Bharak
* Horizon walker build path it is! Thank you both. Decisions and thoughts below.
Lvl 1: Savage Technologist Barbarian
Lvl 2: Trapper Divine Tracker Ranger
Lvl 3-4: Savage Technologist Barbarian
Lvl 5: Trapper Divine Tracker Ranger
Lvl 6: Savage Technologist Barbarian
Lvls 7-10: Horizon Walker
Lvls 11-20: See GM question below
Totem Powers
- Lvl 2 Barbarian: Knockdown (Ex) (Advanced Player's Guide pg. 76): Once per rage, the barbarian can make a trip attack against one target in place of a melee attack. If successful, the target takes damage equal to the barbarian’s Strength modifier and is knocked prone. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity.
- Lvl 4 Barbarian: Impelling Disarm (Ex) (Champions of Balance pg. 23): Once per rage, the barbarian can make a disarm attempt against a target in place of a melee attack. This attempt does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If successful, the barbarian sends the target’s weapon flying—either straight at the target, or spinning away to strike another foe up to 20 feet away. This ranged attack counts as throwing a weapon that isn’t designed to be thrown, even if the weapon disarmed is a thrown weapon. The barbarian makes a ranged attack, which doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity, at either the target of his disarm maneuver or another creature within 20 feet. If the barbarian is aiming for the disarmed creature, the foe doesn’t count as being in melee for determining any penalty on the ranged attack from throwing a ranged weapon into melee. If the ranged attack hits, the disarmed weapon deals damage as if the barbarian had thrown it. The barbarian can choose to aim the disarmed weapon at a square rather than at a foe. A barbarian must be at least 4th level to select this rage power.
Rage Cycling
* Now, for my thoughts on this. First of all, going horizon walker means fewer rounds of rage, less HP, and no barbarian abilities (Damage Resistance, more rage powers, scaling rage powers, etc). What it really gives is fatigue and exhaustion immunity, which means rage-cycling.
* I love the idea of combat maneuvers. However, Pathfinder makes getting them so feat intensive that they never happen. Rage cycling allows Bharak to have the option of tripping/disarming people. That's great, as it gives him a non-lethal solution to problems! That, and it can mean turning an opponent's weapon into his own ranged weapon. How can such an option not be considered?
Horizon Walker
Lvl 1: Favored Terrain - Underground
Lvl 2: Favored Terrain - Deserts, Terrain Mastery - Deserts (exhaustion immunity)
Lvl 3: Terrain Dominance - Deserts (fatigue immunity and fire resist 10)
Lvl 4: Terrain and mastery - Cold (cold resist 10)
* So at lvl 10, he ends up being immune to exhaustion and fatigue, with fire and cold resist 10. He's from the Mana Wastes, which are a desert! So he ends up with favored terrain underground, desert and cold. And with his elemental resistances, he is immune to both the heat of the desert during the day and the cold of the desert at night. I'm quite happy with how all of that turns out. :D
What I would like to do is have Horizon Walker go from lvls 7-10 and then complete a second PrC for lvls 11-20. For this, my favorite is Furious Guardian. This PrC would represent Bharak leaning in towards working as a team with the goal of protecting those around him.
This PrC requires being a "human of northern descent" but it doesn't give any reason on why this is the case. Would you allow him to go into this PrC? I ask now, because PrCs require alot of planning ahead, and if the answer is no then I'll need to decide something else
Elena:
I'd recommend evangelist, with feats spent on prestigious caster. Yes, it means trading out even more feats. But evangelist gives so many bonuses that it becomes a really good trade.

![]() |

@Bharak Sounds like a great build with some really nifty benefits!
The issue with Evangelist and prestigious caster as a feat is that Elena traded away multitalented to gain skill training in two skills (fey thoughts), and the latter requires favored class in a prestige class. Though I suppose I could always ask if the Gm would let her retrain that racial ability if the first ability of the prestige class grants the exact same thing she traded it away for? (@GM_DBH?)
It might have some additional synergy with herald caller as that has a class feature that adds +2 skill points per level gained. I think through aligned class, that puts the skillpoints per level at 8+int, as you gain all class features of the aligned class.
To be fair though, the divine boons from Shelyn for an evangelist are a bit underwhelming. You get major image 1x/day, versatile performance in *1* perform skill, and the ability to make an artwork that can make onlookers fascinated. Flavorful I suppose, but weakish.
Otoh, for an exalted of Shelyn they're a bit better. That requires the same two feats but trades away all skill points...
Hm... I'll think on it some more should we survive to level 7-ish :)

HP: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Bharak, pertaining to your question, the "northern-human descent" is please-don't-sue-me talk for "Ulfen descent." The prestige class is Ulfen Guard. The defensive focus of the class is still pretty dwarf-like, though.
And once again, allow me to express my admiration/condemnation for one of your Frankensteinian character builds. :)

Bharak Slagsun |

Thank you GM-DBH. :)
And Axton...admiration/condemnation is the best compliment that I could ask for when it comes to the mixmash. I was tempted to squeeze a level of brawler in at lvl 6 for martial flexibility (it can really change an encounter when a single feat is needed to meet an issue) but at the end of the day decided that it wasn't really needed. I'm just glad to have the opportunity to try 2 prestige classes that I haven't touched before. :D
And for Elathras' languages...abyssal is good to go along with Infernal.

