Having chosen your weapons, you move on into the next chamber.
The cavern corridor opens into a naturally domal chamber. Four stone pedestals stand before you, arrayed in a semicircle around a small altar. Atop the altar are four stone sculptures. One depicts the sun. Another has been carved to look like a crescent moon. The third is a tablet that has a small constellation of stars carved into it. The fourth resembles a comet racing through the sky.
The pedestals are identical save for the fact that each has a shining coin set into its face, starting on the left with copper, followed by silver, gold, and finally platinum.
Kaako Ashfeather II |
Kaako looks at the statues, and asks, "So which of these is worth the least, to go on the plinth with the copper coin?" she scratches her head. "So the sun is placed before the stars, so it cannot be the last one....hmmm" There is more scratching of heads....
"So the moon is either platinum or silver, last or third....well this is a riddle ...." her beak clacks as she opens and closes it.
"So if the comet is worth a hundred times more than the moon, then the moon must be silver and the comet must be platinum ... " her head moves to the side, as she considers....
"So with just copper and gold left, the stars and the sun must be placed .... oooh! it's a hard one." she clucks some more as she waits for her companions, "But we do know that the most valuable goes last... which is the comet. The stars are placed before the moon, but the sun which let me think ... is gold is placed before the stars. So we place, sun, stars, moon, comet on gold, copper, silver and platinum respectively." She tips her head to the side, "Well me hearties, you think we do it like that? You think the fates will be with us."
GM Fuzzfoot |
So, would someone like to do something besides talk about what goes where?
Max Willard |
I will if nonone else will, problem is, I was planning on Dming this, so I did read through it. So I'm taking a back seat, until needed. I do know the answer.
Hmm, puzzles me. I might know, oh, no wait. Yeah, I'll let you figure it out.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sorry - I am not clear. Did Kaako (or anyone) put the statues on the pedestal in int order Kaako described, and then Lavanna moved them? Or is Lavanna putting them in her order to start. I am afraid it needs to be very specific and I am not suggesting one ro the other is correct.
Max Willard |
Two things, first, this attacks got posted in discussion, trying to get it back into gameplay. Second, I'm hoping it doesn't have aoo.
Max moves away after being hit and cast lightning bolt. dmg: 4d12 + 1 ⇒ (5, 12, 9, 7) + 1 = 34 remembered my dangerous sorcery. Reflex save dc 21 for half.
Mitch |
”Well played, Kaako!”, says Lavanna.
I didn’t even see the riddle. Glad you did :-)
When her shipmates are attacked, her face darkens like a storm cloud. Carefully stepping out of its reach, she sends a blast of intense sunlight at the hulking figure.
Step, Cast searing light
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Fire damage: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 1, 5) = 18
Good damage: 5d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2, 5, 6) = 19
GM Fuzzfoot |
This does provoke an AoO - he has 10' reach. You would know that, in case you want to rethink your actions.
Lavanna misses with her spell attack.
Round 1 (Bold are up)
Lavanna
Jadren (42 dmg)
Max (24 dmg)
Round 2 (Bold are up)
Kaako
Giant Pirate Skeleton
Kaako Ashfeather II |
Kaako coming out of the shadows of cover, tries to stab the voice of the ol cap'n in the back.
1 action - Stride
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10 piercing and if sneak attack 2d6 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 - 5 ⇒ (17) + 14 - 5 = 26 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 6) + 4 = 15 piercing and if sneak attack 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
Max Willard |
Okay, so I attack with dagger I'm holding and then 5 foot shift step back from where I was hit: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 with +1 dagger dmg: 1d4 ⇒ 4
So yes, ignore the lightning bolt.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Unfortunately, the blades are clearly not very effective against the skeleton. Both Max and Kaako hit, but clearly the damage is not what you hoped for... in fact, Max really did no damage at all.
Resistances include piercing 5 and slashing 5. However, Kaako did hit on the second attack and sneak damage does seem to apply. Also, you seem to be getting a +4 for flanking instead of the normal +2.
Seeing Kaako come out of hiding, the giant pirate aims 1 attack there, and twists the gaff hook to cause Jadren more pain. The distraction, though, causes him to miss the tengu.
