Recruited as research assistants in anticipation of a rare celestial event, the PCs arrive on a remote island in the remnants of Azlant. While there, a column of shadow erupts from the sea and washes across the sky dimming the sun and unleashing shadowy monsters. Investigating the dangerous anomaly, the PCs discover a ruined Azlanti prison inhabited by vampires and learn that the column of shadow was only a test run for an ancient vampire planning to use Azlanti magical technology to blot out the sky, shielding the dangers of the sun so they can escape their island prison and reunite with their lover from the times before Earthfall.

It's late in the morning on the day when you first gathers in town. This occurs as the Star of Almas, one of several ships making regular trips along the Arcadian Wake, docks in Talmandor’s Bounty. You all know each other having spent several months together as you voyage to this place. Who steps onto the dock? Describe yourselves!

"Well, maybe not sick of the sun. Shift it, you lazy louts! she calls to her crewmates. "We've got lodgings to find and a contact to...well...contact!"

A blonde woman dressed in a fine black suit walks slowly off the ship, a smoldering stick of Pesh held between her fingers clad in black gloves. While she could at a glance be mistaken for an ordinary human woman, the two horns jutting out of the sides of her head, green spiked dragon turtle shell on her back and green scaled tail irritably swishing about indicates otherwise.

Taking a drag from her Pesh stick, she calls back to Hannah in a slow drawl;

"Mhm. You don't have to tell me twice, Hannah. I've been sick of this ship since day one. Enough time has been wasted idling on this ship - the Indraracha Institute aren't paying me to sit on a boat all day."

Stepping off the boat and moving up next to Hannah, she yells at the others;

"You slowpokes better hurry it up! Even I got ready faster than you all, and I have a shell on my back! I'm a busy woman with places to be and ruins to catalog!"

Turning he says, "Top of the morning Karen!"

Over the last several weeks, you have gotten to know the small creature made of vines, sticks, leaves, and, of course, blueberries, who could never be mistaken for an ordinary human at any glance. They joined up on the expedition with an interest in learning new things and exploring new places. Though they have never received any sort of formal education, they have a knack for a variety of things, including alchemy and astronomy, and so applied for a position with the research expedition. They can be seen sitting out on the deck at night until the wee hours of the morning, looking up at the stars, making notes about the patterns in the night sky.

As you approach the town, Peat stands along the ship's railing, looking to see if they can catch sight of the observatory. "It'll be great to finally meet Inizkat, won't it? I can't wait to get started on our research."

Having now arrived finally at Talmandor's Bounty, Peat now scampers along the deck using a walking stick to help with balance, and then along the gangway, and ultimately onto the dock. They look around to get a lay of the land in this new location and find any place of interest nearby ... or heading straight to the observatory, if they could see it from the boat or dock.

"I was ready to throw a water skin on you this morning when land came into sight," the bronze-faced woman says. Her unruly blond hair floats around her head, untamable by any mortal methods--at least while she was aboard ship.

Randall Varent Steps on to the deck. ” Better I take my time and make sure we leave nothing aboard the ship because if I'm going to keep you alive, I better damn well take all my Equipment.” Pulling over a sack of gear, rope hanging from his belt and bow strapped to his back making sure his twin blades are secure on his sides and looking over his Armor. “Everyone ready to go? You better not have left anything on the ship”

Beorn Ironfounderson steps off the ship clad in chain mail and looking ready for a fight.
"Let's just be careful, my god warned there would be danger in these lands!"

Gog Bloodfist, completely sea sick from the boat ride, slams onto the dock shaking the boards around him. Looking up at Beorn and the others,"I could tell just from the ride here that this land will be trouble." One thing is blatantly obvious about Gog Bloodfist, he is a simple orc barbarian with a simple plan, guard the smart people on this expedition. Having heard Randall yelling about equipment, Gog gets up, checks his gear and follows the others down the dock.

