BACKSTORY
Personal Description: Elliot is tall and rangy, standing around 6'3" or so with a slim build. As he is often either traveling the wilderness across the globe searching for ancient treasures or working on engines in his spare time (both a hobby and a way to supplement his income), he is usually quite scruffy looking - dirty with unkempt hair and beard - and not terribly concerned about his appearance. Despite this, he has an amiable personality, and can be quite engaging for short periods - at least until he gets bored with the conversation or is distracted by something of greater interest to him.

Ideology/Beliefs: As a child, Elliot dreamed of exploring the world. He loved the outdoors more than anything, and he often read stories of brave explorers finding themselves facing danger in the wilderness of central Africa or even more fantastical places. Eventually, Elliot grew up and got a degree in archaeology with a minor in history at the University of Pennsylvania, but he never much cared for school - though he excelled naturally in his studies. He did, however, develop a fascination with ancient civilizations associated with the occult, including the ancient Sumerians and Egyptians as well as the Incas and Aztecs. Elliot is relentless in his pursuit of ancient artifacts to sell to museums or private collectors and is truly more of a treasure hunter than an archaeologist - which is just the way he likes it. Of course, without a steady salary he has to rely on the income he makes from finding trinkets (as well as his job at a garage when he's not globe-hopping), which hasn't exactly made him rich. But he's convinced that a humanitarian mission in Bolivia will get him close enough to an old ruin he's read about to maybe make a promising find.

Significant People:
Marion Sorenson - Elliot's mother. An alcoholic since her husband died when Elliot was away at college, they aren't terribly close anymore, though he still visits her from time to time at her dilapidated home in rural Pennsylvania. Her health is getting very bad though, and his visits are getting ever more seldom as it hurts him to see her waste away. He also blames himself for causing his father's death, as he knows that paying for his education was likely a big reason for his family's debt.

Algernon Blackwood - A strong influence in Elliot's interest in the occult. Algernon wrote many stories of fantasy and the supernatural, and was reputed to be a member of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Elliot met Algernon when the author came to speak at the University and he was fascinated with the older Englishman's career and his outlook on life. The two established a rapport and Elliot often travels to New York to visit his friend.

Duke Stevens - Owner of Duke's Garage in downtown Philadelphia. Elliot has been working on and off for Duke since he was a teenager, and the gruff old man became a sort of father figure for the young man - especially after his true father killed himself right after the Great Crash during his last year at college. The two often go hunting during deer and duck season - a favorite pastime of the older man, and Elliot enjoys it too. Duke seems to always find work for Elliot whenever he comes back home to Philly from his ocean-hopping treks in search of riches.

Meaningful Locations:
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Elliot Sorenson was born to Marion and Richard Sorenson in a small but comfortable home on the outskirts of town in 1907 on February 23rd. After losing their home in 1929 soon after the Great Crash (and after her husband's suicide) Elliot's mother moved into her mother's home, many miles north of town in the country.

Treasured Possessions: Elliot has rebuilt his father's 1917 Buick Model D-45 at the garage, turning it into a real gem of a car. He keeps it at Duke's Garage in Philadelphia.
