Power came back on today, after 102 hours. Give me the weekend to clean the place up and such, and I'll be all set come Monday.

Yep, we have friends who were stuck on 95 in that as well.

Are you in NOVA then? Stafford, VA here.

Reston. Yeah, Stafford got hit harder than most.

Do we have an idea of how hard it'll be to get out of the valley? An estimate on time? This mission just seems completely FUBAR'd at the moment.

You can drive out of the valley in about forty minutes.

Centreville here! And yep, I managed to get COVID to ring in 2022! Jeez... At least my symptoms were mild though. Scratchy throat, runny nose, body aches. Would have thought a relatively minor cold except I took a self test and got a positive.

Did either of those 'Hard' successes yield any further clues about Shapiro's disappearance or the like?

3 Virginians here? Did any of you used to play Living Greyhawk? Maybe we crossed paths back in the day?

I did in the very first season. After that I switched to Pathfinder.

Yeah, I played LG from 2000 all the way to the end in 2008. Did start Pathfinder in 2009.

ALWAYS wanted to play LG, but never got around to it. I had a play-by-post board I ran with several others called d20WorldofGreyhawk, where we ran our own adventures based in the Flanaess - but there was no affiliation with LG. We all just loved the World of Greyhawk. Unfortunately, that board kept changing management, had a couple of huge data crashes and generally pissed everyone off enough to leave. I migrated a couple of games to this board from that one, and they're still going strong - or as strong as possible in the pbp world where attrition eventually raises its ugly head! :)

My home group is looking at playing "A Cold Fire Within" as our next game. One of the guys has rolled up an Irish Catholic Priest. What is it about Cthulhu that has everyone move to Catholicism? Nobody ever plays a Lutheran, or a Methodist in Cthulhu?

Priest - Steadfast; Hit Points: 30/30; Dodge: 40/20/8; Listen: 50/25/10; Spot Hidden: 59/29/11; Luck: 37; Sanity: 78; Default Reaction: Dodge

For me, it's the history and wide-spread reach of the Catholic Church. There's a reason the Catholic Church is also the target of long standing conspiracy theories. It's probably the oldest continuous human organization on the planet, and one that's held enormous power over its history. Even now in a highly secular and science-based world, it holds huge influence over hundreds of millions across the globe.

The Church's history also has pretty dark periods which might play well with the flavor of Cthulhu. It also has a history of secrets, hierarchy, and traditions that are open to only a privileged few. In a game where human knowledge is pitted against madness, the Church might represent the best and most powerful keepers of human knowledge. There's also a sense that the Church might have its own warriors against the darkness.

In some ways, it might work against the sense of despair in Cthulhu. If you really want to feel insignificant against ancient evil, the power of the Catholic Church supporting you probably doesn't make sense. But what if the Church is battling the Darkness and you might get crushed between them? That could be frightening.

Honestly, it's just a storied and rich organization to use as a story hook. Even a priest like Antonio won't know the depths of layers in the Church. It can be something to fear and be a powerful ally at the same time. Very few other groups compare.

To the best of my knowledge, Methodists don't do exorcisms. I think its because the Catholics take the creepy stuff seriously. Also, the history of the Catholic Church goes back to the ancient world and that makes it seem more connected to the ancient legends.

Methodists, Lutherans, and other Protestant faiths do have Exorcism rituals, and some recorded Exorcisms.

Friends, I’ve very badly injured my hand today and can’t move it. I’ve had many stitches. I’m typing this with only one hand.

I’m going to step away from my games for several days to a week. If I am a player, please bot me. If I am the GM, I’ll see you in a few days.

Greetings all, so I'm sorry to say, it is possibly a good thing that elephant abomination is going to stomp Enoli, as I, unfortunately, have things in life that really will just interfere with my keeping up. Sorry, I wish I could continue, just not sure when I could. It's been a great game watching all of you act out this horror/mystery. I hope you all survive and save the world.

Note: The Keeper's Guide states:

KG wrote:
When an investigator successfully uses a skill in play, the player should check the box beside that skill on the investigator sheet. This gives the investigator a chance to learn from experience. No tick is earned if the roll used a bonus die.

That is a heck of an incentive to NOT try and use a bonus die, ever.

Archaeologist - Adventurer | Hit Points: 22/22; Dodge: 60/30/12; Listen: 41/20/8; Spot Hidden: 80/40/16; Luck: 17; Sanity: 79/80; Magic: 16/16; Default Reaction: Dodge

Oh wow, I didn't realize that! Yeah, that kinda stinks!! But the way I read that, if the 'original' roll is a success (or a critical success), you get to tick the box, correct? It's just that if your bonus die gives you the win, you don't get the credit.

That way, there's no incentive not to use the bonus die.

Male Human Medical Doctor - Steadfast Hit Points: 26/26; Dodge: 50/25/10; Listen: 20/10/4; Spot Hidden:58/29/11; Luck: 21; Sanity: 45; Default Reaction: Dodge

In this case, I rolled a 21 naturally, so a success. The bonus made it a critical success.

I'd be happy to split the different, a standard success giving me the checkmark, and the bonus die doubling up my damage.

Archaeologist - Adventurer | Hit Points: 22/22; Dodge: 60/30/12; Listen: 41/20/8; Spot Hidden: 80/40/16; Luck: 17; Sanity: 79/80; Magic: 16/16; Default Reaction: Dodge

Exactly! It's still a good trade off! :)

I'm recruiting for players in my game of The One Ring. Let me know if you're interested!

Does having to ask invalidate me?

Yes.

And maybe not.

I'm back from the holiday weekend!

What ruleset?

The One Ring, second edition. It's brand new. See details HERE!

Nope. I can use 1-2 more.

I’d be up for diving in. Do you know what characters you have? I’ll see about getting the rules and figuring out character creation.

Let's talk about it over there! Jump into the discussion board over there, or if you're still on the fence, message me so we don't keep this conversation here.

When the party tries as hard as it can to avoid the adventure... :-)

I know a guy who might be interested. He's in my home group, and he also plays some PF here on the boards.

Still here. This week was crazy, but now I'm taking it easy for the weekend.

The next couple weeks (after this weekend) will also very hectic for me. If you need to bot Antonio, please go ahead. He will not use any weapons against humans (except his fists), but "demons" do not get the same consideration.

I'll try to get a post in tomorrow folks; head is hurting bad right now.

Apologies for my lack of posting, I wanted to let you know I'm still around, but busy at work (tax office) with zero mental bandwith to compose a decent post. Just want to keep you all appraised and let you know I'm keeping an eye on the thread as best I can. This weekend is my birthday and I'm headed out of town for a VERY brief vacation. Maybe that'll clear my head!

Query: The Keeper's Guide on page 179 has some discussion on Sorcerer's regaining spent POW. Are there any other rules for Investigators to regain lost Stat points?

This is related to a home game my friends and I are playing.

I'm new to this too! There are rules for regaining SAN, but I don't think there are rules for regaining lost STR or DEX.