Life on the docks continues as most of the work of unloading the Star of Almas begins to die down. Dockworkers begin to scatter as the final bits of labor are handled, with some moving on to other tasks and others drifting off to chat or take a break. The hustle and bustle of the unloading soon gives way to the more stable regular work and movement, and the docks begin to feel empty compared to what it was just like not too long ago.
A woman’s yell rings out from the distance. Dockworkers stop for an instant before a smile of recognition grows on their faces and they return to their work. From the direction of Talmandor’s Bounty jogs an iruxi in a light vest, clearly worked up from the rush of her arrival. Wait! She yells as she bursts onto the dock. I’m here! I’m here! She slows down to catch her breath. You—you’re all here for the expedition, right? I— she nearly chokes as she takes in another large gasp. I’m here to fetch you. She takes another moment to regain her composure before finally straightening up and offering a large grin. How do you do? I’m Inizkar, your new employer. The grin falls off her face and is replaced with a dour look. We have lots of work to do!

Welcome to Talmandor’s Bounty, on the island of Ancorato. In a few days’ time, a stellar eclipse will occur that will be visible from the island for some time. While observing this eclipse from my observatory should be easy enough, the expedition will ensure that you all and I have the best seat in the house. The plan is to travel through the jungle toward Nal-Shakar, a larger observatory situated over a caldera near the center of the island. This observatory features much more powerful equipment since it was originally an Azlanti structure. Once there, the expedition will spend about two weeks observing the eclipse and generally working on further astronomical research.

Unfortunately, Inizkar explains, a lot of the necessary work before heading out on the expedition hasn’t been completed yet. my assistant, Havilah, didn’t complete a number of tasks before he set out on a trip. I've spent the last two days working on other matters and assumed that Havilah would handle the remaining errands, but as of this morning, there are still several tasks to be done before the expedition
can set out.

She then hands you a list of the remaining tasks and looks at you all, [/b] What questions do you have for me?[/b]

You are currently at the sailor's port , location number 5. Right now I've updated my signature to include the campaign information. If you could all add your perception to the doc id be happy. I've also included a map for you to look at as well. post away with questions for your new boss!

"Where did Havilah go? Will they be joining us at the observatory?"

They consider the surrounding area. "How long is the travel to Nal-Shakar? When are we planning to set out?"

Peat looks at the list and says to the group, "We're at the port, so might as well get the cart first. Would probably be useful in carrying the other things."

Peat shrugs at the list. "Guess we'll have to ask this Summer person about that."

Beorn Ironfounderson asks Is there anything special that happens in the area that involves the eclipse? Like certain animals becoming dangerous or odd things that we need to know about that an outsider won't know?

Gog continues to scan the dock before looking eyes with Inizkar and asks, "I understand the excitement of an eclipse and its effects might be amazing, but I must ask what we can expect in terms of encounters on this expedition? Especially considering what Beorn and Hannet have stated in terms of the path to the Nal-Shakar."

Gog pauses for a second processing the situation.

"More importantly, what can our team expect for compensation for such an expedition, considering if the dangers are worse than I expect?"

Looking at the list, Gog shakes his head in agreement with Peat and Randall on getting the cart first before heading out to get the supplies for a two week expedition.

Turning toward Peat, I’m not sure. He’s been talking about going on a trip to Zanas-Tahn, one of the islands off to the west. There are several ruins on that island and Havilah mentioned having made friends with one of the local wyrwoods, who invited him to visit and check out the ruins. It’s
all he’s been talking about for weeks. Havilah’s always been extremely eager and somewhat forgetful, so I assume he just decided to head out a few days early, forgetting that he needed to help me with all of this.

She then thinks about the journey for a second Well, assuming we get everything ready to go, we’ll be leaving in two days’ time. We’ll be off in the morning and it should take us a full day to reach Nal-Shakar. that’s when the fun
really starts!

She then turns to both the people considering the horse, Oh, I think it will help. I'd rather have the horse carry the gear than any of us! There is a path through the forest we can take. It won't be the easiest, but it won't be hard with the horse moving the gear.

When discussing danger, It shouldn't be too dangerous. there might be some things in the jungle, but there shouldn't be anything too dangerous. I'd prefer more help then less to make it even easier!

When it comes to money, I plan to pay 100 gp when the job is done. that should be more than fair.

And finally when it comes to what else to do, Oh, I don't think there is anything else to do. Let's get to my observatory, and we can decide our next steps.