@GM Dbh Half elves have an alternate racial trait named Fey Thoughts that replaces the normal multitalented trait. Multitalented gives you two favored classes instead of 1, so for single class builds it doesnt do much. Fey thoughts replaces that with making two skills from a set list a class skill. Elena took this latter option.
However, multitalented is very good for one thing later and that is for prestige classes, both to keep a fcb but more importantly qualifying for the prestigious spellcaster feat. This requires favored class bonus in a pretige class, and grants 1 level of spell progression if your prestige class does not grant that on at least 1 given level.
In other words, multitalented would allow progressing with a FCB in the base class first and the prestige class later. My question was if this could be retrained back in the future. In case of evenagelist as a prestige class, elena would lose the two class skills from Fey Thoughts. However, the prestige class grants two skills as class skills at level 1. So technically nothing would change statistically if this trade was done at the first level of the prestige class and Elena repicked the same class skills.
All this only becomes relevant at level 7 or 9 though, as she doesnt have the spare feat for quicker prestige classing.

Wanted to drop in and ask to please forget everything I said above regarding the prestige class, @DBH. I wasn't aware that prestige classes normally cannot be favored classes, as such multitalented has no value for Elena either way and there's no point in asking to retrain Fey Thoughts at some point. Thanks for reminding me in your earlier post above, @Bharak.

Level 4 Sorcerer
New spells known:
1 - enlarge person
2 - scorching ray
New language: Thassilonian
Also, Axton's Perception was 1 higher than it should be. So I've actually dropped it down one point.

Bharak Slagsun |

Take it easy. We’re here and will be :)

GM_DBH |

I am looking after my Mothers house while she is away on holiday, and running around doing my own chores. So things may be a little erratic for the next two weeks until I'm home full-time.
Mum is staying down the Marlborough sounds with a friend at her cottage. It's a beautiful area and I've been there myself so I'm glad Mum is having a nice peaceful break.

Elathras Narcinal |

Very cool, I hope she has a good time. I was on my way to bed thought I'd check the boards one more time, I'll get a post up in the morning. Which seems funny to say, cause your probably twelve hours or so ahead of me :) (EST - 5 hrs UTC)

Javell DeLeon |

Okay, I FINALLY got around to getting Umazura up to speed. Well, I got the spells picked out anyway. Takes FOREVER and I always dread it.
Going with: Gallant Inspiration and Investigative Mind. There were so many others I wanted but I can't have 'em all. :P
Eventually I'm going to snag a couple of levels of Paladin for her. I really think that would fit her pretty great. The Fated Champion archetype. It's just hard to figure out 'when'.

Oh, but you CAN. (Not with Multitalented, though.)

Ah, hello Jesse! It's been a while. What are you doing here?
(Just in case, we were in a jungle-themed homebrew game a while ago where you played Mosely, I was Sorogar back then).
Yeah, that's good advice. Bharak suggested the same thing above. I'm not entirely sold on the feat cost of evangelist though as to get it without spell progress loss takes *three* feats (deific obedience, favored prestige class, and prodigeous spellcaster). That is kind of huge for a cleric, and you also lose Fort/Willsave progression for mostly a lot of skillpoints in return. Which are nice, sure, but the other benefits of it don't seem that useful to me.

![]() |
I play in many games with DM DBH and I occasionally keep an eye on his other groups to see what kind of trouble they've gotten into. :)
Stuff like Favored Prestige Class is rarely worth it b/c if you really want more skill points you just take Cunning and if you want more hit points you take Toughness and you don't have to worry about favored classes at all, but getting that extra caster level from Prestigious Spellcaster is sometimes handy if your class only loses one casting level (like Eldritch Knights, for instance). For Evangelist? Tough one. Most variant cleric stuff is just strictly worse than simply playing a cleric.

Yay A holiday to spend with family! Have a good time, we're not going anywhere.
Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, marks the anniversary of the initial signing – on 6 February 1840 – of the Treaty of Waitangi, which is regarded as the founding document of the nation. The first Waitangi Day was not celebrated until 1934, and it was made a national public holiday in 1974. Google is a beautiful thing
Happy Waitangi Day to all you New Zealanders!

Sorry for silence. A few days of being unable to log in, and just had ankle surgery yesterday. Will be 6 weeks until I can walk again. But at least I can still type!

