So, I already did backstory and complications, and gave an example of description, but I'll type up the description anyway.

So this campaign will mostly take place in Nova City.
Nova City is situated on the Giller River, which flows strait in to the Mississippi. Although not as big as Stoneveiw, Freedom City, or New York, Nova City has it own fair share of large companies and normal crime. Super Crime on the other hand is usually few and far between, and the occasional super threat is taken care of by the cities resident heroes, Spotlight and Gadget Girl. But their has been a sudden spike in Super Crime that neither Spotlight or Gadget Girl can handle so Baghi (the teams unofficial sponsor) suggested (read as: told passive aggressively) that would be the best city to be.
(perhaps the more heroic characters were appointed as chaperones?)
Yeah, it sounds like Lightning Bug and perhaps Dr. Smash, once the latter is finished, would be good as chaperones.

I'm happy to be group Co-Dad

GM SuperTumbler |

Hello, all. I just noticed the original recruitment thread and it had me intrigued. I see that you are full, but also that you are mostly fairly new to the game and have lots of questions. I don't really have time to add a new game as a player or a GM, but I am willing to answer questions about the system if that is of interest to you. For example, I saw that someone had a question about how arrays work. And lots of questions about devices vs. equipment and the whole special arrows thing. Whippoorwill was a short lived replacement in another game that I ran, so I am familiar with them. I've run a few MnM games on these boards, running one now, and have run in person games for as long as the game has existed.
Regardless, I'll be enjoying your adventures.

Limitations:
Due to some sort of strange fluctuation of his dna-alteration, when Fabian sleeps or is knocked unconscious, he automatically reverts to his normal, human form. When awake, he almost immediately shifts back to his “Doc” form, and actually has to concentrate to remain as the smaller, Fabian.
Background and Orign:
Fabian Semsch was a cyber-aeronautics engineer working for the Factor Five corporation, a think tank group that professed a goal of pushing the boundaries of technological advancement in aeronautics beyond what was generally thought possible..and to do it generally at a handsome profit. While far from a genius in his general studies in college, Fabian proved to be a near-prodigy when it came to cyber-aeronautics and any related computer technologies. He earned his Masters degree at Perez University by the time he was 22 and was well on his way to his Doctorate degree when he was hired by Factor Five. He received the degree during his second year there.
Brazen and arrogant as only a young prodigy can be, Fabian might not have always been well liked by his fellow technicians, but he was still often consulted on different experimental technologies that the company was developing. One of these was the Regenesis Capacitor Engine, a revolutionary generator and battery that if successful, would revolutionize the way the world handled power distribution for planes, jets, and even space-bound shuttles around the world. It was this device that would change Fabian’s life forever. That, and the appearance of the small-time supervillain, Psychophant...a mutated man with chaotic powers that necessitated a need to feed in a parasitic manner on other people and creatures. Using these abilities, his threat level would ebb and flow, depending on his last feeding, as a side affect was the occasional draining of super-powers from any heroic or villainous victims.
Psychophant learned of the Regenesis engine from media stories and decided that a near-unlimited source of energy might be just the thing he needed to resolve his unique issues and to gain ridiculous levels of power. And so, during one of the test runs of the machine’s power surging protections, the villain broke into the lab and interrupted the testing. Security was called, but Psychophant overpowered them and took the device, breaking it’s protective casing and drawing on it’s energies to great effect.
Immense levels of plasmatic energy surged into the villain’s body, and he began to glow...and grow, both physically and in power levels. Psychophant began to go giddy with power and started to destroy the laboratory around him. The lab was quickly evacuated. Mostly...
Reading the instruments in the lab and knowing that the uncontrolled growth of the Regenesis capacitor’s surges, it was not only possible, but likely that the villain’s body would either go into a state of sub-nuclear meltdown and implode, or worst case scenario...explode with the power of a nuclear bomb.
In a rare moment of selflessness, Fabian charged out of his hiding spot and lept from a 2nd floor balcony onto the still growing Psychophant, climbing up to where he could reach the Capacitor and used his expertise to somehow reverse the polarity of the energy fields!
The results were instantaneous. Suddenly, the power drained from the villain rather than flowing towards him, and after a few moments of this, the Regenesis engine, which was not designed to absorb external energy...exploded. Half of the laboratory was destroyed in the blast and Psychophant was violently knocked unconscious.
When security and emergency forces arrived on the scene, they found that the young technician was miraculously alive and ...changed. Apparently Fabian had somehow absorbed a good deal of the energy and by doing so, altered his DNA in quite surprising ways. He’d grown almost a foot taller and gained a few hundred pounds of what appeared to be pure muscle. His skin had taken on a pale hue and his hair was all but gone.
Disoriented when EMTs first approached him and asked who he was, the engineer had tried to say, “Doctor Fabian Semsch.”, but what those present heard was something closer to a gravely mumbled, “Doc-tor iamm...Sma...sh..”
Personality:
While still retaining a bit of his former arrogance, recent events have given Fabian a new view on life, and he’s working hard on his social skills, tempering his sarcasm with humor, and actually trying to make friends with those around him. He actually believes himself lucky to be alive, and is doing his best to work through the emotional issues that come with spending a good deal of your time like a hulking creature that makes people stare.
When “powered up”, he will answer to either Fabian or Dr. Smash, but generally tells his friends and co-workers to call him Doc.