And from there, she begins to lead you to her home/lab across the docks and town. Inside, you find a mess of tools, books, research papers, and half-eaten meals. An embarrassed Inizkar leads you past her work area toward a large storage room on the second floor that she’s converted into makeshift dormitories. The accommodations are serviceable enough with a trio of bunk beds, a large table, and a few chests for personal
storage. She also points you toward a smaller supply closet that serves as her pantry and welcomes them to enjoy anything they like. While her offerings are simple, there is more than enough food for the remaining days in the observatory before heading out on the expedition. she states, It isn't much, but hopefully we won't be here long! Now, what do you think and what do you want do do next?

She greets the other members of the party with varying levels of collegiality, saving her warmest smiles for Peat (who is clearly the most intelligent and potentially a candidate for an academic position in the Institute) and for Beorn (who as a cleric is definitely the one who will be keeping her alive).

When they first meet Inizkar, Karen keeps silent as the rest of the members ask their questions.
"Hmph. No questions from me - I've only been sent here to make sure things get done as per my instructions from the Institute. The sooner we get going, the better." Karen grouses as she follows along behind the party.

Karen sniffs as she enters the dorm. "I'll survive - I've lived in worse. I don't have too much to unpack - I'll lend a hand if any one of you need to get your pack off your back."

Giving a softer glance at Peat and Beorn, she extends a helping hand to any of the more encumbered or vertically challenged members, offering to help them reach some of the higher spots in the dormitory.

When asked what to do next, Karen asserts; "In my opinion, we need to make sure we are well fed and watered while in the jungle. While Peat here is lucky enough not to require any food or water, the rest of us will need sustenance to survive. We should settle that and any arrangements needed to carry as much food and water as possible, so we should first get a cart from Skorga, then crates to store food and water from Kilmar, and lastly food and water from Andristi."

horse it is! In FINE Posting tradition, if Ed misses a day, you get a hero point. Ed Missed a day and its the start of the game, so have two!

Having decided on a course of action, its off to the horse!

Inizkar explains that she made a payment to the Carrollby’s Horse Ranch,
and that you need to head over and secure their new animal. When when you arrive, Cort Carrollby, owner of the ranch, walks out to meet you. He puts his thumbs into his overalls and sheepishly explains Inizkar’s payment wasn’t enough to secure a proper horse, but I'm not about to let you leave empty handed. And with that Cort’s niece Summer trots out a young mule named Mister Oats as Cort explains Mister Oats is as capable as any workhorse!

If you like the horse, any of you can choose to have Mister Oats be their animal companion. In this case, Mister Oats uses the statistics for a horse animal companion except that he also gains a +1
circumstance bonus to Will saves against fear if that PC is within 30 feet. otherwise he's got the stats of a riding horse.

Any objections? or are we taking the horse?

Beorn looks over the mule, going around the animal multiple times, sizing up the animal before saying, b]This beast will do, it is after all the right size./b] He gestures the size of the animal to the rest of the party Back home we use mules to carry our supplies in the mountains, and they work better than horses for such tasks. We'll take Mister Oats!

This seems a bit of a princely sum for a mule, but they don't actually know the economics of this island. Maybe horses and mules are hard to come by out here. Not getting a sense they're being intentionally swindled by the farmer, they decide to leave this as something that Inizkat can negotiate down the road if needed.

Holding Mister Oats' reins, "So, on to get the cart, then? Um... c'mon Mister Oats." He tugs a bit.

Nature: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

"I said c'mon, Mister Oats!" they repeat, this time a bit more imploringly.

Mister Oats seems to take pity on the leshy and follows along.

Gog nods in agreement with taking Mister Oats, especially since Peat and
Beorn appear ready to handle the critter.

In Gog's mind, if Mister Oats is as strong as any horse, then he is worth the price of a horse. Also considering Mister Oats is not easily frightened and one could argue his smaller size ( I'm being argumentative here) might help with some locations.

When it comes to the negotiation with Cort Carrollby, Gog remains silent. When the party heads out to get the cart from Skorga, Gog is the last to follow behind. He reaches into his pocket and hands Cort Carrollby seven silver of his own money to replace the silver he gave to the group. He then quickly, but some what quietly catches up with the group. Gog might be a barbarian fixated on fortune, but his rural upbringing and own hardships in the guard allow him to know that this circumstance is not one of those times.