GM_DBH |

@Bharak. Hope your ankle problems are solved and you recover properly. I've had a knee replaced so I know how knees and ankles can really hamper you.
Sorry about yesterday, I was at my place and couldn't log on?
Tonight I'm at my Mothers but packing up to return home so no update. I can log in here, maybe Paizo doesn't let you be logged on in two different computers?
Normal service resumes next week.

Elathras Narcinal |

GM_DBH you can be logged in on two computers, when Paizo went down it messed up some folks cookies. One of my GM's posted this.
If anyone is having trouble logging in, clear the cache for Paizo, kill the browser, open the browser, and log in under My Organized Play.
Probably other ways, but that is what worked for me.

Axton Vendian |

Yeah, anyone who can't login, can follow some of the suggestions in this thread.

"Nothing wrong with rocks!" Axton declares. "They served our primitive ancestors well. But let's see how it likes a ray of arcane fire!"

Lol! Man I feel bad now.
I can totally see Axton with that supremely confident attitude that's paired with a maniacal laugh as he launches a massive blast of fire straight at the creature, KNOWING he's about to blast this thing to kingdom come! Victory is quick and pathetically easy! he thinks.
And then his psychotic smile that formed due to his glorious potential delivering death blow drops down to a stone cold look of massive irritation/disappointment when it is all for naught.

All that's correct, except that I try to have Axton be overwhelmingly positive. He thinks everyone is doing the best they can, even the enemies he wants to burn to a crisp. So, he wouldn't use "pathetic," but he might think about how his victory was a foregone conclusion.

Elathras Narcinal |

Get better, we're not going anywhere :)
I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I really appreciate just the quick update like that. It lets us know that you're not ignoring the game.

GM_DBH |

Went to the Doctor today. It seems the anti-inflammatory's I take to deal with my many aches and pains have been ripping through my stomach lining.
Giving me a great deal of Acid-reflux. Which is very painful and constant.
She's given me something to fix my stomach lining, and changed my anti-inflammatory's. Seems to be working as I'm not in pain for the first time in week.
Resting today and regaining energy, sleeping has been difficult when you keep burping up acid in the night to go with the abdominal pain.
So things are hopefully back to normal Monday.
She also booked me in for my booster shot tomorrow when I told her I couldn't get the system to work for me. Very good doctor!

Javell DeLeon |

Crap, dude, that sucks. TRY to get some rest and I hope and pray you get to feeling better asap. And take your time, this game ain't going anywhere. With that kind of crud going on, that's just a flat out beating and it makes doing ANYTHING exhausting.

Bharak Slagsun |

That sounds horrible! Glad that it’s turning around, but really sorry to hear what you’ve been going through.

![]() |

Seconded, like in the other thread, best wishes to you, DBH! And also, yes, I also do really appreciate you taking the time to update us on current situations.

Elathras Narcinal |

Alright. Elthras and Bharak hit if you want to be pedantic.
Of course we want to be pedantic!
To the tune of the pink panherpedant - pedant - pedant - pedant - pedant - pedant - pedaaaaaannnnnnt

Is the 'I'm wiry' a meme of sorts I'm unfamiliar with? Nice accent though :) "
Hmmm, not easy to explain, it's a character from the movie 'the replacements Keanu Reeves is the star, Nigel is one of the many funny supporting characters.

Ah, haven't seen that but I do like Keanu, and if it's that funny I might go and see it some time. ALso:
A Quick message to my PBP groups: I have an important deadline to meet for tomorrow and will/have been working the entire weekend to meet it. As such I will probably only post very short messages or not at all until tomorrow night, or the day after tomorrow once I’ve taken a bit of rest. Thanks in advance for your understanding. Please bot me if needed.

The good news is it's over twenty years old and available on streaming devices. The bad news is the main plot is about non-pro "American football" players who play for a pro team during a strike. So there are a lot of references to that sport. I think it would still be entertaining even if you didn't follow the sport, because the humorous and serious issues they touch on are universal. But it's a favorite of mine because my wife and I watch a lot of that particular sport. I hope you enjoy.
Ah, a deadline at work, we all understand. Thanks for the heads up, Take care of that stuff, we're not going anywhere :)

@Axton I forgot to respond to your OOC comment earlier, but don't worry. I didn't take it as criticism. It was fair to point out, as I believe my point was that I had no better options regardless of how it was ruled. I'm fairly happy with the results :)

![]() |

@Elathras My apologies, reading that now I remember him calling out the water thing when we discussed that IC earlier as well. In my defense, that's been weeks in real life, and between different PBP's I tend to forget things at times. I'll play it here as though Elena is more worried getting chunks of devil from her clothes than she is worried about having to oil her chain shirt.
Plus, I guess, she was used to leather and only has had said chainshirt for like, three days.
