after taking a quick look at the players, it seems that a full BAB, with heavy armor and a reach weapon might be a good addition. I'm thinking a human either a Cavalier (archetype: order of the pike) or possibly a bloodrager (archetype: Steel blood/primalist) the first would be Lawful good, probably chelaxian, the second would be chaotic good probably from the north.
Any opinions which may suit the needs or the style of the group the best?
Edit: Would we be doing wealth by level, or some variation?
