Zeno arcs higher into the air and calmly places his sturdy ebon arrow deep into the stone statue's skull, sinking it to the fletching. The dinosaur and dwarf do their part to finally end the lich's reign with tooth and axe. She crumbles to dust in Setare's arms leaving only her tattered robes and a few baubles behind.

The undeterred golem steps forward and mindlessly pummels Ginger, before it once again unleashes its pulse of slow.

Grand Lodge

Fate in the Future ||| xxx2 ||| xxx3

@Zeno It seems Ranalus can access the spell after a night's rest, so no need to waste your boon. You may need it in a pinch sometime...

The baton is a white, slender rod engraved with decorative emblems of elephants, jackals, alligators, and other wild beasts, and would be worth a small fortune because of its masterful craftsmanship alone.

Yet, Rallas is able to activate the baton and the nine remaining statues activate and turn to him on que like dutiful soldiers. Through trial and error he is able to command them to move to and fro, but because of their sheer size and stony composition, they are simply not able to fit out the entrance door to the cavern outside. Zeno warns him that the baton is capable of controlling perhaps three dozen of these creatures but each command uses up some of the magical energies, so it is not a plaything.

Specifics of the Spellcraft roll:
The wielder can command the obedience of golems within 120 feet when she activates the device (a standard action), bypassing their immunity to magic and any other resistances to magic they may possess. Up to 300 Hit Dice worth of golems can be ruled at once with an ivory baton. Ruled golems obey the wielder as if she were their creator. Still, if the wielder attacks a ruled golem or gives it a command that is obviously harmful to it, the magic is broken. An ivory baton can be used for 500 total minutes before crumbling to dust. This duration need not be continuous. For each golem ruled beyond the first, multiply the number of minutes expended by the number of golems ruled (so, for example, a creature wielding an ivory baton to control three golems effectively expends 3 minutes of the rod’s total duration every minute). In addition, an ivory baton acts as a golem bane scarab as long as its wielder holds the rod in one hand.

--------------------------------------------

The group spends the next day repairing the books and healing up.

After consulting with Marianix Karn, she indicates that perhaps the obelisks have something to do with things. The two obelisks are covered in carvings of tentacles and talons, and radiate strong conjuration magic. There appears to be a fist-size notch in each that lays empty.

As she exits the tomb, Karn also remarks on the heft of the sarcophagus and wonders out loud what might be inside...

The sarcophagus doesn't detect as magical. After considerable effort, your group is able to move the heavy gilded lid. The interior is crammed with leftover, long-spoiled alchemical and arcane reagents though those few that remain intact could fetch a hefty price from the right buyer.

DC 25 Knowledge (arcana):
You can identify the reagents as being used in rituals to become a lich.

The obelisks present more of a challenge to understand. One of you will inevitably turn to the books you have carefully preserved, if only through boredom.

DC 15 Linguistics check:
One of the surviving Jistkan books you preserved contains several pages with fine illustrations that describe how to operate the obelisks as a teleportation device for the golems, but you seem to lack something they describe as a power crystal.

Still in undercommon...

"Ha, they left you all those lovely machines but no way to move them. They are so very slow. No crystals for the surface-walkers." Agajprak laughs as she reaches into her cloak and pulls out a bright white crystal. "They look like this. There used to be many, now there is not. I would part with mine for a price. Two-thousand and five hundred of your golden coins."

She extends one hand for payment and closes the other over the crystal.

She does have a point. We did aid these Morlocks in purging their territory of the fiends. But at the end of the day it is only money."

Through the translations, Agajprak spits on the ground. "It is my home. You helped free it - this is true, but now we must pay the price and let you surface walkers despoil Rachikan with your taint. Finders of Paths and Knights of Hell. Bah."

She stands up and motions for her golem to follow.

"No - 2,500! It took me ten long years to find this crystal in the crags of..." The morlock woman stops realizing she may be weakening her bargaining position. "2,500. Final offer."

Setare shrugs.

“I’m not go.. going to steal it fr.. from you! But we might be a.. able to find one our.. ourselves!“ she says.

GM, is the DC above 30 and we could get her with aid? Or is it in vain? I that case: We might have to come back to her but I’m not going to pay now. :-) I have super low perception rolls. Can those of you with high modifiers try your luck?

Rokgurn shakes his head knowing that he is being played.

"There are clearly more of these crystals. She said so herself. Tell her that we are willing to pay her 50 gold on the spot or we are going to ask around about how to find these crystals in the spot she mentioned."

The Exchange will cover 50 gold for the bribe for my character so that would work for me.

"Good luck finding one, then! Ten Years. Ten Years!" Agajprak cackles as she climbs her golem, taking a seat on its massive shoulders, and the two slowly walk away to their home village.

---------------

Searching the caverns yourselves, it takes you two days to find one.

---------------

Returning to the lich's tomb, you can use what you have learned from the repaired books to operate the obelisks as shadowy teleportation foci for the golems to be transported to the surface.

Venture-Captain Calisro Benarry awaits you there and helps to load and transport the golems to the Grand Lodge on the Grinning Pixie. She sports a wide grin during the return trip, often descending into the cargo hold of her ship just to stare in amazement and wonder at the constructs.

------------------

With that, the fate of Rachikan is once more left to its native morlocks, who welcome the departure of the Pathfinders and Chelish explorers from the morlocks’ ruined city. Bogipfen contacts the Society one last time, sending his talisman of tongues as a gift for your troubles.

Well, we must celebrate this with drinks...I assume at least one of the sailors here has a bottle or ten of some good stuff... Rallas says with a relief apparent on his face.

Brallenera happily translates, and gives her share of the money to buy a crystal.

Aww, you did very well too, Setare, as all of you. It was great fighting with you. And a few drinks to celebrate can't harm!
