Given we are on a timer, do we actually want to visit the Locathah? I think that between us we have made all the DC's so far and have all the clues...

I think it's quite possible we have already narrowed it down to a single location to go looking for our missing colonists.

I won't penalize you for visiting the locathah.

The timer is mostly for taking lots of rests, waiting days on item purchases, or taking multiple trips back and forth from islands.

The biggest time sink in Book 3 is island travel.

The in-game soft timer is two weeks.

I went ahead and posted the remaining checks as repeated skill rolls aren't as fun without in-person responses. We are nearing the end of the first 1/3rd of Book 3!

The party has a big question to contend with on a soft-timer of two weeks (set by Ramona) - will they decide to press on through the storm or wait it out?

@Gm Ventiine,
1) what do you mean by " If two people carried the boat, you'd cut down considerably on time... But your arms would probably be sore." Can we save time by portaging overland somewhere?
2) Could we get a sailboat (or rig a sail) and save ourselves a lot of effort?

@Party, can we figure out some clever way to avoid the storm while pressing on?

From the checks Talath made it looks like we'd arrive just before the storm. Surviving the storm itself, without shelter, I'd go with Water Breathing in case anyone gets washed out to sea.

So, I think I misplayed the (CLUE) portion because it does factor into racing the storm timer - oops! (Each clue reduces the time it takes to follow the tracks, but they also eat into the storm timer. It is confusing.) Let's just say you will cut the time in half by going across land first, missing most of the storm.

Mauro 1) The two people carrying the boat will be fatigued upon arrival.

Mauro 2) Boats are rare and valuable commodities on a barely developed island. Unfortunately, you can't just get or build a boat. Crafting something like that would take at least a week. Recalling the very beginning of Book 1, one of the ship's boats was sabotaged under the dock, hampering the colonists from going anywhere far.

I don't know the official nautical term, but in this Adventure Path, each huge supply/colonist ship has two ship boats - one on each side of the ship. Ramona is offering you one of the two ship boats for your rescue mission. Technically, I believe they only fit 6(?) They have ship boats in the 1e Skull & Shackles Adventure Path.

Here is a sloppy trail of where the party needs to go. You could attempt to swim the required miles across the open ocean to reach the other island. The shortest distance between the islands is the brown line, measuring 15 miles.

On the map, the small, skinny light blue is the coastline. The darker blue is ocean.

TL:DR:
1. row the boat along the coast and arrive to the designated location right as the storm hits (red)
2. carry the boat over land, giving two party members the fatigued condition BUT you arrive before the storm (orange)
3. wait the storm out, effectively eating x # of days out of the two week soft timer

Talath, that is correct - you would arrive before the storm.

The first 1/3 of book 3 is mostly skill checks but the rest of book 3 is quite good

@GM: Not trying to step on toes but, in case you're curious, you're correct that the Skull & Shackles AP has the Ship Boats listed. It's the only AP I've played besides this one. :)
If you're curious they have ships listed in the S&S Player's Guide so it's a free download. Let me see if this copy and paste will work:

"Ship’s Boat
Large ship
Squares 1 (10 ft. by 20 ft.) Cost 500 gp
DEFENSE
AC 9; Hardness 5
hp 120 (oars 60, sails 40)
Base Save +2
OFFENSE
Maximum Speed 30 ft. (muscle or wind); Acceleration 30 ft.
CMB +1; CMD 11
Ramming Damage 1d8
STATISTICS
Propulsion muscle, wind, or current
Sailing Check Diplomacy or Intimidate (when using muscle);
Profession (sailor) (when using wind or current)
Control Device oars
Means of Propulsion 6 oars, 10 squares of sails (one mast)
Crew 4 to 10 Medium rowers
Decks 1
Cargo/Passengers 2 tons/up to 12 passengers (depending
on size, a ship’s boat can carry up to a total of 16 Medium
creatures, either as crew or passengers)
Ship’s boats are usually carried on the decks of larger
ships to use as tenders to ferry passengers and cargo
from ship to shore or between ships. Some ship’s boats
are reserved for the use of off icers, while others are used
as landing craft or to carry boarding parties. An average
ship’s boat is 16 to 24 feet long (though the largest ship’s
boats can be upward of 30 feet long) and has anywhere
from four to 10 oars as well as a single mast with a
square or lateen sail. A ship’s boat has a waterborne
speed of 2 miles per hour or 20 miles per day. A ship’s
boat cannot carry any siege engines. This stat block can
be used to represent any of several types of ship’s boats,
such as cutters, gigs, jolly boats, launches, longboats,
or pinnaces, as well as other small, open boats such as
faerings, sampans, and whaleboats."