[Action 1 - Grab] Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
[Action 2/3 - Strike Kaako with claw] Claw Strike: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21
Round 2 (Bold are up)
Lavanna
Jadren (51 dmg)
Max (24 dmg)
Round 3 (Bold are up)
Kaako
Giant Pirate Skeleton (14 dmg)
Mitch |
Lavanna holds the holy symbol hanging around her neck, and extends her other hand.
”May Gozreh’s blessing grace these heroes, and smite their foe!”, she intones.
A golden wave emanates from her, passing through all in the chamber.
Casting heal (three-action)
Healing/Damage: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 2, 3) = 11
Fort save DC 21

Round 2 (Bold are up)
Lavanna
Jadren (40 dmg)
Max (13 dmg)
Round 3 (Bold are up)
Kaako
Giant Pirate Skeleton (25 dmg)
Kaako Ashfeather II |
Kaako disappointed that she only struck once, goes for a different tack. After striking with his rapier he squarks loudly "Bring the storm's wrath to me!" and a shot of electricity sparks from his feathers straight at the skeleton.
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (10) + 14 = 24 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 6) + 4 = 12 piercing and if opponent flat-footed 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5
2 action - Cast spell electric arc, (Storm's Lash feat) basic reflex save DC=19 for 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 3, 4) + 3 = 14
Jadren Tagar. |
Jadren sees Kaako's sword do little but tickle the giant, so he decides to try something a little different. He smacks the skeleton with his shield boss, and then gives it a swipe of his sword for good measure. Then, he lifts his shield back up gor protection.
2 actions for strikes, 1 to raise shield.
Shield Attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Sword Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Damage: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10
GM Fuzzfoot |
Jadren's shield does as much damage as his sword, clearly more effective at breaking bones than slicing them.
Reflex save vs electric arc: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29 Critcal success, no damage
Reflex save vs lightning: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (13) + 15 = 28 Success, half dmg -5 for resistance
The skeleton again splits its attacks between twisting the weapon impaling Jadren and swiping a claw at Kaako.
Grab Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Claw Swipe: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (9) + 19 = 28
Slashing Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (3, 5) + 10 = 18
Round 3 (Bold are up)
Lavanna
Jadren (59 dmg)
Max (13 dmg)
Round 4 (Bold are up)
Kaako (18 dmg)
Giant Pirate Skeleton (63 dmg)
Kaako Ashfeather II |
"We'll get the ole cap'n down, don't give up." laughs Kaako as he continues with his assault. However seeing that the arc did
not seem to trouble the big bag of bones, Kaako tries to damage the undead with his rapier once more. However every time he strikes, he seemd to find the space between his ribs, not managing to strike once. "Arhhh me hearties, his heart is hard to reach, his bones rattle and roll, but still I didn't hit."
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 5) + 4 = 10 piercing and if opponent flat-footed 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 - 5 ⇒ (2) + 14 - 5 = 11 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 = 8 piercing and if opponent flat-footed 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 - 10 ⇒ (9) + 14 - 10 = 13 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 4 = 10 piercing and if opponent flat-footed 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
GM Fuzzfoot |
As Kaako keeps missing the bones, the clockwork parrot flies in and around the battle. "Why did you take a weapon if you aren't going to use them?" it caws.
Jadren Tagar. |
"If you insist Cawlo." Jadren smacks the skeleton with hia shield again, drops his sword, and pulls out the gaff. Then inspiration hits and he tries to trip his foe.
1 action to Strike, 1 to Interact, 1 to Trip. I'll drop the gaff if I critically fail.
Shield Smack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Athletics to Trip: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26
GM Fuzzfoot |
Jadren trips the skeleton which falls flat on his back! He also manages to smack him pretty good with a shield.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
Max's lightning bolt hits the pirate square in the shoulder. While the creature seems to resist some of the electrical damage, clearly this was more than it ould handle, leaving soem charred bits in its place.
The skeleton tries to stand. AoO from Jadren and Kaako before I resolve the rest of his turn.
AoO (Bold are up)
Jadren (59 dmg)
Kaako (18 dmg)
Giant Pirate Skeleton (94 dmg, prone)
GM Fuzzfoot |
The giant takes a small slam from Jadren on his rise, but rise he does.
Again a continued grab on Jadren to twist his impaled body in pain, and a claw attack directed at Lavanna this time.