Off to get the cart! As you arrive to collect the cart, you find an obviously stressed harbormaster Skorga (athamaru male) directing workers. Several sealed crates, coral enclosures, and other deliveries sit underwater at the bottom of the port’s ramp while what appears to be a very small workforce continues to work, obviously stretched thin. When you finally meet with him, he’s obviously flustered and explains can you see all this crap! I haven’t had a chance to track the cart down in the port warehouse. I've been focused on keeping things moving at the port as part of my workforce has been moved over to the Sailor’s Port to help with work over there!

Unfortunately, this morning’s shipment was much larger than expected and I need my workforce back here, but I haven't had an opportunity to go over to the Sailor’s Port and ask for the workers back.

I can get the cart if you can help me out with getting the workforce back up to the necessary numbers, at least to help with this latest shipment. Go speak with Eugenie Umbrala (gruff male human stevedore 2), the harbormaster for the Sailor’s Port, to see if anything can be done. You do that, and you get your cart!

He then turns back to yelling at his underlings. Do you want to ask him anything or head to the next port?

'Incompetence. This should have been sorted out ages ago. We come all the way across the Inner Sea just to run errands?' Karen inwardly seethes but does not voice her disdain.

"That's unfortunate for us. I don’t think we've much choice but to go to the next port and...persuade Eugenie to part with some workers." Karen says to the group. "I'm reasonably sure that I could convince him."

Peat glances around. "The Sailor's Port? Then which port is this?" They look at the map. "Oh, this is the ... Water Port..." They then mumble, "Clever naming ..." Then, louder, says, "Yeah, we can go talk to Eugenie about this workforce logistics issue. But you are sure that you have a cart available for us to use, right? Has it already been paid for?"

The harbormaster turns back to you, uh ya, It's paid for FOR CAYDEN'S SAKE WATCH THAT CARGO! as he turns back to watch some helpers mess up and nearly break a bunch of boxes. Ya, you go get it sorted over there and Ill get your cart here.

And with that you are dismissed.

Off to the Sailor's port! There you see Eugenie Umbrala (human stevedore). Hes exasperated as he's hauling cargo around instead of yelling Like the previous harbormaster.

What would you like to do?

"Hello. You must be Eugenie Umbrala. I am Karen Langway. My friends heard you are suffering a labour shortage...what's your situation like?"

Karen goes over to the harbourmaster and extends a gloved hand in greeting.

Gog, while walking up the port, looks around Sailor's port for Skorga's workers. He then approaches Eugenie following in Karen's steps.

Skorga tells us he sent over his workers to help you. He informed us that he needs them back, but I take it you are in the same situation? I think a few members of our party could spare some muscle to help for a bit if needed.

Gog also reaches out his bare, rugged hand to Eugenie. Gog Bloodfist at your service.

The man grunts as he sets down the cargo. Nice to meet you. He shakes each of your hands. Everything is screwed up here. Nearly half a dozen dockworkers failed to report for work this morning, leaving things severely shorthanded for unloading the Star of Almas. Eugenie was able to cash in a favor with Skorga and ask for a few athamaru workers from the Water Port to help with this work. The plan was to have the athamarus work the entire day and sending them back to the Water Port would leave the Sailor Port in a bad position again. If you are able
to fill in for these workers or find some other workers to fill in for them, it should balance things out. Ill take the help if your offering it Gog.

you have a few choices on how to handle the matter. You could work themselves. In that case, if at least two of you dedicate yourselves to working at least 4 hours each, it should help cover enough of the work for both ports.
Alternatively, You could try to track down some more workers in Talmandor’s Bounty to help for the day. Doing so requires the PCs to ask around town to locate enough spare hands for the job. Tell me a skill and you can try to find men and women to fill in.

Karen will attempt to use Diplomacy to find more workers.

She starts hobnobbing around the harbour, approaching idle labourers and promising quick work for a desperate employer.

Gog, upon hearing of Eugenie's offer, will begin to pick up cargo to help as much as he can while the rest of the party looks for other help or helps out.

While walking away with the cargo, Gog shouts "Randall, it's time to show off that strength you kept talking about on the boat ride here!"

Randall moves alongside Gog and starts picking up cargo.”My good friend Gg, I told you that I was strong, but more than that, I was dexterous, because strength is only as useful as how you're able to employ it.”

"Well, if Gog and Randall are willing to do the work, then it might make sense for the rest of us to go on to the next thing on the list ... Probably crates makes sense next, so we have them to load into the cart when it's available?"

Not to split the party, but hopefully there won't be a fight at the carpentry store