I'm guessing that's why Ramona said we'd need the ship to carry the survivors back; it has the capacity to carry a few of them. Compare the Ship's Boat above to the Swan Boat Feather Token:
"Swan Boat: A token that forms a swan-like boat capable of moving on water at a speed of 60 feet. It can carry eight horses and gear, 32 Medium characters, or any equivalent combination. The boat lasts for 1 day."

If the party has the chance to set spells Talath could pray for two castings of Lesser Restoration to eliminate the fatigued condition. Otherwise it looks like Option 1 might be the best.

Talath, Thank you for posting the stat block of the boat.

My next Gameplay post will be the party's arrival to the peninsula. I want two players in agreement to proceed.

Everyone take your time. I'm simply posting to let you all know I am here and not AWOL

No problem. It's vacation time for some people and for others the kids are going back to school so it's a busy/hectic time of the year.

Happy Friday to you too. :)

Since we are on the third and final book, I am starting up a Kingmaker campaign. Here is the link. I wanted to give you all first dibs before I go searching for players because you all already know my GM playstyle.

If you want to join, please PM me. (Or if you know someone who is interested in Kingmaker you can suggest their name.)

I also understand many of you are already full on games, so no pressure to join. There is currently a druid, fighter, sorceress, and bard. I would like to start the game with six.

I'll update later today when I'm home from work.

I'm filling out PFS Chronicle Sheets. If you want me to include your Pathfinder Society # please private message me. Otherwise, I'll fill out all the spots I know!

Does anyone know what I should put (if anything) for EVENT and EVENT CODE at the very bottom?

I will upload the Chronicle Sheets to my Google Drive and private message you each with a link to yours.

Man, I passed out on the sofa as soon as I got off work. I woke up at some point and managed to post in Discussion yesterday before falling back asleep! XD

I figured out how to report the Ruins of Azlant books for PFS credit. Does anyone else want credit? I will need your PFS # and character slot # to apply it to.

I can report Book 1 and Book 2 since they are completed.

Also, since we are on Book 3 and it's a fresh loot sheet, I'm happy to take back over the responsibility. Just let me know if that is acceptable

Not going to help now but for the future, and for other PCs, it's always a good idea to carry some of this:

Holy Weapon Balm

It's good stuff.

As we play through this book, you might notice a generous amount of loot. I think this is because Book 3 doesn't expect you to return and sell.

I meant to bring this up in yesterday's post but forgot.

If THIS is where Mauro's skeleton got grabbed and damaged, it shouldn't have: the attack roll was a natural 1--an automatic miss.

I'm happy to recap the party's options in my next post if needed. Regional Map (link)

I'll update tomorrow

The loot sheet (link) is updated.

I have Asher claimed the Lens of Detection, but nothing else is claimed yet. Feel free to select your name from the dropdown menu if you want it.

Again, I don't think the party will sell or purchase items in Book 3 but you never know.

For 'using now' purposes Mauro is a good choice for the Scabbard of Many Blades since he could store his ranseur in it.
The interesting point about the Necklace of Adaptation is that it doesn't just provide water breathing; it allows the wearer to breathe even in an area with gasses (Cloudkill) or in a vacuum.
Becky can Bluff and Bards and Arcanists have Alter Self on their spell lists so they can pass it between them to disguise themselves.
Mauro and Asher should have the Potions; worst case scenario they're the toughest first aid medics to revive a flattened Talath. 8)
The Ring of Swimming should go to a PC without a Swim speed.

Happy birthday to our DM!

I am visiting family with my wife and kids in SC. We went to a hot air balloon festival yesterday and took a tethered ride. Our girls got a thrill out of it, although my almost 5-year-old thought it would be a long ride, like the big balloons were doing across the field. But at $300 oer person and being subject to the winds, we decided against that option.

Thank you, thank you! I'm working on a post now!

That sounds like a really memorable experience, @Asher! I'm not sure if I would be willing to pay $300 for a hot air balloon ride but I could see myself dropping that money on a hockey game. (I'm not too fond of heights.)