Feel free to give me a hand setting Doc up as an "Advanced" character...suggestions are welcome. :D

Whippoorwill |

In a rare moment of selfishness,
I think you meant the opposite. :)
Otherwise, neat origin! Feels very four-color comic book.

![]() |

better than mine :P but we all have room to grow ^-^

Whippoorwill |

Doh! LOL (Annnnd Edited)
Obviously, you're correct. And glad you like it.
It's not a detailed and cool as yours, though. :D
>blush<
Well, I've had a few years to refine her backstory. ;)

I used imgbb for the link.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

@Turlin, would you happen to have time to run some small battle, sparring session, or the like with my hero, just so I can get a feel for the system and my character's powers in general?

![]() |

we can always try sparring with each other

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

we can always try sparring with each other
That's a good idea. Maybe tomorrow? Or for a couple minutes tonight, if you're up for it.

Lightning-Bug |

I’d join in for a free for all tomorrow

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Hey Lightning-Bug, Black Fox. Whenever you guys are ready just say so.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Where are you doing this? Roll20? Discord? Here?
Probably just here.

Whippoorwill |

Okay, nice. Shall we make this practice session semi-cannon?
========================
The old powder factory was just outside of town, at the end of an old switchback road that led down to one of the streams feeding into the Giller River. It had been a villain lair at least twice, but it was currently empty.
The main floor of the factory was large and empty. The light coming in from the alternately broken or grimy windows along the ceiling is diffused and scattered, creating areas of deep shadows beneath the rusty catwalks dangling from the upper reaches of the factory.
Whippoorwill stood on one of those catwalks, looking down on the rest of the team assembled on the factory floor. Her voice echoes in the large, mostly-empty space. "This place is not much to look at, but it's an old munitions factory from WWI. It was built to last. So, it should be able to withstand a practice session without caving in on us."
After a beat, she adds, "Should being the operative word. Let's not try to prove me wrong, okay?
"A free-for-all practice is just as it sounds. Be alert, watch your back, but also pull your punches. If someone taps out, let them be. Though, if you tap out, you're out -- don't jump back in unless I give you the green light."
She leans on the railing, despite it looking like it could give way. Her wings spread out just in case it does. "This kind of practice teaches you a few things: what your teammates can do, how to get out of the way of your teammates' powers, and how to handle yourself in a chaotic fight. Don't get mad, don't take anything personal. We're all on the same side. Okay?"

