I'm going to have to rethink my loadout once we get back on the boat. I should have gotten a two-hander for use on land since I power attack anyway. Maybe something with a point on it, like a lucerne hammer. If none are on ship, I'll order one and maybe ask to buy a greatsword for now.
At least now I'll be able to shoot into melee without taking the -4 penalty.
Hence the Lucerne Hammer or Halberd... good damage die, bludgeon or slashing + Piercing, piercing, reach for the LH, trip for the halberd, and both can be set to receive a charge.
I wish they made a 2H version of a Trident for flavor.
Or maybe a Nodachi if Eastern weapons are allowed.
Abeowin N'thera |
Asher: look at the war trident from classic monsters revisited.
Think that is what you're looking for flavor wise.
Asher 'Cinnis' Regillenus |
Unfortunately, it's 3.5, with special effects for very specific NPCs.
A halberd has the same damage and critical multiple and can brace and trip as well. I'd probably buy both a greatsword for land due to the crit range and a halberd for underwater use.
Abeowin N'thera |
ah hadn't caught that. I use herolab for most my stuff and it is there as a pathfinder so nice to know the error. thanks
Asher 'Cinnis' Regillenus |
No worries.
I use it also, and have been tripped up in the past by not having only official sources selected when playing at tables that are first party only.
Becky Beys |
Becky's all for diving before boarding the Peregrine; that way, she doesn't have to deal with her mother until after the potential problem has been investigated.
Mauro Ocela |
Good AC! My critical didn't confirm with a 19!
@Gm Ventinne, what does "and attach" mean on that bite attack? Do I need to make a CMD check? Am I auto-grappled or some such?
GM Ventiine |
The creature has the special ability attach (link) when it makes a successful bite attack. The creature is grappled to the target (you), but the target (you) is not grappled.
Brodigan Fallemar |
Bey had asked Ramona who the "troublemakers" on the Peregrine were. Did she give us an answer on that? We kind of jumped right into the combat and I think that may have been missed.
Mauro Ocela |
Folks, we need to pay a LOT more attention to the rules of this kind of skill challenges
1) Each person can make a total of 2 Checks= 2 for Mauro, 2 for Becky 2 for Asher, 2 for Anne, 2 for Brodigan, 2 for Abeowin and 2 for Crispin.
2) We need to succeed at 4 checks to discover, what the various groups want.
3) once we have discovered what influence checks we need, we can try to make them.
Mauro made the check to discover Perrel Bey's need (a diplomacy check of uncertain value). Don't burn your skill checks repeating that!
We need someone to 1) make a K Nature check for Faedwyr 2) a Sense Motive Check for Antona and 3) Either a K Local or a K Nobility check with Harcourt
Once we know what we need, we can figure out how to make the influence checks.
Abeowin N'thera |
I have nothing that will help with the discovery checks. In fact I take -2 to anything I'm not trained in.
Crispin Xantrian |
Can we switch Crispin's Knowledge History roll to nature then? Ignoring his fumbling attempts at Diplomacy as well. :)
GM Ventiine |
Sure, sure! Just reroll, Crispin. This is an interesting section/skill challenge of the book. I hope it's not too confusing for people. We won't have another skill challenge like this until book 3.
I can add a third roll if you all think it's too difficult but I would like to see where we are at before that. The party calming down 3 out of the 4 settlers counts as a successful encounter. So the party could, hypothetically, choose to ignore one of the settlers completely and do just fine.
The party is essentially making a "discovery check" to see why a settler is upset, then making a "influence check" to make the settler not upset anymore.
Becky Beys |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Becky's got a +9 modifier for Knowledge (nature) if we opt to have her use her final roll on Faedwyr's Discovery. She's only got a +2 modifier on Diplomacy checks with most people, but she's also got that +2 bonus if she deals with her mother. I'd need to roll decently, though, with a dice roller that kinda hates me....
I played part of Book 1 of this AP with another bard character in which the party failed woefully in trying to convince the would-be mutineers to give up their thoughts of returning to Almas and instead remain in Talmandor's Bounty. When things turned physical, I figured My bard can take the mousy little historian/nerd--no problem! and tried to grapple Perrell. Well, my overconfident bard quickly found herself pinned by Perrell and likely would've subsequently been tied up with measuring cords had the other PCs not intervened and rescued her! Thoroughly embarrassing!
Crispin Xantrian |
I've made the Knowledge Nature check, so Asher who I think is the only one with BAB +2 can stiffen his spine.
Sense motive, Knowledge Nobility or Local aren't on Crispin's skill list so hopefully someone else can fill those.
Failing that maybe someone can seduce Perrell for the team?
Abeowin N'thera |
I have no knowledges. I have bluff +8 but don't think that will help. My diplomacy is +2 unless harcourt then +0. So I will be good at assisting an influence check that needs diplomacy but not good at most everything else.
Becky Beys |
Failing that maybe someone can seduce Perrell for the team?
Ewwwwwwww!