Gaff Damage: 1d10 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Claw vs Halfling: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20 Miss! The only roll that could have...
Round 4 (Bold are up)
Lavanna
Jadren (74 dmg - unconscious, prone(ish) and dying 1)
Max (13 dmg)
Round 5 (Bold are up)
Kaako (18 dmg)
Giant Pirate Skeleton (102 dmg)
Kaako Ashfeather II |
"Let's see if I can get you this time, Capn." but as Kaako makes a pig's ear of her first strike, she tries the magic again.
1 action - Strike +1 striking rapier 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 damage 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 4) + 4 = 11 piercing and if opponent flat-footed 2d6 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7
1 action - Cast spell electric arc, (Storm's Lash feat) basic reflex save DC=19 for 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (1, 1, 2) + 3 = 7

Psst! Lavanna is handing you a club. You might want to use it
GM Fuzzfoot |
Ref save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (17) + 15 = 32
The skeleton doesn't react to electric arc, but it does seem to feel the slam of the magic missiles.
Jadren regains consciousness almost as soon as he passes out. Unfortunately, he has dropped his weapon and shield in the short period of time he was out, and he is still impaled.
Jadren, luckily this happens BEFORE you needed to roll your recovery!
You do have wounded 1 condition, though, and still get to act, though.
GM Fuzzfoot |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
That is enough to knock the pirate bones down! He is now prone, and Jadren has 2 more actions if he would like...
GM Fuzzfoot |
Jadren manages to strike the pirate with a shield.
The pirate stands up (provoking from Jadren, at least - right?).
GM Fuzzfoot |
Jadren, clearly gettin gtired and frustrated, bashes in the skull of the pirate as it tries to stand. The bones clatter to the ground.
Suddenly, on the south wall, another secret passage opens up, revealing a set of stairs that descend into darkness. As soon as this occurs, the clockwork parrot swoops down into the room and circles once before soaring down into the newly revealed corridor.
Assuming you follow...
Cawlo hops precariously across the lid of the nearly empty treasure chest as the voice of Captain Renlock echoes from its metal beak once more.
“My friends. You truly were the finest crew I ever had the pleasure of sailing with and I am sorry to say that the promised treasure was a ruse. I hope you will forgive me, but I turned it over to the Andoran captain in exchange for his promise to be lenient on all of you. That treasure bought your freedom and I can’t think of a finer purchase.”
The bird grows silent for a moment, before leaping off the chest to perch atop the moldering drapery on the far side of the chamber. The voice continues.
“But fear not my friends, because an old pirate like me always has one more secret, and this one is for you.” With that, the parrot tugs at the curtain, which falls away to reveal a short passage that leads to a secret cove hidden on the far side of the island. There, sitting above the waves in a dry dock, is a glorious sailing sloop in near-perfect condition!
The parrot continues. “I had a few enchantments cast to make sure it was ready for you when the time was right. The ship is yours. Take it and see the world that I never did.”
Congrats! It was looking a little rough there, but you all managed to survive! I already reported this last week, but will post chronicle sheets shortly. Sorry my pace is so disjointed, but I hope you had fun.
Mitch |
Lavanna gasps at the sight. ”That old sea dog!”, she says with a grin. Curtsying at the parrot, she adds, ”Thank you, Cawlo” She casts one more spell, and the healing wave emanates from her again.
Heal: 3d8 ⇒ (6, 4, 7) = 17
Peeking out of the passage, she checks the weather. ”Looks like the wind is in our favor”, she says. Then she turns to the others. ”What do you say?”
Kaako Ashfeather II |
Kaako sighs with relief as she sees the bones fold, "Well me mateys, Jalden seems to have got the better of this giant bag o' bones. Ahaa! treasure awaits!"
But before she can search for the treasure, she watches as Cawlo starts into a secret passage... She strides boldly after the metallic bird, but her beak drops when she hears that there is no treasure.
See the ship, Kaako gives a whoop of joy, climbing onto the ship, she grabs the rigging and leans outward, her rapier in one hand standing 10ft above the deck. "The salt sea beckons, better than any treasure, let the sails fill and the hunted become the hunters!" She lets the wind ruffle her feathers her rapier pointed towards the blue shy, a wild happiness across her body.
"Come Lavanna, Elsir, Jadren and Cawlo, adventure and treasures await!"