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Agreed.
-------------------------------------------
Shadowmeld leans back against one of the walls, glancing around him. Eyes settling on lightning-bug, he grunts. "Try not to call any lightning down through the roof, eh? I'd prefer this place not to fall down around my head."
He proceeds to unsling his bow from across his back, fasten on his power knuckles, and Shadowport onto a nearby catwalk. "Who's ready to play with the shadows?"

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Hey, guys, can you put your Mythweavers sheets in your alias profile? Just put it in classes/levels, as I did.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

And is it day or night when we're in the factory?

Whippoorwill |

Daytime.
"The light coming in from the alternately broken or grimy windows along the ceiling is diffused and scattered, creating areas of deep shadows beneath the rusty catwalks dangling from the upper reaches of the factory."

Cool, thanks

Lightning-Bug |

”won’t be a problem.” lightning bug mutters back as he moves his hands in a circular motion and slowly the catwalks darken with angry looking clouds and it be gains to rain inside the building.

![]() |

The Black Fox sighs and slides out her swords, Wraping the blades with Cloth ":There is only so much i can Pull back when using these, and Even then, I wouldn't Expect to be satisfied with just Smacking you" she slides down off a catwalk she had been sitting and lands gracefully haven fallen nearly 20ft. the shadow tails swirl around her and she flexes a little, stretching out before they begin "if i remember we are all pretty similar in power level, but our strengths lie in different areas... this will be interesting" she chuckled

Whippoorwill |

Whippoorwill sighs as the rain starts to fall within the old structure. "My feathers will never be dry again," she mutters as she drops from the catwalk. Her wings take over; powerful, measured beats keeping her in the air as she circles overhead. She activates her night vision goggles as the clouds darken the illumination within the factory.
She stays alert, uncoiling her whip in one hand and readying a quill in the other.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Alright, initiative rollin' time. Everyone roll it up for your characters. Here's mine.
Initiative: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (16) + 21 = 37

![]() |

Fox Slides one of her swords away, Leaving a hand open as she circles to be equal distance from the others.
Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
well least I have Uncanny dodge

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Oof, yeah.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Lightning-bug?

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

What're we gonna do about our base? I doubt anyone has power points to spare.

Lightning-Bug |

sorry, initiative is just dex right?
initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Lightning-Bug |

If need be for base I could put a hold on group transport (my plane) and invest into a base for now

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

sorry, initiative is just dex right?
[dice=initiative]1d20+3
Initiative is agility.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

If need be for base I could put a hold on group transport (my plane) and invest into a base for now
We may have to do that. We've got teleporters and fliers, anyway.

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Also, put your mythweavers sheet link in your alias profile, if you please.

![]() |

Yeah, i mean, I'm not a teleporter, but i got a 30ft leap distance and a grapple hook to boot,
also my low initative was because i am usually the one who attacks during a surprise round, so I didnt invest in being able to React to sudden combat fast because she is usually the one instigating sudden combat

Yup, we all have some means of getting around. I think an HQ is more important than a jet right now.

Lightning-Bug |

Should be updated now, I look at a base as well

Sylin Blackwood-Shadowmeld |

Should be updated now, I look at a base as well
Ok, cool. Could you roll initiative with your agility modifier, please?

Turlin |

Well I see that you guys are doing great! I guess i'll just leave... :p
Joking aside, one thing I should tell you, on pbp initiative turns can really slow down game play, so how I do it is that everyone rolls initiative, adds their total, and whoever got highest (players or enemy) go first. It's not perfect, but it's better than waiting around for someone to post.
Also during fights post as soon as you can, don't wait for another player to go before you do.
I know this doesn't really pertain to your practice battle, but Its just something I thought I should mention.

![]() |

init is rolled with the Agility modifier and any bonuses you gat from advantages or powers

Whippoorwill |

Well I see that you guys are doing great! I guess i'll just leave... :p
I did say semi-cannon!