Becky covers her ears but then decides the better plan is to cover her eyes....

Huh? Crispin, your sheet shows K Local at +8. I was about to suggest that you try to figure our what's up with Harcourt. The alternative is to use Becky's Loremaster to get it (and it might be better to save a) becky's last check for Diplomacy on her mom, not to mention if one of the two hidden checks is a knowledge, she has Loremaster up her sleeve).
Becky Beys |
Ooh...nice catch on Lore Master! That's a guaranteed success on any Knowledge check if we go that route.
Asher 'Cinnis' Regillenus |
As the only +2 BAB character, I guess I need to do the demo for Trundlebrook.
What would the AC or DC of an archery demo be? I could have Asher demonstrate archery, or spar with Mauro. Otherwise, Mauro has the highest strength, is we just need a naken Strength check.
GM, what are the options?
Becky Beys |
OK, since we don't need to change the attitudes of all 4 troublemakers, I'm thinking we pile our last checks on the three we made successful Discoveries against and hope for the best!
UPDATE: Woo-hoo! I was tempted to favorite my own post! Dice roller finally didn't spit in my eye!
Crispin Xantrian |
Oh dear. I completely missed my own skills! And I made him as a knowbot as well.
Crispin will try the Knowledge local then. He can figure stuff out, it's the next step he has problems with. :)
Crispin Xantrian |
Ok, Crispin has figured out Carrolby's problem, we need someone with Diplomacy to massage his ego and get him to stop pouting.
Becky's used her actions & Crispin has used his on Knowledge rolls. Anyone got both Diplomacy & an action left?
Brodigan Fallemar |
I'm gonna give the diplomacy a shot. +3 isn't great...and I can just give it a straight roll (no bonus) with Anne if her master blows it...
And yeah, probably didn't get it with those rolls. Sorry, everyone.
Asher 'Cinnis' Regillenus |
Where's the paladin when you need her?
So,
Asher won over Faedwyr Trundlebrook with a show of prowess
Becky won her mother over with Diplomacy
Did Bey's threat work on Antona Sedgewick?
If so, that's three out of four and we are past the challenge.\
If not, Mauro and Asher can lean on her with intimidation.wwwwwwwwwww
Nevermind.. Asher got lucky with Carrolby.
Abeowin N'thera |
I will be out of town saturday and I don't believe I will have service. I may not be able to post till Sunday some time.
Brodigan Fallemar |
No worries! I just arrived home. I'll try to post tonight after raid or tomorrow after a good night's sleep. I wasn't thinking and hit the road back from DC during rush hour. It just about doubled my drive. Plus it was raining the whole time. Pretty foggy bleh.
Glad you made it back safely and hope your time away was enjoyable :=)
Mauro Ocela |
Good to have you back Ventiine.
A couple of questions of course (a GM's work is never done):
1) There are 2 colors of water on the map you've put up - how deep are they?
2) You mentioned that the ships can be treated a town (for buying magic items). Can I find some equipment, (in particular) light armor for sale (by preference a hide shirt - 20 gp) while we sail over to the flooded cave?
*******
Also, for the party, "take care of the problem": is this kill em'all and let god know his own, or do we have a ethical question here? (I can play it either way).
GM Ventiine |
Thanks Bro and Mo! XD
1. When the party rows out to the cove, they realize the light blue is one foot deep. The darker blue is five feet deep, but it's not a sheer cliff between the too. We can imagine a gradual slope in some places between the two. I will post a blurb about the cove entrance as well.
2. Yes, the party can sell aboard the Peregrine. Since the hide shirt is fairly cheap, one of the sailors can go below deck and procure one as the Peregrine is sailed closer. For party selling in mass, the sailors would want to wait to dock at Talmandor's Bounty first.
Grindylows are a goblin variant so I'd assume Ramona would be fine with the party killing them. However, if the party would rather try to solve things diplomatically, I won't prevent you from trying and making the diplomacy rolls. Following Pathfinder rules, expect more than one diplomacy roll for hostile creatures to improve their attitude towards you. I hope that answers things. :)
Abeowin N'thera |
Just a reminder I will be out of town tomorrow where I don't think I will have service. Might not get a chance to post till Sunday.
Bey will remain on Posh due to the water being to deep for his just over 2 ft height. He will wait for an opportunity to use his sling against a non-melee combatant.
If we are out numbered or go into another combat, he will summon a infernal dog if on land and a celestial dolphon if in deep enough water trying to get a flanking position.
Then he will go back to his sling from the back of Posh.
Hopefully I get a chance to get some rolls up later to help with this.
Becky Beys |
I have Easter plans this year, so my posting may be limited.
Happy Easter to all!
Asher 'Cinnis' Regillenus |
Happy Easter to all today’s celebrants. I’m Greek Orthodox, so our holiday is still a ways off. I will be incommunicado that day for sure.
Abeowin N'thera |
I'm back. I will be a bit slow posting to day with it being holiday and all. For those that celebrate easter happy easter. For everybody make it a blessed day
